The Aaron Eckhart I, Frankenstein set photo set the internet afire. After the Comic-Con I, Frankenstein character posters were released, we finally have our hands on a first official still from the movie that re-imagines the Mary Shelley classic.

I, Frankenstein Aaron Eckhart Yvonne Strahovski

Lionsgate has unleashed its initial still for what is sure to be many for the film landing January 24, 2014.

Eckhart portrays a very different version of Frankenstein than audiences have ever seen and the photo above finds him with Yvonne Strahovski. And the story is wildly original as well as it follows a war between gargoyles and demons. How Frankenstein fits into all of this is a mystery, but we are intrigued.

The Wolverine: Hugh Jackman & James Mangold Talk Logan's Loneliness

Hugh Jackman was pulling double duty at Comic-Con this year. He participated in the X-Men: Days of Future Past press conference, which brought together 16 of the stars of the highly anticipated sequel to X-Men: First Class. But, just before he was joined onstage by 15 of hisX-Men friends, he was there with The Wolverine director James Mangold to talk about their second solo show for the breakout star of the X-Men movies.

Hugh Jackman James Mangold Comic-Con Photo

Jackman believes that the resonance of all of the X-Man characters’ popularity lies in the fact that they could be you or me.

“I think what X-Men did was invent a way to make superheroes human: Complex, flawed, interesting. That’s why they’re played by so many interesting and different actors. That’s why so many great directors take them on -- because there’s an opportunity for something very human as well as something spectacular.”

As a young child, he identified with characters that were popular at the time, and believes he sees a congruency with Logan/Wolverine and the rest of his X-Men kin.

The Wolverine Hiro Sanada and Hugh Jackman

“When I was growing up, I loved Mad Max. I loved Dirty Harry. I couldn’t get enough of them. That’s who I thought was cool, that’s who I wished I was like,” Jackman said.

“I think Wolverine fulfills that, that kind of archetype. He’s a bit of an anti-hero. Deep down he’s a good guy, but he’s never a nice guy. He’s conflicted and he is, in a way, flawed, but at the same time, he’s just the last person you want to piss off.”

Mangold could not be prouder of the film shown off in The Wolverine trailer. He’s excited for audiences to finally see his vision July 26.

“What I’m really proud of on the film and that we worked very hard to do is that we deliver intense action to the fans with Wolverine, but also deliver drama, deliver character work, deliver an actual movie which, between the set pieces of action, there are actual scenes of characters dealing with the ramifications of actions and where they’re headed,” Mangold said.

“I think that was really a big goal for all of us when we got involved in this, both to just let the reins go and go further with intensity, and at the same time, carry an audience through scenes that are dramatic in nature and don’t need explosions.”

The Wolverine James Mangold Hugh Jackman

When the second teaser arrived, The Wolverine trailer extended, some out there felt that from what they knew about the movie, the clips were misleading. Jackman and Mangold could not disagree more. “I think that’s a good question about trailers in general,” Jackman said and laughed.

Mangold simply says that is the case with most movies that are boiled down to a small amount of time. He believes… just go see the movie. “I think that you may be more satisfied with what you experience in the film than when it’s now cut up to two minutes and ten seconds,” he added.

What is in the film, Hugh?

“What is in the film, and I don’t mind saying, is … imagine being 200 or 300 years old and living with the fact that everyone you’ve known or loved has passed, and in the case of Jean Grey, the love of his life, he killed her as she’d become the Dark Phoenix,” Jackman said.

“At the end of X-Men: The Last Stand, he kills her and then roll credits. So finally in this movie we get a chance to live with what haunts Wolverine. What is it like having that immortality, being who he is and knowing that his strengths bring destruction, pain and loneliness? He questions the burden that is his life, but I’m not going to say he chooses.”

Thought the Kick-Ass 2 red band trailer for Comic-Con was hot, wait until you check out the new clip. It features Chloe Moretz, returning from the first film, and Morris Chestnut (The Call).

It is just us, or is the Joan Jett song playing in the background of this action-heavy clip simply awesome?

The Kick-Ass 2 scene features Moretz, who apparently is supposed to be in school, getting a phone call from Chestnut to check on her. He agrees to meet her at home… and the race is on. Clearly, she is not home sick as she told him she was!

Gravity Trailer: We Have To Get the Hell Out of Here!

