So far, we have only seen the blond god Thor on the Thor: The Dark World poster. Entertainment Weekly has published a new poster for the sequel to Thor that showcases the full cast… and gives us our first look at the love interest from the first film, Natalie Portman.

We honestly were beginning to wonder how she would fit into this sequel set in Asgard, but there she is on the poster below giving her man a nice hug.

Thor: The Dark World Cast Poster

In fact, Portman is looking very much the “queen” to Thor’s “king.” Hmmm....

As teased in the first Thor: The Dark World trailer, the story for the sequel is as big as a second film should be, with Thor not only trying to save Earth once again, but all Nine Realms from an evil enemy… who appears to be lurking in the background of the above poster. Yes, that is Malekith!

The rest of the gang is all there too, from Tom Hiddleston’s Loki to Stellan Skarsgard, Idris Elba, Jaimie Alexander, Anthony Hopkins and even Kat Dennings! Thor: The Dark World also welcomes newbies Zachary Levi and Rene Russo.

And there's more Thor sequel joy coming soon... as we reported, the second Thor: The Dark World trailer arrives August 7.

2 Guns Director Baltasar Kormakur: Mark Wahlberg & Denzel Washington Are "Gold"

It makes perfect sense when watching the 2 Guns trailer that director Baltasar Kormakur was influenced by some of those gritty 1970s movies where two alpha males went at each other to the delight of the audience. When we spoke to Kormakur for an exclusive interview, he stated just that… but his 2 Guns is much more than an ode to a film of another time.

2 Guns Denzel Washington Mark Wahlberg

He told us about how putting Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg together and challenging each to play against type was the true joy of filming the undercover cops who don’t know each is undercover movie.

Kormakur previously directed Wahlberg in Contraband, and lets us in on what is the secret to the Boston bred actor’s ever expanding success. The Icelandic director also chimes in about having Washington play someone totally different, the power of playing Bill Paxton for laughs and the explosive (and surprising) chemistry between his leads that truly makes 2 Guns go at full speed.

Movie Fanatic: What about the 2 Guns story most appealed to you to invest several years of your life?

Baltasar Kormakur: I love the tone, twists and turns that you don’t see coming. To have the opportunity to make a film that largely relies on the chemistry of the two leads is a joy. It’s fun to play those actors as those characters off of one another. The whole world that it happens in, I’ve been down at the (U.S.-Mexico) border. That too was very appealing. Also, I wanted to approach it in a different way. I think it had a little '70s vibe, which I liked.

Movie Fanatic: The chemistry between Denzel and Mark is explosive. It reminds me of some older movies…

Baltasar Kormakur: I’m a big fan of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and those kinds of movies with two alpha males. They are playing off each other. Over the years, that kind of thing has gone more comedic. I wanted to go more real, with two tough guys coming at each other.

2 Guns Mark Wahlberg Baltasar Kormakur

Movie Fanatic: Denzel with gold teeth… come on!

Baltasar Kormakur: It doesn’t get any better than that!

Movie Fanatic: When did you fully get the sense that Denzel and Mark were going to be so good together?

Baltasar Kormakur: There was a bit of a process. There was a likeness between them already, just personally. They started working at it and soon enough I realized, “This is actually amazing.” When we got it, it was gold. Keeping that going, for me, was a challenge for two months. I realized soon that this is what this movie is truly about. I knew Mark and I know he loves to be challenged with the best to bring up his game. I knew he would raise it with Denzel. He would not lie down next to Denzel and give him a fair fight.

Movie Fanatic: This is your second movie with Mark Wahlberg after Contraband. If we had said 15 years ago that Mark Wahlberg would become a huge movie star, it would not have seemed real. Yet, he’s everything you want out of a movie star. What is so special about Mark?

Baltasar Kormakur: He’s street smart and there’s no (expletive) with him. His ego does not get in his way. He’s there for the project. I think that’s why he’s become such a big movie star is directors like me love working with people like that. I remember when I saw him in Boogie Nights -- there was something real and raw about him. There was something about the scene with him and his mother, it was so real. When you see that in an actor, you know he or she is the real deal.

Movie Fanatic: What was your biggest obstacle to getting 2 Guns in the can?

Baltasar Kormakur: The whole movie was a big challenge because we didn’t have a big budget and lots of days. We only had like 50 days, so every day was a challenge. But, I’d say the biggest challenge was the scene with the bull. Nothing like stringing up two big stars upside down for two days [laughs]!

