Top 10 Party Movies: Cue the Hangover!

$

You have to give it to the film 21 and Over. It doesn't shy away from what it's about, simply from its title. Jeff Chang is turning 21 and he's going to have the time of his life tonight, even though he has a med school interview in the morning. The film is the latest from the team that brought you The Hangover and to say it continues a tradition of "getting wasted" movies is an understatement.

Movie Fanatic went back through the archives and did our best to find the best parties in Hollywood history. Without any delay, crack one open and dive into our Top 10 Party Movies of All-Time.

10. Project X
All one needs to know about this "found footage" party movie is that you would be hard pressed to find a party in a movie with the seismic scope of Project X. The feel teased in the Project X trailer is pale to the entire experience of the movie. By the time this party is done, an entire city block will have been destroyed.

9. Bachelor Party
Wait, what's that horse doing in the hotel elevator? Now, this is a party. One of Tom Hanks' first films is one of the best party films of all-time. With his wedding merely days away, a mild-mannered school bus driver -- who is about to marry one very rich daddy's girl -- is "kidnapped" by his friends and taken to a downtown hotel for the Bachelor Party of a lifetime. Is it one of the Top 10 Tom Hanks Movies of all-time? Perhaps...

8. Sixteen Candles
Imagine being the age of Anthony Michael Hall's character in Sixteen Candles and having the night he did? That is one for the record books. The movie may have been about Molly Ringwald and her quest to find love with dreamy Jake on the day her parents forgot her sixteenth birthday, but at its heart there was the party at Jake's house! Just ask Long Duk Dong about the fest and where Grandpa's car went. "Automobile?!" Just one of many Sixteen Candles quotes for the ages.

7. Superbad
Michael Cera and Jonah Hill are on a mission and judging by these unforgettable Superbad quotes... they succeeded. Superbad also scored in introducing us to one of the more interesting party movie characters with McLovin'. His dual evening between living it up at the biggest party of the year and his experience running around with those hilarious cops (led by Seth Rogen) is what makes Mr. McLovin' legendary in our book.

6. Risky Business
Poor Joel, this writer who shares his name could commiserate with the position the teenager was in when Risky Business hit theaters. Expectations weigh on him like an anvil. Yet, he is a teenager and ready to spread his wings. And maybe that might include throwing a party that involves rescuing a bevy of prostitutes while simultaneously raising money to fix his father's car that he somehow managed to have dropped into the river. Yeah, that was a good night... and profitable too. Tom Cruise's Joel got into Harvard because of that party. For more, check out these Risky Business quotes.

5. Dazed and Confused
Party at the Moon Tower! And what a fest it was! Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused was not only an ode to the last day of school in 1976 and the big party that followed, but also assembled one of the best casts in one as well. The film introduced the world to Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, Joey Lauren Adams, Parker Posey, Cole Hauser, Milla Jovovich, Adam Goldberg and Jeremy London. Oh, and that opening scene with Aerosmith's Sweet Emotion is iconic.

4. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
You know that lost weekend in Vegas that lives in your past? Well, there is nothing that happened during your Fear and Loathing Las Vegas moment that compared to what is shown in Johnny Depp and Terry Gilliam's vision of the iconic book by Hunter S. Thompson. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas may have pushed the boundaries on multiple occasions, but that is exactly why we adore it.

Johnny Depp in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

3. Old School
"We're streaking!" Just one of the instant classic Old School quotes that have stood the test of time. Will Ferrell, Luke Wilson, Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn may have headlined the Todd Phillips (this is one of several of his films on this list!) movie, but the real highlight of this film is the raging passion for partying that this fake fraternity unleashes.

2. The Hangover
Remember the first time you saw The Hangover? Recall how it simultaneously blew you away and spawned laughs the likes of which haven't been generated at the movies in quite a while? What a fantastic idea for a comedy. Take three great friends (Ed Helms, Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis) and have them trying to piece together a night in Las Vegas that got away from them... all in an effort to find their friend who also has to be married within hours. Tick tock guys!

1. Animal House
The movie that set the standard for the cinematic soiree is Animal House. John Belushi may have become a huge star after appearing in the John Landis movie, but what truly came out of this 1970s comedy is the blueprint for all films to follow when it comes to the "college movie" and the "party movie." Yes sir, may I have another... fits our feeling every time we watch the movie, besides being one of the best Animal House quotes!