Days after wowing us in San Diego at Comic-Con where Alfonso Cuaron and Sandra Bullock talked their sci-fi thriller Gravity with George Clooney, the film has released its second full length trailer. In a sense, this second teaser is really a full length clip showing how Bullock and Clooney’s astronauts wind up alone and floating in space.

The pair are working on the outside of their spaceship when space debris starts pummeling them and their ship. The title of the clip, Detached, comes from the command Clooney’s character is yelling at Bullock… who is attached to an arm of the spacecraft that is hurdling her through space.

This clip certainly delves even deeper than the thrills provided in the first Gravity trailer.

Gravity arrives in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D on October 4 and given the stunning outer space visuals we’ve seen so far from Cuaron… we’ll take the IMAX 3D… please and thank you!

X-Men: Days of Future Past Set Video: Magneto Movie Magic

No rest for the wicked, as the cast of X-Men: Days of Future Past are back to work on the Montreal set. Days after they shocked Comic-Con when the entire X-Men: Days of Future Past cast chatted up their sequel to X-Men: First Class, we’ve got a video of Michael Fassbender doing his Magneto dance with some very unlucky victims.

The video was taken on the Canadian set and it’s kind of fascinating to see the building of a scene. There is the pedantic, walking, and moving from front and back. But then, there’s the payoff… bam! Fassbender’s Magneto works his powers and people go flying.

Ah… the magic of movies. Sad we have to wait until May 23, 2014 to see X-Men: Days of Future Past. Movie Fanatic saw The Wolverine last night and all we can say until this embargo lifts is… stay through the credits!

We’re catching 47 Ronin fever. Just yesterday, we premiered the 47 Ronin character posters starring Keanu Reeves. Merely 24 hours later, Movie Fanatic has the first trailer for the epic-looking film starring Reeves as a reluctant warrior seeking revenge.

Reeves returns to the action genre (after most famously appearing in The Matrix and Speed) in a story of a vicious warlord who kills a Samurai master and banishes 47 warriors from their village. They will regroup, led by Reeves, and reclaim what was rightfully theirs.

Kai (Reeves) is a half-breed who his other Samurai had tolerated, but had no respect for. Yet, during their mission to make things right, they will learn that he may in fact, be the leader they need.

Directed by Carl Rinsch (The Gift), 47 Ronin also stars Hiroyuki Sanada, Rinko Kikuchi and Tabanobu Asano. Look for it this Christmas!

If that Saving Mr. Banks trailer didn't have you thinking Oscar for all those involved, nothing will. Disney has released the first official poster for Saving Mr. Banks, and it features Hanks, along with fellow two-time Oscar winner Emma Thompson.

Saving Mr. Banks Poster

Thompson portrays Mary Poppins author P.L. Travers, who in the film travels to Los Angeles to meet with Walt Disney (Hanks) as they prepare to make her book into a movie musical. Things, believe it or not given what a classic Mary Poppins would become, don’t go so smoothly as Travers believes Disney will make a mockery of her instant classic.

Saving Mr. Banks opens December 20, just in time to qualify for Oscar, and had us from that first image of Tom Hanks as Walt Disney

In the category of news that came out of left field, we have word that the team behind Fruitvale Station is planning a Rocky spin-off that is tentatively being called Creed. In our Fruitvale Station review, we called the movie one of the best of the year, and if anyone can bring this story to life, it’s writer-director Ryan Coogler and that film’s star Michael B. Jordan.

Michael B. Jordan Pic

Sylvester Stallone (seen recently in the Escape Plan trailer) will reprise his role as Rocky, and will appear as the reluctant trainer to Apollo Creed’s grandson (Jordan). In case you’re wondering and forgot, Carl Weathers played Creed in the Rocky series and died in the ring during Rocky IV opposite Dolph Lundgren.

RoboCop Comes to Comic-Con: Cast Chats Rebooting a Classic

From the moment we saw the RoboCop set images, we knew a movie we adored was getting a solid reboot. The cast of the RoboCop reboot arrived in San Diego for Comic-Con ready to talk about giving a fresh take to a classic action movie. Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, RoboCop himself, Joel Kinnaman, and director Jose Padilha could not have been more open about what audiences can expect when the roboticized policeman hits the streets February 7, 2014

RoboCop Cast at Comic-Con

First up, we ask the veterans of the movie franchise business -- Jackson and Keaton -- how making a film in a series differs from other artistic endeavors. “I think the biggest challenges for franchises are keeping them fresh and exciting, and most times, you need a good bad guy to make that thing continually work, and sometimes they don’t,” Jackson, veteran of the Star Wars and Marvel movies, said.

