Grown Ups 2 International Trailer: Will They Grow Up?

$

0

If there was one thing that we learned from the experience that was Grown Ups, is that these guys -- led by Adam Sandler -- have not really grown up too much. As the international trailer premieres for Grown Ups 2, we can bet they haven't matured any more than before.

Sandler has brought the gang back together, including Kevin James, Chris Rock, Salma Hayek, Maya Rudolph and even added some new blood. Yes, that Twilight Saga hunk Taylor Lautner is in the mix!

The first Grown Ups 2 trailer premiered a few weeks back and teased the story. Sandler has come back to his home town to live permanently. Guess it has something to do with wanting to raise his kids out of the madness that is Los Angeles. Soon after arriving, he gets into the mix with his old buddies and you bet the hilarity ensues.

The comic superstar at the heart of the film is not one to rush into sequels. So, there must have been something about the first Grown Ups that made Sandler want to make a sequel. Perhaps it was just an excuse to get his comic cronies back together for a summer of fun. Either way, audiences will surely flock!

We’re The Millers Trailer: Jennifer Aniston & Jason Sudeikis Go to Pot

We’re the Millers is a late summer comedy featuring an all-star comedic cast headlined by Jennifer Aniston, Ed Helms and Jason Sudeikis. The film lands August 9 and audiences can expect the funny from a man about to experience his third go around with The Hangover movies (Helms), and a re-teaming of two of the hilarious performers from the film Horrible Bosses -- Aniston and Sudeikis.

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for We’re The Millers and it features Sudeikis as a low level pot dealer in trouble with his source (Helms) and Aniston as a stripper (perhaps with a heart of gold?) who teams up with Sudeikis to pose as a family on an RV vacation to help Sudeikis make a wrong right with Helms. See, they are to drive that RV over the Mexican border with a “little” amount of pot that turns out to be a whole lot more.

Emma Roberts and Will Poulter also star as their fake daughter and son, respectively. Oh, and lest we forget... one of our favorite comic actors is also featured... Parks and Recreation star Nick Offerman.

Henry Cavill Wants Superman and Batman in Same Movie

As the latest Man of Steel trailer has us all sorts of buzzing about Henry Cavill picking up the cape from Brandon Routh and Christopher Reeve, the actor is causing quite a buzz with comments he has made. Fans of the DC universe are panting at the prospect of Superman and Batman finally being in the same movie together.

Superman and Batman

As fans of superheroes know, a Justice League movie has had a little bit of trouble getting off the ground. The studio behind the DC world, Warner Bros., has said that after ordering and then ditching a Justice League script, whether Justice League happens depends on the box office performance of Man of Steel.

If it’s up to the star of that film, a Batman and Superman movie should happen sooner than later.

“I think it would be really interesting with the age-old Batman/Superman conflict, because they are two different sides of the same coin and their methods are entirely different,” Cavill said to SFX.

“I think it would actually make for an interesting story as to why, first of all, they were going head to head and how. I think that would make a great story.”

Cue the drooling!

The Hangover Part III Review: More Hijinx Than Hilarity

$

After The Hangover Part II banked almost $600 million globally, it became clear that the film would earn a third and final chapter. Creator/director Todd Phillips told anyone who would listen the last film in the trilogy would feel drastically different. The Hangover Part III has landed and it is in fact quite different and Movie Fanatic has to salute him for the effort, but is that enough?

The Hangover Part III Wolfpack Pic

It’s established immediately that months have passed since the gang’s zany adventures in Bangkok and Zach Galifianakis’ Alan has stopped taken his meds and has gone a little off the rails. As shown in The Hangover Part III trailer, he has bought a giraffe and caused a serious traffic snarl in L.A. because of it. After the incident, Alan’s family has had enough.

They get his brother-in-law Doug (Justin Bartha) to convene his friends (Ed Helms’ Stu and Bradley Cooper’s Phil) for an intervention to take him to a “rehab” facility. Once he agrees, they hit the road as a Wolfpack to take Alan to get help.

Only, John Goodman’s gangster Marshall has other ideas. After causing their car to crash, he takes Doug hostage and demands the remaining three “wolves” find Mr. Chow and bring him to Marshall or their friend will die.

