The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Photo: Dane DeHaan is Harry Osborn

Fresh off of Sony’s release of that compelling The Amazing Spider-Man 2 poster earlier this week, we’ve got a fresh look at Dane DeHaan and his screen alter ego, Harry Osborn. There’s been quite a bit of buzz about DeHaan and his role in the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man. Judging by that The Amazing Spider-Man Triptych poster, it’s pretty clear he’s some version of The Green Goblin.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 Dane DeHaan

He even makes an appearance in the iconic Green Goblin suit (or a version of it!) in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 international trailer.

The photo arrives courtesy of a site that is culling all those of you out there who are utterly fanatical about the webbed wonder, check it out at amazingspiderfans.com.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 lands in theaters May 2, 2014.

Walking with Dinosaurs 3D Review: Jurassic Journey for Kids

Walking with Dinosaurs has come a long way from its humble beginnings as a BBC show that saw its mission as putting viewers literally on the ground that our ancient Earth dwellers inhabited. It became a sensation with millions and millions of viewers. Then, it morphed into a live action stage show that crossed the globe, as the technology grew to the point where the realism was jaw-dropping. And now that 3D and filmmaking technology has also grown, and we have Walking with Dinosaurs 3D.

Walking with Dinosaurs 3D Still

The story begins with live action and even a big time movie star in Karl Urban (Star Trek Into Darkness), who is an uncle to a teenage boy and a young girl who were sent to spend time with him in Alaska. He’s a paleontologist and takes his young charges out on a dig. The girl is jazzed. The boy would rather wait by the car and play with his Smartphone. Then… a crow lands and the voice of John Leguizamo starts telling him about the story behind the bone that his uncle had tried to impress him with earlier.

Our story miraculously goes back 70 million years and now the earth’s landscape is filled with dinosaurs of all kinds. Leguizamo’s crow has morphed into a prehistoric bird who we gather will be our narrator. He tells us that this is Patchi’s (Justin Long) story and it will be a legendary tale of courage. See, Patchi is the runt of his herd, which gets him absolutely no respect, even though his father is the alpha.

Then, director Barry Cook and Neil Nightingale switch off the narrating duties between Leguizamo and Long -- which kind of feels awkward, but the youngest audience members will adore hearing both sides of this story.

Walking with Dinosaurs 3D is not necessarily about telling a riveting story that compels all audiences. It is a fun tale, which contains a slew of positive messages for the youngest viewers that parents can be proud they have exposed their children to. Plus, dinosaurs are always cool and it is astounding to “Walk with Dinosaurs.” The viewer feels they are right along for the ride, and as the tension mounts as threats arrive in various forms, you truly feel it. And when the emotion runs high, that is also felt throughout.

Walking with the Dinosaurs Photo

The film is highly educational as it stops the story when a new dinosaur breed is introduced and we hear its name, its traits and therefore its place within our story.

But, overall our Walking with Dinosaurs 3D review has to say that it is also one gorgeous film to watch. The 3D camera work is top notch, and that is hardly a surprise given that it is from Cameron Pace Group, a brainchild of James Cameron’s whose credits of course include Avatar. During this holiday weekend, when it seems as if most of the film fare is geared towards adults, Walking with Dinosaurs 3D fits the bill perfectly for families.

Ride Along Trailer: Kevin Hart Kisses Up to Ice Cube

The full-length Ride Along trailer, starring Ice Cube and Kevin Hart, has arrived, and if the casting is not perfect, I don’t know what is. Hart is a security guard with dreams of becoming a big time cop and Ice Cube is that big time cop.

They’re connected because Hart is dating Cube’s sister and has every intention to marry her, only the tough cop won’t let him unless he can prove he’s worthy. What better way than to take him on a Ride Along patrolling the city’s worst streets?

Ride Along also stars John Leguizamo (Walking with Dinosaurs 3D) and Laurence Fishburne and hits theaters January 17, 2014.

