Jersey Boys Featurette: Why Clint Eastwood Chose to Direct

0
0

Warner Bros. has released a behind-the-scenes featurette for Clint Eastwood’s next directorial effort, Jersey Boys. Now, some may wonder why Eastwood is tackling a musical, and he explores that in the below featurette.

But, if you know the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, it makes perfect sense.

As teased in the Jersey Boys trailer, this is the story of the boys from the projects of Newark, New Jersey, who became the biggest pop stars in the world. Their tale was captured in the Tony Award-winning musical, and now it’s up to Eastwood to bring it to the big screen.

And as huge Christopher Walken fans, we at Movie Fanatic are eager to see his take on the mobster who had a “slight” hand in Valli’s success. And we love Walken’s comments in the above featurette.

Jersey Boys lands in cinemas June 20.

The November Man Trailer: Pierce Brosnan is Back in Action!

0

Pierce Brosnan is back in action playing a spy in The November Man for the first time since he walked away from being James Bond (one of our 13 Top movie spies)!

Brosnan plays a retired spook who is called back into service by his friend to protect a witness (played by Olga Kurylenko).

The film’s first trailer has premiered and to say it’s explosive is a gross understatement.

The title of the film comes from Brosnan’s ex-CIA agent’s code name. He is “The November Man,” and since he quit the agency , he’s been living the quiet life in Switzerland.

The assignment is not as easy as it seems (is it ever?) and he begins to wonder whether his protégé and friend (played by Luke Bracey – recently seen in that The Best of Me trailer) is playing him.

Look for the spy thriller in theaters August 27.

Relativity has also released a series of stills from the film. Click through and witness the return of Brosnan to action!

Since walking away from being Bond, we haven't seen Brosnan do action like we do in The November Man.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes TV Trailer: Kill Every Last One of Them

Hot on the heels of that awesome Dawn of the Planet of the Apes poster, a new Dawn of the Planet of the Apes TV spot has landed and its title is Bear Hunt.

In the opening moments of the below teaser, we see our favorite apes, well, on a bear hunt! Now, if these beasts can take down a bear like it’s nothing, you can imagine what they can do to humans.

That is the crux of the conflict in this sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes. We have two types of thinking: Those who think we can live with the apes (Keri Russell, Jason Clarke) and those who want to wipe them off the face of the planet (Gary Oldman).

Guess who wins out? And in that case, guess who’s gonna win the war? Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Photo Still

Isn’t that why we watch?!

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes lands July 11, and to get ready, watch Rise of the Planet of the Apes online to see how this entire madness got started!

You know, humans pretty much should throw in the towel when the apes master the art of shooting a shotgun!

Lucy TV Spot: Scarlett Johansson Unlocks Her Brain, Craziness Ensues

The first TV trailer for Lucy has debuted, starring Scarlett Johansson as a woman who has found the ability to unlock the full potential of her brain power.

See, Lucy is an unwilling drug mule, and when drugs are surgically inserted into her body and they start leaking, she turns almost super human.

From that first Lucy trailer, this film has been all over our radar. Besson is a fantastic filmmaker who has been writing and producing more than he's been directing. Films such as The Fifth Element and The Professional are favorites of Movie Fanatic, and it's fantastic to see him inspired to write and direct again.

Check out our Luc Besson exclusive interview to see what it was about this story that got him helming again!

Lucy arrives in theaters July 25, and until then, catch up on the brilliance of Besson and watch The Fifth Element online

The Purge Anarchy Trailer: People Like Us Don’t Survive Tonight

When The Purge landed starring Ethan Hawke, it was a surprise hit. And given the premise of the film where one night a year, America revokes all its laws and all crimes are legal (including murder) -- one can see why that story was just the tip of The Purge iceberg.

The Purge: Anarchy greatly widens the scope. Where the Hawke-centric story dealt with one family in one house and how they dealt with the night of horror and mayhem, this time out, we see the anarchy across an entire city.

As teased in the latest The Purge: Anarchy trailer, things don’t work out really well for average folks on this one night a year of insanity.

But, Frank Grillo plays a man on a mission. He’s out to get justice for the death of his son. But, along the way, he meets some people in dire need of help. And… he helps them and that proves to be one bad idea.

The Purge: Anarchy lands July 18 and also stars Michael K. Williams, Zach Gilford, Kiele Sanchez and Carmen Ejogo.

To get up to speed on the madness, watch The Purge online

Ant-Man Finally Gets a Director: Who Is It?

Things appear to be back on track for the Ant-Man movie after Edgar Wright quit the project over creative differences.

Many directors’ names were mentioned for the spot in the following weeks, and now Marvel has settled on one with another who was considered for the job and hired as writer.