Baltasar Kormakur Denzel Washington Mark Wahlberg 2 Guns

Movie Fanatic: Bill Paxton is also in 2 Guns and as we can even see in the 2 Guns clip, he’s kind of slimy in this one…

Baltasar Kormakur: The idea came up for Bill Paxton to play that part and I loved the idea that it was something different. It’s the same with Denzel and comedy -- it’s something you have never seen before. That’s why this movie is refreshing. It’s very challenging, but it’s really rewarding if you pull it off. This movie does not take itself too seriously, and that’s part of playing with the image of Bill Paxton. When you see someone you know do something different, it’s always great.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is Finally Moving Forward

After numerous director-actor combinations came and went, it appears that things are finally in place for The Man from U.N.C.L.E. to start filming. Movie Fanatic previously reported that Henry Cavill replaced Tom Cruise in the lead and that Guy Ritchie was now the director.

Guy Ritchie Shows His Director Hands

Variety reported today that Ritchie is set to start shooting the TV to big screen effort in September. The cult 1960’s spy show has been through the Hollywood wringer trying to make that leap to the silver screen. Previous incarnations had Quentin Tarantino writing and directing with a who’s who of actors set to star. There was even a while where it was a project with frequent collaborators Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney (Oceans Eleven) set to make the movie.

But, now that Ritchie has settled on a star and a script that he co-wrote with his Sherlock Holmes writer Lionel Wigram …fans of the spy series can breathe a sigh of relief because this thing is finally going to happen. Cavill even has a co-star as it has been announced that The Lone Ranger star Armie Hammer will play Illya Kuryakin to Cavill’s Napoleon Solo.

Ritchie has been given a $75 million budget from Warner Bros. with shooting planned for London and Italy.

The premise of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is the exploits of two spies, one Russian and one American, working together to solve international crises in the middle of the Cold War.

On paper, this sounds brilliant.

Bryan Singer continues his Twitter love affair from the set of X-Men: Days of Future Past. From the first photo of Jennifer Lawrence in full makeup to what could be Quicksilver’s house, the director has clearly been having fun teasing fans of the X-Men franchise. His latest Twitpic could be his best. Singer is standing next to a full-size Sentinel on the set of his epic.

Bryan Singer X-Men Days of Future Past Sentinel

The entire X-Men: Days of Future Past cast truly could not contain their thrill at being able to work together at Comic-Con recently. And it is easy to see why. When your helmer loves his work as much as it is clear that Singer does, then the actors will obviously be enjoying the daily grind of filming a blockbuster movie as well.

And you know what they say: If those on and behind the camera are having fun… so too will the audience. So, then prepare to have an utter blast when X-Men: Days of Future Past lands in theaters May 23, 2014.

James Cameron Announces Avatar Sequel Will Be First of Three

When James Cameron speaks, the film world listens. So, when he announced today that his Avatar sequel that he is currently filming will actually be the first of three sequels, we at Movie Fanatic thought we felt the Earth shake down the street from us at the 20th Century Fox lot.

Initially, Cameron was making two sequels to Avatar. But, once he got into the process of making the movie, the idea hit him and his team for a third movie.

Zoe Saldana as Neytiri

The three Avatar sequels will be filmed one right after the other, so we know what Cameron will be doing for the next several years! Look for the first sequel to arrive in December 2016 and each following a year to the month after.

Cameron has contracted screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Shane Salerno (Savages) and Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds) to hunker down and pen the three scripts for the trifecta of Avatar sequels.

Cameron, in a statement released by Fox, maintains he is continuing the mission he began with the first Avatar.

“Building upon the world we created with Avatar has been a rare and incredibly rewarding experience. In writing the new films, I've come to realize that Avatar's world, story and characters have become even richer than I anticipated, and it became apparent that two films would not be enough to capture everything I wanted to put on screen,” he said.

“And to help me continue to expand this universe, I'm pleased to bring aboard Amanda, Rick, Shane and Josh -- all writers I've long admired - to join me in completing the films' screenplays."

The State of the Superhero Movie: Golden Age of Comic Book Films?

$
0
0

The Wolverine won the box office battle this past weekend and extended the streak of superhero movies that have opened at number one. But believe it or not, it wasn't always that way.