Sony has released five new stills from their upcoming reboot to the RoboCop franchise, starring Joel Kinnaman in the title role. The first photo is pretty awesome, given that it features the killer new ride for our hero.

RoboCop Motorcyle Photo

As teased in the RoboCop trailer, the year is 2028 and crime has gotten the best of America. OmniCorp believes they have an answer… a human placed inside a robot with skills that no human cop can touch. But, who will be their first test subject? Kinnman’s Detroit cop almost dies in an explosion and his wife (Abbie Cornish) gives them permission to use him. We know how that’s going to work out!

Check out the next few photos of Cornish greeting her husband as he “comes home.” Then, the following stills showcase the outstanding cast, including Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton and Jackie Earle Haley.

Grudge Match Synopsis:

Warner Bros. Pictures’ Grudge Match stars award-winning movie legends Oscar winner Robert De Niro (Raging Bull, Silver Linings Playbook) and Oscar nominee Sylvester Stallone (the Rocky films, The Expendables) as old boxing rivals who come out of retirement for one final match. Peter Segal (Get Smart) directs the comedy.

In Grudge Match, De Niro and Stallone play Billy The Kid McDonnen and Henry Razor Sharp, two local Pittsburgh fighters whose fierce rivalry put them in the national spotlight. Each had scored a victory against the other during their heyday, but in 1983, on the eve of their decisive third match, Razor suddenly announced his retirement, refusing to explain why but effectively delivering a knock-out punch to both their careers. Thirty years later, boxing promoter Dante Slate Jr., seeing big dollar signs, makes them an offer they can’t refuse: to re-enter the ring and settle the score once and for all.

But they may not have to wait that long: on their first encounter in decades, their long-festering feud erupts into an unintentionally hilarious melee that instantly goes viral. The sudden social media frenzy transforms their local grudge match into a must-see HBO event. Now, if they can just survive the training, they may actually live to fight again.

Robert De Niro Sylvester Stallone Grudge Match

The film also stars Kevin Hart (Think Like a Man) as Dante Slate Jr.; Oscar winner Alan Arkin as Razor’s former trainer, Louis Lightning Conlon, who gets to put Razor through his paces again; and Oscar winner Kim Basinger (L.A. Confidential) as Sally Rose, who was once the love of Razor’s life.

Rounding out the cast are Jon Bernthal (upcoming The Wolf of Wall Street, TV’s The Walking Dead) as BJ, who becomes The Kid’s instinctive but untested trainer; and young film newcomer Camden Gray (Californication).

Segal is directing from a screenplay by Tim Kelleher and Rodney Rothman, story by Tim Kelleher. The film is being produced by Bill Gerber (Gran Torino), Mark Steven Johnson (Grumpy Old Men, Grumpier Old Men), Michael Ewing (Get Smart), Segal, and Ravi Mehta (The Lucky One). Jane Rosenthal and Kevin King-Templeton are serving as executive producers.

Collaborating with Segal behind the scenes are: Academy Award-winning cinematographer Dean Semler (Dances With Wolves, Apocalypto); production designer Wynn Thomas (Cinderella Man); costume designer Mary Vogt (Men in Black 3); and editor William Kerr (Bridesmaids). Robert Sale, who was the technical advisor on Rocky Balboa, is serving as the film’s boxing consultant. The music is by Trevor Rabin.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Bill Gerber Production, a Callahan Filmworks Production, a Peter Segal film, Grudge Match. The film opens December 25, 2013 and will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

The film has been rated PG-13 by the MPAA for sports action violence, sexual content and language.

Fresh off the release of that intriguing Transcendence teaser trailer narrated by Johnny Depp, we have one today that is narrated by the king of movie narration, his Transcendence co-star, Morgan Freeman.

Freeman asks what if what took us millennia to learn as humans, could be learned in a matter of moments? What would happen if artificial intelligence became aware? Is it a bright new day or the end of the world as we know it?

Transcendence answers those questions and we’re sure raises some more when the film lands April 18, 2014.