Ant-Man Logo

Ant-Man will be directed by Peyton Reed and the script re-write will come from the man who gave us those Anchorman quotes, Adam McKay -- who just last week was rumored to be up for the top job!

Reed, after his work helming comedies such as The Break Up, might seem like an usual choice. But, then again, so was Wright. And here’s something you might not know about Reed… he was hired to helm the first The Fantastic Four, before Tim Story came along and helmed that superhero flick.

And with McKay re-writing the screenplay, one can see that between him and Reed, this is a film that will have humor in it. And with Paul Rudd signed to star, that is a good thing. Michael Douglas is also in the cast, as are Evangeline Lilly and Michael Pena.

Looks like Ant-Man is still on track for that July 17, 2015 release date.

Ghostbusters: 30 Years of Who You Gonna Call!

As we previously reported, the 30th anniversary of Ghostbusters will be celebrated with a remastered theatrical release over Labor Day weekend, followed by a collector’s edition Blu-Ray set.

Ghostbusters Photo

But, what you may not know is that June 8, 1984 is the actual day, 30 years ago yesterday, that Ghostbusters arrived on screens and became a pop culture icon.

Ghostbusters had a unique journey to the screen.

The script by the late Harold Ramis and Dan Aykoyd was completed in 1982 and was originally intended for those two, with John Belushi. But, then sadly, he passed away.

The Ghostbusters script re-worked with Eddie Murphy and John Candy in mind -- but those two could never make their schedules work to appear in the Ivan Reitman directed flick.

It’s funny how fate works, because I don’t think we’d have the Ghostbusters we got if it wasn’t for the tandem of Bill Murray, Aykroyd, Ramos and Ernie Hudson. That quartet proved to be the magic pieces to the puzzle -- along with supporting help from Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts and Rick Moranis -- to turn this crazy idea about a ghost-chasing business into the legend it became.

To celebrate 30 years of our favorite Ghostbusters quotes, we present the below slideshow. Click through and check out the most memorable moments from one of the most memorable movies to come out of the 80s.

And why not revisit that masterpiece and watch Ghostbusters online!

The Rover: Go Behind-the-Scenes with Robert Pattinson

The Rover has released a behind-the-scenes video that takes us inside the haunting reality that is the post-apocalyptic world that finds Guy Pearce making the life of Robert Pattinson utterly miserable.

Well, if you watch The Rover trailer, Pattinson kind of had it coming!

Pattinson (one of our 13 actors who could be Indiana Jones) is part of a gang that has just ripped off Pearce and taken something besides his car that he truly needs. How badly does he need it? Enough to torture, mane and kill Pattinson!

The Rover finds a world that is a decade removed from the utter dissolving of society. The film takes place in the already lawless Australian Outback, which only further adds to the sense of desperation and dangerous feel of The Rover.

The Rover hits theaters June 13 in New York and LA, before opening wide June 20.

Robocop Exclusive: Abbie Cornish Comes Full Circle

0
0

As a kid growing up in Australia, Abbie Cornish watched the Peter Weller-starring Robocop so often that she wore out the tape. Now, she’s appearing in the Joel Kinnaman-starring Robocop reboot and talked with Movie Fanatic exclusively about the film as it has landed on DVD and Blu-Ray.

RoboCop Joel Kinnaman and Abbie Cornish

As teased in the Robocop trailer, Cornish plays Kinnaman’s wife who, after her husband practically dies from a car bomb, has to give the OK to have his body placed inside the metallic frame that will have him patrolling the streets of Detroit as the titular character.

Movie Fanatic: What are your memories of the first Robocop?

Abbie Cornish: I remember it quite a lot because we had it on VHS and we played it over and over and over. I surprisingly remember a lot of it. Even though I was five or seven, I remember all the violence, the swearing! There were a couple of things that went right over my head, like the sexual references [laughs]. Some of the '80s adult humor, I just didn’t get. But, it didn’t matter. I really loved that film when I was a kid. It was fun. It was action packed. It would provoke your imagination about the future.

Movie Fanatic: What I liked about the remake that you’re a part of is that it is still so timely. When you first heard they were doing a Robocop remake, what was your first reaction, and then when you actually got the script, what were your impressions?

Abbie Cornish: I actually didn’t audition for this. Jose Padilha contacted me and gave me a rundown of what the film would be and what the character would entail, and I signed on to this before there was a script because of Jose. He’s such an incredible director. I would work with Jose on anything. To work with him on a film from my childhood and reboot something was exciting. I felt really lucky to get this gig. I’ve never done a movie like this before. It felt new. It felt different and I felt it was in the hands of the right guy. I knew that the film would come out political, social and it would come out with heart and soul.

