Dawn of the Planet of the Apes: 9 Things We Learned From Seeing Footage

0
0

We had the honor of heading to the 20th Century Fox lot and seeing over 20 minutes of footage from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. After seeing five impressive scenes, we were treated to a Dawn of the Planet of the Apes trailer and even a scene (which we cannot reveal just yet!).

Andy Serkis is back as Caesar and he introduced the footage and was clearly more proud of this work than anything he has ever done. "It's such an honor to be part of something so meaningful," he said. "This is a film that means something."

Two things immediately stood out: 1) This film has heart and is about community and family and 2) motion capture has never been as advanced as it is on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

"The technology now captures actors' performances and that is a big shift in having people understand that the authorship of the role is firmly with the actors on the set," Serkis proudly stated.

So, what was the entirety of what we took away from the 20 minutes of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes footage?

Click through and see the 9 things we learned from the jaw-dropping footage. And to get ready for the July 11 release, watch Rise of the Planet of the Apes online

Brick Mansions Review: Paul Walker Goes Deep

0
0

Brick Mansions features Paul Walker in action. Walker gets to fight in some elaborately choreographed scenes and even gets in some driving action that will make his millions of fans smile and shed a tear at the same time. But, the action star here is truly Frenchman David Belle.

David Belle Paul Walker Brick Mansions

Belle, as one of the founders of Parkour, should surprise no one that he dazzles on the screen with his ability to break the rules of gravity in the most beautiful of ways. For those familiar with his work as a film choreographer and stunt coordinator, serving as the true action hero of Brick Mansions should pretty much be a given.

Brick Mansions is based on the French film District B13 and is from screenwriters Luc Besson and Bibi Naceri, who penned the original. In the American version, directed by Camille Delamarre, the action shifts to Detroit where Walker is a cop who, we learn, has lost his father to the violence of the Brick Mansions.

What are the Brick Mansions, you ask? It is an area of the city where crime got so bad that the city built a wall around it and pretty much left it to its own devices. But, when a threat is posed from inside Brick Mansions that affects the citizens of Detroit, that’s when the cops get involved (as best they can.).

Walker is asked to head into Brick Mansions because a crime lord who runs the city, played with perfect panache by RZA, has a dirty bomb and he’s threatening to send it into the heart of Detroit. The only thing is this man who usually works alone (Walker) has to team up with someone on the inside, and that man is Belle’s Lino.

The plot itself doesn’t quite hold together throughout the film. And some things that are integral to the perceived threat to the city do not add up. And what is the film’s biggest crime is a major character changes their modus operandi two thirds of the way through that honestly makes no sense whatsoever.

Overall, Brick Mansions is a decent film, but the reason to see it is its extravagant action sequences.

Just as we stated in our The Raid 2 review about that film, there are action films that come along that are benchmarks. And although the drama suffers under a convoluted plot, our Brick Mansions review believes that thanks to the work of Belle and his stunt sequence partner in crime, Walker, this film will change things when it comes to action movies and how they’re made and executed in Hollywood.

The Quiet Ones Review: Manipulating Horror

0
0

The Quiet Ones poses an interesting question in terms of mental illness, the supernatural and the middle ground that could exist between the two. All this, of course, masked as an intellectual horror film.

The Quiet Ones Jared Harris Olivia Cooke

Jared Harris is Professor Joseph Coupland and he is conducting experiments on a troubled young woman named Jane Harper (Olivia Cooke). She claims to be possessed by an entity named Evie. But, is she mentally disturbed or is she truly taken over by a supernatural force?

The Quiet Ones is loosely based on a set of real experiments conducted in the '70s by a British professor who thought that if he could manifest a poltergeist, albeit in someone’s mind, that he could find the root to ridding the world of all supernatural evil.

Sam Claflin (Catching Fire) is in many ways our eyes and ears as the filmmaker Brian who is hired by Coupland to document the experiments. Many of these "experiments" are truly torturous, to be honest -- such as sleep deprivation, starvation and mental manipulation. But, in The Quiet Ones, there truly is a ghost of some sort. And it is not happy one bit.

