And to all you singles out there - you can always curl up with a good romantic movie too.  Or perhaps a slasher film?  We won't judge.

What's your favorite romance movie?

Check out our list after the jump!

TOP 10 ROMANTIC MOVIES OF ALL TIME

#10 - Dirty Dancing

Dirty Dancers

This 1987 classic dance film was all about the chemistry between the two main characters.  Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey as Johnny and Baby lit up the screen with their forbidden love just as much as their dancing.  "No one puts baby in the corner..."

#9 - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Meeting in the Middle

People might wonder why this one is on the list, but the epic romance between Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett is just devastating.  As Benjamin continues to grow younger, Daisy stubbornly ages, causing a rift between these two lovers.  The film is engaging and heartbreaking all at the same time.  It's truly a love that lasts a lifetime.

#8 - The Princess Bride

Princess Bride Picture

The classic tale of everlasting love is explored in this classic love story with great action, fantasy, and a serious case of mistaken identity.  You'll be rooting for Buttercup and Westley right from the beginning.  It also features a very young Robin Wright as Buttercup - blast from the past!

#7 - Notting Hill

Notting Hill Photo

Notting Hill brings together two great actors - Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. It's a mixture of comedy and sweetness as the unlikely pair navigate the world of fame vs. normalcy.  The two have a great chemistry as Anna Scott and William Thacker and it makes for a great feel-good romantic comedy.

#6 - Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice Photo

Jane Austen's classic British literature is played out on the big screen flawlessly by Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennett and Matthew McFayden as Mr. Darcy.  The film is all about first impressions and letting those impressions get in the way of seeing the real person underneath.  The two take quite the journey before discovering they really are in love.

#5 - A Walk to Remember

Jamie and Landon Picture

A perfect portrait of young love is portrayed in this adaptation of Nicolas Sparks' sappy romantic novel.  The film stars Mandy Moore and Shane West as Jamie and Landon.  Landon is a bad boy who is reformed by Jamie's love and patience.  Jamie warns Landon not to fall in love with him, which he assures her he will never do.  You can guess what happens next.  You might need a couple boxes of tissue for this one!

#4 - Love Story

Love Story Photo

Love story is a classic!  Starring Ryan O'Neal and Ally McGraw as star-crossed lovers from two very different backgrounds in the 1960's.  When Oliver Barrett IV is threatened to be disowned, he must choose between love an obligation.  The film shows many different sides of love and it's not all sunshine and roses.  But the films message is clear:  "Love means never having to say you're sorry."

#3 - Moulin Rouge

Moulin Rouge Photo

Another tear-jerker starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGreggor as Satine and Christian.  Satine is a courtesan who is being forced to marry the Duke in order to support the Moulin Rouge, yet she falls in love with the penniless writer.  Set to a back drop of classic songs repurposed, this film is a classic love story in an unusual setting.  It is the story of a "love that will live forever."

#2 - Casablanca

Casablanca Photo

A classic love story starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman in a heartbreaking story about choosing what's best for yourself or the one you love.  Bogart plays Rick Blaine, a bar owner, who is forced to choose between being with the woman he loves or heloing her escape with her husband, during WWII.  The flashback scenes alone will have your heart racing. "Here's looking at you, kid."

#1 - The Notebook

The Notebook Picture

If you ask 100 women what they think is the greatest romance movie of all time, many will agree - it's The Notebook.  The film could have been a complete flop - overly sappy and ridiculous, but the chemistry between Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling is through the roof and makes this film one of the greatest love stories ever to hit the big screen.  Allie is a rich city boy who falls in love with poor country boy Noah.  They are separated by years, but find their way back to each other in an epic rain-kissing scene.  All notions of kissing in the rain are completely ruined by this movie.

WHAT'S ON YOUR LIST?  HAVE YOUR SAY!

Charlize Theron has signed on to star in the highly anticipated Prometheus, according to Variety.  The film is already generating a lot of buzz and we don't even know that much about it.

It is widely rumored to be a prequel to Alien, but director Ridley Scott has denied it, saying, "while Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place."

Beautiful Charlize Theron

Variety reports Theron has signed a deal to star in the film, though we don't know how big a part or what that part will entail.

