Thor The Dark World Stills: Asgard Gets Close-Up

A slew of stills has been released from Thor: The Dark World, and in them, we get a better feel for the world of Asgard and the alien villain Malekith. The crux of the sequel to Thor finds our hero re-teaming with his brother to face a common enemy. Empire UK published the stills and the first one we have to present finds Chris Hemsworth looking quite regal.

  • Thor: The Dark World Tom Hiddleston Chris Hemsworth

What has been teased in the Thor: The Dark World trailer is now more into focus, in terms of the landscape of Asgard -- as this film is much more Asgard-centered than Earth-centered.

  • Thor: The Dark World Villains
  • Thor: The Dark World Alien

Although as you can see from the first still below, Natalie Portman is still the big guy’s love interest and Kat Dennings is also back in a fresh still below.

  • Thor: The Dark World Kat Dennings

Also pictured (finally!) is Idris Elba, who is back from the first film and we're kind of partial to the below stand-alone still of our favorite villain, back from The Avengers, Tom Hiddleston's Loki!

Thor: The Dark World lands in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters, November 8.

Paramount has sent Movie Fanatic a fresh picture of the creative team of Transformers 4 doing their thing. The shot features director Michael Bay and star Mark Wahlberg atop quite the set piece!

Transformers 4 Set Picture Mark Wahlberg

This is the first time we have gotten a photo from Transformers 4 that didn't highlight a car (such as the Sonic RS or the new Bumblebee), truck (like the new Optimus Prime) or some other type of vehicle that will turn into a Transformer!

Look for Transformers 4 in theaters on June 27, 2014.

The Mortal Instruments City of Bones: Jared Harris Likes "The Idea of Hodge"

0
0

Jared Harris was struck by the world created by Cassandra Clare in her The Mortal Instruments books and that is largely why he said “yes” to the offer to play Hodge in the film version of the blockbuster book.

As teased in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones trailer, his character is a leader of a magical establishment called The Institute where he mentors young, gifted souls who live to fight demons and keep them at bay from the human world.

The man who recently killed it as Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows found his part in Mortal Instruments: City of Bones hit close to home. “This world was familiar to me in the sense that I went to a Catholic boys school. I felt I already lived The Institute. I’ve experience people like Hodge,” Harris said.

The character is a mentor to gifted youth who possess powers that aid them in their fight against demons who seek to take over the world. The battle has raged for millennia and with the arrival of Lily Collins’ Clary, the tide of this war may just be beginning to change.

He also manages to do much, with very little. “I like the idea of Hodge. I like the idea in a short amount of screen time you have the opportunity to make three very distinct impressions on the audience and flip the way they felt about the character.”

Weekend Movie Preview: August 23, 2013

0
0

This weekend has a little bit of everything when it comes to new movies at the nation's movie houses. A horror sub-genre gets reinvented in You're Next, the YA book Mortal Instruments: City of Bones leaps to the big screen and the Edgar Wright-Simon Pegg-Nick Frost trilogy of hilarity closes with The World's End.

The World's End: After brilliant turns making Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, filmmaker Wright and actors Frost and Pegg join forces for a third time to craft a wildly original comedy that fires on all cylinders. Pegg and Frost are old friends from a small town in rural England. They and three other buddies (including The Hobbit star Martin Freeman) reunite to make up for a pub crawl they could never finish as late teens. It doesn't take too long before they realize that there is something a little more than alcohol tolerance keeping them from getting to the final pub -- The World's End. It's killer robots! As our The World's End review hailed, it is one of the year's best films. Period.

You're Next: The home invasion sub-genre of the horror world has gotten a little stale of late. As reported in our You're Next review, filmmakers behind this thrill ride have outdone themselves in creativity, scares and a twist that not even the most hardened of horror fan can admit they saw coming!

The Mortal Instruments City of Bones: Lily Collins stars as a young woman who learns on her 18th birthday that she is not as human as she once thought. She is part of a race called Shadow Hunters whose sole purpose is keeping the human population safe from the world of demons who are ever seeking their demise. The film is based on the book series that has sold over 24 million copies by Cassandra Clare. As our The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones review stated, the core audience who adore the books will cherish the film. Everyone else might find it has too much exposition and take too long to find its action movie heart.

