Walk of Shame Exclusive: James Marsden on What Elizabeth Banks Won't Do For Laughs

James Marsden stars in Walk of Shame as the man whose apartment Elizabeth Banks is leaving when her world turns completely upside down. As teased in the Walk of Shame trailer, Banks is a local LA news anchor who does everything she’s supposed to, and yet can’t get ahead in her job or in her personal life. Then, her friends encourage her to go out and let loose and that’s where she meets Marsden.

We caught up with Marsden for an exclusive chat where he talked about the comic brilliance of Banks and what sets her apart. Marsden also tells us what he thinks it is about the world of news anchors that is so ripe for humor. With his experience on Walk of Shame and his role as an anchor in Anchorman 2, his take is priceless.

James Marsden Elizabeth Banks Walk of Shame

Movie Fanatic: What was it about Walk of Shame that had you?

James Marsden: It was less the story than I knew Elizabeth for a long time and I knew Steven Brill, the writer-director for a long time. When I did the read-through for Anchorman 2, Adam McKay had all his writer and director friends there and Steve was in the audience. When I caught up with him, he said he thought I’d be great for the role in Walk of Shame. I read the script and Elizabeth called me and said that I had to do it. And I wanted to work with her for years. It was like getting together with your family and making a movie. I’ve always been a huge fan of Elizabeth’s comedic talent. I think she is one of our best. She’s one of these actresses that could get roles based solely on her looks, but she’s clearly so talented as a dramatic and comedic actress. We’d talk about finding something fun to do over the years and this came together.

Movie Fanatic: I think Elizabeth is a great dramatic actress, which is seen in the Hunger Games movies (watch Catching Fire online). But she is so funny. Just watch her in 30 Rock or any of her movie comedies and that’s present. What did you see working with her firsthand that struck you about her comedic abilities?

James Marsden: She’s got confidence enough to make fun of herself. She doesn’t take herself too seriously. She’s not afraid of having her hair look messed up for a laugh. She is great at making huge comedic observations about humanity. She’s one of these comediennes trapped in a beautiful person’s body. That’s it. It comes from a real intelligence. She gets what’s funny about being human. She’s great at looking utterly shabby and not looking like a superstar -- and in the process, she looks like a superstar. That’s why she’s great.

Movie Fanatic: That scene of you two getting together, it’s kind of a montage of various things that are utterly hilarious. There had to be a ton of improv in that. Was that a free-for-all? Was it scripted? How did it work?

James Marsden: I’ve known Steve for a long time and he wrote the script as well. And he was like, “I’m not going to waste my time writing specifics on paper for that scene.” [Laughs] It somehow worked! Hiring Elizabeth and me, he thought we’d find the funny stuff. He allotted plenty of time to do it. We filmed it over a day and a half. It was a playground. I have not seen the movie yet, so I don’t know what made it in it. I know I was in a dress at one point. I know I was playing guitar. I know she had a knife at some point.

Walk of Shame Banner

Movie Fanatic: Those all made it in! As did kissing with pizza!

James Marsden: Oh yeah [laughs], that was all part of running around that apartment for a day and a half! That’s what's great about having a past history with Elizabeth. You can get there with people you don’t know because you’re acting. But, it’s always nice to do that with someone you know well and that you know your sensibilities are aligned. It makes it more fun and easier and makes it fun for the audience.

Movie Fanatic: I’m curious to get your take on something. With Anchorman 2 and now Walk of Shame, you’ve been a part of two movies that make comedy out of news anchors. What is it about that field and that world that is so ripe for comedy?

James Marsden: I wonder if it’s because they have to act to a certain code. They have parameters that are kind of narrow. They are delivering the news and have to have a certain personality, but they have to be serious at the same time. It can come off as somewhat artificial. The way they come back from a clip and have to chuckle about it [laughs]. There’s something that is so transparent about them that you can tell when they put on a fake face. It makes it an easy target.

DreamWorks Animation has released a terrific featurette from How to Train Your Dragon 2 that explores how the world of Berk has changed in the five years since How to Train Your Dragon.

The clip features cast members, including Jay Baruchel and director Dean DuBlois -- as well as Gerard Butler -- commenting on this evolving landscape that has been clearly changed due to Hiccup (Baruchel) and Toothless' touching dragon-human connection. Dragons are a huge part of their lives now, and that ought to change a few things.