Batman vs. Superman Logo

When Richard Donner set out to make Superman with Christopher Reeve in the title role, teeth had to be pulled to get the film green lit.  Movies based on comic books were thought to be a fools' game where the big loser would be the studios' bottom line.

If you look at the current top 20 grossing movies of all time, comic book films fill out four of the spots. Think about that, a fifth of the movies that have made more money than any other in history... are based on comic books.

Selling millions of tickets does not necessarily equate to high quality of the movie itself, but if you were to rate how the superhero movie is doing in terms of how good these movies are, things are pretty solid out there at the moment.

Even forgetting how close we were to not seeing Reeve as the Man of Steel, superhero movies have had their fair share of projects that were not only subpar, but were downright disasters.

Green Lantern: Ryan Reynolds

Having an established property is not enough to cull the maximum power of the movies. Movies such as The Shadow, Daredevil, Catwoman, The Hulk(s), Green Hornet and Green Lantern show that as the center of a movie enterprise, a solid and compelling story must be present.

That was a lesson that was never so fully realized as in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy. When Batman Begins hit, people were blown away by what they were witnessing. It wasn't just the talent of Christian Bale and the power of Nolan's direction, but it was John Goyer's script that took the film to the upper echelons of movie magic. The second film in the series even won an Oscar for Heath Ledger and came within a hair of earning an Oscar nod for Best Picture.

Since Nolan's series debuted, the superhero movie has been on a roll of epic proportions. Where Iron Man and his Marvel studio cohorts Captain America and Thor set a high standard, their collective effort The Avengers sent the bar for superheroes through the roof.

And now with the success of Man of Steel ($644 million globally and counting) and the announcement that Batman will be in the Man of Steel sequel, it appears that DC Comics is catching up to where Marvel is -- although with Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Thor: The Dark World all on the horizon, DC still has much ground to cover.

The Avengers in Action

But the news could not be better for superhero fans who adore seeing their larger-than-life favorites on the big screen. The state of the superhero movie has honestly never been better. I could even argue that we are indeed in a golden age of comic book movies.

And frankly, I see no end in sight.

The Spectacular Now: Miles Teller & Shailene Woodley Also Dish Divergent

Could The Spectacular Now stars Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley be turning into the new Spencer Tracey/Audrey Hepburn or Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan? After their coming-of-age story, audiences will once again see them paired in the highly anticipated Divergent. “How about Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet?” Woodley suggested of her tandem with Teller in our exclusive video interview.

What is it about the other, we wondered, that has them starring in both The Spectacular Now and Divergent -- all in the same calendar year? “I like Miles because we work the same way,” Woodley said. “Both of us memorize our lines and come to set and play. That’s very rare.”

Teller concurred and then some. “With Shailene it’s whatever you want to try, let’s explore it.”

As seen in The Spectacular Now trailer, the film follows Woodley and Teller’s characters as they navigate life as high school ends and the rest of their lives begin. Stay with Movie Fanatic for our review going live tomorrow that further explores this touching and astounding piece of work.

The World’s End Motion Poster: One Pub Crawl to End Them All

Focus Features has released a new motion poster for The World’s End that is, as they say in Britain, bloody brilliant. The film is the final chapter in the Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy from director Edgar Wright and stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

The World’s End lands in theaters August 24 and it is every bit as awesome as one would expect. That’s all you’ll hear from us until the embargo lifts, but if you adore their first works -- Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz -- then you are in for a treat of the frostiest varieties.

As seen in The World’s End trailer, Pegg and Frost are part of a quintet of old friends who have a big amount of regret when it comes to something they did 20 years ago. They failed to complete the Golden Mile. What is the Golden Mile, you ask? It is twelve pubs that must be conquered in one night of revelry. As younger versions of themselves, they barely made it to the tenth.

Pegg brings the gang back together for “one pub crawl to end them all.” Only thing is their hometown has been taken over by robots… or are they aliens? We won’t tell… you’ll have to wait until August 24!

2 Guns Review: Double Barreled Action

$
0
0

The best thing 2 Guns has going for it is its two leads -- Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg. That is why, honestly, the film’s moniker could not be more perfect. The two acting superstars come at you like a double barreled shot of adrenaline and action. And what makes 2 Guns even more fun, is the two never take themselves too seriously and have a riotous ball (and so do we) in the process.