Scenic Route Exclusive: Dan Fogler Talks Josh Duhamel Going Dark

0

Dan Fogler and Josh Duhamel star in Scenic Route, a thriller that finds their characters on a cross country journey that is supposed to be fun. Only, when they get stuck in Death Valley, deep-seated issues come up between the two that may not only threaten their friendship, but push each to within inches of their lives. As teased in the Scenic Route trailer, Fogler and Duhamel are playing way against type.

Scenic Route Dan Fogler Josh Duhamel

Fogler, most recognized for his starring turn in Balls of Fury, welcomed the challenge to hark back to his “theatrical roots” for the role. And who doesn’t want to see Duhamel with a Mohawk acting crazy?

We spoke to Fogler recently for an exclusive interview that took us inside the rough shoot and even have a Def Leppard question for him about Balls of Fury.

Movie Fanatic: When I spoke with Josh Duhamel for Safe Haven, he could not stop talking about how excited he was to shuck his persona and play the role in Scenic Route. What was that front row seat like to see this guy play against type?

Dan Fogler: It was awesome. I approached it in the same way. I read the script and thought that both our parts were great parts for actors. I was curious if he was going to rise to the occasion. He and I were in the same boat in a lot of ways. He was being looked at as a pretty face and I was the guy who wore shimmery and short-shorts and played ping pong in Balls of Fury. From the moment I met him, I was taken with his passion for showing more of himself than ever before. I felt like I was in the same boat.

Movie Fanatic: What was it in this script that was so special for you as an actor, as you said?

Dan Fogler: It reminded me of doing a play, a crazy Mamet play where they pick each other apart and they end up trying to kill each other. It’s like the Coen brothers.

Movie Fanatic: It’s Mamet meets the Coen brothers!

Dan Fogler: Yeah! I thought if we could pull this off, it would be something special. The Death Valley thing scared the (expletive) out of me. It was facing my own fear. I’m a city boy. That was real.

Movie Fanatic: The title captures it. On one hand… it is scenic. But, on the other… it’s nothing but death and desolation.

Dan Fogler: I’m like a conspiracy nut, so I was thinking the ground was going to open up with an Area 51-type person coming out to get us [laughs]. I tried to always be positive. But there were times where it was sunny and we were filming and I’d think, “This isn’t so bad.” Literally 20 minutes later sandstorm, hail, whipping winds… it was like another planet. It was scary. I didn’t stray far from the herd when we were out there [laughs]. You’d hear coyotes coming closer and think, “Are those our coyotes or their coyotes?” [Laughs] You’d be at craft services and see a scorpion. Yeah, that was an amazing experience. We got in the dirt there.

Josh Duhamel Dan Fogler Scenic Route

Movie Fanatic: Was that kind of acting new for you?

Dan Fogler: I’d done that on stage. Even in a movie like Balls of Fury, I put my all into it. I come from that physical actor on stage background. You do plays and you’re asked to sing and dance and fight and throw yourself around. So, I’m used to that and I love that. I love that about Scenic Route in particular. There was a lot of physical things to do. I do my own stunts!

Movie Fanatic: It was a difficult shoot, no question. But is there a moment that stands out for you that is particularly rewarding?

Dan Fogler: I think about the first day. We had this rehearsal process that we felt good about it. Then, we started doing the first scene, the first take, and it’s like a 20-minute take. It’s like a play! A lot of the crew, they’re seeing it for the first time. We finished and they just started clapping like a play [laughs]. The Goetz brothers made us so prepared and we knew we had to get this 20-minute scene in one take and we had to deliver before a dust storm came through! After that, I think the crew was like, “We’re on board. Let’s do this!” We felt like we were pirates leaving our wives and families behind and we might not come back. Or, we might come back with gold. We found a bunch of gold!

Movie Fanatic: Lastly, you’re driving down the street and Rock of Ages comes on. It was famously used in Balls of Fury. You must have heard it a million times and become almost defined by that song. Do you change the channel?

Dan Fogler: I was a fan of that song before the movie. I don’t bust it out at karaoke. But if it’s on… hell yeah, I turn it up!

Drinking Buddies Review: Bizarro Rom-Com Charms

0
0

Drinking Buddies is the most unique of romantic comedies. Olivia Wilde and Jake Johnson are coworkers at a small Massachusetts brewery. They each are in relationships -- he with Anna Kendrick and she with Ron Livingston. Yet there is a palpable chemistry between the two that is unmistakable.