Cooke is a discovery as Jane. The mental hula hoops she has to navigate with this performance are nothing short of a revelation. She plays Jane as a victim, a possible supernatural vessel, and in flirting with Brian, a manipulator of men. Throughout The Quiet Ones, you start to wonder who is playing who and to what extent they will push it in this mental menagerie that is essentially a game of supernatural chicken.

Director John Poque knows how to dish out the character development and the scares at such an even pace that the viewer hardly ever knows when either is around the corner. His cast is in top form, especially Harris, Claflin and Cooke. The veteran, Harris, commands every scene and carries the movie in so many ways. Harris plays the professor’s motives close to his vest and it is for the betterment of the entire film.

The Quiet Ones Sam Claflin Jared Harris

Most actors might try to work the scenes like their own acting master class with a role like that of Coupland, but not Harris. He is not quite good guy and not quite bad guy. Harris plays him firmly in the grey and as such, it is a perfect match for the tone of a stylistic horror film such as The Quiet Ones. One can feel the '70s dripping from every scene, but yet the film feels timeless in the way that the best horror movies achieve.

Our The Quiet Ones review finds that the film is a solid entry in the horror movie lexicon for 2014. For fans of the genre, they will leave happy (and slightly scared).

The Other Woman Review: Leslie Mann Steals the Show

0
0

The Other Woman has an interesting premise. Leslie Mann plays Kate King, a woman who appears to be happily married to Nikolaj Coster-Waldau’s Mark King. The only thing is Mark is having an affair with Cameron Diaz.

Leslie Mann Kate Upton Cameron Diaz The Other Woman

Let’s back up a bit.

The thing about The Other Woman, and you could guess given the film’s title, is that it is told from the perspective of Diaz’s Carly. We meet Carly and she is madly in love and believes she has the most awesome guy in the world. She has played the field and is ready to settle down with her beau that she’s ready to introduce to her friends. And yes, his name is Mark.

On the eve of Mark meeting Carly's father, he announces that he has to go to his house in Connecticut for the weekend and cancels their plans. Carly decides to head to Connecticut to surprise him and as teased in The Other Woman trailer, Carly meets Kate… Mark’s wife.

And like is shown off in this The Other Woman clip, Carly is pissed and decides she will not be giving Mark any sort of chance with having a future with her. She had no idea he was married.

The curveball in The Other Woman’s woman-scorned premise is that Kate pursues Carly with a million questions. They become unlikely friends, due to their shared distrust of Mark, and in the process meet Amber (Kate Upton) -- another lover of Mark’s. Upton is in the dark as well and now we’ve got a trio who you may think would be hell-bent on revenge.

Cameron Diaz The Other Woman

They are, to some degree, but that is not what The Other Woman is truly about. This film is a women as friends movie. The three bond over their scorn, but that is simply the beginning of what connects them as each other’s support circle.

The problem we have is that it is possible that this friendship would be the outcome of such a situation. But, in the short span of a film it is a little hard to buy. Director Nick Cassavetes does his best with a story that in theory should work. And the cast has outstanding chemistry that has the viewer pulling for these women to not even get revenge, but to just be happy.

Two actresses stand out. In many ways, this is Mann’s movie. It’s presented as a Diaz vehicle, but it truly is Mann’s chance to shine. She explores all sorts of emotions and has us laughing hysterically at and with her along the way. Joining her in the spotlight belongs on them department is Nicki Minaj, who portrays Diaz’s assistant. In fact, we wanted more scenes with the rapper-singer! Let’s just say she has a promising future in film if she wants it.

Our The Other Woman review finds that women will enjoy the camaraderie that is truly the theme of the film -- even if it is a little forced.

Batman vs. Superman: Ray Fisher Cast as Cyborg

Ray Fisher has scored the role of a lifetime in Zack Snyder’s Batman vs. Superman. Fisher, primarily known for his stage work, has been cast as Victor Stone, better known as Cyborg.