Ellen DeGeneres certainly knows what makes her dance. And usually if it makes her dance, it’ll make us dance. In what is the first trailer for DeGeneres' role as Oscar host, she lip synchs to Fitz & the Tantrums' The Walker as she and an ever-growing cadre of tuxedoed men “walk” towards the camera in an almost flash mob-style dance. Think Fitz's sales will go through the roof now?

The Oscar nominations are merely weeks away. Be sure to check out our weekly Oscar Watch column to stay appraised on our predictions and thoughts as awards season heats up with the turning of the calendar from 2013 to 2014.

In their first big screen effort, they introduce the world to the WABAC machine, a time machine that is accidentally used in the opening moments of the film by a friend of Sherman to potentially disastrous results. As seen in the Mr. Peabody and Sherman trailer, they head into their machine and race… into history!

Weekend Movie Preview: December 20, 2014

The weekend movie preview is starting to get in the holiday spirit. And Hollywood must be too because we've got four new movies arriving this week, with six due on Christmas Day (more to come on that next week!).

The highlight has to be the long-awaited sequel to Anchorman! Will Ferrell is back as Ron Burgundy in Anchorman 2 and he's bringing his entire Action News Team with him. A few Oscar contenders also arrive with Joaquin Phoenix in Her, and David O. Russell and his all-star cast doing the American Hustle. And the kiddies aren't left out of the picture as Fox's Walking With Dinosaurs 3D promises a prehistoric adventure for the entire family.

Anchorman 2 The Legend Continues: Burgundy and the Action News Team (Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner) are hired to help launch a 24-hour cable news channel. Director Adam McKay co-wrote the film with Ferrell, and the two bring Burgundy back in triumphant form, as per our Anchorman 2 review. The humor is more fast and furious than the original, and the commentary on the 24-hour news cycle and how it may have ruined us... is spot-on. And yes, there will be a thousand new quotes to enlighten us for the next decade until we get Anchorman 3!

American Hustle: O'Russell brings together the stars of his two last films, The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook, in the based-on-a-true-story tale of the Abscam scandal of the 1970s. The look and feel of the film is astounding, and the soundtrack could not be better. This is truly an actor's movie to shine as stars Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Renner score on numerous levels. We may have the Oscar Best Picture here with this instant classic, our American Hustle review finds.

Walking with Dinosaurs: The wildly popular BBC series and live stage show makes the three-dimensional leap to the silver screen in a film that is simultaneously enlightening, educational and entertaining. The story follows the runt of a dinosaur herd and his rise to alpha. It should inspire the youngest of audiences and be a joy for adults as well. For more, check out our Walking with Dinosaurs 3D review

Her: Phoenix astounds in the role of a man who lives in the not-so-distant future who is going through a divorce and feeling a little helpless when it comes to his romantic prospects. Director Spike Jonze also wrote the story and it is about as good as it gets when it comes to reinventing the romance genre of Hollywood. Phoenix's character falls in love with the voice behind his home operating system (OS) -- voiced impeccably by Scarlett Johansson. As our Her review stated, this is an astounding piece of work that will not be easily forgotten as the years turn into decades.

And within days, we get a slew more movies as December 25 brings Grudge Match47 RoninThe Wolf of Wall StreetBelieve, The Invisible Woman and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Fresh off the release of the Lena Headey 300: Rise of an Empire poster and the Eva Green character poster, today we’ve got the most crazy looking character poster yet to arrive: Rodrigo Santoro’s Xerxes, who is returning as the character from the original 300.

300 Rise of an Empire Xerxes Poster

Xerxes is the leader of the Persian forces and the mortal-turned-god lives to ruin his enemies’ day. And by the looks of that 300: Rise of an Empire trailer, he’s doing a pretty good job of it.

Noam Murro steps into the director’s chair for Zack Snyder (who was busy with Man of Steel), and from the looks of things so far, 300: Rise of an Empire still has that trademark visual flair that made audiences fall in love with the original.