Drinking Buddies Jake Johnson Olivia Wilde

How Drinking Buddies sets itself apart from other rom-coms is that you are cheering for the two leads to get together, even though the viewer knows that that will involve one or two broken hearts. Whether or not they even get together is also at the heart of Drinking Buddies. Johnson’s Kate and Wilde’s Luke continually go out drinking after work (after having a few at work!) and by the end of the film you are asking whether they should be together or remain… Drinking Buddies.

As told to us in our Jake Johnson and Olivia Wilde exclusive interview, filmmaker Joe Swanberg put his actors to work with only a framework of a script. Much of what is seen onscreen is improvised and perhaps that is why it feels so raw and real. Also, the performances from his actors are beyond stellar and one could argue that they so knew these characters that when the helmer asked them to just “go with it,” the audience got a story that was much more powerful and organic than could be expected from any other formulaic rom-com.

The supporting players get an A+ for their performances as well. Kendrick (recently seen in Pitch Perfect) is astounding and what she does with so little proves that this little actress is anything but small. In fact, she wields a hammer of talent that would rival that one carried by that Thor guy. And Livingston does something incredible. He plays with Wilde’s heart and all the while, the audience still wants the couple to work out their differences and stay together.

Drinking Buddies Olivia Wilde Jake Johnson

Of course, all of this is while we are cheering for Johnson and Wilde to finally respond to their electric chemistry and become a couple already!

What else sets Drinking Buddies apart from other rom-coms is that it is completely unpredictable, as one can gather even from the Drinking Buddies trailer. The ending could never be foreseen, and for that matter the ebb and flow of the story is nothing that would be predicted, expected or even thought of by its audience.

And who should steal the film with his performance unlike any we’ve ever seen from him? Why… it’s Jason Sudeikis! He’s only in Drinking Buddies for mere moments, but his presence is unforgettable.

Overall, our Drinking Buddies review can recommend the picture. Couples seeking a feel-good romance might want to look elsewhere. But, for people who can be honest with themselves about the unpredictability of life itself and the roads we take with people that come and go out of our world… it is a solid breath of fresh air.

Dark Tourist Exclusive: Melanie Griffith & Michael Cudlitz Find Romance Amongst Terror

0
0

Dark Tourist stars Melanie Griffith and Michael Cudlitz have quite a bond, and it’s easy to tell that in our exclusive video interview. We met the two at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills -- a site that could not be further from the dark world of Dark Tourist. As seen in the Dark Tourist trailer, Cudlitz is the titular person… someone who uses their vacation to visit the sites of gruesome murders.

Along the way, he meets Griffith’s waitress, herself also a wounded soul. They bond over their shared pain, but will their pasts keep them from finding any kind of hopeful future?

After his turn on the acclaimed Southland and Griffith feeling that the “great” roles are few and far between, each credit Frank John Hughes’ terse script with getting them back on the silver screen. And then, there’s director Suri Krishnamma.

“The wonderful thing about the entire film is that everyone who got involved with the production was on the same page,” Cudlitz said. “I prefer a director who is basically the right director because they know how to step back and let the film happen. [Suri] was in our heads. He knew what was going on, top to bottom.”

“Suri is so extremely intelligent,” Griffith added. “He has such a cool way of telling a seriously (expletive) up story!”

The Monuments Poster: George Clooney Saves History

Hot on the heels of The Monuments Men trailer arrives a new poster for the based-on-a-true-story film that is sure to be an Oscar contender.

The film is directed by George Clooney and also stars the superstar as the leader of a real life military unit that was charged with ensuring the safety of priceless cultural artifacts as the Nazis were trying to destroy everything in their path.

The Monuments Men also stars his Ocean’s Eleven cast mate Matt Damon, as well as Bill Murray and John Goodman.

Watch All Stan Lee Cameos: The True Superhero!

Stan Lee created so much of the characters in the Marvel world -- it always seemed like a no brainer for him to appear in each film in some capacity. The creative cameo has always been used sparingly, and we at Movie Fanatic were always fans of how the great Alfred Hitchcock managed to put himself in his movies.

We got our hands on a clip of Lee doing every one of his cameos in one single video and it is so much fun to witness.