As seen in this How to Train Your Dragon 2 clip, they even play together in Quidditch-type games!

How to Train Your Dragon 2 hits theaters June 13 and also features the return of Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Craig Ferguson and America Ferrera. It also adds Cate Blanchett as Hiccup’s mom!

The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Jamie Foxx & Dane DeHaan Dish Joys of Villainy

$

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 truly features two villains: Jamie Foxx as Electro and Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn/Green Goblin. Yes, there are three, but Paul Giamatti’s Rhino is more in the film as a set-up for the upcoming Sinister Six movie. Foxx and DeHaan are talking about their villainous adventure, and as both grew up huge fans of Spider-Man, they were the perfect people to talk about what it is that sets Spidey apart from other superheroes.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Electro Harry Osborn

“It’s like Coca-Cola or Nike,” Foxx said.

“He’s the only superhero in high school. He’s a kid. And you see kids wanting to see Spider-Man because of that, and parents comfortable taking kids to see Spider-Man where they might not with a more grown-up superhero story.”

Foxx recalled being glued to The Electric Company, solely because you never knew when the webbed wonder would appear.

“There were only three networks at that time, plus PBS made a fourth. But to see a superhero on TV was crazy! You only saw each show once. You didn’t have YouTube or anything like that, so when Spidey came on, you came running,” Foxx said and laughed.

“Back then, I thought, ‘How did they DO those crazy web effects?’ Now you know that it’s just a pile or ropes. But, that was the first time you saw a superhero who wasn’t animated and who seemed to live and breathe.”

DeHaan plays a character in Osborn who takes control of Oscorp when his father Norman passes away. He also learns that he has the same disease that eventually killed his father. For DeHaan, it was an interesting challenge to not only play a person slowly becoming a villain, but someone who is suffering from an ailment that doesn’t exist!

“My character suffers from a made-up disease. Retro-viral hyperplasia is infectious and degenerative, and that just doesn’t exist. There’s no such thing as that in the world,” DeHaan said. “I looked into how it might be categorized and what symptoms it might exhibit, but it’s fictional. There’s nothing really like it.”

DeHaan found an interesting challenge to playing Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He is a longtime friend of Peter Parker’s and it’s not like he is the Green Goblin right off the bat.

“It was always that he was Harry at the beginning and the Goblin at the end. Harry is born into extreme wealth and power. He’s literally the richest kid in the world. He’s always been able to buy everything he wants. In that way, he has no problems. He can buy his own happiness,” DeHaan said.

“Then he’s told, ‘You’re dying.’ All of a sudden there’s no solution to that problem. He can’t buy his life. And in some way, I see his turning into the Goblin as this giant temper tantrum. That’s where the anger comes from, and that’s why his descent feels so accelerated.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Electro and Spider-Man

Foxx portrays Electro (who begins the movie as Maxwell) and when it came to where he found his inspiration for the part of the electrified villain, his source should surprise.

“I looked at Amadeus a lot. Salieri is jealous and covetous, and that’s basically what Maxwell is. He covets. He doesn’t hate Spider-Man. He just wants people to look at him the way they look at Spidey,” Foxx said.

“I watched Clint Eastwood to get the voice where it needs to be, that low menace. I study performances like that, just for the actual mechanics of the character.”

Given that most of what these two supremely talented actors filmed involved appearing in front of green screens, we wondered what their reaction was to seeing the final product.

“It’s weird. People don’t know that it’s actually me in a kind of blue silicone skin. Imagine me dipped in blue candle wax. The blue becomes a blue screen, like it would be with a CG screen, and the effects get added on top of that. Towards the end, it gets a little more CG heavy, but most of the time, it’s me or my stunt double in an actual blue suit,” Foxx admitted.

DeHaan, a veteran of indie movies and the stage, found it supremely profound. “It’s the coolest thing ever. The first trilogy was coming out when I was a kid and I’ve always loved Spider-Man movies,” DeHaan said. “To be a part of one is kind of a mind-blowing experience. And seeing it when it’s done, seeing how cool they can make us look in post, it’s kind of hard to comprehend.”

Foxx is thrilled to truly be the first African-American playing a villain in a superhero movie. But, he cautions that we’ve come so far that at this point he hopes it’s more about the actor and not their color. “When you eat pizza, do you say, ‘Mmm, I’m eating this Italian pizza?’ You don’t. One day, I want the artistic world to be just like eating pizza. You don’t even think about it anymore, you just watch your favorite actor and actress get down and do their thing,” Foxx said.