After the phenomenal success of Ice Age: Continental Drift, the fourth film in the series, is it a surprise that we’re getting a fifth Ice Age? Blue Sky Studios (they have Rio 2 coming soon) and 20th Century Fox announced today that they have put Ice Age 5 on the release schedule for July 15, 2016.

Scrat in Ice Age: Continental Drift

That means Ray Romano, Denis Leary and the gang will be back for another adventure that has us wondering if that little guy Scrat will ever get his acorn. We’re guessing no, that would kill the fun.

The first Ice Age arrived in 2002, and since then, the series has banked over $2.8 million.

Saving Mr. Banks Exclusive: John Lee Hancock on Making a Movie About a Movie

John Lee Hancock, director of Saving Mr. Banks, had the unique challenge of creating the Disney film about what it took to make Mary Poppins the classic that it would become. We caught up with Hancock for an exclusive video interview where the director takes us inside how years of making Hollywood movies helped him craft one that shined its spotlight firmly behind the scenes.

“It’s daunting. Thankfully this wasn’t about the production of a movie. It’s a movie about the creative process, and as someone who has worked in Hollywood for a long time, there’s a lot that I recognized about that process,” Hancock said.

Hancock has had the most varied of careers, including his most recent work on the Oscar-winning The Blind Side. And like he had with Sandra Bullock on that movie, he has a partner in creativity with Saving Mr. Banks star Tom Hanks. “He’s a great partner. He’s deferential to your wishes when he puts the actor hat on, even though he’s a mogul in his own right,” Hancock said. “He’s fantastic.”

After truly being teased by the first Transcendence teaser trailer narrated by star Johnny Depp, and then the second Transcendence teaser trailer -- narrated by Morgan Freeman -- we finally have the full-length trailer for the sci-fi film that has one of 2014’s more intriguing plots.

Depp is Dr. Will Caster, a scientist leading the charge when it comes to the progress of artificial intelligence. Only thing is he gets a little too close to his research after a terrorist group attacks his lab. The group considers what he is doing goes against what is natural in the world. Check out how far Depp will go for his research in the above trailer!

Transcendence also stars Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara, Cillian Murphy and Paul Bettany.

Marvel Studios has confirmed what we kind of already knew… that Vin Diesel is the voice of Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy. In fact, director James Gunn has been recording Diesel in the studio and posted a photo of the superstar posing next to his screen likeness.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vin Diesel Groot

Marvel released a press release, formally announcing the casting. “Vin Diesel is Groot! The star of the Fast and the Furious and Riddick franchises will lend his voice to Groot in Marvel's live-action Guardians of the Galaxy, rounding out the team that includes Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Drax (Dave Bautista),” the statement read.

“Diesel’s received great acclaim for his voice work in the celebrated animated film The Iron Giant.”

Along with the above photo, Gunn also posted the following about his session with Diesel. Clearly, the director treasured his pre-holiday moments with the action hero.

“Yep, it is completely official. AND he’s amazing,” Gunn said. “I never knew someone who could say I AM GROOT so many different ways and with such feeling (and that sounds like I’m kidding but I’m not!”

Guardians of the Galaxy storms its way into theaters August 1, 2014.

From the people who brought us Invisible and Miracle comes another incredible true sports story starring Jon Hamm (The Town) as a sports agent who heads to India in search of the next great baseball pitcher. The trailer for Million Dollar Arm has landed, as well as the poster, and it also features Oscar winner Alan Arkin, Bill Paxton and Lake Bell.

Million Dollar Arm is based on the true story of JB Bernstein (Hamm), who is on the verge of being obsolete as a sports agent as the young upstarts pass him by. After watching cricket from India on TV one late night, he gets a crazy idea. He heads to the country with a perceived washed-up scout (Arkin) and launches a televised national search for what he calls the “Million Dollar Arm.”