Immediately, The Hangover Part III has simultaneously established itself as still one of the highly successful franchise's films, yet it is clearly in a different vein than its predecessors. This is more a crime comedy, action adventure than a figure out what happened the night before Hangover movie.

Fans of the series will likely be slightly disappointed in the latest installment. The trademark Hangover humor is still there, but by going in this different direction, the film suffers slightly. And by this point, all the actors and filmmakers know these characters and their world so well, that the film feels as if it is on autopilot when it should be driving as fast as those cars seen from the Fast and Furious 6 trailer, also arriving this weekend.

The gang adds another locale to their misfit adventures, Tijuana, where they first find Chow. But, that visit is short-lived. The centerpiece here is The Wolfpack’s return to Las Vegas. They are on a mission to get Chow and, in turn, get Doug. At this point, the film treads over familiar territory, minus the charming and banging headache of a Hangover.

Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms The Hangover Part III

Why audiences will enjoy The Hangover Part III is simple: The chemistry between the three leads. There is something about Cooper, Helms and Galifianakis that still utterly charms us. Although their adventure this time out seems a bit of a stretch, witnessing the “three best friends” -- as Alan calls them -- getting together one more time is still an honest treat.

Also, the new additions to the series are both solid. Melissa McCarthy plays a whacked-out love interest for Alan (brilliant casting) and Goodman’s gangster is fierce, but also knows when to play it for funny.

By the end of the film, our The Hangover Part III review has to state that it may be time to put a cork in this franchise. Filmmakers have promised that “this is the end.” But, given the scene that appears midway through the credits… we’re not so sure.

World War Z Poster: Brad Pitt Stands Tall Against Zombie Invasion

In honor of last night’s fans’ screening of World War Z in New Jersey, hosted by star Brad Pitt, Paramount has released a new poster for the film featuring the superstar front and center.

The one-sheet finds Pitt’s Gerry Lane from high above, overlooking the mayhem below caused by the zombie apocalypse. Although it is slightly different than this World War Z poster, some might argue it kind of looks frankly… the same.

Brad Pitt World War Z Poster

World War Z lands in theaters June 21 and is based on the blockbuster bestseller by Max Brooks and finds Pitt’s Lane crossing the globe as a U.N. worker trying to figure out how the zombie infestation started, so that it can be stoped.

Rush Trailer: Risk of Death Turns People On

The second trailer for Ron Howard's Rush has raced online and it certainly has our pulses raising even higher than the first Rush trailer did. Chris Hemsworth stars as real life racer James Hunt, the uber charismatic 1970's Grand Prix driver who was driven to international success, largely due to his legendary rivalry with Austrian driver Niki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl).

Where Hunt was flashy and fast, Lauda was disciplined and driven. The two racers' clash put the sport on the map and stole the thunder emitted by America's NASCAR.

Oscar winner Howard directs from a script by Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon and The Queen). When an Oscar winner is directing from a script by an Oscar nominee with a pedigree like Morgan has, this story has to be given some serious credence. And with Hemsworth's stock rising after star-making turns in Thor and The Avengers, Rush could be the fall's first hit when it arrives September 20.

X-Men Days of Future Past: Quicksilver Joins the Cast

We recently reported that The Avengers 2 will feature Quicksilver and his comic sister Scarlet Witch. Meanwhile something has been brewing in the X-Men universe where the siblings are known to occasionally appear. Director Bryan Singer yet again took to Twitter to make an announcement about his currently filming X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Evan Peters American Horror Story

Today’s news? None other than Evan Peters (American Horror Story) has been cast as Quicksilver and will be appearing in his film. Recently Singer posted a pick of Jennifer Lawrence in full makeup, and we can’t decide which tweet is more explosive.

What does this mean for The Avengers world?

Since rights are a thorny issue when it comes to superheroes, it appears as if there is some détente in that world. Fox owns the rights to the X-Men and since, technically, Quicksilver is a mutant -- that fits firmly in that world. But, then will Quicksilver be able to join the fabled team that is The Avengers? They are owned by Marvel Studios and thus, Disney.

Yes, because the mythology of that world firmly places Quicksilver in it as well.