Animal House Photo

Honorable mentions: Fast Times at Ridgemont High (The movie itself is a party, there is not much partying in the movie per se), The Party, 200 Cigarettes, Weird Science, Very Bad Things, American Pie and House Party 2 (because of the Pajama Jammy Jam!).

Disney's spin-off of Cars was originally set for a straight-to-DVD release, but they have since decided to air Planes in theaters. Check out the first trailer for the upcoming computer-animated movie:

The movie follows a single-propeller crop-duster named Dusty who dreams of competing in an across-the-world air race. The only problem? He's afraid of heights. The underdog plot seems very similar to DreamWorks' Turbo.

Jon Cryer, Stacy Keach, Brad Garrett (The Incredible Burt Wonderstone), and Carlos Alazraqui lend their voices, with Klay Hall directing.

Planes will hit theaters August 9.

In an interview withTHR, Universal Pictures chairman Adam Fogelson dished a few details on the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey movie.

Fogelson says that skepticism about the studio moving quickly simply to capitalize on the book's buzz (which, let's face it, has already faded significantly), Universal has made Fifty Shades a top priority. How soon could the movie be in theaters? Fogelson says as early as Summer 2014.

Fifty Shades of Grey

The film can't be on too much of a rush, however, because there is still no director or cast attached. The most important question yet to be answered is: Who will play Christian and Anastasia?

Production is already underway for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but that doesn't mean they still can't add cast.

Stoker: Nicole Kidman Talks Being Midunderstood Mother

$

Stoker as a film is hard to put a finger on. It is gorgeous. It is powerful. But overall… it is a rare jaw-dropper where the audience never sees the curves coming. Star Nicole Kidman sat down recently to talk about her stunner and what it was that compelled her to appear in the film as the ice queen of mothers... perfectly captured in the Stoker poster.

Nicole Kidman Stoker

“I'm not sure what genre it fits in to. It's hard to define it. But I was amazed at the filmmaking. You don't see that kind of filmmaking that often. A lot of the stuff I hadn't seen because I'm not in it. So even the scene in the playground, I was just like, 'Wow,' with the way she climbed up the slide,” Kidman said.

The Oscar winner was drawn to its multifaceted feel -- shown off in this Stoker clip -- and the cerebral context that paints a picture of a family torn apart by suspicion, violence and a feel that is utterly loveless.

“It's very layered in the metaphors that he (director Chan-wook Park) uses. The hair scene, I had no idea. He's just like, 'We're just going to shoot brushing your hair.' And then I see the film and I'm like, 'Oooh, that's amazing,'" Kidman added.

As teased in the Stoker trailer, the Australian actress portrays the mother to Mia Wasikowska's India and as the film starts, they are burying the family's patriarch. Enter a suspicious uncle, played with panache by Matthew Goode. Soon after, everything gets quite placidly tense -- which is astounding to watch.

Mia Wasikowska Nicole Kidman Stoker

Kidman was clearly drawn to play in director Park’s playground. “I knew his films and I wanted to work with him. I just thought the combination of this script with his direction would be really unusual. I saw it for the first time at Sundance last week and I was like, ‘Wow,’ which is a great reaction to have -- a good wow, not a bad wow,” she said and laughed.

But we wondered if there were any language problems collaborating with someone who barely knows English and only speaks Korean. “There are times when you have to clarify words because obviously particular words mean certain things. And so a lot of times it would be me just going, ‘Is this exactly what he wants?’ Because in translation, things can get lost -- so I was just very specific with him,” Kidman said.

"But that sort of detailed filmmaking is one) really hard to do and not have it be pretentious and two) have it really tell the story which is what you're taught is that cinema is the language of images and dialogue. You really should be able to make a film with no dialogue and tell a story, and I really think director Park should do that next.”

The actress admitted that the most delicious scenes to film actually involved eating! “For me, I loved the dinner scenes. I loved the scenes around the table because there's humor in them as well," Kidman said.

Nicole Kidman Mia Wasikowska Stoker

"I actually don't think that Evie's (Kidman's character) evil. I felt like she's misunderstood. I feel like she's just starved for love and she's got a child that she doesn't connect with. Director Park, when we first met, said to me, ‘Ever since you've held this baby, this baby's never wanted to be held.' That's an amazing way to start building the relationship of a mother and child because that's horrifying as a mother if your baby doesn't want to be held by you," Kidman said.