Denzel Washington Mark Wahlberg in 2 Guns

The 2 Guns trailer gets it pretty spot on. The film is, at its core, a story about two undercover agents who are working together -- yet neither one knows the other is legit. Washington and Wahlberg believe that the other is a crook. What is so fascinating about the script by Blake Masters (based on a graphic novel by Steven Grant) is that he doesn’t draw out that bit of information throughout his film. In fact, it is revealed by the end of the first act.

Therefore, Washington and Wahlberg are free to wield distrust, angst, betrayal and a bevy of other emotions that add up to a powder keg of dramatic (and sometimes comedic) power throughout the remaining two thirds of the film.

Baltasar Kormakur could not have been a more perfect choice to helm the production. He previously worked with Wahlberg on Contraband and the Icelandic director clearly has found his Leonardo DiCaprio to his Martin Scorsese. They have a shorthand that is clear throughout, and Washington, as everyone knows, is such a pro that he just jumps right in… but never commandeers the film. The two-time Oscar winner knows this is a buddy thriller and each actor comes to the table ready to do their best.

As told to us in our Baltasar Kormakur exclusive interview, the filmmaker was inspired by 1970s films and also one in particular from 1969: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Kormakur has crafted an action thriller that would make filmmakers of that era proud. He uses the Mexican-Texas border as a backdrop in a way that the locale almost becomes its own character. And there’s a stylized manner to his camera work that not only fits the location, but also the actors' performances and the story itself.

As good as Washington and Wahlberg are together, if anyone “steals” scenes, it’s Bill Paxton. His CIA agent is key to the entire mystery of a small town bank that for some reason our leads discover has over $40 million in a safe deposit box. Paxton is not necessarily our “bad” guy, but he certainly does his best to ruin everyone’s day who gets in his way. It is a performance that is simultaneously pure Paxton, and also something we’ve never seen before from the veteran actor.

2 Guns Denzel Washington Bill Paxton

Our 2 Guns review finds that there are a few flaws in the picture. Like, Wahlberg’s character is Navy Special Forces and we’re not sure there is a huge Navy presence in rural Texas. Also Paula Patton gives a riveting performance as a colleague/romantic interest of Washington and her part essentially adds up to a glorified wallflower. As chilling as she was in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, the actress’ talents are kind of lost in 2 Guns. And the film is just a bit clunky and doesn't quite flow as smoothly as it needs to.

Yet, overall, 2 Guns is a complete blast. From beginning to end the film has you guessing how this story will play out and if, and when, these two leads will put aside their differences and work some good guy magic. When that time comes, you’ll never see it coming.

In the end, and if nothing else, we want 2 Guns to do bonanza business -- solely so we can witness the tandem of Washington and Wahlberg working their wizardry collectively.

Machete Kills Trailer: Go Kick Some Ass!

The latest trailer for Robert Rodriguez’s return to the world of Machete with Machete Kills has landed. Danny Trejo gets his second go-around as the titular character and the actor was clearly born to play Rodriguez’s anti-hero. From the first Machete Kills trailer, we knew this was going to be something that was pure Rodriguez pushing the envelope of action and violence. And we'd argue, he has even upped the ante from the first Machete.

Machete Kills hits theaters October 11 and also stars a who’s-who of performers who seem to be more than game to dive into this ultra violent and stylized world. Want proof? Just check out the character posters for stars Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara, Lada Gaga and even Carlos Estevez as the President of the United States. Who is Estevez you ask? Why… it’s Charlie Sheen!

Ellen DeGeneres Tapped to Host Oscars

Ellen DeGeneres took to Twitter to make the announcement that honestly we’ve been waiting for for quite some time. The question of who will host the Academy Awards has been answered by a simple, but effective, tweet.

Ellen DeGeneres Photo

"It's official: I'm hosting the #Oscars! I'd like to thank @TheAcademy, my wife Portia and, oh dear, there goes the orchestra."

March 2 will find her taking the Dolby Theater stage to award the best of the best that Hollywood produced this year. Two years ago they hired Billy Crystal as Oscar host and it appears that the Academy is playing it safe yet again after last year's controversial turn with Seth MacFarlane as Oscar host

This is the second go-around for DeGeneres, who first hosted Hollywood’s biggest night in 2007.

There is more to come on this developing story. For now… let us know what you think.