Now, this is getting interesting, people. Since Warner Bros., DC Comics and Snyder himself haven’t really committed to a title and most people are referring to the film as Batman vs. Superman, this Man of Steel sequel is starting to look a whole lot like a Justice League movie.

We’ve got Henry Cavill returning as Superman. There’s Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and now Fisher as Cyborg -- all Justice League members. Either this is setting up a Justice League movie or it is one!

Gimme Shelter Exclusive Clips: Vanessa Hudgens Talks The Future

Gimme Shelter stars Vanessa Hudgens as a runaway pregnant teenager who is escaping a drug-addicted mother (Rosario Dawson, recently seen in that Sin City: A Dame to Kill For trailer) and whose father (Brendan Frasier) doesn’t even know she exists.

The film is arriving on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download April 29 and to celebrate, we present two exclusive clips of Hudgens talking about why the film is so important, and then on a lighter note, she talks about her hopes and dreams for what’s next in her career.

First up, Hudgens talks about the gritty film that is based on the real life experiences of pregnant teens in shelters and the tough, and sometimes warm, moments they share as they embark on the journey of motherhood.

Hudgens dishes why this film is so important and why this is one of these issues that should not be swept under the rug.

Then, Hudgens talks about the genres of movies she would like to explore as her career moves away from Disney darling into more meaty fare like she has with Gimme Shelter.

For fans of Hudgens who still watch High School Musical 3 online, it’s nice to see her branch out and to see that Gimme Shelter is the first page in a new chapter of her life and career.

X-Men Days of Future Past TV Trailer: I Call Them Sentinels

The latest X-Men: Days of Future Past TV trailer has arrived and it introduces us to our foil(s). Peter Dinklage’s Bolivar Trask has invented a little (well, huge) thing called Sentinels and they’re built to save us from the threat that he perceives coming from our favorite mutants.

Of course we know from that final X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer that those Sentinels start targeting humans and that it could very well be the end of days.

That’s where Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine comes in, leaping back in time to unite the X-Men, specifically James McAvoy’s Professor X and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto, in order to prevent a global catastrophe in the future.

X-Men: Days of Future Past lands in theaters May 23. Might we suggest two films that will get you all sorts of ready for the big summer movie: Watch X-Men online and watch X-Men: First Class online

Weekend Movie Preview: April 25, 2014

0
0

The weekend movie preview for this final weekend in April features a comedy about women finding friends (The Other Woman) and a horror flick that is based on some spooky real experiments from the '70s.

And then there is, sadly, one of the final films in Paul Walker's career -- Brick Mansions.

The Other Woman: Cameron Diaz portrays the title character, although as we stated in our The Other Woman review, this is absolutely Leslie Mann's movie. Mann plays a wife who discovers that her husband is having an affair with Diaz, and Kate Upton. The three form an unlikely bond over their cheating man and discover that friendship can run deeper than love. The film avoids a million chick flick cliches and is oftentimes funny and has a lot of heart. We just felt it needed to be a little more grounded in reality.

Brick Mansions: Walker plays a Detroit cop in the near future who has to head into the worst part of town (known as Brick Mansions) to prevent a dirty bomb from being lobbed into the city and killing millions. Walker is astounding, but this action film belongs to the supremely talented Frenchman who invented Parkour -- David Belle -- and there is plenty of that action in this flick. For more, check out our Brick Mansions review.

The Quiet Ones: Jared Harris stars as a British professor who is conducting a slightly unethical experiment. It is all in an effort to get a woman to manifest a poltergeist. When they realize she really is possessed, the horror truly happens! Our The Quiet Ones review found that the film truly spooks and will leave you thinking about its morality long after the credits have rolled.

Feel like staying in this weekend? Several fantastic (and Oscar nominated) films are out now on digital download. Watch Philomena online and see the Best Picture nominee, and another Best Picture nominee is available when you watch The Wolf of Wall Street online

17 Directors That Constantly Deliver: Helming at a Higher Level

0
0

Making a movie is no easy task for a director. With so many moving parts, there is a lot that can go wrong, even with a great script and a fantastic cast.