Some may call Kidman's Stoker matriarch an ice queen, and many may even go so far as to use the word "evil." Kidman doesn't see it that way. "I think that's the thrust of her is that this child that she's had just doesn't connect with her and so she's always trying to in some way connect."

"I mean, obviously that's gotten broken down over years and years and India had a much stronger connection with her father," she added.

"So that was fascinating to me. And then also, I sort of came up with my own thing in terms of she's just starved for love and that creates a particular personality after a while -- being starved of being touched and held. She's not evil.”

The matchups are becoming more and more heated in our Tournament of Movie Fanatic Franchises Bracket! With the round 1 losers out of the picture, it's all tough choices from here on out. We've opened the polls for Back to the Future vs. Indiana Jones and Star Wars vs. Lord of the Rings, and now we move on to our third round two fight.

Today's matchup is Ghostbusters vs. Batman! Two beloved franchises. But which one should advance to the semi-finals? Vote below, then read about how each franchise got here. And remember that all 2nd round polls will remain open until the end of the round!

And theWinneris?

Round 2 of the Tournament of Movie Fanatic Franchises Bracket is in full swing! Today's matchup pits a shorter franchise against a very deep franchise. Ghostbusters is taking on Batman! Vote for which franchise you think should advance to the semi-finals! View Poll »

GhostbustersFranchise:

We adore Ghostbusters here at Movie Fanatic, but were frankly quite surprised with its 78% to 22% trouncing of Matt Damon’s Bourne series! Guess the power of the Ghostbusters is still as strong as it was when the film first debuted in 1984. That’s not a surprise given that the rumors about the film’s third chapter have made headlines for the last several years. People want more slime!

Bill Murray stepped in for John Belushi when the comic legend passed away, and even though Belushi would have been great, Murray stole the entire film. His chemistry was fantastic with fellow Ghostbusters Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. That could explain the holdup on a third in the Ghostbusters franchise. Aykroyd knows he has to have Murray to really make it work.

Check out our Ghostbusters quotes for more sci-fi hilarity from our favorite ghost-hunting geniuses.

Batman Franchise:

Batman survived round 1 with nary a scratch, beating its DC cohort Superman by a margin of 74.4% to 25.6%. That's no surprise, given the Dark Knight's staying power in the world of film. Four excellent actors have donend the bat suit since Michael Keaton and Tim Burton collaborated on the first modern Batman movie in 1989.

So what makes Batman the most successful cinematic superhero? The dark and offfbeat nature of the vigilante's world makes for a great on-screen experience. Christopher Nolan took that a step further by injecting gritty realism into the franchise and revolutionizing the way superheroes are adapted to film.

Who is the best Batman? That question may never be answered. But you can read through some Batman quotes to relive the magic.

Yesterday we showed you the first Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 poster. Now we have the first trailer, and it is teeming with food/animal hybrid puns.

The one that really got me was the leak/leek pun. I feel like that may already be the best joke in the film.

Bill Hader returns to voice Flint, an inventor who was banished from his town after his machine caused a disastrous food storm. Now, the machine has created a whole land of food/animal hybrids, and he must save the world against them.

Anna Faris (Movie 43), James Caan, Andy Samberg, Neil Patrick Harris, Benjamin Bratt, Terry Crews (Bridesmaids), Will Forte, and Kirsten Schaal also star. Cloud 2 will premiere September 27.

21 and Over: The Hangover Writers on Directorial Debut

21 and Over might feel like a certain movie, and that is a very good thing. The Hangover and the new film that lands March 1 are from the same comic minds. Scott Moore and Jon Lucas penned the Bradley Cooper star making comedy that has spawned two sequels and are making their directorial debut from their 21 and Over script.

Miles Teller Justin Chon and Skylar Astin 21 and Over

The duo sat down with Movie Fanatic for an exclusive interview to talk about the secret to their comedic success as well as how their latest film and The Hangover all share one thing in common: Stretching the boundaries of comedy. "We like to take genres that we love and bring them to comedy. Like with The Hangover, we love the Bourne movie and how Jason Bourne can’t remember his past. Well, what if Jason Bourne was a comedy? What if he had self inflected amnesia and that would be a great comedy," Lucas said.

The idea for their latest, teased in the 21 and Over trailer, recalled a J.R.R. Tolkien series. "You could do an epic quest movie, like The Lord of the Rings, but instead of getting the ring to Mordor, you’re getting this little Asian dude home. We’re always trying to find new ways to bring comedy new structures."