“We’re getting to that point where it’s just about the talent. Still, it feels good to be an African-American and get these kinds of parts.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Review: Caught in a Growing Web

$
0
0

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swings into theaters as the second chapter in director Marc Webb's quartet of films chronicling the adventures of the webbed wonder.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Promo Shot

The best thing about the film is Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and his onscreen chemistry with Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy. They are electric, which is what's so Amazing about this Spidey story. Most real life couples don't pop on screen!

And their relationship evolves in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as it is not a given that Parker and Stacy will stay together. Peter is haunted by his promise to Gwen’s dad at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man. As he said in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer, people he cares about get hurt and that is part of the cost of being a hero to so many.

He clearly doesn’t want Gwen to fall to peril and yet, he cannot stay away. You feel the true pull of whether he should keep fighting crime and the overall personal cost to him and those he holds dear. On that note, Peter is clearly still affected by the death of his uncle -- who also perished in the first film. See, people around him keep dying!

But, he loves being Spider-Man and that is something that we treasure about the Webb films. Garfield and the helmer get it. There is a joy of life feeling to the character in these films that also includes his trademark humorous quips as he toys with those he entangles while fighting crime.

As the film’s tagline says, “His greatest battle begins.” And that comes in the form of Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan. Foxx is Electro and DeHaan eventually becomes Green Goblin. Foxx starts the films as Max Dillon and DeHaan is Harry Osborn, Peter’s oldest friend. Through a series of superhero movie-type accidents and ailments, these two become our main villains. Sure, Paul Giamatti is the Rhino, but he more serves as a bookend to this film and is truly set up for a larger role in later films or for sure in the Sinister Six movie.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Andrew Garfield Emma Stone

Electro and Green Goblin have their reasons for wanting Spidey’s head. That is clearly laid out and their battles are epic, and in 3D often come right at you.

If there is any issue with the film it is that it is a tad too long and that in hindsight, there might have been too many chefs in the writing kitchen. With screenplay credits totaling three and “screen story” credits totaling four, the audience can feel the plot wander at times. But, the fantastic thing about Webb is that he never loses sight of where he is going. And in that vein…

What people need to keep in mind  watching the film, our The Amazing Spider-Man 2 review has to state, is that this is the second chapter of an established four chapter saga. With The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and 4 already green lit, we are only halfway there -- by the end of this film. As such, the drama seen on screen must be perceived as part of a much larger picture.

Get ready for the epic battle and watch The Amazing Spider-Man online.

Did you notice that, although he lost the use of his legs in X-Men: First Class, James McAvoy's Professor X manages to walk a bit in the X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer?

Well, a new clip from X-Men: Days of Future Past explains that and more. The clip focuses on McAvoy's Professor X and Michael Fassbender's Magneto. We love the line that McAvoy delivers about Fassbender "abandoning" them.

That fact clearly sets up how difficult it is going to be for Hugh Jackman's Wolverine to get these guys to work together. As we know from the impressive marketing campaign for the film, the future depends on it.

X-Men: Days of Future Past lands in theaters May 23. To get ready for that uniting of two sets of stellar casts, watch X-Men online and watch X-Men: First Class online.

Walk of Shame Review: Elizabeth Banks Tries Her Best

$
0
0

Elizabeth Banks may talk a walk of shame after a one night stand in Walk of Shame, but she might have the same feeling when audiences leave the theater watching her latest. Banks is a Los Angeles news anchor who is up for a job with the network. Upon learning she didn’t get the job, she is convinced by her friends to abandon her straight-laced nature and party like a rock star. The fact that her fiance has moved out of their home doesn't hurt their efforts to get her to throw back (quite) a few.

Elizabeth Banks Stars in Walk of Shame

The issue, and the crux of the comedy, is that after hooking up with James Marsden, she awakes in the middle of the night with one heck of a hangover -- and a voicemail from her producer saying that she is still up for the job. The network still wants her, and she just needs to wow them during her next evening broadcast.

Through a series of silly moments -- teased in the Walk of Shame trailer -- Banks exits Marsden’s apartment and wants to get home, cleaned up and sobered up for her big day. The only issue, her car is towed and she left her purse and her phone in Marsden's home. Staring at the apartment building directory, she realizes she doesn’t know his name.