Is Ellen DeGeneres a good choice to host the Oscars?

Between the Ender’s Game trailer and our Ender’s Game Harrison Ford interview at Comic-Con, we have to admit that the YA novel turned big screen adventure has us extremely interested.

Harrison Ford stars as a teacher of young interstellar fighter pilots in a role that could almost be Han Solo as an older man. The film has released its final poster before its November 1 release.

Ender’s Game also stars Ben Kingsley, Viola Davis and two up-and-coming stars portraying the most promising of Ford’s charges: Asa Butterfield (Hugo) and Hailee Steinfeld (Oscar nominee for  True Grit).

The Spectacular Now Review: A Coming of Age Treat

$

After witnessing the majesty that is The Spectacular Now, it is easy to see how the film won the Sundance Acting Award. Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley are a match made in heaven and this film should firmly plant them on the map of go-to Hollywood young stars that need to be everywhere. Well, Woodley for one, has a big gig coming up as the lead in Divergent… and who should be her supporting actor in that blockbuster in waiting? Teller!

The Spectacular Now Shailene Woodley Miles Teller

Teller and Woodley are fantastic together, and that is perhaps why they are appearing in two films together this year. Their chemistry is the key to The Spectacular Now and its coming-of-age story of two recent high school graduates who have different views on life and yet somehow, they manage to come together in the most innocently romantic of ways.

The Spectacular Now's lead character is clearly Teller’s Sutter Keely. The opening moments of the film find him at a desk, typing on a computer. He is penning his essay for a college application and we learn a bit about him through Teller’s narration. Sutter is clearly a lost soul. He thinks he knows it all, but in fact that opinion could be furthest from the truth.

Sutter has the dream girlfriend, at least so he thinks. When she breaks his heart in the opening moments of the film, he is even more lost than before. After a drunken night, he is passed out on a random suburban front lawn and Woodley’s Aimee awakes him. Immediately there’s a spark between these two, but in the cutest of awkward ways.

Aimee is a straight-A student, who finds joy in the pages of a book more than a raging kegger. As opposed to Sutter, she has a firm direction and knows not only where she wants to go in her future, but she keenly is aware of how to get there. Yet, she could learn a few things about life as well from Sutter.

Shailene Woodley Miles Teller The Spectacular Now

That is at the core of why The Spectacular Now works so well. It is even teased brilliantly in The Spectacular Now trailer. Teller and Woodley’s characters need each other, more than they could ever have predicted. They could not be more different, but that is why they gel. Aimee could use some fun, and Sutter is definitely in need of some structure.

James Ponsoldt's direction is evenhanded and light. He orchestrates a teen drama with the most effortless nature, yet it still packs the punch it needs. Screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber have given their director and his cast a gem to work with. The dialogue is smart, crisp, humorous, heartfelt and will tug at your heart.

Our The Spectacular Now review finds that it is the rare teen-centric movie that manages to treat youngsters as fully formed individuals, who just happen to be experiencing the first chapters of their lives.

Streetdance Exclusive Clip: Hip Hop Takes Over

The UK film Streetdance has become a sensation and now it is poised to attack American shores. Movie Fanatic presents an exclusive clip that shows the hip-hop side of the dance battle when a group of street dancers do their thing. Perhaps it is the New York Yankee fan in me, but they look good moving to the beats with a big “NY” adorning all their hats!

The other side of this dance-off film is a group of Royal ballet dancers. So, what beef could they have with the street hoofers?

As seen in the Streetdance trailer, they must share a rehearsal space and what begins as a war will wind up with both groups finding common ground and forging a new dance style that should start a sensation.

Streetdance is in the vein of Save the Last Dance and the Step Up movies and is directed by Max Giwa and Dania Pasquini and features an up-and-coming cast, as well as veteran actress Charlotte Rampling.

The film is out now on VOD!

Jayne Mansfield’s Car Trailer: Billy Bob Thornton Follows Up Sling Blade

For the first time since the acclaimed Sling Blade, Billy Bob Thornton has written, directed and is starring in a movie. His Jayne Mansfield’s Car has had its first trailer premiere and from the looks of it, Thornton may have another Southern-fried hit on his hands.

The film follows the tenuous relationship between a father and a son in 1969. Their interactions have changed over the years as the world is drastically changing around them. The father and son tale is also a story of war and peace, and with Thornton wielding his prose and camera for the first time in over a decade, count on this story to pack a major punch.