“I’ve been fortunate. I’ve been in some really good franchise films, you know, Star Wars and now the Marvel series. You have to have fresh characters coming in that make audiences want to see them and relate to them in that specific way because it takes a while to make these things happen. It’s like I keep asking the guys at Pixar why we didn’t make Incredibles 2 and nobody can tell me. Personally, I think it’s because they raised the bar so high. You don’t live up to the expectations that the first thing presented.”

For Keaton, who was the first of the modern era to appear in the Batman movies, admits that he finds filming a movie… is filming a movie. “The challenge is the same,” Keaton admitted.

“I’m not the person directing them or producing them so that would be a good question for that guy, but I go about the work the same way. Small movie, small role, giant movie, giant role -- work is work. You’ve got to tell the truth and show up.”

RoboCop Concept Art

The man who was Batman also reported that being keenly aware of what it is you are creating is an immense asset.

“You have to be realistic also about what you’re making. Clearly, these things are giant entertainment so there are certain decisions you make,” he said. “Even though you’re staying true to character, you go, yeah, you can have some fun here because by and large you know who the audience is going to be and you’re going to give them what they want in that audience.”

“I always try to make the movie I want to go see,” Jackson adds.

“Even if it’s morally irresponsible?” Keaton wonders of his co-star.

To which, Jackson responds, “Especially that!”

As they both laugh, we turn to the film’s star, Kinnaman. If anyone is more fit to play the part of RoboCop, it appears it’s him. “I’d probably seen RoboCop like 25 or 30 times. I started rehearsing my RoboCop walk way before I even became an actor. So I was pretty well versed in the Robo walk,” Kinnaman said.

He cautions other than the theme, audiences should expect a whole new journey, as previewed in the RoboCop teaser. “The 1987 vision of where robotics would be is very different from the 2013 vision of where robotics would be and how a robot would move 15 years into the future,” Kinnaman said.

“So when I got the suit on, I had some ideas. We went for more of a superhuman approach to his movement pattern, but then we added in some more robotic movement to it.”

Keaton on the other hand, revealed he was a RoboCop novice and welcomed the chance to put his stamp on a modern version of an iconic film. “I know very little about the original RoboCop. I’ve seen bits and pieces of it. So, my decision was based on a script that I read that I felt was pretty smart and well written,” he said.

RoboCop Joel Kinnaman

The first RoboCop utilized forward thinking in the sense of it painting a future ruled by ruthless corporations. One can argue whether our world is currently inhabited by “ruthless” businesses. But, one thing is certain: The corporate mentality permeates our society.

“I would actually claim that the corporations are the government,” director Padilha said.

“In the first movie, there was all the satire with the ads, the over-the-top corporation ads selling something that clearly was not the case. We do the same satire in our movie, but instead of using ads, we go for the media. To me, RoboCop is a beautiful story about Alex Murphy and this corporation that thinks it owns him because they created the parts that brought him back to life, but they can’t own Alex Murphy.”

Padilha felt for his star and having to wear the Robo costume. “The suit is hot. That’s the only thing. He wants to get in and out quick,” Padilha said.

“It’s a bit of a torture device. I was so glad that…” Kinnaman said before being interrupted by the man who was Batman.

“Bullshit! I’ve seen his suit. It’s air cooled,” Keaton interjected. “I was the pioneer of bad suits. His suit is for sissies.”

With The Wolverine hitting theaters Friday and bringing Logan/Wolverine back into action, the film is continuing a legacy of cinematic superheroes that began with 2000’s X-Men.

X-Men Cast Photo

There have now been five X-Men movies, with one about to be released, and another coming next year. Each has its fan base, with some more passionate about certain ones than others.

As the X-Men: Days of Future Past cast shocked us at Comic-Con and we talked to Hugh Jackman for The Wolverine, we’re kind of a little X-Men crazy right now.

So, over the course of the last 13 years, which one of the following X-Men movies is the absolute best? Many hardcore X-Men fans will say it's X-Men 2, while others say the going-to-the-past effort that is 2011’s X-Men: First Class.

Tell us…

What is your favorite X-Men movie?

The To Do List Exclusive: Aubrey Plaza Admits What Didn't Make the Sex List

Maggie Carey wrote and directed The To Do List and we met her and star Aubrey Plaza recently for an exclusive video interview. The pair talked about their coming-of-age sex comedy (teased brilliantly in this The To Do List red band trailer) that features Plaza’s valedictorian deciding she must lose her virginity (and more) before she heads off to college… and yes, major hilarity does ensue.