And she’s off to battle the rough and tumble streets of Los Angeles trying desperately to get home. She gets into all sorts of situations, all of course wearing the yellow micro mini skirt from her big night out that has police thinking she’s a hooker. Hoodlums even believe she is one too and they want her to get away from them before she attracts the aforementioned cops and they discover what they’re doing is illegal.

All in all, Walk of Shame is a one-note joke movie that manages to stretch it out over 90 minutes. It tries to get in a few “believe in yourself” and “don’t judge a book by its cover” messages while she traverses the City of Angels’ streets.

Banks is brilliant and does the best she can with Steven Brill’s script (he also directed). She is a true comic tour de force and there is nothing she won’t do with this flimsy premise to try to get a laugh -- and she does get a few. But, the film often exploits stereotypes of male/female relationships, race and even what a modern woman is to get those chuckles.

Our Walk of Shame review can recommend this film for fans of Banks -- but that is it. She commands every inch of the screen. But even the greatest comics in the world need a solid script in order to have a funny film work. And unfortunately Banks does not have it with Walk of Shame

11. Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw in X-Men: First Class

Kevin Bacon could not have had a more important role in the X-Men universe. He was integral in the splitting of the friendship of Magneto and Professor X. He started the Cuban Missle Crsis for goodness sakes! And... Bacon delivered the role as only he can -- which was exactly the tone that Shaw needed.

Labor Day DVD Review: Love Finds a Way

Labor Day is the latest flick from filmmaker Jason Reitman, who has more than scored in his work from Juno to Up in the Air. As Labor Day lands on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download, the helmer explores the unlikely romance that develops between Josh Brolin’ escaped con and Kate Winslet’s lonely single mother.

Labor Day DVD

Labor Day largely works, as we stated in our theatrical Labor Day review. The things that truly make this flick worthy are the performances of Brolin and Winslet. But, it is the most oddly compelling love story we’ve seen in some time.

Brolin is an escaped convict. He leaped out of a second story window in a jail hospital and limps into Winslet’s life. She is doing her best to raise a teenage son and when their worlds collide, it is due to Brolin, in a sense, taking her and her son hostage while he waits for the heat to die down as cops search their small New England town for him.

Winslet plays the role of scorned mother well. And her son Henry (played by an outstanding Gattlin Griffith) is doing his best to be the man of the house as his mother often has trouble even leaving their home. But it is on this fateful day when they take their once a month visit to the store, Brolin is waiting for them and their lives will change forever.

Over the course of Labor Day, Winslet and Brolin slowly fall in love -- in spite of the odds against them.

Labor Day Josh Brolin Kate Winslet

This is truly Reitman’s baby and it clearly has his loving touch all over it. When it comes to the bonus features, we have to start with the audio commentary track with Reitman, his DP Eric Steelberg and his first assistant director/co-producer Jason Blumenfeld. It’s fascinating to see their various takes on this film that would be a tough sell without their collective talent at putting it together.

The making of doc, End of Summer: Making Labor Day, also gives further insight into the filmmaking process of Reitman and his team and shows how extraordinarily gifted the man is. And we have a feeling with his filmography so far, this man is just getting started.

You can check out the film right now -- watch Labor Day online.

Weekend Movie Preview: May 2, 2014

The weekend movie preview this first weekend of May, and the true kick off of the summer movie season, is all about the webbed wonder. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 finally hits theaters and Andrew Garfield is back in action in the follow up to his blockbuster first installment.

Also in theaters is the Elizabeth Banks starring comedy Walk of Shame. Who do you think will win the weekend?!

The Amazing Spider-Man 2: We kind of liked this sequel to Marc Webb's reboot of the Spider-Man franchise. It's not a perfect movie. But, the action sequences are top notch and there is something truly special about both Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy. As our The Amazing Spider-Man 2 review points out, if you go in thinking that this is the second chapter of a four chapter series, you will be much happier with what you witness. As a stand-alone movie it works well too. Villains Electro (Jamie Foxx) and Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan) bring the badness to the flick and elevate this above your go-through-the-motions superhero sequel

Walk of Shame: Banks is a supremely talented comic actress. But, even she can't save this lackluster comedy from its own ills. Banks is a LA news anchor who hooks up with James Marsden. When she leaves his apartment in the dead of night on the titular journey, all sorts of hell comes her way while she tries to get home. Stereotypes abound, as we report in our Walk of Shame review, and unfortunately humor does not. But, Banks does her best and for her fans... that is enough.