The Jayne Mansfield’s Car poster has premiered and it features the film’s stellar cast that includes Thornton, Robert Duvall, John Hurt (recently seen in The Host), Kevin Bacon, Robert Patrick, Frances O’Connor and Ray Stevenson.

And by the way, let's get that rumor going again that Thornton is talking about making Bad Santa 2!

Weekend Movie Preview: August 2, 2013

$

The first weekend in August is remarkably quiet on the new movie front. Perhaps the major studios want to stay away from the powerful tandem that is Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington in 2 Guns. The pair star as undercover agents in the first time these two explosive actors have appeared in the same film.

In a brilliant counter-programming move, Sony has released The Smurfs 2, a film that children will thoroughly enjoy. Also opening this weekend is a smaller movie, but one that is big on heart. The Spectacular Now stars Divergent actors Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller as a couple of recent high school grads who find each other and perhaps... a future.

2 Guns: Wahlberg and Washington have bombastic chemistry, as we stated in our 2 Guns review, but that is not the only reason to see the film. It is a fascinating and timely story of a battle of wills along the U.S. border with Mexico. Bill Paxton almost steals the entire movie as a sleazy CIA agent trying to muscle his way to get his share of a "found" $40 million. Although Paula Patton is hardly used, it's still great to see her make a solid follow-up to Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.

The Smurfs 2: Kids will go completely Smurfy for the sequel to 2011's The Smurfs. This time out the action shifts from New York City to Paris. It seems that the awful wizard Gargamel (Hank Azaria) has kidnapped Smurfette and hopes to turn her to his evil ways in order to finally succeed with his plan to destroy all that is Smurfs. As we reported in our The Smurfs 2 review, the film is squarely aimed at kids and adults might find it a bit pedantic.

The Spectacular Now: This film is utterly Spectacular! Teller and Woodley preview their chemistry for Divergent in the story of two recent high school grads who find love and a whole lot more during their own summer of love. Our The Spectacular Now review found that the film works largely due to the fact that filmmakers fully paint their teenaged characters, instead of making them cardboard cutouts of stereotypes that audiences have long ago grown tired of.

Elysium: Matt Damon Part Originally for Eminem?

$

From the very first Elysium trailer to the latest set of Elysium clips, one thing has been for certain: This is so a Matt Damon movie. Yes, it is clearly a Neill Blomkamp feature with its look, story and powerful take on attacking the notion of the haves versus the have nots. But, Movie Fanatic just learned a little something about the soon-to-be smash hit that is frankly quite surprising -- Eminem was initially offered the role that Damon eventually took.

Eminem Picture

Look, we loved Eminem in Eight Mile and think that the rapper has a huge future in film… if he wants it. Clearly he did not or he would have boarded that Blomkamp ship to Elysium. What’s even more compelling… Damon wasn’t even the second choice behind the Detroit hip hop star. Eminem was second, behind Ninja of the band Die Antwoord from the helmer’s home country of South Africa.

Hey, casting happens for a reason. If Steven Spielberg had gotten his first choice for Raiders of the Lost Ark, Tom Selleck would be Indiana Jones instead of the icon that is Harrison Ford.

But, here’s the thing (and we just saw Elysium last night)… Damon is incredible in the part and flexes his talent on every frame. Yet, we could still see Eminem in the role… although it would be a completely different movie.

Fifth Bourne Movie is Coming with Jeremy Renner Returning

$

0

Universal Pictures has announced plans to make a fifth movie in the Bourne series. Rumors had Matt Damon returning to the franchise that he made famous alongside Jeremy Renner from The Bourne Legacy. But those now appear to be false… or at least premature.

Jeremy Renner in The Bourne Legacy

Renner will be back as Aaron Cross after killing it in the fourth Bourne movie. The studio has hired Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes) to pen the script and it is expected that Tony Gilroy will return to the director’s chair for a second time after his debut in the series for The Bourne Legacy. Gilroy also was the screenwriter for the first three Bourne movies, so there is no one better who knows that world inside and out… except for perhaps the original books’ author, Robert Ludlum.

When we can expect to see a fifth Bourne movie is still unknown, as is any kind of idea as to where the series will go after Bourne and Rachel Weisz were seen sailing into the sunset.