“She’s perfect,” Carey said. “I love when these Aubrey Plaza moments seep through. In the masturbation scene, there was a moment in there that I could never have written.”

You’ll have to see the movie to see what Grace is talking about, but it is pure Plaza, especially if you’ve seen her work on Parks and Recreation.

Aubrey also talked about the differences between being on a hit TV show and filming a movie comedy and what she appreciates out of both. “When you’re doing a movie, you have a journey, There’s a beginning, middle and end,” Plaza said. “When you’re on a TV show, you get to know your character so well and that’s really cool because there’s no end point.”

Plaza’s character ditches her “To Do List” to get ready for college and replaces it with The To Do List which includes various sexual things to try before she heads off to university. We wondered if anything didn’t make it to the list? Check out the video to see the answer about what didn't make The To Do List.

Fantastic Four Reboot Set to Start Production

The Fantastic Four reboot over at 20th Century Fox is starting to move forward. Previously it had been reported that it would build sets in Vancouver with a yet unnamed cast. When we emerged from Comic-Con, although the X-Men: Days of Future Past cast shocked us with a surprise visit, we had thought that the “surprise” Fox had promised us in the press was a reveal of the cast of Fantastic Four.

We left San Diego wondering what was up with that Marvel property.

The Fantastic Four Comic

Well, now we know. Although a cast has still not been announced, filmmakers have decided on Louisiana to start shooting their Fantastic Four reboot. Although there has been no cast announcement, this is still good news because it means that the project is moving forward.

Josh Trank is set to direct beginning in September, that much we know. And with his experience with Michael B. Jordan, who appeared in his film Chronicle, we think he would make a great Johnny Storm. Although with today’s news that the Creed-Rocky spin-off is happening with Jordan attached, we’re not sure how that fits. But, one can dream. When it comes to Sue Storm, might we recommend Allison Williams?

Star Wars Episode VII: Did Zac Efron, Ryan Gosling Audition?

Ryan Gosling, according to sources, has auditioned for the role of Luke’s son in Star Wars Episode VII. We can understand the fever for news about Star Wars Episode VII -- heck, the one about J.J. Abrams dropping out of Star Wars Episode VIIwon’t seem to go away. But, there seems to be a bit of truth to this one, considering (at least in our opinion) Gosling could easily pass for the son of Skywalker… aka Darth Vader’s grandson!

Ryan Gosling in Gangster Squad

There’s also news brewing that Zac Efron may have auditioned for a role in the film. The most logical choice would be Han Solo and Princess Leia’s child. I know what you’re thinking, “The kid from High School Musical in Star Wars?” Well… let’s give that a second to germinate. He’s got the looks. He can pull off the attitude (did you see The Paperboy? Probably not).

Believe it or not, both choices could work… honestly. Although both stars’ representatives have denied the rumors, we think nine times out of ten in Hollywood… rumors have a root in the truth.

What has us concerned more than anything is that filming is set to begin next year for a Star Wars Episode VII release date of 2015, with subsequent Star Wars films arriving each summer after. Now, we realize technology has things moving quicker than ever. But, if Lucas took years to put out each Star Wars movie… how is Abrams (that is if he doesn’t quit) going to shoot one, add effects, edit it and have it out in one year?

That, to Movie Fanatic, is the bigger question here than who’s playing whom?

Avengers Age of Ultron: Hawkeye Role Will Expand

After being disappointed in the role he played in The Avengers, it must have been music to Jeremy Renner's ears when Joss Whedon said that he sees the role of Hawkeye and his alter ego Clint Barton expanding in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Hawkeye is Jeremy Renner

As soon as it was announced at Comic-Con that TheAvengers sequel would be called Avengers: Age of Ultron, the attention shifted to what characters would play a bigger part, a smaller part and a new part. We already know that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will be there, but would about our favorite archer?

We all know that when Whedon was hired to rewrite The Avengers script, which everyone mostly agrees was a home run, he reduced the role of Hawkeye and Barton. Renner was not amused.

“At the end of the day, 90-percent of the movie, I’m not the character I signed on to play. I’m literally in there for two minutes,” Renner said two years ago. But he did come around.

"We’re pretty much introducing a new superhero character to everyone in a movie where there’s a thousand superheroes. So there’s not a lot of back story or understanding we can really tell about who Clint Barton is, or Hawkeye, and is he working for S.H.I.E.L.D. or not. There’s a lot of unanswered questions, even for me. And I was OK with that.”