Feel like staying in this weekend? Several new titles have landed on digital download. Watch The Legend of Hercules online or watch Philomena online

And in honor of Spidey's return to theaters... check out our entire gallery of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 stills.

Brett Ratner, who has Hercules coming soon, is still attached to direct and has been all about Beverly Hills Cop 4 since directing Murphy in Tower Heist a few years back.

Writing the script is a talented tandem of Andre Nemec and Josh Applebaum, who did a fantastic job with Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol.

The first clip from Godzilla has arrived and it goes deeper into that great line about man and nature first shown in the Godzilla trailer.

The scene features Ken Watanabe’s Japanese scientist (who is an expert on all things nuclear-altered monsters) talking with David Strathairn’s Admiral Senz. We love Watanabe’s take on the line that gave us chills in the teaser.

The clip continues with Watanabe telling the military man that our best bet for defeating the MOTU is to let Godzilla do it. Then the clip closes with a tease to the fight between those two gargantuan beasts.

Godzilla lands in theaters May 16 and also stars Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche and Sally Hawkins.

As the calendar has turned from April to May, we could not be more thrilled because that means we can now see May 23 circled -- the date X-Men: Days of Future Past gets released.

And hot off that amazing X-Men: Days of Future Past clip showing off Mystique’s fighting skills, we have a new TV trailer that shows off another female wonder in this world. The trailer gives us a little bit of new footage, but it’s the never-before-seen moment towards the middle that makes this teaser worth its weight in gold.

It’s a fantastic bit with a little girl playing princess and Wolverine, who clearly is entertained by her royal games.

There are some theories that the little girl is Scarlet Witch (because we know that Evan Peters is Quicksilver in this X-Men film). But, we happen to know that, in fact, the little girl is the younger sister of the twin sister of Quicksilver. Wolverine X-Men: Days of Future Past

We've got the first photo of actor Peter Mayhew back in the Chewbacca suit that made the character both a sci-fi and pop culture icon!

During a costume test as J.J. Abrams gets ready to start production on his film after the announcement of the Star Wars: Episode VII cast, Disney CEO Bob Iger took an Instagram photo for the Star Wars page and this furry fellow popped his head in.

It was Mayhew who was even in the news recently for the franchise that made him famous for reasons other than the new film. Mayhew provided us with those hilarious Star Wars behind-the-scenes photos that have never been released!

We are too pleased that's he back, of course, as well as Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.

More Women Will Be Cast

2. More Women Will Be Cast

Some had a problem with Abrams' casting in that there was a lack of female roles beyond Carrie Fisher and newcomer Daisy Ridley. Do not forget that this is just the main cast. This story is not going to solely be focused on Leia, Han, Luke AND Ridley's character. There is an opportunity to have a much vaster cast as this thing fills out. With heroes such as Ripley, Sarah Connor and others serving as strong female sci-fi idols since the original trilogy arrived, there HAS to be more Force-inhabiting female characters coming.

Now Han Solo Is In -- Kill Him Off!

3. Now Han Solo Is In -- Kill Him Off!

Let Ford do his hero thing for 80 minutes. Then, simultaneously give fans and the legacy of Han Solo a righteous salute and knock him off at the end of Star Wars: Episode VII. That catapults his children (of which we believe Ridley is one) to seek Jedi (with Leia as mom and Luke as uncle, tell me The Force is not strong with them) justice in Episode VIII and Episode IX.

Need Villain Who Rivals Vader -- Won’t Be Easy

4. Need Villain Who Rivals Vader -- Won’t Be Easy

Adam Driver has a lot of people wondering how deeply he could channel evil as the villain of Episode VII. He's no Darth Vader. Audiences will know that going in. But that said, he has generated such hate from viewers of Girls that expanding that exponentially in Abrams' film will not be a problem. At. All.

Score Must Embrace the Old While Giving Us The New

5. Score Must Embrace the Old While Giving Us The New

Composer John Williams achieved music score icon status with his Star Wars score -- whether the theme song or the Darth Vader theme, it doesn't matter. You know each song by its first notes. And Williams achieved that with the operatic theme of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. We believe he can do it again, inspired by a new generation of Star Wars warriors.

