Star Trek Into Darkness Chris Pine Poster

Earlier today we received the final Star Trek Into Darkness trailer, which highlighted Benedict Cumberbatch's revenge story. That leads us to believe that the argument for his character secretly being Khan is even stronger.

Zachary Quinto, Alice Eve, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, Bruce Greenwood, and Noel Clarke also star.

J.J. Abrams directs the film, which will premiere May 17.

Last year's Pitch Perfect was a surprise success, earning $113 million worldwide on just a $17 million budget. So it should come as no surprise that the musical comedy is getting a sequel!

The Cast of Pitch Perfect

While Rebel Wilson was first noticed by American audiences in Bridesmaids, it was her role in Pitch Perfect that launched her into the limelight, ultimately leading her to host last weekend's MTV Movie Awards.

Original writer Key Canon will return to pen the sequel, though there is no word yet on whether Wilson or fellow cast members Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Skylar Astin, and Elizabeth Banks (who also produced) will return.

Pitch Perfect 2 is currently targeting a 2015 release. Read through some Pitch Perfect quotes to relive the first film.

If the promos--and the director's pedigree--are any indication, modern music plays a big role in Baz Lurhmann's adaptation of The Great Gatsby.

The new extended TV spot features a song from Fergie, Q-Tip, and GoonRock. Check it out:

Leonardo DiCaprio (Django Unchained) stars as the New York millionaire Jay Gatsby. When Nick Carraway, played by Tobey Maguire, arrives from the Midwest, he is immediately enthralled by Gatsby's lavish and mysterious life.

Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke, Adelaide Clemens, and Elizabeth Debicki also star.

The Great Gatsby will premiere May 10. Flip through our The Great Gatsby posters page for more.

Man of Steel Trailer: He'll Be a God to Them

0

The latest, and longest, trailer for Man of Steel has landed and fans should be delighted with the over three minutes of footage that director Zack Snyder has unleashed on the world. What can be said about the power of this trailer other than it begins with Russell Crowe's voice-over as Jor-El as he is essentially witnessing the destruction of his planet and has to say goodbye to his son.

Crowe continues the voice-over that truly sets the tone of the film, more so than any previous Man of Steel trailer. Then Snyder adds even more emotion by having lines said by Kevin Costner (Clark's Earth father) talking to his son about "why" he was put on this planet. It all adds up to one of the more powerful trailers we've seen for a summer movie yet this year.

Amy Adams' Lois Lane then takes over the voice-over and explains how this man has become a "ghost"... and how do you "find someone who has spent a lifetime covering his tracks?" See... more of this story is coming into view!

Oh, and lest we forget: There's also a great scene teased with Adams as she is "interviewing" Superman. Finally, fresh off the Zod Man of Steel viral video released earlier... Michael Shannon reveals his General Zod, and boom! We have drama!

It's going to be difficult, but we all have to wait until the film lands June 14.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Jamie Foxx Set Photo

We've seen the new The Amazing Spider-Man 2 suit and now it's nice to see what the hero's nemesis will look like.

Director Marc Webb is busy making his sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man and has not been shy about sharing photos from the set, like this stunt photo. What's fascinating is that although we may have seen much from the sequel's set, there is little in terms of solid information concerning the plot! Well played, Mr. Webb.

Fresh off his Generation Award at the MTV Movie Awards, Foxx is tackling his first true movie villain and further proving that there is nothing this former In Living Color star can't do!

Patton Oswalt's Star Wars Episode VII Fillibuster: Hilariously Geeky Take from Parks and Rec

We're all curious what Star Wars Episode VII will be like, but Patton Oswalt has some very interesting ideas for the new installment of the sci-fi franchise in this extended take from tomorrow's episode of Parks and Recreation.

The director apparently told Oswalt to improvise a fillibuster, and here's what he came up with:

Oswalt's Boston Marathon Facebook post went viral yesterday, and now he's making more internet news, with this clip of a long, improvised take during a scene where his character is filibuster the City Counsil.

Among his ideas for Episode VII is a "three franchise tie-in" with Marvel Universe and Wrath of the Titans.

The Parks and Recreation episode that this was filmed for will air tomorrow, April 18, as part of a double-episode evening on NBC.

Star Wars Movies to Be Released Every Summer Beginning 2015

When Disney took over Lucasfilm, we knew it would mean a bunch more Star Wars movies. What we didn't know was just how often they'd come out!

Disney announced today at CinemaCon that the Star Wars franchise would be getting a new film every Summer, beginning with Episode VII, which will be released in the Summer of 2015.

Star Wars Moving Logo

In addition to the main continuity movies, of which there are currently three planned, Disney will also be releasing Star Wars spin-off films. The first two will be a Han Solo movie and a Boba Fett movie.

There is no indication on which movies will be released when, or for how many years Disney intends to keep this schedule going. It is likely, however, that Episode VII will be followed by at least one standalone movie, before we see Episode VIII.

If you're wondering about the content of these new films, Patton Oswalt has some interesting ideas for Star Wars Episode VII.