Maybe, just maybe this could be a thawing as similar as when President Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev first met each other to thaw the Cold War in Iceland. Then, truly, the X-Men could make full appearances in the world of The Avengers.

That is, if Joss Whedon even wants them to.

The boys are back… in time! Billy Crystal’s Mike and John Goodman’s Sully have returned, as caught so effectively in this Monsters University poster featuring a class photo. Pixar has brought the beloved characters back to theaters in the form of a prequel to show fans how the Monsters Inc. buddies first met and became the titans of scaring they would grow into.

Pixar and Disney have released the film’s first clip and it takes us just about to the beginning. The first time Mike and Sully share a room… we meet them on their first morning!

The moment we first saw the Monsters University trailer, Movie Fanatic was sold. We’ve seen the movie, but cannot say a word about it until our review is allowed to go live on the film’s release day, June 21. And don’t miss our exclusive interviews with the cast all that week.

Epic Review: Fight for the Forest

$
0
0

Epic arrives with the most ambitious of names for a film. That moniker is usually reserved for wide-spanning motion pictures whose scope is as large as its ambition -- think Lawrence of Arabia. In fact, as shown in the Epic trailer, the film is about a world that is quite small… almost impossible to see with the naked eye.

Epic Amanda Seyfried Josh Hutcherson

The story follows a seemingly out of his mind scientist living deep in the forest who is convinced that there is an epic battle (there it is!) between the forces who seek to feed the wooded area’s passion for growth and those who seek to see it riddled with decay.

Amanda Seyfried voices M.K., a young woman who has been estranged from her scientist father since her mother took her and left the man more interested in studying the tiniest of life than focusing on his own. Jason Sudeikis (recently seen in the We’re the Millers trailer) is welcoming his daughter back home, but if he is excited… he has a funny way of showing it. Mere moments after she arrives, alarms go off from his cameras embedded deep in the forest.

This could be the proof he’s waiting for… so he takes off, leaving M.K. along with the family’s overly excitable Pug.

As the audience sees, Sudeikis is spot on. There is a war going on between the life of the forest, led by Queen Tara (Beyonce) and enforced by her military leader childhood friend Ronin (Colin Farrell). The forces of decay (led by the always awesome in his evil-ness Christoph Waltz) have an army and their specific mission on this day is to interrupt the selection of an heir to Queen Tara among the flower buds.

See, every 100 years or so, the royal in charge of the forest must pass on her or his legacy. It’s a huge deal, with a massive parade and all of the forest’s plant life gathered for the society-saving event. Waltz’s Mandrake plans an ambush to kill the Queen and stop the passing of royalty that ensures the forest’s survival and will usher in an era of decay and destruction from which the forest will not survive.

Meanwhile, there’s a subplot involving a character that carries himself like Han Solo. Nod (Josh Hutcherson) is clearly a talented warrior and Ronin has all but given up on the renegade with great talent and little interest in serving the greater good. But, when (we’ll spare you the details) M.K. is shrunk to their size… his heart goes pitter patter and he suddenly finds the inner power to defend the world he resides in that is under attack.

Epic Jason Sudeikis Amanda Seyfried

The vocal talent is strong in Epic, especially Aziz Ansari and Bridesmaids scene stealer Chris O’Dowd as a slug and snail, respectively. They are the comic relief, but also hold the key to ensuring their civilization’s survival.

Epic is obviously a kids’ movie. Children will adore it and parents will relish in the lessons it emits. It will spawn many a conversation between parent and child about the circle of life, nature and its important place in our world, as well as the importance of family. Yet, our Epic review finds that adults may find the journey a little tedious. But, Epic is not for them. It is squarely for children and the inner child in all of us.

Given that Epic is from the makers of an animated franchise, Ice Age, we wonder if this is just the beginning of the epic journey of the forest and those who seek to defend it.

The World's End Trailer: Welcome Home Boys!

Earlier this month, Simon Pegg and his writing partner and director Edgar Wright released a series of The World's End posters, and now we finally have a full trailer!

Pegg stars with his frequent collaborator Nick Frost, who we first met stateside in Shaun of the Dead, as two longtime friends in The World's End who find themselves returning home to their boyhood haunt all in a titanic effort to... finish a pub crawl! Guess what the final drinking establishment is called? You guessed it... The World's End!

