For fans of Harry Potter who cannot wait for the announced J.K. Rowling Harry Potter spin-off trilogy, have we got news for you. The Harry Potter Hogwarts Collection will arrive in stores on April 29 and will feature 31 discs that include all eight movies and 45-plus hours of special features!

Harry Potter Hogwarts Collection

In 2012, Warner Bros. released The Harry Potter Wizard’s Collection, and completely sold out of all 30,000 sets that were created. Given that the demand was still high for a “get all the Harry Potter movies and bonus features in one spot” collection, Warner will release Harry Potter Hogwarts Collection at the end of the month.

The highlight of this set has to be the eight-part documentary Creating the World of Harry Potter. There is no such thing as too much insight for any Potter fan, and by the conclusion of their eight-part doc, fans should be more than satisfied. But, what’s so awesome about this set is that doc is just the tip of the iceberg!

The package includes Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, part one and two.

That eight part doc’s eight chapters are broken into categories that could not be more perfect in titles and what they explore.

They are:

  • Creating the World of Harry Potter - Part 1: The Magic Begins
  • Creating the World of Harry Potter - Part 2: Characters
  • Creating the World of Harry Potter - Part 3: Creatures
  • Creating the World of Harry Potter - Part 4: Sound & Music
  • Creating the World of Harry Potter - Part 5: Evolution
  • Creating the World of Harry Potter - Part 6: Magical Effects
  • Creating the World of Harry Potter - Part 7: Story
  • Creating the World of Harry Potter - Part 8: Growing Up

Then, you’ll want to explore the three hours of features covered in:

The Harry Potters You Never Met: Meet the stunt doubles for Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson as they demonstrate how they balanced major stunt work while seamlessly mimicking the actors they represented.

Harry Potter box office billions

Designing the World of Harry Potter: Explore how production designer Stuart Craig and his creative team brought J.K. Rowling's imagination to life on the screen.

When Harry Left Hogwarts (Extended Version): Hear candid and emotional stories about the final days on set in this extended behind-the-scenes look.

50 Greatest Harry Potter Moments (Definitive Version): Take a look back with cast members who share their on and off-screen memories.

Secrets Revealed! Quidditch: At last, the secrets behind the special effects required for the breathtaking Quidditch scenes are revealed.

Secrets Revealed! Hagrid: See the camera tricks, towering stand-in and voluminous body suits behind the beloved Keeper of Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts.

Whereas The Harry Potter Wizard’s Collection retailed for just under $500, the Hogwarts Collection comes in at just under $250. As Harry would say, “Brilliant!”

And while you wait, why not watch Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone online!

Oculus Exclusive: Karen Gillan on Her Fear of Mirrors!

Karen Gillan stars in Oculus and as such, she had to do her share of horrifying acting in this wildly original haunt-fest. As seen in the Oculus trailer, she is a grown woman whose past is downright horrifying.

When she was a younger girl, Gillan’s character lived in an idyllic suburban home with her mother and father (Katee Sackhoff and Rory Cochrane in flashbacks). Things were great, that is until a fateful mirror came into her father’s office.

Then, he started acting really weird, and eventually there was murder and mayhem.

We met Gillan for an exclusive video interview and had to ask after making such a movie as Oculus, if she does look at mirrors differently, and will look at mirrors differently for the rest of her life.

“Mirrors are really creepy now,” Gillan admitted. “They used to not be, and now they are. It’s taking a really normal life thing and making it scary. That’s a great formula for anything.”

She also let us know, as a huge horror movie fan, what are her favorite scary flicks. Check out the video above and find out!

Audiences will soon see Gillan in Guardians of the Galaxy this August, but for now, prepare to go for one thrilling ride when Oculus arrives April 11.

Whether it is the first Godzilla poster or the full Godzilla trailer, filmmakers have been quite coy about showing us a good look at that enormous monster that carries the title of the movie.

That all changed today as Warner Bros. gave us a photo featuring the big monster front and center and we have to say, this is a good look for the "King of Monsters."