At the heart of their latest film is Jeff Chang (Justin Chon), a straight-A student who has the unfortunate distinction of having his twenty-first birthday fall on the evening before his big medical school interview. His two best friends, Miller (Miles Teller) and Casey (Skylar Astin) have arrived to surprise their buddy and take him out for a night of debauchery. The three aren't just archetypes. They are fully drawn characters, and therein lay the secret to Moore and Lucas' success.

"Something that attracted us is that we love to write comedies that have great characters and funny jokes, but there are different sub-genres in comedy. You have the character driven comedy, and then there’s a high concept comedy. What we have been recently gravitating to is the thought driven comedy. There’s a story carrying you through," Moore said.

Jon Lucas and Scott Moore 21 and Over

"Look, The Hangover did great and everyone on that team killed it. But, I think that mystery plot engages the audience in a way that doesn’t happen a lot in other comedies. In 21 and Over, there’s a plot at the center -- a quest to get this guy home -- and we think that is what keeps the audience on their toes. We like it when we keep the audience engaged and they’re not just laughing at the jokes, but also tracking the story."

The story finds that Jeff Chang does go out with his friends and nothing good comes of it... all to the hilarious delight of the audience.

Moore and Lucas admitted that making the jump to the directors' chair was not something they sought to achieve with their careers. "Well first we were really excited. Then we thought, 'Oh (expletive),'" Moore said and laughed.

They sought help from friends who had achieved directing success as well as sought to hire the best from cast to crew to make their vision a reality.

"We sat down with our way more experienced and talented director friends. And we just downloaded all the information we needed. We learned that directing comes down to just hiring good people, especially for people like us who have no idea what we’re doing. You don’t have to know about cameras, just hire a guy who knows about cameras," Moore said.

Miles Teller Skylar Astin and Justin Chon 21 and Over

"Even with the cast, make sure you get awesome actors who are also really funny guys who are willing to work for the team and not just for themselves. I think we got incredibly lucky. Like the scene with the bonfire and the Buffalo that runs through the crowd. Nobody got hurt. It didn’t rain or we didn’t start a larger fire… we just were fortunate."

Lucas is worried that they may have used up all their good fortune on 21 and Over. "I’m sure if we get to do another movie it will be a complete disaster because we used up all our lucky on this one,” Lucas added and laughed. "But, the key to success on this was we surrounded ourselves with experts from top to bottom. We were the idiots who had never done the job before."

"We would go to the Director of Photography or the editor and say, “we have no idea what we’re doing. Help us,” Moore interjected.

Lucas found that in Hollywood, admitting you don't know is actually respected. "People are responsive to that. People get in trouble when they act like they know what they’re talking about. If you’re honest with people, you’d be surprised how much people are willing to help you," Lucas said.

"I wish I could say this was part of our master plan. Truthfully, Scott and my career has just been fumbling forward hoping things work out. It was never our intention to direct. We wrote the script on spec and brought it to Relativity and it was their suggestion that we direct it. We looked at each other and were like, “OK.’” We’re suspicious why we got the directors job… we think it’s cause we’re really cheap [laughs]."

Spielberg's latest film Lincoln earned 10 nominations, including Best Director, and two wins at last weekend's Oscars. Spielberg's first feature film, Sugarland Express, won the award for best Screenplay at Cannes in 1974.

Calling the selection an "honor and a privilege," Spielberg stated, “My admiration for the steadfast mission of the Festival to champion the international language of movies is second to none. The most prestigious of its kind, the festival has always established the motion picture as a cross cultural and generational medium."

The Cannes Film Festival will run May 15-26.

Here's an odd piece of casting news. Yesterday we showed you the first trailer for Planes, Disney's Cars spinoff featuring, well, planes. The trailer had Jon Cryer voicing the main role of Dusty.

We had heard rumors that Cryer left the production, but since his voice was in the trailer, figured that wasn't true. Now, we have word that Dane Cook is joining the production in the role of Dusty. Perhaps they'll redo the trailer soon?

Dane Cook Photo

Cook's character is a small dust cropper who dreams of competing in a round-the-world air race. The only problem is his crippling fear of heights.

The stand-up comedian has starred in such films as Waiting, Good Luck Chuck, and Dan in Real Life.

Stacy Keach, Brad Garrett (The Incredible Burt Wonderstone), and Carlos Alazraqi also lend their voices. Planes lands (see what I did there?) August 9.