Effects That Push Boundaries

7. Effects That Push Boundaries

Abrams gave us some impressive sci-fi landscapes in Star Trek and his other films, such as Super 8. While watching Star Wars: Episode VII, we want to have our jaws drop. With the technology available today and expectations never higher for a film in recent memory, this flick needs to be a feast for the ears, eyes and heart.

Kasdan's Power with Character

8. Kasdan's Power with Character

Our favorite Star Wars film is The Empire Strikes Back: Lawrence Kasdan penned that classic and to hear that he is co-writing Star Wars: Episode VII with Abrams is one of the best moves this new trilogy has made. The way he writes characters that move a story along with heart-racing action sequences... let's just say our hopes are high.

Light Sabers, The Millennium Falcon & More!

9. Light Sabers, The Millennium Falcon & More!

Clearly certain things will be in the new trilogy including our weapon of choice: light sabers. But, we also expect to see the Millennium Falcon, blasters, AT-ATs, land speeders and more fan favorites.

Matt Damon Admits Up for Being Bourne Again

$

So we know that Jeremy Renner will return for a Bourne Legacy sequel. And we’ve all heard those rumors that one day Matt Damon will return to the role and we'll perhaps even have both Renner and Damon in the same movie.

Matt Damon is Jason Bourne

Today, we have word from Damon himself that even though he feels that uttering those The Bourne Ultimatum quotes was a great way to close out the character, coming back to the Bourne world is always a possibility.

"It felt like such a good way to end it the last time. But having said that, I love that character… and I’d love to see what happened to him," Damon said to CNBC.

The key is Damon’s director for those first few Bourne films, Paul Greengrass. The superstar doesn’t want to play the superspy again without the man who made the first few film versions in which the Robert Ludlum fictional character became a movie icon.

So, who knows if Damon will return? I mean, there is no reason to think that Greengrass could not come back to the franchise he started. But then again... in Hollywood, you never know.

Why not head back to the beginning and see how it all started for Greengrass and Damon and watch The Bourne Identity online

Marc Webb Updates Where The Amazing Spider-Man 3 & Sinister Six Go

$

First of all, what we are about to report contains major spoilers when it comes to how things went down in The Amazing Spider-Man 2! The box office champ from last weekend has fans eagerly awaiting The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and thanks to those Sinister Six end credit scenes, we are also wondering how that will fit in.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Emma Stone Gwen Stacy

So once again… do not read on if you have not seen The Amazing Spider-Man 2 or don't want to know what happens!

At the end of the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man, tragedy strikes Peter Parker/Spider-Man (again). The hero who lost his father and mother, then his uncle, lost the love of his life, Gwen Stacy. It was at the hands of Green Goblin, just like it was in that famous 1970s comic book, so fans should not have been surprised.

But, given how strongly actors Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone played those parts, there was a part of us in denial that their characters could wind up having the love affair of a lifetime. Of course as Dane DeHaan swept in as Green Goblin and dropped her from that height, there was no way to save her.

Director Marc Webb is addressing how Parker moves forward without his beloved, and he also chimes in about that Sinister Six spin-off that was teased at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. "Will Peter Parker love again? When relationships end, it's very difficult to imagine emerging from that. I think that’s, emotionally, where he's going to start off in the next movie," Webb told Grantland.

Now, what about that sequence that introduces the Sinister Six? Among the villainous suits that were teased beyond Rhino and Green Goblin who were actually in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, we also saw Doc Ock and Vulture suits, and a few others!

Webb is working closely with the team behind The Sinister Six to ensure congruency between the films.

"I had to talk to Drew Goddard (writer-director of The Sinister Six) and make sure these things were going to be played out in the future universe. There are some very specific plans, for example, for Doc Ock and for Vulture -- or the man in the hat at the end of the first movie. All those things emerge with varying degrees of emphasis."

Although that “man in the hat” was also in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, his identity was never really revealed. But, if you know anything about the Sinister Six and the world of Spider-Man, it is clear now that he is Gustav Fiers, also known as "The Gentleman." He’s the guy who gets the Sinister Six together.

Check out these photo stills of the various The Sinister Six suits that were teased at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. And watch The Amazing Spider-Man online to see how this series got going.