Although he is not scheduled to appear in X-Men: Days of Future Past, he did appear in two X-Men movies, as well as Thor, Captain America, The Avengers, all three Iron Man movies, Daredevil, both Hulk movies as well as the two Fantastic Four films. Lee was in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man and will be in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. And yes, he made an appearance in all of the Sam Raimi trilogy Spider-Man movies.

Where would any of these films be without him? To put it bluntly, our superhero world would be quite a bit empty!

The Family Photo: Robert De Niro is Back in the Mob

Movie Fanatic could not be more thrilled that director Luc Besson is back behind the camera, as teased in The Family trailer. We’ve got a new still from the crime comedy that stars Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer as a couple who have to drag their kids all around Europe because dad is in the witness protection program.

See, De Niro’s back in the mob and his character kind of snitched on his cohorts. So, Tommy Lee Jones’ Justice Department official has placed them in Europe. Relativity Media has released a fresh still of De Niro and Pfeiffer, along with Diana Agron (Glee) and John D’Leo... who play their kids.

The Family Robert De Niro Michelle Pfeiffer

The comedy aspect of The Family arrives as the entire family keeps doing things to get them in trouble and Jones has to sweep in and move them again. Pfeiffer, Agron and D'Leo's characters are no angels either!

Something happened in the South of France as our movie begins and De Niro and his clan have to move to a sleepy hamlet in Normandy. There, things do not get much better for our itching to be back in Brooklyn gang.

Besson helmed one of our favorite films, The Fifth Element, and has turned more to producing of late (Taken, Transporter series, Columbiana). To see him wield his camera in a mob comedy was a treat -- stay tuned for our review when the film premieres September 13.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Adds Stef Dawson as Annie Cresta

As fans of The Hunger Games series know, in the third book in Suzanne Collins’ blockbuster series, Finnick's (Sam Claflin) true love is revealed. Lionsgate announced that it has cast Australian actress Stef Dawson in the part of Annie Cresta, who will not appear in Catching Fire, but makes her debut in Mockingjay Part 1. Much like Twilight and Harry Potter before, The Hunger Games’ final chapter will be broken into two films.

Dawson is making her big time Hollywood debut in Mockingjay, which will be directed by Catching Fire helmer Francis Lawrence.

It is hard to believe that just as we’re getting ready for Catching Fire to hit theaters in November, we’re already talking about the series’ closing chapters which hit November 21, 2014 and November 20, 2015!

Thor The Dark World Character Posters: Laying the Hammer Down!

We’re going Thor: The Dark World crazy here! Fresh off the debut of ten Thor: The Dark World images last week, Marvel Studios has given Movie Fanatic two fresh character posters featuring our favorite dysfunctional superhero world brothers -- Thor and Loki.

Starting with the hero, the fresh new poster features Chris Hemsworth laying down the hammer in a vibrant, popping off the page character poster.

Then, is it us or is the look on Loki’s (Tom Hiddleston) face just as fitting as can be on his character poster? He's a little devil, isn't he?

Thor The Dark World Character Poster: Loki

As seen in the Thor: The Dark World trailer, the film continues the adventures of the “Mighty Avenger” which began with Thor and continued in The Avengers.

Look for Thor: The Dark World in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D on November. 8.

Gravity TV Spot: It’s Beautiful

0
0

The TV spot for Gravity that debuted during yesterday’s MTV VMAs has arrived online and if you’re like us, it’ll stop your heart for a moment. George Clooney and Sandra Bullock are astronauts out on a space walk and Clooney sums it up best in the spot’s opening lines when he says, “It’s beautiful, don’t you think.”

What begins as placid appreciation of the Earth’s beauty… ends in horror.

In the midst of their space walk, debris smashes into their ship leaving them stranded. What on Earth will they do?

Alfonso Curan directed, and with what he showed in the full Gravity trailer, the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban director has given us another thrill ride.

Gravity feels like Cast Away in space, but even worse. At least Tom Hanks had things around him to help him survive. What will Bullock and Clooney do, simply floating in space? If two actors can command our attention over two hours while free-falling in space… it’s Clooney and Bullock.

Gravity takes hold of audiences October 4.

Ben Affleck Is Batman: 5 Reasons It May Work

0
0

When Warner Bros. announced that Ben Affleck is Batman in the sequel to Man of Steel, it appeared as if the world had split into two camps. One thought the casting was a stroke of genius. The second… well, it was if the world had come to an end. We at Movie Fanatic have come to appreciate the talents of Affleck of late and are willing to let the film, Batman vs. Superman, speak for itself.