Robocop Stars Abbie Cornish Joel Kinnaman

Movie Fanatic: You’ve seen Jose’s work and clearly you’re as impressed as I have been with this guy. Now that you have had that Jose Padilha experience, what is it about him that makes him so special?

Abbie Cornish: He comes to the work from a place that is very connected, very honest and very open and extremely collaborating. I love how much sharing and consideration he gave to the actors that he hired, how much freedom he gave everyone during the process. And he’s also just a lot of fun and gave us an easygoing environment to play in. It was truly special. I hope to work with him again soon.

Movie Fanatic: Can’t talk to you about Robocop and not talk about Joel Kinnaman. What huge shoes he had to fill from Peter Weller. But, he knocked it out of the park. What was the most special thing you found sharing time with Mr. Kinnaman?

Abbie Cornish: He wasn’t afraid to dive into this iconic character. The '80s version -- he’s truly an '80s version and there is no way you could remake that. So, in the new version it is about taking us into the future from now. In doing that, Joel was okay with exploring more contemporary sensitivities when it comes to his condition. What happens to a man when his body is put inside a machine?! What happens to his soul? Is he the technology or is Robocop about something bigger? Those are some concepts that are not easy to grasp.

Robocop DVD

Movie Fanatic: You played the video cassette over and over, as you said. Now that Robocop is out on DVD and Blu-Ray, there is going to be some little girl out there with her friends playing your movie over and over. Do you feel like you’ve come full circle in a way?

Abbie Cornish: I’d never quite thought of it like that. Yeah, I guess so. I like these links in life. It really is quite exponential [laughs]! It is like a little wormhole in a way.

Check out our Robocop DVD review and then head over and watch Robocop online

Dumb and Dumber To Poster: The Dogmobile Returns!

Dumb and Dumber To has released its first official poster, and yes, it’s exciting that Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are back. But, what is most striking for us in this first one-sheet from the highly anticipated, long-in-the-making sequel is the return of the… Dogmobile!

The poster’s arrival is also meant to tease the debut of the first Dumb and Dumber To trailer, which will premiere on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon tonight! We’ll bring it to you as soon as it’s live!

The first film gave us those unforgettable Dumb and Dumber quotes, and demand for a follow-up has been there for years. So, when filmmakers Peter and Bobby Farrelly announced they were doing a sequel, legions cheered.

What’s the story for Dumb and Dumber To? Lloyd and Harry head back out on the road (in the Dogmobile!) to find the son that Harry never knew he had.

The film also stars Kathleen Turner, Brady Bluhm, Rob Riggle and Rachel Melvin. Look for it November 14. In the meantime, watch Dumb and Dumber online and get all sorts of caught up.

Avatar Sequels: Sigourney Weaver Will Return!

0

When you hear the news that Sigourney Weaver will return for all three Avatar sequels, one thing is striking when you watch Avatar online. Her character died! But, according to James Cameron, that’s not going to let him get in the way of a working relationship that dates back decades.

Avatar Sigourney Weaver

“Sigourney and I have a long creative history, dating back to 1985 when we made Aliens. We’re good friends who’ve always worked well together, so it just feels right that she’s coming back for the Avatar sequels,” Weaver said.

Cameron then addressed the elephant in the room.

“Her character of Grace Augustine, as fans know, died in the first movie, so she’s playing a different and in many ways more challenging character in the upcoming films. We’re both looking forward to this new creative challenge, the latest chapter in our long and continuing collaboration.”

Weaver may not be “reprising” her Avatar role per se, but she recently said she’d be up for doing more Alien movies!

Check out our Avatar quotes and get ready for the first Avatar sequel to land in December 2016 with the final two landing in successive Decembers.

The first clip from Transformers: Age of Extinction has arrived and it features a tense conversation between our human villain, played Kelsey Grammer, and our hero, played by new to the franchise Mark Wahlberg.

Wonder how this one will play out?

As shown in that first Transformers: Age of Extinction trailer, Grammer is leading a government group who seeks to avoid another alien attack that resulted in the destruction of the city of Chiago in Transformers: Dark of the Moon. And as you see in the above clip, he will do anything to stop that from happening again -- even killing innocent people who get in his way.

Transformers: Age of Extinction lands in theaters everywhere July 27 and is the fourth Transformers movie from director Michael Bay. He has wisely added Wahlberg to the cast, as well as one of the finest actors of his generation in Stanley Tucci.

It is Zoe Saldana's Gamora who gets the Guardians of the Galaxy spotlight today!

As you can see in that brilliant Guardians of the Galaxy trailer, Gamora is just one fifth of the quintet that could save the universe. The others are Star Lord (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) and Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper).

The film arrives August 1 and is the first time that Marvel has introduced a new band of heroes since the guy you see when you watch Captain America: The First Avenger online