The only problem is the fair town of their youth has been taken over by robots and even if it means the end of everything they know, they will get to that final pub if it kills them... which it just might.

The film is part of the Blood and Ice Cream trilogy and from the looks of it... it may be the best of the bunch. Look for the flick that also stars The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey star Martin Freeman, and Rosamund Pike in theaters August 23.

Divergent Faction Symbols Show Societal Divide

In the world of the young adult novel Divergent, set to come to the big screen not soon enough for fans, the city of Chicago is split into five factions. Each firmly place how the people who live there conduct their days. Courtesy of the Divergent Instagram account, Movie Fanatic has the five “official” symbols of each faction.

We’ve already seen a first Divergent still, and this latest set of images released is surely set to feed the fire of the passionate fan base the young adult novel has all over the world. Each faction’s poster sums up their purpose with a phrase above the symbol that we honestly think is outstandingly impeccable.

The first one we present is the Dauntless faction symbol, with its flame circle.

Divergent Dauntless Symbol

Second up is Candor, an area of Chicago inhabited by people who are most known for their directness… thus their name.

Divergent Candor Symbol

Our third symbol of the Divergent world is Erudite, a people united by the passion for intelligence and reason.

Divergent Erudite Symbol

Next on the list is Abnegation, a group who is obsessed by their lack of obsession with themselves. There are as selfless as people come. Clearly from the Shailene Woodley Divergent photo we just ran, her character firmly sits in this group.

Divergent Abnegation Symbol

Lastly, we present the symbol for Amity. They are, like their moniker suggests, known for their kindness.

Fans must be losing it with anticipation as they have to wait until March 21, 2014 to check out Divergent when it premieres in theaters.

Before Midnight Review: Saving the Best for Last

Before Midnight continues the romantic linguistic adventures started in 1995 with Before Sunrise. Audiences fell in love with Ethan Hawke’s Jesse and Julie Delpy’s Celine as they met on an European train. Few movies spouted dialogue as intricate, fast paced and deeply meaningful as that film. But, who knew that it would serve as the first in what is now a romantic trilogy?

Julie Delpy Ethan Hawke Before Midnight

Before Sunset landed in 2004 and now a full 19 years later after the series started, we have the latest chapter in the Celine and Jesse love affair.

As shown in the Before Midnight trailer, the couple has been together for years now and have two young daughters. They are spending the summer in Greece and as the film commences, Jesse is saying goodbye to his son from a previous marriage at the airport. It’s a touching scene, and painfully accurate for those who know the pain of living apart from one’s kin.

After the graceful, albeit awkward goodbyes, Jesse hops in the car with Celine and their kids and they hit the road. The film starts with a dialogue-only 20 minute scene of the pair riding through the Greek countryside on the way to the villa where they are staying. Immediately it is clear why audiences have flocked to this series. Delpy and Hawke are pure magic together and their sparks fly, even when talking about the mundane while driving down a road.

But, that’s just it. Their conversation is rarely of the ordinary, in fact, it is 100-percent extraordinary. And by this point, the two actors fit these roles like a glove. We met the pair for an exclusive video interview (coming soon!) and it’s hard to see where art ends and life begins with these two. Who else could an audience spend 20 minutes in a car with and have each moment surpass the previous in terms of it being so compelling?

We learn that Jesse is a highly successful author whose three books have enthralled the world in a “is it based on his real life love affair?” storyline. He and his family are staying at a legendary author’s estate for six weeks after Jesse earned a sabbatical-type prize to enhance his professional endeavors.

Before Midnight Ethan Hawke Julie Delpy

Movie Fanatic does not want to divulge any more of the plot. It’s not necessarily a spoiler would ruin it type of movie. It’s just we feel that the story requires a less you know about it the better mentality. And Before Midnight is such a joy, we do not want to color your experience in any way other than to extol the virtues of this great film. It has immediately shot to our list of top films of 2013.

Delpy, Hawke and the director of all three of the films, Richard Linklater, holed up in a hotel for six weeks and penned the script. The trio at the heart of the “Before” trilogy has always had an uncanny knack for creating conversation-driven drama that pops with a fierce intensity. And with Before Midnight, they may have even topped themselves.