Oblivion: Olga Kurylenko Says “Bond School” Got Her Action Savvy

0
0

Oblivion star Olga Kurylenko knows a thing or two about getting into action onscreen. The former Bond girl met Movie Fanatic to talk about her new Tom Cruise movie and how the action scenes for Oblivion were intense, but pale in comparison to her experience with Daniel Craig on Quantum of Solace.

Oblivion Olga Kurylenko Tom Cruise

“Actually, Oblivion is not the most intense physically. If you compare Julia (her character in Oblivion) to Camille in Quantum of Solace, Julia is a much more romantic figure while Camille was actually competing with Bond, tried to kill him -- tried to fight him,” Kurylenko said proudly.

“She was pretty much the equivalent of James Bond in a female character which was also very different and she didn’t have any romantic story with Bond which was different from Bond girls but also very different from Julia.”

As seen in the Oblivion trailer, Kurylenko’s Julia literally falls from space and into Cruise’s character Jack’s life. The mystery surrounding her appearance on a desolated Earth cues the suspense for director Joseph Kosinski. The world was attacked and although humans won the war, the planet was left in such a post-nuclear bomb state that all humans must live above the planet. Jack is on Earth making sure the resources of the planet continue to fuel life high above.

Even if fighting James Bond was a bit more intense, don't get Kurylenko wrong, the action in Oblivion was still intense. "For me physically, the most intense character and the most I’ve ever been involved in action is Bond but this is probably the second," she said.

"I don’t manipulate the action. I’m sitting either next to Tom or behind Tom. I was behind him on the motorcycle or next to him on the bubbleship!  At one point I do pick up a machine gun and shoot and the Bond experience served me there because I did come prepared. They asked me how I knew how to do it and I said, 'I went to the Bond school!'"

Oblivion and Quantum of Solace don't just share a penchant for action, but feature two of the biggest movie stars in the world... Cruise and Daniel Craig, respectively. "A couple of things they have in common is that they’re both action heroes. They are involved a lot in action films and they both do their stunts by themselves. They train a lot and physically work a lot. Both are very hard-working," Kurylenko said.

"Tom is fascinating. I don’t know what that man doesn’t know how to do. He flies a plane, a helicopter, everything. It’s very inspiring to work with people like that but don’t try to outshine them in the action scenes. It’s incredible. I think there was a stunt guy trying to compete in running with Tom Cruise and Tom was running faster than him! Stunt guys are tough; the toughest, strongest and fastest and Tom is still stronger and faster. He’s one of a kind. I’d never seen that before."

Oblivion Olga Kurylenko

Kurylenko also reported that not only is Cruise a top-notch movie action hero on many levels, but a generous scene partner as an actor. "It was an unexpected thing to see how much he gives. He’s a big star and wonderful actor. We know that but only his partners -- other actors -- know how much he gives," she added. "I’ve never seen him sit in his trailer. He’d always be there, even if the camera was on me and he was far away from my eye-line, he would prefer to be there."

We wondered about the soon-to-be iconic bubbleship in the film. With the cockpit that Kurylenko and Cruise sat at able to turn in a 360-degree manner, did she ever get a little sick? "I threw up in the beginning of the film when I came out of the (sleep) pod, so that was done," she said and laughed.

"But, no, I don’t get sick from motion. I can be on a boat and everything but I don’t like it psychologically being thrown around. I don’t enjoy roller coasters and that was like being in a washing machine and a roller coaster at the same time because it was spinning the whole time. When I have a choice, I don’t like going into washing machines!"

The Croods Sequel: Greenlit!

In its entire history, Dreamworks Animation has produced 26 films, and has only lost money on one of them: The Road to El Dorado.

With such a sure-fire track record, it's no wonder how gung-ho the studio is to make sequels to their hits. With the success of The Croods in its first few weeks in theaters, Dreamworks has announced that it will be moving forward with The Croods 2.

The Croods Family

The film star Emma Stone (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Nicholas Cage, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke (Kick-Ass 2), and Cloris Leachman. It follows a family of cavemen who are forced to leave their cave and explore the world after an earthquake.

Kirk De Micco and Chris Sanders who co-wrote and co-directed The Croods, will return. Dreamworks is currently in negotiations to bring back the voice cast.

The first trailer for R.I.P.D. is here!

Kristin Scott Thomas stars as Jenna, Julian's Mother. Vithaya Pansringarm, Tom Burke, and Gordon Browne also star.

Summer Movie Preview: May Brings Blockbusters Iron Man 3 & Star Trek Into Darkness

0
0

May movies kick off the 2013 summer movie season with a huge shot in the arm. From Iron Man 3 and The Great Gatsby to Star Trek: Into Darkness and Fast and Furious 6... it's a blockbuster month for the blockbuster movie season. Judging by what we have hitting screens this first of the summer months, look for Hollywood to have a record-breaking year.

Movie Fanatic gives you a sneak peek of the May movies -- when they're coming out, what they're about, and it's all in an effort to get you excited for what is shaping up to be one of the biggest months in movie history.