Godzilla will surely make a splash when it lands in theaters May 18 and anticipation could not be higher after the lackluster response of the Hollywood produced 1998 version starring Matthew Broderick.

This Godzilla stars Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen.

Draft Day Exclusive: Terry Crews Talks Football Movie That’s “Deep”

We caught up with Draft Day stars Terry Crews and Arian Foster for an exclusive video interview.

They had a unique perspective on the film that stars Kevin Costner as a general manager of the Cleveland Browns on the titular day who must choose wisely for his team, himself and his city.

See, Crews and Foster (who play father and son) have both lived through a real Draft Day.

Crews famously played football for many years and now is a star of both TV and film (you can’t miss him in this The Expendables 3 trailer).

Foster is currently a member of the Houston Texans and both marveled at the Draft Day story for being about so much more than football. “It’s about relationships,” Crews admitted. “When a man has dedicated his life to a business, what’s the cost to that? That dynamic is deep.”

Foster feels that the film is as real as it can be, thanks to the league that has made his dreams come true. “This is the first film that the NFL has actually endorsed,” Foster said.

Both former NFLers also chime in on their favorite sports movie, whether football or other. But, you can probably guess they’re football movies and their answers are both quite different!

Rio 2 Review: Lack of Fire in the Amazon

$

0

When Rio arrived in 2011 it was a surprise hit. But, upon reflection, the filmmakers at Blue Sky had given us the charming Ice Age series, and considering that director Carlos Saldanha is from Brazil, his love letter to his hometown came through on every frame and an international smash was born.

Rio 2 Jewel & Blu

Now, three years later, we have Rio 2. And because it’s a sequel and everything has to be bigger in a film follow-up, Saldanha has upped the ante and sent Blu (Jesse Eisenberg) and Jewel (Anne Hathaway) into the Amazon.

Let’s back up a little bit.

We left off in Rio and begin in Rio 2 with Jewel and Blu living happily under protection at a bird sanctuary in the titular city. Their animal and avian friends are back -- the musically inclined Nico (Jamie Foxx) and Pedro (Will.I.Am), the bulldog Luiz (Tracy Morgan) and the toucan Rafael (George Lopez) -- and are helping raise the couple’s three little blue macaws.

The returning cast is great, but as a sequel -- everybody knows -- we must expand and grow. That happens on several fronts.

At the end of Rio, Blu’s “owner” Linda (Leslie Mann) had found a new home in Brazil and a love in Tulio (300 Rise of an Empire star Rodrigo Santoro).

Rio 2 Still

Blu and Jewel see the two bird preservers on television with huge news -- they’ve discovered a flock of blue macaws deep in the Amazonian jungle. Jewel adores the idea of not being the only blue macaws left and convinces her content to be stuck in the city mate Blu to take the family on an adventure to “find their roots.”

The entire Rio cast heads into the Amazon in search of Linda, Rodrigo and they hope, Jewel’s family.

As you can see by the Rio 2 trailer, they are super. Andy Garcia voices Jewel’s father Eduardo, Bruno Mars is Roberto (a former Jewel suitor) and legend Rita Moreno is Jewel’s Aunt Mimi.

The fish out of water story is put to use here with Blu not so sure about his new environ. And thus we have the conflict with Jewel because every sequel has to have conflict. There’s flirtation from Roberto. Blu has difficulty with Eduardo (the clear leader of the flock). It all is, unfortunately, quite predictable.

One terrific aspect is our villain from the first film, Nigel (an awesome Jermaine Clement -- don't miss his version of I Will Survive), who sees his nemesis in Blu and follows him into the jungle to seek revenge -- accompanied by Kristen Chenoweth’s Gabi (a poisonous frog). The pair are terrific together and provide much of the movie’s laughs.

Rio 2 Nigel

Our Rio 2 review finds that it is all good fun. The youngest of moviegoers will adore it. But as a fan of those great Rio quotes and the film as a whole, Movie Fanatic can’t help but feel that something is missing. With the landscape and cast greatly expanded, there should have been more pots of gold. Instead, we found a large helping of predictability.

