Hitman Agent 47 Photo Compares Rupert Friend to Video Game Character

0
0

Fox has released a side-by-side image from the upcoming film Hitman: Agent 47 that shows its star, Rupert Friend, and the video game character that inspired the movie. It is stunning and you can check it out in the slideshow below, along with all our Hitman: Agent 47 stills.

The Hitman video game franchise landed in 2000 and has become one of the most popular of all-time. There was a 2007 film, starring Timothy Olyphant that too was based on the game, and that did OK.

Now, Fox is rebooting it with Friend in the lead and just judging by these first photos, and especially the side-by-side pic of Friend and the video game character, we’re already more excited for this version.

Friend is the title character, who is a genetically engineered assassin and look for the film to follow him tracing how he got that way -- and probably getting a little justice along the way.

Look for Hitman: Agent 47 in theaters February 27, 2015.

The Hobbit The Battle of the Five Armies: Peter Jackson Promises “Emotional Thriller”

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies director Peter Jackson came to Comic-Con with his cast (and brought The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies teaser trailer) and we caught up with the esteemed and Oscar-winning director as he shared his vision for the conclusion of his The Hobbit trilogy.

Peter Jackson Luke Evans The Hobbit The Desolation of Smaug

Of course, we had to start with the title change from The Hobbit: There and Back Again to what will be adorning marquees when the film lands December 17.

“The title change came about when we did an assembly of the third movie, last year. As we were cutting the second movie, we also put a version of the third movie together, just so that we could watch a rough thing of it. And I watched it last year and knew it had to be called The Battle of the Five Armies. That was just the right title for it,” Jackson admitted.

“So, when we were at the junket for The Desolation of Smaug in Berlin, I pulled the Warner Bros. people aside and said, ‘Listen, we don’t have to discuss it now, but when you see the movie, which we’ll show you when we’ve got a proper cut in a few months time, just be warned that I’m going to change the name to The Battle of the Five Armies.’ They saw the movie and agreed. There was no debate about it.”

Jackson then explained specifically why the change was necessary. “The There and Back Again title worked when there was two movies, but now there’s three,” he added.

The director who knows Middle Earth better than anyone then explained how, like The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit trilogy was shot and edited for people to take it as one great and fantastical journey.

“The progression of the tone from the first Hobbit to this one is what you would expect it to be. It is what you would anticipate from seeing the first two. It starts at a certain point of innocence and naivety, and things are starting to get darker and darker, and the screws are getting tighter. By the time we are done with this film, which is going to be the most emotional and tense of the three... I think it’s my favorite of the three,” Jackson said.

Jackson also promised that The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies will compel from its opening moment through the closing credits. And most importantly, it will flow into the trilogy that closed with what you see when you watch The Return of the King online.

“It’s got a nice thriller pace to it. When you get to the end of it, I think it’s going to feel like the right time to hand it over to The Fellowship of the Ring. It will feel like it’s gone on that journey. I’ve always been aware of it being a six-film set,” Jackson said.

The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies

“One day, long after all of this is all over, all that’s ever going to exist in the world is these movies, as a six-film series. That’s how future generations are going to think of them.”

When one mentions the Oscar-winning Return of the King, you cannot talk about the film without that climactic and explosive battle scene. With the word “battle” in the title of his final The Hobbit trilogy movie, Jackson addresses the pressure to follow up that Return of the King battle scene with one even more riveting.

“When they get into combat, the storyline is still evolving. Things happen in the middle of the battle that change the storyline of certain characters, and there’s a lot to follow it. It’s going to go into the battle with lots of tension,” Jackson said.

“The thing with battles is that you can kill off one or two people, and God knows, there’s a few of them that need to get killed off. So, we could possibly have characters dying in this film. We can afford to have some emotion that we haven’t seen in The Hobbit yet. We certainly crank it up in this one.”

As Sony readies to release The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on DVD, they have news that they have green lit a female-led spin-off of the webbed wonder franchise.

The Amazing Spider-Man Logo

Lisa Joy Nolan (yes, The Dark Knight writer Jonathan Nolan’s wife) has been hired to pen a screenplay that focuses on one of the female characters in the Spider-Man universe. It could be Black Cat (teased with a small role by Felicity Jones in The Amazing Spider-Man 2), or perhaps Spider-Woman or Silver Stable.

We’re already expecting a Sinister Six spin-off in 2016, so as we previously reported, Sony’s extension of the Spider-Man universe looks like it is expanding even further.

This also arrives as news comes that Ghostbusters 3 will reboot with an all female cast!

Made in America DVD Review: Jay-Z & Ron Howard Are a Dream Team

0

Ron Howard and Jay-Z may seem like an odd pair, but the two have joined forces on a film, Made in America, that is nothing short of extraordinary.