But, until then… we present five reasons why the casting of Ben Affleck as Batman might just work.

Superman vs. Batman Ben Affleck Poster

1. Past Heroes Have Long Lists of Haters Turned Admirers
People practically revolted when the first modern era movie Batman was named. Michael Keaton was best known as Mr. Mom and Beetlejuice when Tim Burton cast him, and ardent fans were livid. Turned out, people kind of liked the man’s performance as the Dark Knight.

Also, Robert Downey Jr. wasn’t exactly liked as a choice to play Iron Man. Can you imagine Iron Man without Downey now? Heck, even Chris Evans was not necessarily a popular choice to play Captain America when he was cast, and for that matter, neither was Heath Ledger when it was revealed he would follow in Jack Nicholson’s huge shoes as the Joker.

Let’s think how that worked out… oh yeah, he won an Oscar.

2. He’s Not the Gigli Actor Anymore
As an actor, Affleck has grown immensely. Sure, he veered off the thespian path to try to be a blockbuster movie star with less than stellar turns in famous bombs such as Gigli. And frankly, it’s not like he was all that fabulous in Pearl Harbor or Armageddon. But, can you imagine anyone else playing the lead character in Argo? And his turn (ironically as Superman) as George Reeves in Hollywoodland was astounding.

Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt that he will take this part seriously, knowing how much is riding on it.

3. Age Difference with Henry Cavill
In Batman vs. Superman, the Caped Crusader is supposed to be an “older and wiser” superhero, according to director Zack Snyder. Affleck fits that bill -- he is about 11 years the senior of the man playing the Man of Steel. Tick that box!

4. Playing the Batman/Bruce Wayne Dichotomy
Affleck can easily pull off the billionaire playboy part of the Bruce Wayne-Batman equation. And if you think about it, Affleck will easily fill out the suit and, we bet, take to action scenes even better than Bale did. We love Bale as Batman and will miss him dearly -- particularly in The Dark Knight Rises -- but let’s be honest, he wasn’t the best action hero on the block. Bale’s fight scenes felt a bit laborious, and Affleck, we have a gut feeling, will kick some serious butt.

5. He’s an American!
Before Affleck’s casting, three of America’s greatest and most popular superheroes were played by non-Americans. Andrew Garfield is Spider-Man, Christian Bale was Batman and Henry Cavill is Superman. It’s about time an American was cast to play one of the big three superheroes that were created in America.

I’m not being ethnocentric here, it’s just as so many American jobs are shipped overseas nowadays… it’s kind of nice that one has come back!

Now, if we can just decide who should play Lex Luthor.

Given our arguments that Affleck could be a good Batman in the Man of Steel sequel Batman vs. Superman... cast your vote.

Is Ben Affleck a good choice to play Batman?

One Direction This is Us Clip: Harry Styles Shirtless, Screams Ensue

0
0

One Direction has taken over the music world. Fresh off their being booed at the VMAs after winning the Song of the Summer last night, Movie Fanatic scored a clip from their upcoming concert movie One Direction: This is Us.

The clip is a scene in the movie where the guys are in a “dance” rehearsal for an upcoming show. One thing we gleaned from the film (our review comes on the film’s release day, August 30) is that the guys were adamant about several things when the “boy” band was formed.

One, they hate dancing and will only put up with minimal “movement” lessons from their choreographer… as we see in the clip above. Two, they will never be seen wearing the same outfits. Now, you’ll see in the film that at one point they do wear similar outfits, but it was to play to Dutch pride when they all wore orange.

Don’t miss our exclusive interview with the filmmaker behind what was teased in the One Direction: This is Us trailer, Morgan Spurlock, when we premiere it tomorrow. His insight into the band and what makes them tick as he followed them all over the world making this movie is uncanny.

Will Matt Damon Be Bourne Again?

0
0

The Bourne franchise shows no signs of slowing. With the announcement that a fifth Bourne movie is coming with Jeremy Renner returning, news has arisen that Matt Damon is considering returning to the titular role.

Matt Damon is Jason Bourne

Damon has said in the past that he will not reprise his role as Jason Bourne unless his good buddy, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass, is brought back to the fold. Word is that Universal Pictures has contacted both Damon and Greengrass about producing a new film with the two of them that would exist within the world that is expanding with Renner.