But at the end of the day, this fan of the music of the area would see the film again, simply for the score and soundtrack. It sambas and firmly sashays into your heart.

Witness the charm of the first film and watch Rio online.

Oculus Review: Don't Look in the Mirror!

$

0

Mike Flanagan has made quite a splash with his first real big screen horror fest Oculus. And who would have thought that something as simple as a household mirror could be so incredibly frightening.

Oculus Karen Gillan Brenton Thwaites

Flanagan co-wrote and directed this story and he has both an astute command of pacing as a writer and tone and feel as a director. From the moment the film starts, his signature is all over every aspect. This is an example of a filmmaker operating in a medium he was born to work in, with a story he so keenly knows and that comes through on every frame. The benefactor of the brilliance is the audience.

Katee Sackhoff and Rory Cochrane play parents in flashbacks and something horrible happened in their home in the days and weeks after an antique mirror was purchased and placed in Cochrane’s home office. And what is so thrilling (we love horror movies and thrillers when they can achieve this) is the ever-so-slow bone-chilling unraveling of Cochrane’s mind -- and also Sackhoff’s. Is it the mirror?

The mirror clearly has a demonic power to it, but it is laid out so subtly that Flanagan is serving its fear factor to us ever so slowly over the course of the film.

And the fact that his film, teased in the Oculus trailer, toggles back and forth between modern day and those horrible events of the past -- further speaks to the filmmaker’s talent and grasp for his material and its genre.

In modern times, Karen Gillan (soon to be seen as Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy) and Brenton Thwaites are Sackhoff and Cochrane’s children. Thwaites is just getting out of a mental institution that he has been in since the “incident.” He is picked up by his sister upon his release and she has one thing on her mind. She has found the mirror and she wants to destroy it once and for all.

It is at this point that Flanagan effortlessly moves between time periods and it only increases the tension, the horror and the scares.

Oculus Katee Sackhoff

What is the deal with this mirror? How are Gillan and Thwaites connected to it and its fate?

Those are just a few of the questions that arise throughout the film and many are answered. But, our Oculus review states, thankfully, Flanagan wraps up his film with a jaw-dropping turn that will have you guessing and also have the audience begging for more.

And with a genre like horror that is so familiar with the idea of the sequel, we hope to take another look into that horrible mirror once more… very soon.

Time will tell if Oculus becomes a classic. But in some ways, watch The Shining online and see if Oculus reminds you of it -- you know, through that whole father goes nuts storyline!

Draft Day Review: Kevin Costner Scores a Touchdown

$

Kevin Costner knows a thing or two about appearing in winning sports movies -- does he do it again with Draft Day?

Draft Day Star Kevin Costner

Costner shined uttering those Bull Durham quotes, warmed our hearts in Field of Dreams, reinforced our Love of the Game and even had some fun with golf in Tin Cup.

As he told us in our Kevin Costner exclusive interview, football is actually his favorite sport. It’s just that there was never a film made that he felt right being a part of where he could play a player. In Draft Day, he is the general manager of the Cleveland Browns and you guessed it -- it’s a very big day in the organization.

There’s some background drama involving Costner’s family, his role with the team and a romance with Jennifer Garner’s team lawyer that all plays out as he works through his options as he readies for his team to make their first round pick.

It seems that the organization is suffering, their place in the city is in jeopardy financially (didn’t the Browns leave once already?) and a certain Browns quarterback (Tom Welling) is convinced that Costner is going to select a golden boy quarterback from the draft.

All this plays out as the clock ticks.

Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters, Dave) gets back in the directing chair for the first time since 2011’s No Strings Attached. And it is through his even hand that Draft Day somehow makes what could be the mundane activity of professional football teams selecting college players to improve their future seem thrilling.