Over 40,000 potential baseball pitchers, former cricket athletes, show up… and Bernstein hopes to bring two of them back to the States to study with a legendary pitching coach (Paxton) in an effort to make them the game’s next big thing.

Top 10 Movies of 2013: Fighting Gravity

$
0
0

The year in movies that was 2013 was among the most astounding in recent memory. We do not envy the members of the Academy when they have to vote on choosing Best Picture. In my decade-plus of compiling these lists, I have never had so many “Honorable Mentions” as is seen in this year’s Top 10 Movies of 2013 list.

This could easily be the year that Oscar uses all ten of those spots to nominate its Best Picture! So without further ado… here is Movie Fanatic’s Top 10 Movies of 2013!

10. Before Midnight
Before Midnight is Richard Linklater, Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy’s ode to relationships, long after their honeymoon phase. It is a riveting piece of work and it is not compelling because it keeps you on the edge of your seat. It astounds in its ability to use dialogue as no other film this year has.

Julie Delpy Ethan Hawke Before Midnight

Hawke and Delpy portray the characters we first met 18 years ago, and this time out, they’re married with twin girls and things are not always roses and wine. The way the above trio, who wrote the film together, compose their prose is a gift to moviegoers. Here’s hoping that we get to revisit Hawke and Delpy’s couple in another nine years because spending two hours with them is all the love story we need in any given cinematic year.

9. Nebraska
Alexander Payne directs a black and white film with a lead actor who hasn’t headlined a film in decades in Bruce Dern and winds up with a powerhouse of a movie about growing old and the complicated nexus that is the modern American family. Will Forte makes the leap from comedy to drama with aplomb, while June Squibb steals every scene in Nebraska she’s in as the ornery wife of Dern’s patriarch.

Nebraska is told with subtlety that lets the actors breathe while giving the audience one of the more treasured looks at what it means to be family that we’ve seen in some time. As we stated in our Nebraska review, although the film is in black and white, we would be hard pressed to find a story with more color in 2013.

8. Inside Llewyn Davis
The Coen brothers are considered one of the more powerful filmmaking tandems in modern movie history, and with Inside Llewyn Davis, they have turned down the volume with a story of a folk musician (Oscar Isaac) in 1960s Greenwich Village. He has all the talent to be a star, but continually gets in the way of his own success potential.

Oscar Isaac in Inside Llewyn Davis

The soundtrack of original songs by T. Bone Burnett is a surefire Oscar nominee and the film shows why the brothers Coen are one of the best, while simultaneously just getting going on their greatness.

7. Fruitvale Station
It is a crowded year for those who seek to be an Oscar nominee for Best Actor in 2013, but might we suggest voters don’t forget the heartbreaking turn that arrived over the summer from Michael B. Jordan in the haunting true story that is Fruitvale Station. Jordan stars as a young Oakland man who was gunned down on New Year’s Eve by a Transit Authority Police Officer. On a day when most are making empty resolutions, audiences get the feeling that Jordan’s Oscar Grant begins his New Year’s Eve by trying to live them -- little does he know that that December 31 would be his last day on Earth.

Octavia Spencer stars as his mother and could easily be on her way to another Best Supporting Actress nomination (after winning for The Help). The entire Fruitvale Station experience is one that simultaneously holds a mirror to our society, while still giving us hope that even the most hardened can change in a moment… even if it is among their last.

6. Spring Breakers
Spring Break forever! So claims James Franco’s Alien, a wanna-be rapper and drug dealer in Florida who “saves” four young women on spring break that launches the quintet into an orgy of violence, drugs and mayhem. His -- what will be iconic -- quote embodies the feeling audiences get after witnessing this powerful film that stars Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine.

Vanessa Hudgens James Franco Spring Breakers

Director Harmony Korine has painted a picture with Spring Breakers that firmly puts a target on the youth of today and their entitlement mentality and how it can result in the most awful of ends.