But, there is something about this group of directors who manage to continually deliver us brilliance -- time and time again.

Many have been doing great work, movie after movie, for decades -- watch The Wolf of Wall Street online for one.

And others not only direct with supreme power (watch Django Unchained online), but can write as well -- if not better -- than the best screenwriters out there (check out these Pulp Fiction quotes and see!).

Click through and see our list of 17 directors who continually deliver movies at the highest level of filmmaking.

17 Directors Who Deliver
From Memento to The Dark Knight Rises, Christopher Nolan continually pushes the envelope and leaves his audience utterly breathless. With this fall's Interstellar's buzz through the roof, that looks like it won't change.

From Memento to The Dark Knight Rises, Christopher Nolan continually pushes the envelope and leaves his audience utterly breathless. With this fall's Interstellar's buzz through the roof, that looks like it won't change.

Steven Spielberg

2. Steven Spielberg

Even Steven Spielberg's so-so movies are great. It's hard to think he has been delivering fantastic films for so many decades. We can't wait to see what he does next and hopes he never puts down his camera.

Martin Scorsese

3. Martin Scorsese

Every time you watch a Martin Scorsese film, you know it's him behind the camera. And every time you witness a Scorsese movie, you know it will be cinematic perfection.

Luc Besson

4. Luc Besson

Sure, he doesn't direct as much as we'd like. But there is something extraordinary about him when he does. Whether it The Fifth Element or The Professional, you know you're watching a Besson film. We. Can't. Wait. For. Lucy.

Kathryn Bigelow

5. Kathryn Bigelow

After impressing us in the early '90s with Point Break, it's nice to see Kathryn Bigelow get the credit she deserves with her Oscar win for The Hurt Locker and nominations for Zero Dark Thirty. Whatever she does next, count us in.

Quentin Tarantino

6. Quentin Tarantino

Not only does Quentin Tarantino have a way with his camera and giving us the most "Tarantino" of movies, but the man writes like nobody else. He is truly one of a kind.

James Cameron

7. James Cameron

Say what you will about Avatar (some love it, some loathe it), James Cameron is a director who ALWAYS delivers.

Wes Anderson

8. Wes Anderson

Wes Anderson has the most unique of styles and although his subjects change, what doesn't is the brilliance of his work. From Bottle Rocket and Rushmore to The Grand Budapest Hotel, Anderson is just getting started.

Alfonso Cuaron

9. Alfonso Cuaron

Alfonso Cuaron took four years to make Gravity and the proof of his gift was on every frame. Cuaron even made our favorite Harry Potter movie, and no matter what he does next, we will be there.

Peter Jackson

10. Peter Jackson

Whether directing in Middle Earth with The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit, or his early work with Heavenly Creatures and even King Kong, everything Jackson does rivets.

Ang Lee

11. Ang Lee

Ang Lee is an underappreciated visionary. And the reason we use the word "underappreciated" is that audiences are always so surprised when he delivers us greatness. Life of Pi... no one should have been surprised that was so great.

Alexander Payne

12. Alexander Payne

No one takes a sensational screenplay and brings it to life like Alexander Payne. From Election and Sideways to The Descendants and now the Oscar-nominated Nebraska, Payne shows he is beyond gifted as a storyteller.

David O. Russell

13. David O. Russell

Although there are some actors (George Clooney, Lily Tomlin) who may disagree with us, David O. Russell is a master at what he does. We adore his Three Kings. The Fighter is a movie to treasure and Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle are both instant classics.

Ben Affleck

14. Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck has gone three-for-three in his short directing career. At this point, if he is attached as helmer, we'll be first in line. His Best Picture win for Argo only proves that he is just getting started on his road to being considered one of Hollywood's best -- of all time.

Woody Allen

15. Woody Allen

Even at his late age, Woody Allen is still delivering the goods. Writing and directing Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine to an Oscar win is just further proof of that fact.