This is one of the first films sanctioned by the NFL and Reitman shows us the love of the game on every frame. And it is clear that both Costner and Garner know their football and too are fans. The league, which in many ways could say it is now our national pastime in terms of popularity, could not ask for a better showcase than what we see even teased in the Draft Day trailer.

Draft Day Jennifer Garner Kevin Costner Denis Leary

And here’s the other thing… you don’t have to be a fan of football to appreciate this story -- particularly in the film’s final riveting 25 minutes. The last act plays out like some of the great thrillers of our time. And what Costner does with his Browns and their picks on this Draft Day is, in reality, kind of unlikely.

But, then again, aren’t we supposed to have a certain amount of suspension of disbelief when we walk into a movie theater? If we wanted complete and utter reality, our Draft Day review says that we could turn on the news!

Can’t get enough of Costner sports movies? Watch Field of Dreams online and prepare to be amazed.

When the Game Stands Tall Trailer: Winning, Losing & Life

$

When sports films are based on a true story, more often than not they can add up to something truly special -- as seen in these Rudy quotes. From the debut trailer for When the Game Stands Tall, it appears that we have another winner.

Jim Caviezel stars as the real life football coach of the De La Salle High School Spartans. Who, you might ask?

Well, that football program set the record for most wins in a row by any sports team in history. They racked up a 151-game winning streak that to this day stands as the most ever in organized sports.

That alone would be a great story, but as you can see from the trailer above for the flick that also stars Michael Chiklis and Laura Dern, When the Game Stands Tall is more about what happens to a team, its coach and its town when they lose.

Look for When the Game Stands Tall in theaters August 22.

In the mood for a great sports story now, huh? Watch Field of Dreams online and you’ll be more than touched by the power of sports on film.

Marvel Studios has released three new photos from Guardians of the Galaxy that focus primarily on Chris Pratt's Star Lord.

We, for one, are thrilled that we get to see the iconic Star Lord mask -- and it was shown off in that first Guardians of the Galaxy clip

There's a second shot of Pratt in the mask running on the set that truly gives us the feeling of being there on the Guardians of the Galaxy London set.

Then, that third picture of Zoe Saldana and Pratt -- we just adore. Love the look on Saldana's face as she is dealing with Pratt's Star Lord. Third Divergent Book Will Be Two Movies: Double the Allegiant

Lionsgate and Summit announced today that the final chapter in Veronica Roth’s Divergent series will be broken into two films. We can expect Allegiant Part 1 on March 18, 2016 and Allegiant Part 2 on March 24, 2017.

Shailene Woodley is Tris in Divergent

This is hardly a surprise as there are many previous examples to show that this model works on many levels. First, sure, it may seem like a cash grab. But, whether it Breaking Dawn or the third chapter of The Hunger Games, Mockingjay, for audiences to go on this journey to have the culmination of all this drama be forced into a two hour movie is simply silly.

And let’s not forget how well it worked for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2!

Clearly Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairmen Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger agree.

"Veronica Roth brings her captivating story to a masterful conclusion in Allegiant, a rich, action-packed book with material that is ideally suited to two strong and fulfilling movies," said Friedman and Wachsberger in a joint statement.

"The storytelling arc and world of the characters lend themselves perfectly to two films, a storytelling strategy that has worked very well for us on the two Twilight Breaking Dawn films and about which we're tremendously enthusiastic for the two upcoming Mockingjay films of The Hunger Games franchise."

By breaking up Allegiant into two parts, the rich and meaty third book by Roth can be given its proper due over the course of two films. There is just too much material in the final chapter of a trilogy to try and break it down into a 120-minute film. It’s nice to let the characters and the conclusion breathe a little bit and we commend Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment for making the bold move.

There is the often used phrase, "the child star curse." It is a real thing!

Few people who found success at an early age on the big screen (or small screen for that matter) manage to successfully grow up in front of our eyes to achieve greatness in their field as adults.

Movie Fanatic has chosen 11 to highlight for not only bucking the "child actor curse," but in fact they have become some of the biggest names in Hollywood creating movies that will go down as some of the best ever made.