5. American Hustle
David O. Russell follows up his Oscar-winning Silver Linings Playbook with the true story of the little known Abscam scandal of the 1970s. The all-star cast of American Hustle, featuring Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Renner all turn in Academy Award- worthy performances in a story that is more tragic than anything else. Caught in a sting by Cooper for fake loans, Adams and Bale are forced to set up a New Jersey mayor (Renner) who is simply trying to get his state back to work.

Russell achieves an epic feel with outrageous 1970s style and music score that goes to 11, and in the process captures a slice of American life that simultaneously pays tribute to Martin Scorsese films while further enhancing the ever-building legacy of a great American filmmaker who is simply beginning his run of greatness.

4. Her
Joaquin Phoenix is one of those actors who has never been listed as one of our favorites. Yet, after watching him work his magic, one cannot help but think that he is one of the most talented men working in film. Proof of that arrives with Spike Jonze’s revolutionary love story Her. Phoenix’s Theodore is living in a not-too-distant future in Los Angeles, and after dealing with the demise of his marriage to Rooney Mara, gets a technological marvel that is an operating system that promises it will revolutionize his life.

In the process, the OS (voiced by Scarlett Johansson) and him develop feelings for one another and launch a love affair that strangely feels as authentic as any classic romance Hollywood has produced.

3. 12 Years a Slave
Sure, 12 Years a Slave is difficult to watch. But, it is one of those films that must be seen. Chiwetel Ejiofor stars as a free man living in New York state who is abducted and forcibly taken to the South and put into a series of plantations where he spends the titular time period working as a slave. It is harrowing witnessing what happens to him. Steve McQueen’s film is a chronicle of the blight on American history that is slavery, and the filmmaker puts us front and center into its evils.

12 Years a Slave Star Chiwetel Ejiofor

But, the film is not without hope, and through the performance of Ejiofor, we get an uncanny portrait of the strength of the human spirit.

2. The Wolf of Wall Street
No movie in 2013 celebrated debauchery quite like The Wolf of Wall Street -- although, that is hardly what makes the Martin Scorsese film great. Leonardo DiCaprio gives the performance of his career (and that is saying something) as the real life Wall Street tycoon Jordan Belfort, a man who became unbelievably wealthy in the late 1980s and early 1990s selling stocks that were overvalued to say the least. Yes, it was illegal, and yes, it took years for the government to build a case against him. But, in the process, he and his trader cronies banked hundreds of millions of dollars in a thrill ride for the ages.

The Wolf of Wall Street is pure Scorsese with its pulsating pace and rock music that seems to accompany every single emotion emitted.

Jonah Hill deserves some serious Oscar consideration in a supporting role that features him unlike we’ve ever seen before. But, the true star here is DiCaprio, who manages to act like a hurricane for exactly three hours and has us never once feeling like it. In fact, and this is a testament to Scorsese and DiCaprio, when the credits rolled… we wanted more -- much more.

1. Gravity
No film in 2013 combined action, harrowing life and death scenes and an ocean of emotion like Gravity. Aflonso Cuaron’s space epic follows Sandra Bullock’s Dr. Ryan Stone, who is on her first mission into space, under the guidance of George Clooney’s expedition leader Matt Kowalski. When a Russian satellite explodes, it sends debris across the outer part of Earth’s atmosphere, firmly on a collision course with Stone and Kowalski’s space shuttle. And yes, they happen to be out on a space walk at the time and all hell breaks loose.

Gravity Stars Sandra Bullock

Cuaron’s film has breathtaking cinematography as space will never look as good as it does in his film. The action is intense, and the audience will find it difficult to breathe through most of it! But, what makes Gravity so heavy is its emotion. There is a powerful core of human feelings attached to what Bullock’s stranded in space astronaut goes through. There is a backstory that collides with her current situation that allows the actress to give a whirlwind of a performance for the ages.

Gravity is our best of 2013 because it combines all the elements of why we adore going to see movies on the big screen. The film is a story told on the largest scale imaginable, while still not forgetting that what compels audiences are characters who -- while living out the most extraordinary of circumstances -- are at their true nature, ultimately and intimately human.