Joel and Ethan Coen

16. Joel and Ethan Coen

Nobody should be surprised to see the Coen brothers on this list! Whether it's comedies (Raising Arizona, The Big Lebowski), crime dramas (No Country for Old Men) or Westerns (True Grit), is there anything these guys can't do?

David Fincher

17. David Fincher

David Fincher has been one of our favorites since he directed a music video for Aerosmith (Janie's Got a Gun). Zodiac is one of the more underappreciated movies in recent memory and he could not have been a better choice to helm Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. To say we're excited for his Gone Girl, well, that is just underestimating our eagerness!

Lucy Exclusive: Luc Besson Talks Return to Directing

0
0

Luc Besson is back in the director’s chair (he’s one of our 17 directors who deliver) with Lucy. Scarlett Johansson is Lucy and she is a woman who is kidnapped and has drugs surgically implanted in her stomach to be a drug mule. When she gets where she is to deliver them, she is punched in the stomach and it sets off a chain reaction that allows her to access parts of her brain that only scientists have dreamed of. It’s like… she has superpowers.

Scarlett Johansson Lucy

We caught up with Besson recently for an exclusive chat about Lucy and how the writer-director of some of our favorite movies (The Professional and The Fifth Element) chose Lucy as the one that would get him wielding a camera again. He hasn’t directed much lately, and has instead focused on writing and producing such films as Liam Neeson’s Taken series, the Transporter series and Columbiana among many others. We start with, why now to direct and why Lucy?

Movie Fanatic: After writing and producing for so long, how did you decide that Lucy was going to be the next movie you’d direct?

Luc Besson: I always knew that this one I would do for sure. I’m very excited by the purpose of the film, the intelligence of the film -- the brain, our capacity. The Lucy, the pre-historical Lucy from three million years ago, her brain is 400 grams. Our brain today is 1.4 kilo. It takes us three million years to take one kilo of knowledge and that’s fascinating to me.

Movie Fanatic: Was the story in your head before you heard about the prehistoric Lucy?

Luc Besson: No, it’s a mix. I met a couple of professors who are great specialists of the brain, or the nerve cells and cells. These guys are geniuses. I talked with them non-stop because I am so fascinated to see what they discover and where they’re going. At the end of the day, that’s a great documentary [laughs]. I always tried for a long time to see how we can make it interesting enough, and find a story where we can have the legs and the brain. It’s not only the legs and the brain that kick ass, but you also have food to think about. I would love that people love the film and at the end people go on the internet because they want to know more about the brain. It will be a victory for me.

Movie Fanatic: I’ve always been fascinated by the fact that they only say we use ten percent of our brain. And you explore that in the Lucy trailer and the footage I saw of the film. If we could use more, what would that look like? What would that feel like? What would we do with it? Did you have fun imagining what that would be?

Luc Besson: Oh yeah [laughs], a lot of fun. What was fun was to take all the knowledge we have and to push the envelope a bit to see where we can go. For example one cell of your body is sending 1,000 messages per second per cell and you have 100,000 millions of cells in your body. And they exchange all those messages! The quantity of messages per second that you send within your body is bigger than the number of stars in the universe. And that is only one person -- look at all the people here in this room. And we have no access to these messages. There’s a part of the brain who has access to it. But no, you, you’re not allowed. It’s fascinating. Then you have the beginning of how we go from ten percent of using our brain to fifteen. The first level is the control of yourself, which is the most plausible. Some people can control their heartbeat. But, that’s all you can do. The second step is control of others. There are four steps.

Movie Fanatic: We haven’t seen anything about this in the movie footage or trailer, but I was curious if you address the fact of how Lucy can handle her using more of her brain than anyone in history and the effect on her physiologically? Can we handle it mentally the way we’re wired right now?

Luc Besson Photo

Luc Besson: When you follow the film and really get into it, you will need an aspirin at the end of the film [laughs]. Good question, just wait until the end of the film. You will say (expletive). The funny thing is the more you go in the film, you start to get crazy. When the end arrives, it’s so simple. You will say, “Of course.” But, you have to go through it to get there. It’s fun to watch because there’s action and humor, but it’s challenging. It’s almost like chess.