Whedon, who normally is quite shy about releasing details, addressed the Hawkeye situation for Avengers: Age of Ultron and Renner should be thrilled.

“It’s very much a global Avengers film. A lot of the movie has to do with their place not just in America, but the world. Part of the fun for me, definitely this time around, is writing Hawkeye,” Whedon said.

And from the sounds of it, the filmmaker agrees with Renner’s sentiment regarding what happened to his character in the first film. “He did get possessed pretty early by a bad guy and had to walk around all scowly for most of the movie. So now it’s nice to actually have the character there and see him interact with the other guys.”

Prisoners Poster: What Would You Do?

The poster for Prisoners, the movie that magically pairs Jake Gyllenhaal and Hugh Jackman, has arrived and it has both their handsome faces -- front and center. Teased in the Prisoners trailer, the story follows Jackman, who is facing a parent’s hell when his six-year-old daughter, Anna, goes missing.

Heading the investigation that moves slower than Jackman wants it to is Detective Loki (Gyllenhaal, not Tom Hiddleston!). When he can’t find enough evidence to hold their only suspect (Paul Dano), he is released. It is then that Jackman takes things into his own hands.

Jackman goes deep, and has us thinking about what you would do as parents. How far would you go to ensure the safety of your children? Something tells me… all the way!

After yesterday’s release of a stunning Gravity trailer, Warner Bros. has unveiled a second and it is almost a continuation of the first. As the first was really a scene from the movie that left viewers breathless, this second one should force you to keep holding your breath!

Star Sandra Bullock talked Gravity at Comic-Con to Movie Fanatic, along with director Alfonso Cuaron, and between these two trailers and what they said to us in San Diego, Gravity has shot to the top of the list of films we want to see this fall.

Oscar winners George Clooney and Bullock team up and what Cuaron has to give audiences is basically two hours of these two superstars stranded in space. We can’t think of two better actors to carry a movie of this type. The film opens October 4.

The World’s End Featurette: Simon Pegg & Nick Frost Get Nostalgic

You can forgive Simon Pegg and Nick Frost if they seem a little excited and reflective at the same time. With the arrival of their film The World’s End, it marks the end of a trilogy with filmmaker Edgar Wright that began with Shaun of the Dead and continued with Hot Fuzz. In a new featurette exploring their new film, Pegg and Frost introduce, and then add commentary with Wright, as scenes of mayhem and hilarity come at the viewer with rapid fire.

As teased in The World’s End trailer, the film features Pegg and Frost, along with three other mates (Martin Freeman, Eddie Marsan and Paddy Considine), heading back to their English countryside hometown. Their goal: To finish the pub crawl they never could when they were young. The 12 watering holes conclude with the most famous of the pubs: The World’s End.

Only thing, it could be the end of the world for our heroes as something is afoot in their little hamlet. Most of the residents have become killer robots. Death be damned, they are going to finish this pub crawl! Look for The World’s End in theaters August 23.

Hot on the heels of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Comic-Con trailer, a new -- wildly intense -- international trailer has landed for one of the most anticipated movies of the year. In the spot, we hear Donald Sutherland as President Snow and we learn his devilish plan to hatch an all-star version of the Hunger Games that is at the heart of Catching Fire.

He says,”Her (Katniss') entire species must be eradicated.” To which Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s Plutarch Heavensbee asks, “Her species?”

“The victors,” Sutherland as Snow answers.

And thus, we have our all-star “Games.”

Catching Fire continues Suzanne Collins’ series and arrives November 22.

Joss Whedon Updates Black Widow Role in Avengers: Age of Ultron

Earlier today we reported that Avengers: Age of Ultron expands Hawkeye’s role and no one could be happier than star Jeremy Renner. Well, now we have learned that his partner in fighting crime, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, will also see more screen time and get more of a storyline that is integral to the drama of The Avengers sequel.

Black Widow is Scarlett Johansson

“Natasha is a huge part of the sequel because you do want to concentrate on the people who don't have their own franchises,” Whedon admitted. "She was the most fun for me because she's not a hero. It's a different thing -- it's a different skill set -- and you don't have their moral high ground or any of that good stuff. And that just makes her so interesting to me. So yeah, the stuff I've got going on with her in the second one is killer."

We like the sound of Avengers: Age of Ultron already. Now, how long do we have to wait? Oh yeah, May 1, 2015. Come on, calendar… turn!