Want a clue as to who one is? Watch The Dark Knight online and that guy wearing the Batman suit -- he started as a youngster in a Steven Spielberg movie!

Another? How about the titular character who explodes off the screen when you watch The Wolf of Wall Street online? He's done pretty well for himself!

Click through and see our 11 child movie stars who became adult movie stars, all while bucking that dreaded child star (and life ruining) curse.

From Freaky Friday to her role in Taxi Driver, fame found Jodie Foster early. And she not only turned out well balanced and supremely talented, she's an Oscar winner, a gifted writer, producer and director.

Christian Bale

10. Christian Bale

One of my favorite Steven Spielberg movies is Empire of the Sun, and that is largely due to the performance of a very young Christian Bale. Not only has he matured as a person and as an actor, Bale has triumphed in ways we could never have imagined watching him as a young man making his screen debut in a Spielberg movie!

Ron Howard

11. Ron Howard

Yes, technically Ron Howard works the other side of the camera. But, can you think of many child stars of his era that are still working today? And if he isn't the most talented director churning out films, he's right up there.

Weekend Movie Preview: April 11, 2014

The weekend movie preview this week illustrates that there is something out there for everyone. Now, will they be able to compete with the blockbuster that is Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Probably not, but at least there are a wide variety of other options for moviegoers this week. Let's take a look...

Draft Day: Kevin Costner returns to the sports movie genre that he has triumphed with so brilliantly in the past. With Draft Day, he enters the world of football for the first time as the general manager of the Cleveland Browns on the titular day. The pressure is on to choose a draft pick that will save his team, and largely his job and his city's future. As we stated in our Draft Day review, this is one riveting film that finds itself almost feeling like a thriller -- especially in those jaw-dropping final 25 minutes.

Rio 2: The gang from Rio is back! This time out, Jesse Eisenberg's Blu and Anne Hathaway's Jewel have three little birdie kids and they head into the Amazon in search of more blue macaws so they don't feel so alone. The cast expands, most notably with Bruno Mars, Andy Garcia and Rita Moreno. As we reported in our Rio 2 review, the first film has a bit more charm, but this one will still get you enjoying some samba music and good family fun.

Oculus: A new horror master is born in a wildly original scare-fest that features something as simple as a household mirror as something that is extolling the fear. The cast is top notch, particularly Katee Sackhoff and Karen Gillan. Long after the credits roll on this film, you will still be haunted by it and, frankly, clamoring for more. To learn more about this fantastic flick, check out our Oculus review.

Feel like staying home this weekend?

Although they were just barely shown and teased in the Transformers: Age of Extinction trailer, Michael Bay is introducing a whole slew of new Transformers in his fourth Transformers movie.

Sure, there are old favorites like Bumblebee and Optimus Prime, but one thing we learned in that first trailer -- after rumors flew for months -- is that in fact the Dinobots will be in Transformers: Age of Extinction

There's quite a few Dinobots, actually.

Hasbro (the toy company behind the Transformers), has released a series of 13 photos showing off all the robotic talent in Bay's film that hits theaters June 27 and stars Mark Wahlberg stepping in for Shia LaBeouf.

Click through and meet the robotic cast of Transformers: Age of Extinction and then watch Transformers online to remind yourself how all this got started.

Hot on the heels of that first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles teaser, Paramount used the MTV Movie Awards last night as a chance to wheel out its first TV spot for the highly anticipated arrival of the return of one of the 1990's most popular heroes.

The quartet come back, and they have some human help with Megan Fox and Will Arnett.

We’ve got the first synopsis on the Michael Bay-produced film too! Check it out:

The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April O’Neil (Megan Fox) and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett) to save the city and unravel Shredder’s diabolical plan.

Based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman with a screenplay by Josh Appelbaum & Andre Nemec and Evan Daugherty, producer Michael Bay and director Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans) bring Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the popular franchise that has captivated audiences of all ages for decades, into the 21st century.