Noomi Rapace (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) and Michael Fassbender are also confirmed to be starring in the film.

Fox recently changed the release date from March 9, 2012 to high-profile summer blockbuster spot of June 8, 2012.

UPDATE: MGM Has Three Films in Development

0
0

UPDATE:  We talked with an MGM insider who told us the films listed below are NOT on the development list, as previously reported by Variety.

MGM has NO films on their slate other than the previously announced Hobbit, currently in production in New Zealand; the upcoming Bond 23, currently in pre-produciton; and the recently announced co-financing deal with Paramount for the new 3D Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.

All these films will be released in 2012.

MGM has announced it will go forward with five new films, according to Variety.  The publication is reporting the studio will distribute remakes of Mr. Mom and The Idolmaker.

It will also be involved with a couple reboots as well, including a RoboCop reboot, Poltergeist reboot, and an adaptation of Hercules.

Hercules PosterPoltergeist Poster

Mr. Mom PosterRoboCop Poster

There have already been three RoboCop films so far - the first one in 1987, the second in 1990, and the third coming out in 1993.

Hercules was famously done a few years back by Disney, but there hasn't been much else done about this mythical son of Zeus.  It would be interesting to see a live action version of the greek god on the big screen.

Poltergeist has also had a few remakes and sequels in its year.  The first film was released in 1982 and starred Craig T. Nelson.  Sequels followed the popular film, written by Steven Spielberg, in 1986 and 1988.

The original Mr. Mom made in 1983 starred a very young Michael Keaton and was written by famed 80s filmmaker John Hughes.

Are you exicted to see these remakes or should Hollywood come up with more original ideas?

I Am Number Four Review: A Fast-Paced, Entertaining Teen Action Flick

0
0

I Am Number Four provides some great action scenes and some good looking actors for teens to faun over - all the right ingredients for a great teen sci-fi action flick.

A lot of newcomers are introduced in this film and they perform decently for their first foray into a big blockbuster movie.

John Discovers His Powers

Alex Pettyfer plays John Smith, an escapee from the planet Lorien.  He is number four of 9 remaining aliens hiding out on earth from invaders, called Mogadotians, who took over their home planet. The film opens with the killing of number 3 - the escapees must be killed in succession. John is next.

John tries to hide from the Mogadotians by pretending to be a normal high school kid, trying to fit into high school in Paradise, Ohio.  He falls for Sarah (Dianna Agron) and befriends Sam (Callan McAuliffe), a UFO-nut who is an outcast bullied in school.

John (Number Four) must defeat the Mogadotians in order to survive, along with the help of number six (Theresa Palmer).

Alex Pettyfer and Dianna Agron in I Am Number Four

I Am Number Four offers many exciting and tense moments that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The film is definitely geared toward a younger audience, and teens who love Twilight will probably really enjoy this action packed sci-fi thriller.  The first half is a little bit too teen romancey, but the second half ramps it up with some good action and nail-biting suspense.

Dianna Agron Stars in I Am Number Four

Pettyfer has the foreboding stare down to a tee and shines in a couple scenes, but overall he's a little flat.

Dianna Agron performance came across a little bit forced and unnatural, but she's totally cute and makes a good romantic interest for Alex Pettyfer's John.

Newcomer Callan McAuliffe proves to be a good little actor with some substantial scenes to show off his skills. He is the only one who captures any depth in his character and it comes across on screen.

Alex Pettyfer and Callan McAuliffe Star in I Am Number Four

Theresa Palmer is one hot kick-ass babe.  She does a very good job with the action scenes and we would love to see her kick some more butt in any sequels!

The best thing about this film is that director D.J Caruso doesn't portray his women as damsels in distress.  They prove to be strong, confident women and don't need men to save them.

Theresa Palmer is Number Six

Overall, I Am Number Four is a fast-paced enjoyable action flick that doesn't drag.  The ending provides opportunity for sequels and if the audience is interested, it would be the perfect movie to create a franchise.  We would watch another one.