Honorable mention: Frozen, The Kings of Summer, The Conjuring, The World’s End, The Spectacular Now, Blackfish, Iron Man 3, Saving Mr. Banks, Captain Phillips, Blue Jasmine, August: Osage County, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Prisoners, Rush, Dallas Buyers Club, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Philomena, Stories We Tell

Pompeii Poster: No Warning, No Escape

The poster for Pompeii has exploded on the scene and its tagline says it all: No warning, no escape. That truly fits the fate of the people of Pompeii as a raging volcano would literally leave the community and its residents in ash. Filmmaker Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil movies) has put a human triumph tale and love story at the heart of the tragedy, and in the process he hopes for his latest hit.

Pompeii Poster

As teased in the Pompeii trailer, Kit Harington is Milo, a slave turned gladiator who falls for the daughter of a local merchant (Emily Browning). Needless to say, that is not a popular romance in this locale!

Pompeii also stars Carrie-Ann Moss, Kiefer Sutherland, Jared Harris, Paz Vega and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. Look for the film February 21, 2014.

George Clooney’s The Monuments Men has released a new trailer with a classic newsreel feel to it to promote his World War II true story. The Monuments Men tells the story of a military unit brought together for one purpose and one purpose only: To salvage Europe’s great cultural artifacts before the Nazis destroy them in the closing days of the war.

The Monuments Men was originally slated for release this month, but due to special effects concerns director Clooney had for the film, he pushed the release date back to February 7, 2014 to complete the shots for maximum authenticity.

Clooney directs and also stars in an ensemble cast that includes Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Cate Blanchett and Hugh Bonneville.

The latest The Monuments Men trailer also announces the establishment of a viral site designed to “support” the work these real life heroes did to protect our society’s greatest works of art. It can be checked out at SupportTheMonumentsMen.com.

Batman vs. Superman: Producer Talks "Empowered" Wonder Woman

Batman vs. Superman producer Wesley Coller was speaking to his native state’s Michigan Live, when he was asked about his upcoming film that will be shooting in his home state at the beginning of 2014. Sure, news of Ben Affleck as Batman electrified the internet. Reaction to the casting of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman was pale in comparison. In fact, it seems like it was met with indifference. So given the reaction to Affleck, Coller should be thrilled.

When it came to the presence of Wonder Woman in the sequel to Man of Steel, Coller stressed that fans shouldn't get ahead of themselves wondering if she'll have her own stand-alone movie. “We’re super excited to have her in the film,” Coller said. “It will be a ton of fun. But at the same time, we’ve got to stay focused on the film we’re working on now."

As the father of a little girl, he’s thrilled at the prospect of Wonder Woman finally making it to the big screen, albeit in a supporting role. “I have a special place in my heart for the idea of a strong, empowered female superhero being out there," he said.

In fact, Coller’s little one already has a favorite book… and its central figure is Wonder Woman. “[Her] favorite book is this little Wonder Woman flip book!”

And from the sound of it, he’s not afraid of any backlash, be it from the casting of Gadot or Affleck.

"Anything you do that’s culturally significant, or any time you deal with an iconic character or story, you’re going to hear responses from every possible perspective," Coller said. "If anything, that gauges the relevance of a property or character, and it’s invigorating to know people care that much. It inspires you to make the coolest version of the movie you can."

Turbo Exclusive: Ken Jeong Dishes Improbable Rise to Stardom

In hindsight, Turbo star Ken Jeong is the most unlikely of Hollywood success stories. A physician by trade, the talent he possessed could not be repressed, so he and his wife moved to Los Angeles with Hollywood dreams, and the rest, as they say… is history.

Movie Fanatic caught up with Jeong for an exclusive chat about his role as Kim Ly (an elderly Vietnamese manicurist) in the newly released Turbo DVD and Blu-Ray, as well as his many memorable roles that have made him one of the most in-demand comic character actors in the business.