Movie Fanatic: One thing that struck me too is Scarlett Johansson is like a force of nature in this thing. What was it about her that she was your Lucy?

Luc Besson: It’s the meeting, the first one. When you meet an actress or actor, it’s because you like that person. Second, you think they can do it. But after, it’s about the chemistry. You need to feel comfortable. You’re going to spend six months together. You need to be sure that it’s not a job. She was really focused on me when I was telling her about the film. She was feeling it. I can feel she was at the right spot already. Then she read the script and called me. The way she talked about the script and the story, she understood it.

In a move that truly should surprise no one, it was announced today by the Warner Bros. president of worldwide production -- Greg Silverman -- that Zack Snyder has officially been tapped to direct the Justice League movie.

The Justice League

What, honestly, is surprising is that there will be a Justice League movie.

It seemed like a pipe dream for DC Comics fans that the idea of a The Avengers- type film for their favorite DC Comics superheroes would ever happen. The idea that Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and more would fight together had for years appeared like something that would never come together.

Now that it is announced -- there’s no going back!

The fact that Snyder is directing it -- now that is hardly a shocker given that he helmed Man of Steel, and its sequel (currently called Batman vs. Superman) features Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and the recently announced casting of Ray Fisher as Cyborg. We actually wondered with the latter news if in fact Batman vs. Superman would be a Justice League movie.

It is official that Snyder is directing Justice League, but not necessarily the type of news that one would describe as shocking!

Now, we get it how all these heroes are getting put into the Man of Steel sequel.

We’re guessing many of these heroes will make an appearance in Batman vs. Superman and that this Man of Steel sequel will clearly be a set-up for Justice League.

There is no script. There is no release date, only this quote in the Wall Street Journal from Silverman. "It will be a further expansion of this universe. Superman vs. Batman will lead into Justice League," he said.

As we get ready for Snyder’s next film, watch Man of Steel online to get an idea of where he’s been before we see where he’s going.

Warner Bros. has released the latest (and greatest) look at the titular monster from Gareth Edwards' Godzilla

We love this photo because not only is it the best look we've had yet for the monster that is set to crash onto movie screens May 16, but it's interesting how calmly the king of the monsters appears to be moving through the city. Like, no biggie... just takin' a walk!

Check out the Japanese Godzilla trailer and we have to say, we have a good feeling about this latest Hollywood version of the monster that got its start in the land of the rising sun.

That's why it's near the top of our must-see summer movies!

Guardians of the Galaxy Photos: Star Lord Gets the Spotlight

Guardians of the Galaxy is still several months away from its release and it lingers large on our must-see summer movies list. Much of that reason has to do with the casting of Chris Pratt as Star Lord.

Check out the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer and try not to be compelled to see the flick based on his otherworldly performance in a few short minutes! Pratt is getting some love today as Marvel released two new stills featuring the actor in action. Our favorite is the one of Pratt wearing the iconic Star Lord mask!

The film introduces a whole new set of superheroes from Marvel with Pratt leading the way. Joining him is Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista and the voices of Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon and Vin Diesel as Groot.

Guardians of the Galaxy lands in theaters August 1. Click through and enjoy our new Pratt photos and then keep clicking to witness the Marvel magic with all of our Guardians of the Galaxy stills in the slideshow below.

Dumb and Dumber To: Jim Carrey & Jeff Daniels Get Clean (Together)

A new image from Dumb and Dumber To has arrived and it features its two stars -- Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels -- taking a shower, together. Well, that is sort of true.

The still features Lloyd and Harry getting cleaned up in a waterfall and we can only imagine why they are there in the first place.

Dumb and Dumber To doesn't hit theaters until November 14, so we have quite a while, but these photos are certainly holding us over. That and the timeless Dumb and Dumber quotes

Recently, director Peter Farrelly talked about what to expect from the film and it should hardly be a surprise that these two have not gained one ounce of smarts in the 20 years since we last saw them -- wouldn't have it any other way!

Watch Dumb and Dumber online and get all sorts of ready for the dumbest movie of the fall.