Unknown Review: Some Good Twists, But Don't Think About It Too Much

0
0

Liam Neeson towers over everyone with his tall physique in the new psychological thriller Unknown and his overpowering presence is one of the only good things about this flat film.

Dr. Martin Harris (Neeson) and his wife Liz (January Jones) travel to Berlin for a biotech conference, but Harris accidentally leaves his briefcase at the airport.  The couple make it all the way to the hotel before Harris figures out it's missing, so he takes a taxi back.  En route to the airport, he is in a terrible accident and is in a coma for four days.

A Misunderstanding?

When he returns to the hotel to find his wife, she does not know who he is and insists another man (Aiden Quinn) is her husband named Martin Harris.

Harris finds the taxi driver, Gina (Diane Kruger), and makes it his mission to find out why this new man has taken over his life.

Diane Kruger Stars in Unknown

There are quite a lot of twists and turns and the ending is definitely a surprise - it actually makes up for the mediocre set up leading to the big reveal.

The film is completely unrealistic at times and it seems to rely more on the shock factor and plot twists than any substantial story or character development.

Director Juame Collet-Sera focuses on stuffing as many twists into the ever-changing plot as he can; he doesn't seem to consider the details or concern himself with flushing out the plot to create a seamless story.

Liam Neeson as Martin Harris in Unknown

For example, Neeson tries to convince a colleague from Berlin, whom he's never me but talked with on the phone, that he is the actual Martin Harris.  Both alledged Martin Harris' are in the same room trying to convince the man.  Wouldn't you think the man would recognize the right voice from the phone conversations?

The film seems to assume the audience will simply accept things that make it convenient for the filmmakers.

They want us to take the movie seriously, but include a lot of silly car explosions and bombing scenes without any outside ramifications or explanation - similar to a lot of action movies people know not to take seriously, but not what you would expect in a thinking psychological thriller.

Liam Neeson and January Jones in Unknown

Neeson is one of the only good things about the film and he is convincing as a man thoroughly confused and desperate. He proves he can perform the action scenes as well as any limber young action star, but he's also got the acting chops to complete the package.

Diane Kruger plays a convincing sidekick, although we're not sure why German-born Kruger would play a illegal immigrant from Eastern Europe who's in Berlin.  Again, the filmmakers just conveniently include her,  but don't provide any real explanation for her or develop her character, which would have made the story even richer.

Liam Neeson Loses His Identity in Unknown

Overall, you will be entertained with some great twists and it will keep you on the edge of your seat, but don't try to think about it too much.

Oscar Watch: Best Animated Film

0
0

What will win best animated film?  It seems Toy Story 3 has it in the bag, considering it is also nominated for the coveted Best Picture award and is the only animated film in that category.

2010 offered some pretty good animated hits, so it might not be quite as predictable as originally thought.

Here are the nominees.

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE

How Did You Get Up There?Stoick Faces the Dragon

The Illusionist Photo

How To Train Your Dragon -This film was extremely funny and extremely popular.  Filmmakers are already getting ready for a sequel and perhaps subsequent films as well.  The story centers on a young Viking who wants to hunt dragons, but becomes friends with one by mistake and learns they are more complex creatures than he originally thought. It is a cute movie about unlikely friendships and breaking stereotypes.

The Illusionist - A French/British film about a French illusionist who is out of work and travels to Scotland, where he meets a young girl who is convinced he is a real magician.  The two go on many adventures that change both their lives forever.  This seems to be the dark horse of the category considering it wasn't widely released in America.  The Academy members who vote are supposed to watch all the films before voting, so maybe it will impress voting members.

Toy Story 3 - This film is by far the one to beat.  Toy Story 3 was the highest grossing film that earned the highest critical praise of the entire year.  The film finds the toys back againand mistakenly delivered to a day-care center instead of to the attic where Andy wants them before he leaves for college.  Woody has to convince the other toys that they weren't abandoned and must find their way home.  Toy Story 3 is an awesome movie that is definitely the one to beat.

Our Prediction: Toy Story 3

Toy Story 3 is definitely the one to beat and so it should be!  The film was great fun for a new generation of kids and offered a bittersweet nostalgia for all use oldies who revisited our childhood through the film.

YOUR TURN!