As teased in the Turbo trailer, Ryan Reynolds voices the title character. He is a garden snail with dreams of racing in the Indy 500. Through a series of mishaps, he winds up getting his fill of his need for speed. The underdog story charms on many levels (and even made our Top 10 Animated Movies of 2013) and makes the most perfect of Christmas gifts for the youngest ones on your list!

Movie Fanatic: Where’d you go to find your inner Kim Ly?

Ken Jeong: [Laughs] It was so much fun. I have never in a million years thought I would play an old Vietnamese manicurist. It is a bit of an in joke too because my wife is Vietnamese. When I found out I was going to play this character, I told my mother-in-law that this is not based on you! It’s my own interpretation. Doing Turbo, my kids – my twin six-year-old daughters – and for them to ask me to do the voice on request, that is awesome. My kids are quoting me! That is so flattering and I got cool points with the kids.

Movie Fanatic: When you’re recording a character like that, is there such a thing as going too far with the portrayal?

Ken Jeong: I think, like live action in comedy, it was a tight script for Turbo. What I liked about animation voice-over, you read the script and you do your best to get those lines right and then once you have it, then once you’re in the flow, I find your imagination starts rolling and you naturally start improvising and trying out things. There’s an art to it, it’s not throwing the kitchen sink out there and see if it sticks.

Movie Fanatic: You do a lot of voice work, how is that a different challenge for you versus live action?

Ken Jeong: I love animation voice-over. It wasn’t my goal to do this when I quit my day job as a physician. But, the more I do it, I love it. It’s something I want to keep doing the rest of my career. Number one, you don’t have to shower! That’s great. Number two, it’s something that I love because we (the actors) are the icing on the cake. Watching something like Turbo, it’s really a job by (director) David Soren. This film was his passion over the last 10 years. It’s about an underdog story, and so relatable. I relate to it. When I was a physician I never thought in a million years I would be talking to you about my umpteenth movie [laughs]. It’s so surreal and I so relate to the story. That’s what drew me to the story. The hard work that David and the animation team did to perfect it, is astounding. For me, I’m just an added grace note and I’m honored to be a part of it knowing how difficult animation is.

Movie Fanatic: You mentioned being a physician. It seems like the most unlikely path to stardom. Were comedy and acting a calling that you could simply not ignore?

Ken Jeong: Yeah, in a word, yes. I wanted to be an actor, even when I was pre-med. But, I didn’t think it was realistic. I was scared. I remember discussing it with my family. They never said, “Don’t do it.” I didn’t know what my chances were. I’ll be honest, my wife is a physician, and my wife has been so supportive. I got the part in Knocked Up when I had my day job. It was really my wife at the time who encouraged me to pursue it full time. Having such a great support system was priceless. For them to believe in me more than I did, obviously I made the right choice and am so grateful.

Movie Fanatic: You’ve had so many roles, is there one that stands out, or is hard to choose, like picking a favorite puppy?

Ken Jeong: [Laughs] I love that! It is like choosing a favorite puppy! There are so many things that I feel blessed to be a part of. My first role in Knocked Up to Role Models to Mr. Chow in all three Hangover movies, and Chang in Community and Kym Lee in Turbo -- it is an embarrassment of riches. Needless to say, if it wasn’t for The Hangover, I wouldn't be here talking to you. All the success I’ve had in the last four years to me is directly attributed to The Hangover. It literally changed my life from black and white to Technicolor. I love working with those guys and Todd (Phillips). I’ve learned so much from them. As time goes by, I’m on a learning curve -- the more you work, the more you learn. It’s been the best experience. I’m a byproduct of formal education with med school, and I’m the one saying, in this business you learn the most on the job. I’ve had so much fun in so many roles. Even in this last season of Community, I’ve had some moments as Chang that have really ranked up there with my favorite moments as an actor. I just want to keep improving, all while having a lot of fun.