Check out the new photo below and click through all our photos from Dumb and Dumber To. And be sure to keep checking back as we're sure this gallery will greatly expand in the coming months.

Star Wars Episode VII: Why Are Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford & Carrie Fisher All in London?

0
0

So, we know from that Carrie Fisher interview that she is planning to join her Star Wars co-stars Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill in Star Wars: Episode VII. But, no word from Lucasfilm, J.J. Abrams or anyone in the Disney camp -- not even a denial!

Now, London is abuzz as Hamill, Fisher and Ford have all been spotted in the British city, merely miles away from where Abrams will be filming Star Wars: Episode VII at Pinewood Studios. Think that’s a coincidence? That is not likely.

Hamill was even spotted out with Peter Serafinowicz, the voice of Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace, who took to Twitter to announce his companion for the evening. “Met up with @HamillHimself in London today. I wonder why he’s here?” He even posted a pic:

Peter Serafinowicz Mark Hamill Photo

Is it us, or does Hamill look like quite the Jedi master with that beard?

We know filming is starting soon. We know that casting has not been announced. We do know that Star Wars: Episode VII will be returning to Hoth (filming in Iceland) and Tatooine (with filming in Morocco & Abu Dhabi). Those locales tell us that Han, Luke and Leia will be in this film. And the fact that they’re in London, well, let’s let that speak for itself until we have some news from Lucasfilm!

Maybe, just maybe, we'll get some official confirmation about casting on Star Wars day, aka May the Fourth.

17 Best Vampire Movies: Films That Suck in a Good Way

0
0

Vampire movies seem to be all the rage in the last decade or so. But, in fact, vamp flicks have been standard Hollywood fare since 1921 when Nosferatu terrified audiences.

Finding a great blood sucker movie can be a difficult task. In fact, most of them suck -- and not in a good way.

But some transcend the vampire-horror genre and are simply great movies -- watch Blade online or watch The Lost Boys online for two that we cannot get enough of.

Click through and check out our 17 best vampire movies, aka vampire movies that suck -- in a good way.

17 Vampire Movies That Suck
Bram Stoker's Dracula is probably one of the last great films that Francis Ford Coppola ever made. And Gary Oldman as Dracula? Bloody brilliant.

Nosferatu

2. Nosferatu

Nosferatu is a 1922 classic that truly introduced the world to the horrors of vampires. To this day, it stands up as one of the creepiest films ever made.

Fright Night

3. Fright Night

Not that we didn't like the remake with Colin Farrell, but there is something supremely awesome about the 1985 film that chronicles what happens when a teeange boy realizes he's living next door to a vampire. Remember: Don't invite him in. D'oh! Mom already did!

Interview with the Vampire

4. Interview with the Vampire

The Anne Rice classic book comes to the big screen in a film that is still causing debate. Some think that Tom Cruise was not perfect for Lestat. Others love him. Either way, for us, this is one fantastic flick that still stands up today.

Dracula

5. Dracula

1931's Dracula showed off the mad acting skills of Bela Lugosi. Watching it, it's easy to see that Lugosi's Dracula is right near the top of the list as one of the more powerful performances ever turned in as the famous fanged film spook.

Underworld

6. Underworld

Underworld struck such a chord that they've been making Underworld movies since it premiered in 2003. And what an original story idea! Also, Kate Beckinsale kills it as a werewolf killer!

Blade

7. Blade

Wesley Snipes could not have been better cast as Blade, the half-human, half-vampire savior of the human race. What better soul to wipe out vamps, than one who is partly one himself?!

30 Days of Night

8. 30 Days of Night

What a horrifying concept found in 30 Days of Night. Vampires running loose in Alaska. Two things make that scary. One, we all know that vampires can't walk among us in the light. Two, the story takes place in Alaska where the sun doesn't "come out" for 30 days. Yeah, have fun with that.

From Dusk Till Dawn

9. From Dusk Till Dawn

George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino are a pair of brothers on the run who find shelter in a Mexican brothel. There's one problem: All the brothel's workers are vampires! Such a wild idea, both in theory and how it's executed by Robert Rodriguez.