Sushi Girl: Filmmakers Talk Tarantino & Making Riveting Revenge

$

Sushi Girl screenwriters, Kern Saxton (who also directed) and Destin Pfaff, sat down with Movie Fanatic for an exclusive interview and something powerful struck us. These two have a passion for movie making that is culled from years of being, well, movie fanatics. “We’re just both blindly in love with cinema,” Pfaff said.

Mark Hamill Sushi Girl

As teased in the Sushi Girl trailer, their first feature film features a group of gangsters meeting for a dinner where things might not go so well for one attendee. Fish has just got out of jail and after years of incarceration his former heist mates throw a special meal for him. Seems they want to know for sure if he sang like a canary on the inside and ratted them out.

Making up that group is a classic movie actor bevy of talent from screen icon Mark Hamill, Terminator’s Michael Biehn, Lawnmower Man Jeff Fahey and Mr. Machete (Danny Trejo). Sushi Girl is now available on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download.

Movie Fanatic: Have to start by asking where on earth this wild idea for a movie came from?

Kern Saxton: Jack Daniels…

Destin Pfaff: What [laughs]?

Kern Saxton: I want a case of Jack Daniels sent to me, I figure if I say it enough, I’ll get one [they both laugh]. We were at a bar and we were talking about another script that we were working on that was too big for its britches. We were having trouble raising the money for it. So, Destin said, "Let’s do a one room movie." I said, "That is a terrible idea." But, we went with it and that’s where we came up with the idea to have a room full of gangsters and there’s a naked girl covered in sushi in the middle of it. I remember thinking how wonderful the idea of having such a vulnerable character was… and it mutated from there.

Movie Fanatic: How’d you two meet and what’s it like to write as a team, normally a solitary process?

Destin Pfaff: Back when I first came to LA years and years ago, Kern and I shared the same manager. The development assistant in the manager’s office was a friend of both of ours and we were at a bar -- man, lots of bars in these stories -- and I hated Kern when I met him.

Kern Saxton: Yeah, we hated each other.

Destin Pfaff: He’s so pompous and thinks he knows it all. [Laughs] Eventually we got to know each other and became best friends. We think a lot alike in a lot of areas, and we’re really different too. There’s a really good checks and balances system. Writing can be a solitary and lonely thing that if you have a partner that you feel comfortable with sharing ideas, and can call you on your (expletive) when you need it, it becomes a wonderful relationship. If I was only successful writing with Kern for the rest of my life, I’d be happy.

Kern Saxton: I like bouncing ideas off of people. I don’t like sitting in a room by myself. I don’t have all the answers. What’s great about Destin is we get together and spit ball and have a volley back and forth. We had a huge argument about Sushi Girl early on in the process about how to handle flashbacks. I think Destin didn’t want to have any flashbacks.

Destin Pfaff: You wanted to layer a bunch of them throughout the movie.

Kern Saxton: And we compromised. It was the sort of situation where we both saw each other’s side and eventually listened to reason. I always feel like when we work together we’re creating a horror movie with a broader audience than just horror. Sushi Girl is definitely not a horror movie, but it definitely has traces of horror in it that has enough to make the horror community fall in love with it. They have been the largest vocal supporter of this movie.

Movie Fanatic: What films influenced you guys in general and for Sushi Girl?

Kern Saxton: Destin has his references and I have my references. Sometimes they match up and sometimes they don’t. We both love 1970s exploitation movies and serious ones. For me, Point Blank was a big reference point for this movie.

Destin Pfaff: For me, I was raised on 1970s films as well as the 1980s movies. And the Italian American crime thrillers, zombie films… and all that were impactful for me. Kern likes to bring up Branded to Kill. These ideas that we have just become part of my life -- much like other writers, directors and producers out there. That’s where Sushi Girl came from. Oh, then there’s the elephant in the room… Reservoir Dogs. The same way Tarantino was influenced by these movies, Tarantino has also become an influence on us. This is going to go on for filmmakers for the rest of eternity.

Sushi Girl Movie Poster

Kern Saxton: Like Destin said with Tarantino, it’s important to note that filmmakers are socialized to tell stories by the movies that they consumed when they were younger. We’re part of one of the first generations to be socialized by Tarantino. He’s been a mainstay as long as I can remember. Reservoir Dogs came out when I was like ten or eleven. That’s a movie that has always been seen as done right. But I’m also influenced by others like David Fincher and Paul Thomas Anderson, but also Hitchcock and Stanley Kubrick.

Movie Fanatic: Well, you can see it in Sushi Girl.