They explore the realities of not only the complexities of a long-term relationship and the challenges that confront couples, but also the obstacle course that is life itself. In short, our Before Midnight review found the film as gloriously beautiful as the Greek sea found behind the couple on the Before Midngiht poster with our leads’ riveting and wickedly intelligent conversation providing all the soundtrack we need.

Carrie Motion Poster: Creepy Carrie Indeed

If the first Carrie trailer gave you the spooks, then the latest to come from Screen Gems should only increase the fear factor. The studio has released a Carrie motion poster that manages to break down the film into various quadrants, all within the head of one bloody star, Chloe Grace Moretz.

The film is a remake of the classic horror flick starring a young Sissy Spacek, based on the wildly popular book from Stephen King. The new incarnation of the horror story stars Julianne Moore as Carrie's mother... a character who is less than savory to say the least.

Carrie arrives just in time for Halloween with a release date of October 18.

Weekend Movie Preview: May 24, 2013

The Memorial Day weekend is upon us (seriously, the time flies!) and it is the official start of summer in many circles. The weekend movie preview is chock full of fantastic film ideas to beat the summer heat. The Hangover Part III closes out the series while Fast and Furious 6 increases the speed of the franchise. Something arrives for the kids in the form of the animated Epic and in limited release (before going wide June 14)... Before Midnight romances.

Fast and Furious 6: We're off to the races again and this time out, the series may have its best film. As we state in our Fast and Furious 6 review, the movie combines all the elements of the previous five films and puts it all out there while simultaneously amping up the action (if that's even possible!). Dwayne Johnson returns as Federal Agent Hobbs and in the sixth installment of the racing series, he needs the help of the crew led by Dom (Vin Diesel). With the promise of a full pardon, the gang jumps at the opportunity and we are off and running.

The Hangover Part III: The third film in The Hangover franchise proves that three times is not always a charm. Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper and Justin Bartha return to Las Vegas -- where it all began -- to close out the series. John Goodman joins the series as a gangster hell bent on getting Mr. Chow (Ken Jeong) to pay for how he ripped him off. The only thing is... he needs The Wolfpack to get Chow. As we report in our The Hangover Part III review, this is more of an action and a crime caper movie than comedy.

Epic: The sole movie out there for kids this weekend arrives in the form of 20th Century Fox's Epic. The film is from the creators of Ice Age and it could not be more different in feel and in story. The focus is still around Earthy issues, but this movie follows the battle for the heart of the forest. The vocal cast is astounding including Colin Farrell, Jason Sudeikis, Aziz Ansari and Amanda Seyfried. Our Epic review finds the film perfect for kids, but adults may find it a bit tired.

Before Midnight: Director Richard Linklater and stars Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy co-wrote the screenplay to this third in the "Before" series and they saved the best for last, as we reported in our Before Midnight review. The duo who fell in love on that Paris train is older and more mature, but still full of conversational vive. The flick only opens in a few markets before opening large on June 14.

From the talents that brought you the Madagascar movies and Kung Fu Panda comes an animated adventure that might be a bit smaller in scale in terms of its subjects’ size, but as huge in heart. Turbo is the story of a garden snail with dreams of racing glory. Movie Fanatic has already seen part of this 3D animated flick that hits theaters July 17 at a DreamWorks Animation presentation and was blown away at the footage.

As Fast and Furious 6 hits theaters this weekend and specifically in honor of the annual American institution that is the Indy 500, DreamWorks has released a Turbo featurette that takes viewers behind the scenes of the tale of the snail that wouldn’t take no for an answer when it came to pursuing his dreams.

The all-star voice cast includes Ryan Reynolds as the title character, Samuel Jackson, Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena, Michelle Rodriguez and Ken Jeong.

The Internship Exclusive: Dylan O’Brien Would Intern at Big 5!

The Internship star Dylan O’Brien welcomed the chance to star opposite A-listers Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson in their first film since Wedding Crashers. O’Brien, who is currently cutting his teeth on MTV’s smash Teen Wolf, reported that he was excited to be a part of a Vaughn and Wilson fun ride that will surprise people.