New to the series? Why not watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles online to get up to speed on why these guys are so popular, decades after they first appeared.

Hercules TV Trailer: Dwayne Johnson Lives Large

Hercules has debuted its first TV spot, and for a 30-second tease, it sure packs more action footage than presented in that initial Hercules trailer!

Dwayne Johnson plays the iconic hero, and for this Hercules story, we're meeting the legend later in life. He is already known throughout the world as the man with the god-like name. But, he has withdrawn into himself and become a mercenary to try to right decades of living wrong.

Then, something changes and he takes a mission for a person who is not exactly who he says he is and our hero must dig deep and become the larger-than-life man that had become more myth than real.

This Hercules spot premiered during the MTV Movie Awards and is based on the wildly popular graphic novel from Radical Comics by Steve Moore and features an all-star cast including Oscar nominee John Hurt, Rufus Sewell and Joseph Fiennes.

Look for Johnson's sword and sandal epic July 25.

Avengers Age of Ultron: Paul Bettany on Being the Vision!

It has been rumored for some time, but it is official that Paul Bettany is the Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron. He may be a physical newbie to the Marvel world, like Aaron Taylor Johnson as Quicksilver and Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, but fans of Marvel know all too well that Bettany is the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S. in the Iron Man trilogy.

Paul Bettany Photo

While on Jimmy Kimmel Live promoting his role in Johnny Depp’s Transcendence, Kimmel asked Bettany about his Avengers: Age of Ultron part. Of course, he couldn’t say too much, but what he did say was certainly entertaining.

"Oh I can do all sorts of things, but I'm not allowed to really talk about them and what we're going to do because there might be a Marvel agent in the room who will actually wrestle me to the ground and fire me,” Bettany said.

“It's very exciting for me, but everything is a double-edged sword, right? Because I was playing J.A.R.V.I.S. for years and my job was I would turn up at a recording studio for 45 minutes, do all my stuff, and then they would give me a huge bag of cash and then I'd go home. Now it turns out they've found me out and they want me to actually do something!"

Avengers: Age of Ultron is due in theaters May 1, 2015. Check out Bettany as J.A.R.V.I.S. when you watch Iron Man 3 online.

Disney has released a series of terrific photos from their upcoming May 30 release Maleficent.

We've been enchanted by the casting of Angelina Jolie as the title character since it was first announced. But, there was something about that first Maleficent trailer that truly put us under her spell.

These series of photos also show off more of Elle Fanning, who it appears Jolie's Maleficent has been obsessed with since her birth. We also get a great look at Maleficent's dragon and the fairies who may have something to do with why Jolie's villain is so darn vengeful.

And the latest Maleficent TV spot painted a picture of how beautifully evil the set design is for this Disney flick.

Click through our slideshow below for not only a slew of fantastic Jolie as Maleficent photos, but also to get a magical idea of the fantastical landscape of Maleficent.

Hot on the heels of their MTV Movie Awards Transformers: Age of Extinction TV spot, Paramount has released a series of photos from their upcoming June 27 release from Michael Bay.

See, the stars of these stills are all human! They feature Mark Wahlberg getting ready for action, Wahlberg and his onscreen daughter played by Nicola Peltz in action, and Wahlberg about to work on what he thinks is a "lost" Transformer. And then there's the debut of Jack Raynor and a few other classic "Bay poses."

Get ready for the big summer sequel and watch Transformers online to see how it all got going!

Being a sidekick in a movie can be a thankless task.

The lead can get all the glory. But, if handled correctly, the movie sidekick can go down in movie history as one of the genre's most memorable characters.

Movie Fanatic has named 17 of our absolute favorite movie sidekicks and they're not just earning their legacy through great screen presence (like a certain someone who utters hilarious Talladega Nights quotes!).

But, many rise to the occasion and save the day -- like a certain Hobbit!

Watch Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom online and meet one of our favorites or watch The Big Lebowski online and witness another!