Kern Saxton: Yes, that does come through in Sushi Girl! It’s kind of a big melting pot of all the stuff that goes in and gets processed and comes out a different way.

Movie Fanatic: How did your expectations filming a feature versus a short film differ from what you experienced?

Destin Pfaff: We had goals in mind. When we first started writing this movie, the main goal was we wanted to tell a smart story on a low budget. We wanted to do it to convince people that we could make movies and give us more money to make more movies. For us, the real action is making stuff. We’re all about telling stories. We just want to make more.

Kern Saxton: That’s the big difference between a short film and a feature. There’s a lot more that comes with it: Responsibility and expectation. But you have to also be mindful that you want to make something to sell. You’re making art, but you have to sell it to make more. For us, we grew up watching movies that we were fanatic about -- we wanted to give another one of those to the world.

Stoker Review: One Fierce Family

$

Nicole Kidman teases her searing nature in the Stoker trailer and she is just one of many reasons to race to the theater to see this intense boiler of a drama. It is gorgeous. Korean director Chan-wook Park barely speaks a word of English, yet has managed to convey his vision to not only his crew, but his actors who all rise to an uncanny level to meet Park's hallowed cinematic ground.

Stoker Star Nicole Kidman and Mia Wasikowska

Kidman is Evelyn, a matriarch to the Stoker family and as the film begins, we meet them on the darkest of days. Mia Wasikowska is her daughter India and the two of them are dressed in black. They have just lost a husband and father in a tragic accident. Matthew Goode (Watchmen) is the deceased's brother, Charles Stoker, who has arrived to console and proceeds to do anything but that over the course of the film.

Each Stoker woman is drawn to Charles for different reasons. Couple that with the fact they are both grappling with grief and handling it in the most unusual and extreme of ways. The Stoker family has wealth and privilege, but Stoker is not simply a tale of the idle rich and their dangerous passions.

Wasikowska is a force of nature. She has been that way since we first became aware of her on In Treatment. She can be both Alice in Wonderland and the darkest of conflicted characters, such as Jane Eyre. And now in Stoker... the Brit is something truly special and to watch her weave her web in her latest is the highest of brilliance.

Mia Wasikowska Nicole Kidman Matthew Goode Stoker

And Kidman has a role with Evie that is so in her wheelhouse that there is a seismic emotional response to what she does onscreen from the audience. She is fresh off her stellar 2012 turns in The Paperboy and HBO's Hemingway and Gellhorn. Her character's maternal instincts are buried beneath layers of emotional turmoil that are also astounding in how it reflects off of Wasikowska. There are acting clinics and there is what is put on by the cast of Stoker.

Then, there's Goode. Not to paraphrase his name, but he is so good. There is an irrelevant viciousness to his performance as the man who seeks to be the family's new patriarch. The way he slithers into every scene and slyly makes his mark is pitch perfect. His chemistry with Wasikowska and Kidman is unique with each, leading audiences to not quite figure out his true motives until we're deep into the story.

Stoker is an explosive mix of a group of actors who capture lightning in a bottle simultaneously. Just look at them in this Stoker poster and you can feel to your bones the tension in this familial trio.

James Bond Franchise:

Throughout the franchise, James Bond is used to decimating his enemies. So too did the film series in its first round matchup against the Blood and Ice Cream trilogy. Not satisfied with winning only round one, 007 is set for battle in round two. And with 50 years of history behind him, one can forgive the man with a license to kill for being a little confident.

The brainchild of Ian Fleming has endured an ever-changing geopolitical landscape to remain relevant… a rarity in film and pop culture in general.

With Skyfall, his most recent adventure, serving as the most profitable, it appears as if James Bond is just getting going. After 23 movies, James Bond is the model for how to do a franchise correctly on many levels.

Star Trek Franchise:

When you think of sci-fi, you think of Star Trek. And while the series is historically considered a TV property first and foremost, its rich history of films, and resurgence with the new J.J. Abrams series makes it a viable pick for best movie franchise ever.

Trek, seeded seventh, barely eked out an upset over two-seed Harry Potter in round one, winning 51% of the vote. But 51% is enough, and this is a new battle.

With a complex and highly entertaining universe that spans space and time, Trek has created a nearly-boundless amount of detail for fans to explore. It's no wonder Trek is famous for its loyal following. Check out our Star Trek quotes page for more, and get ready for Star Trek Into Darkness May 17.