May 3
Iron Man 3: It's hard to believe it's been an entire year since The Avengers tackled the first weekend in May and went on to become the biggest blockbuster of 2012. Now Iron Man 3 takes that spot and although it probably won't hit Joss Whedon numbers, the third chapter in the Iron Man series promises to be leagues more compelling than the second film... proof of that arrived immediately with the first Iron Man 3 trailer

Iron Man 3 Artwork

This time out, Robert Downey Jr.'s alter ego is battling his longtime Marvel-spawned nemesis, the Mandarin. Although the Hulk was the scene stealer of The Avengers, it was Downey's Tony Stark and his ironized self that got all the laughs and much of the oohs and aahs.

The Iceman: Michael Shannon may be playing General Zod in Man of Steel later this summer, but he's got a whole other universe of pain he extols in The Iceman trailer. The true story finds Shannon as a for-hire assassin for the mob in New Jersey in the 1970s with Ray Liotta running the Mafioso show. Winona Ryder stars as Shannon's long-suffering wife, and Chris Evans (speaking of The Avengers) is a colleague/rival of Shannon's.

May 10
The Great Gatsby: Leonardo DiCaprio stars as the title character in one of Movie Fanatic's favorite books of all-time. The F. Scott Fitzgerald page-to-screen effort gets what appears to be its rightful due in the hands of movie magician Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge). The man ignores time period when it comes to his score, but the costumes, production design and feel of 1920's debaucherous America is uncanny.

Tyler Perry Presents Peeples: Craig Robinson continues to blow up, just in time for his show The Office to head off into TV retirement. His talent is all over the This Is the End trailer and it's awesome to see him get a shot at playing a leading man in the latest film from Tyler Perry's production company. His co-star is equally as exciting... Kerry Washington (currently rocking in Scandal!). The family comedic drama that follows the often hilarious moments that ensue when bringing home a potential "the one" has serious promise.

Star Trek Into Darkness Zachary Quinto Zoe Saldana

May 17
Star Trek Into Darkness: J.J. Abrams. Star Trek sequel. Benedict Cumberbatch as a Khan-like revenge-driven villain. Chris Pine's Kirk leading the crew. What is not to like? Frankly, put this on the everyone-must-see-this-movie list for the entire year!

May 24
Fast and Furious 6: Even moviegoers that weren't fans of The Fast and Furious franchise were drawn to Fast Five. And now, given the plot of the latest... we are expecting even more from the series. Dwayne Johnson made quite a splash in Fast Five, thus earning his name of "franchise viagra," as a federal officer chasing our favorite drivers all the way to Rio. This time out, he needs their help and after giving them all complete pardons... Johnson, Paul Walker and Vin Diesel all join forces in what promises to be another Furious and explosive film.

The Hangover Part III: The Wolfpack have had quite the series of adventures and with the third film in The Hangover movie series, creator Todd Phillips promises it's the final chapter. Ed Helms, Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis, as shown in The Hangover Part III trailer, are sucked into John Goodman's gangster's search for Mr. Chow (Ken Jeong). The journey will take them from LA to Tijuana and then back to where it all began... Las Vegas.

Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms The Hangover Part III

Epic: The world of the forest possesses tiny secrets and that is the crux of the plot of the animated film from the makers of Ice Age and Rio. Check out the Epic trailer and try to admit this is not a world that is seriously compelling.

Ed Helms is a scientist who has a strained relationship with his daughter (Amanda Seyfried). When she comes to visit to try to patch things up, he is in the middle of a discovery that he promises will change the world. He believes that there is a race of tiny beings that protect the forest and an army of equally small evil-doers who seek to destroy it. The effort becomes personal when his daughter is shrunk down to the size of the forest protectors and she joins the fight to save their world.

May 31
The Purge: Imagine a world where there is virtually no crime. Sounds good, no? But... at what cost? In The Purge, that small crime rate is due to the national night of mayhem known as the Purge where there are no laws. There are no police, fire or any emergency services. It's an evening of utter madness that apparently keeps the country sane the other 364 days of the year.

Ethan Hawke stars as a family man who thinks he and his kin will be fine locked inside their palatial home. As shown in The Purge trailer, a stranger approaches the house in need of help... and all hell breaks loose.

Morgan Freeman Now You See Me Still

Now You See Me: The FBI tracks a group of illusionists who use their magical skills to pull off bank heists. See, it's all part of the show! The magicians rob the banks during their shows and subsequently give the dough to the audience! Sounds like a fascinating idea from director Louis Leterrier. The film features an all-star cast including Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco and the legendary Michael Caine. Check out the Now You See Me trailer for more!

The Lone Ranger International Trailer: Justice is What I Seek

0
0

There's a new international trailer for The Lone Ranger. Watch it below:

The adaptation of the popular radio and TV show tells the story of a Native American named Tonto, who comes across a Texas Ranger named John Reid, left for dead in the desert. Believing the encounter was divinely inspired, Tonto helps transform Reid into a fighter for vigilante justice.

Armie Hammer stars as Reid, with Johnny Depp as Tonto. Ruth Wilson, William Fichtner, Tom Wilkinson, Helena Bonham Carter (Les Miserables), Barry Pepper, Mason Cook, and James Badge Dale (Iron Man 3) also star.

Gore Verbinski directs the film, which hits theaters July 3. Check out some Lone Ranger posters for more.