Vampires

10. Vampires

Director John Carpenter is a horror master. The fact that it took until the late '80s for him to turn his camera on vampires was more than worth the wait.

Let the Right One In

11. Let the Right One In

Haven't seen this Scandanavian gem? We don't even want to give you one clue about it. Just run, don't walk, and see it -- NOW!

Near Dark

12. Near Dark

This little known late '80s flick is one of those hidden gems that escaped the masses. It features the story of a young man driven by love (or lust?) who follows a girl he's into and her family. There's just one thing: They're vampires. Hey, you can put up with a lot of quirks when you're in love.

Lost Boys

13. Lost Boys

There's no way we make a list of great vamp movies and not have the '80s classic Lost Boys on here. The idea of vampires causing horror in Santa Cruz is just awesome. Plus, Kiefer Sutherland turns in one of his best performances and that is saying something about the future Jack Bauer.

Daybreakers

14. Daybreakers

Great cast! Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe star In a film that takes place in the year 2019. A plague has turned almost everyone on the planet into vampires. Given that fact, what will they do for food when there are no humans left? Now that... that is truly scary!

The Hunger

15. The Hunger

Susan Sarandon plays a woman who falls in love with Catherine Deneuve's vampire. David Bowie also stars as a vamp in one of Tony Scott's first films.

Vampire's Kiss

16. Vampire's Kiss

Nicolas Cage gives one of his best turns as a man who is convinced he has been bitten by a vampire (Flashdance's Jennifer Beals). Watching Cage completely unravel is a comic (and scary) joy.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

17. Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Kristy Swanson stars as the titlular vampire killer in this comedy-horror flick that also featured Donald Sutherland and a surprisingly effective Luke Perry. If you love the TV show, then you owe everything to this film.

The Fault in Our Stars Extended Trailer: How to Tell Sad Stories

0
0

The extended The Fault in Our Stars trailer has landed and it truly has us keenly interested in this flick.

We adore how star Shailene Woodley starts the trailer and sets the tone with her narration… even with her backhanded compliment to one of our 21 '80s movies that defined the decade and its boom box scene, Say Anything.

Woodley stars as a teenager who was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 13. She has been fighting it ever since and she finds love in the most unlikely of places -- her support group. Ansel Elgort is in remission and he sees something in Woodley, something she doesn’t even see in herself.

The film is based on the book by John Green and is from the writers of 500 Days of Summer. Talk about a great pedigree!

The Fault in Our Stars lands June 6, and here are some other fantastic films that find a priceless way to handle one tough subject.

The Expendables 3 has released a pair of new photos from the highly anticipated third film in the franchise that started with those memorable The Expendables quotes

Of course, one of the new pics has to have the man who started the entire series, Sylvester Stallone. And it appears that Sly is back and ready for action.

The other photo is the one that truly caught our eye.

It features new-to-the-series Wesley Snipes ready to have a knife battle with franchise regular Jason Statham. Wonder who will win that fight?

Check out The Expendables 3 trailer and be sure to watch The Expendables online to see how it all started before the third film storms into theaters August 15 with newbies (to the series, of course) Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson and Antonio Banderas.

Godzilla Featurette: Reveling in that Roar!

0
0

One of the most iconic things about that iconic monster known as Godzilla is his roar.

In a new featurette from the movie, landing in theaters May 16, director Gareth Edwards helps explore how he and his team settled on the sound that their monster will make as it terrifies audiences anew.

We love on this clip how even one of the stars of the film gives us his best impression of the legendary roar, Bryan Cranston. And given what Cranston appears to be going through in that Godzilla trailer, he would know better than anyone the fear that the noise emits from those who hear it.

Filmmakers in the above clip admit that they are paying homage to the original 1954 feature film debut of the “king of the monsters” and doing their best to have fans of the first Godzilla film find their monster’s roar a fitting tribute. And as such, you can see why the film is  firmly a part of our must-see summer movies list for 2014.