“You bring Owen and Vince together and you could just get carried away with the humor," O'Brien said from the Baton Rouge set of his hit show.

"That’s what Shawn Levy did so well. He’s definitely had it in his mind to make this a family movie -- while still keeping that Owen and Vince comedy factor."

When asked where he would intern if all this Hollywood success went away, O’Brien searched his thoughts and answered with his heart. After all, they say follow what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life… kind of like the moral of the entire film The Internship.

“I’d go to Big 5 Sporting Goods. When I was a kid that was literally my favorite place in the world,” O’Brien said. “One year for Christmas I asked everybody for a gift certificate for Big 5. I know I could get a job there. I get excited about sports.”

We're The Millers Red Band Trailer: Jennifer Aniston as a Stripper?

$

Fresh off the release of the green band We're the Millers trailer, Warner Bros. has released the red band teaser that shows more footage and more of its stars.

Jennifer Aniston stars as a stripper who finds her life, to quote the theme song from her classic TV show, "stuck in second gear." When she's approached by her neighbor, played by Jason Sudeikis, with an opportunity to make some real money, she doesn't hesitate. Except... it may be more of a challenge than she ever envisioned. Stripping may be easy compared to pretending to be a happily married mother of two.

Sudeikis is a low level pot dealer who gets into trouble with his source (Ed Helms) and is forced to go to Mexico and bring back a "smidge" of pot. He hatches a plan to pose as a family with a misfit boy, streetwise girl (Emma Roberts) and Aniston and drive back with an RV full of pot that should throw off border agents who would never search a family on vacation. Sounds simple enough, no?

The Hangover Part III: Heather Graham Dishes Comedy Favorites

Heather Graham has been in movies for decades, but it is her experience in the first The Hangover movie that may sit at the top. As evidenced in The Hangover Part III trailer, she’s back in the final film in the franchise and phoned Movie Fanatic for an exclusive interview to talk about the finer points of enjoying an old-fashioned Hangover.

Heather Graham The Hangover Part III

The actress is clearly honored to be part of a blockbuster franchise that has humored millions. “It’s so fun to be part of this hugely successful comedy that so many people love," Graham said. "It’s great to be one of the people that made this movie.”

When it came to returning to work with The Hangover Part III leads Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms and Bradley Cooper, she welcomed the discovery that the trio have become huge stars and never let go of who they are at their core.

“It’s weird 'cause they’re all super successful now because of this movie. We now have much nicer trailers, nice little perks that we didn’t have before. I was really excited there was a juice bar! This was not there in the first one! These guys are these big movie stars. Whereas before they were these really talented actors and now they are giant movie stars,” Graham said.

“I thought it might be different. But, they are exactly how they were before. We immediately got back to a really fun and nice vibe.”

Her story within The Hangover universe is quite closely tied to Ed and his character of Stu. Although the marriage of the dentist and the escort did not work out, the actress who plays Jade still marvels at the unique talent that is The Daily Show graduate.

“He’s like the comedy Jimmy Stewart. He’s so likable and he has that quality that you just adore him,” Graham said. “I loved having our love story together and I was holding out hope that our characters would have gotten married. I was a little sad, but Jade’s got a really happy ending to her story. It was nice to work with him again. I’m such a huge fan."

When she got the script for The Hangover Part III, Graham was just slightly delighted that her character was married to a “real” doctor, living in a huge house. “When I went to shoot that day and I saw the house, I was like, ‘This house is massive!’ My character’s life is so much easier,” Graham said.

Heather Graham The Hangover

“Instead of leaving my baby with a bunch of guys I met the night before, my son has a gigantic toy room. I’m happy that Jade is a good mom.”

Keys to the success of the franchise are many, but it has to start with creator and director Todd Phillips. “I think he’s bold. He breaks the mold in terms of what you’re used to seeing in a comedy. He makes characters more morally ambiguous,” Graham said. “He doesn’t try to make them redeemable. He just goes for the comedy. At the same time, they are likable.”

The Hangover comedies are ones you can watch over and over. When asked what funny film is the same for Graham, her answer may surprise you.

Tootsie! I love Tootsie,” she admitted. “And I love this Billy Wilder movie The Apartment and I also love Harold and Maude."