When we attended The Bourne Legacy press day last year, producer Frank Marshall said something to us that, at the time, led us to believe that they were focusing on the Renner character and that Jason Bourne was not a factor. But, upon hearing the news that Greengrass and Damon have been approached about continuing their “legacy” of Bourne… the last half of his quote makes a whole lot of sense.

"We're gonna follow Jeremy's character," Marshall said.

And here’s the operative quote when it comes to thinking whether Damon’s Jason Bourne will return. “Everything else is wide open. That's the great thing about this now. The table is set to go any direction we want to.”

So, in our humble opinion… it appears that Renner will do his follow-up to The Bourne Legacy, Damon will return for a new Jason Bourne movie and then a crossover featuring the two will appear next.

Well, one can dream.

Sherlock Holmes Exclusive: Jared Harris Says Moriarty “Survived!”

When we caught up with Mortal Instruments: City of Bones star Jared Harris, we had to ask him something that’s been bugging us since the closing moments of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows: Did Moriarty meet his demise at the end when he fell off of that sky-high waterfall?

Since the villain is the most famous foil for Sherlock Holmes in all of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s books, perhaps it was wishful thinking that he did not perish. In our Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows review, Movie Fanatic stated that we cannot believe Holmes fans' good fortune that an actor as awesome as Harris was cast to play the baddie!

Well, once we got alone with the UK actor, Movie Fanatic had to know! To our great joy, we got the answer we wanted in the below exclusive video interview. “I survived,” Harris joyfully said. “If Sherlock survived… I survived!”

Harris also reported to Movie Fanatic that he has had discussions with Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie as to his fate… so you heard it here! Moriarty should be back.

Star Wars Episode VII: Production Start Date Announced!

The wait is over! Sure, hearing the news that Star Wars Episode VII is coming at audiences was a delight. But, until J.J. Abrams starts shooting the thing, it does not quite seem real. Now, word out of Lucasfilm (and its parent Disney) is that Abrams will begin his journey into the Star Wars world on January 21, 2014.

Star Wars Return of the Jedi Logo

Although we’re sure they would love to have the film ready for summer 2015, it now looks that it is more likely that fans will finally see a new Star Wars film during the holiday movie season of 2015.

Beyond the potential return of Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill, no casting has been reported. Rumors have circulated that Abrams is looking at Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron and there is still a possibility that Jonathan Rhys Meyers is in talks to star in Star Wars: Episode VII as well.

And we do know one thing: Original film composer John Williams is set to score Star Wars Episode VII

Pain and Gain is muscling its way onto DVD and Blu-Ray August 27 and Movie Fanatic is proud to present an exclusive giveaway. One lucky winner will receive a copy of the DVD/Blu-Ray Combo Pack signed by its star, Mark Wahlberg!

Also in that grand prize winner prize pack will be a bullet blender (for mixing all those pumping iron protein shakes) and a Pain and Gain duffel bag (for carrying all that gym gear)!

Pain and Gain DVD

As teased in the Pain and Gain trailer, the incredible true story follows Wahlberg’s Daniel Lugo, a personal trainer who wants to achieve the American dream through any means possible.

X-Files: Third Movie on the Way?

0
0

X-Files recently celebrated its twentieth anniversary of first airing at Comic-Con, and since that first episode aired, we have had two incredibly different movies from the Chris Carter-created franchise.

The last one, X-Files: I Want to Believe, hit theaters in 2008 and in a recent interview with Empire UK, Carter admits he’s ready for a third. And he wants The World’s End star Simon Pegg to play a large part in it.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson in The X-Files

"I think all of us are interested in putting the band back together. I have an idea for a third movie in my head,” Carter said.

However, there is an incredibly important timeframe within the mythology that Carter set up with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson that has come and gone. “The colonization date has passed and that is something we wouldn't ignore. For the second movie, we only had the budget for a standalone story, but we want to go back to the mythology."

His Agent Scully (Anderson) shared screen time with Pegg and has been talking him up to Carter in hopes he could enter the X-Files universe.

“Gillian worked with Simon Pegg on a movie and told me that he was a big fan. We actually thought about putting him in the second movie, but there was no part for him,” Carter admitted. “I certainly would think about him if we were to go forward in any way."

Let us know in our poll below…

Do you want another X-Files movie?