Made in America Blu-Ray

Jay-Z started the Made in America festival that brings together acts from all walks of life to show the power of unity through music. Howard was tapped to bring his camera long and document the effort to get the fest off the ground and then to capture the performances themselves, as well as the behind-the-scenes moments that all add up to something musically and culturally magical.

Made in America is out now on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download and features Howard’s look at the performances as wide ranging as headliner Jay-Z, and also Pearl Jam, Kanye West, Run-D.M.C., Santigold, Jill Scott, Gary Clark Jr. D’Angelo, Dirty Projectors, The Hives, Rita Ora, Passion Pitt and Skrillex.

Howard also turns his camera on the musicians and organizers in a series of interviews that brilliantly shed light on the entire experience. After watching Made in America, we are beyond thrilled at the news that Howard will embark on a documentary that chronicles the short, but powerful, touring life of The Beatles. Howard’s documentarian skills are as powerful as those that have given him an Oscar for Best Director for his narrative work.

Made in America Ron Howard Jay-Z

Jay-Z and Howard are completely in synch in their message and the means with which they get it across. As the story builds towards the concert, it is a fascinating study in how someone as powerful as Jay-Z still has to break down walls in order to do something that will clearly benefit society. Might we say, that Made in America is as inspiring and educational as it is entertaining.

Check out the Made in America trailer, and we’re sure you’ll want to watch Made in America online. By the film’s closing credits, you’ll see first hand how this singular celebration of music can and will change people’s lives.

A video from the Michigan set of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice has arrived and it certainly confirms something that was said when it was announced that Ben Affleck was Batman. As suspected, he is an older and wiser Bruce Wayne/Dark Knight.

The video below is shaky, sure, but it is fascinating to see Affleck as Bruce Wayne.

We’ve seen the Affleck as Batman photo and that works big time for us. Now that we’ve seen the other side of that character’s coin, we have to say those 5 reasons Ben Affleck will work as Batman were spot-on.

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice lands May 6, 2016 and brings back Henry Cavill as Superman, with Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and the return of Amy Adams as Lois Lane.

Captain America The Winter Soldier Deleted Scene: Maria Hill Is Tested

It’s a Marvel deleted scenes week with that awesome The Amazing Spider-Man 2 deleted scene we ran yesterday of Peter Parker meeting his dad.  And now we’ve got one today from Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

It’s one of the bonus features from the September 9 release of the Captain America: The Winter Soldier DVD.

The scene has Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, a fan favorite. Hill showcases her uncanny ability to distinguish the good from bad and illustrates why she is such a valuable member of the S.H.I.E.L.D. team. At its heart, the agency is a spy organization, and in this cut scene from the spring blockbuster, it shows why Hill is such a fantastic and gifted spy.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier brings back Chris Evans as Cap, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and introduces Anthony Mackie as Falcon. As you ready for the home video arrival next month, watch Captain America: The First Avenger online.

Ricky Gervais Making Movie Based on His The Office Character

Ricky Gervais must have had a taste of the singing bug with his turn in Muppets Most Wanted because he’s bringing back his The Office character as he tries to make it as a pop star.

Life On the Road Ricky Gervais

It’s been 10 years since Gervais hung up his suit and tie as David Brent, and now he ‘s bringing him back for a film that is currently being called Life On the Road.

The film will be shot in the same manner that The Office was, documentary style. And it will follow Brent as he walks away from his life as a salesman to pursue his dream of making it in the music industry. This is not too far from Gervais' own life as he got his start in just the same manner, trying to sing his way to the top!

"We find out what Brent is doing now and what's happened in the last 15 years since his redundancy from his beloved Wernham Hogg," Gervais said in a statement.

Stay with Movie Fanatic as we bring you more on this welcome news. We always adored Gervais in his The Office role and felt its run was way too short.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Megan Fox Tells Haters to “F-ck Off”

0
0

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles star Megan Fox is no stranger to acting opposite things that do not exist in the real world. Watch Transformers online and there she is running from/with enormous robots, and now she’s back utilizing her imagination in the reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. But, this time with the turtles, it was vastly different.

Megan Fox in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

“When we were doing Transformers, Shia [LaBeouf] and I were just screaming things at the sky. We had no references, at all, at that point, because how can you when you’re dealing with 30-foot robots,” Fox told Movie Fanatic.

“But with this one, we had four actors that were really there -- in what I consider a stroke of genius, cast by Jonathan [Liebesman, director]. They were perfect for their roles and really embodied them.”

Having real actors doing things that computers would enhance later made all the difference for the actress.

“When you’re doing movies like this, you do the scene with the actors, and then you have to do a clean plate without the actors there, so that if they want to use that shot, they don’t have to paint them out before they paint the Turtles in,” Fox said.

“And inevitably, in every single one of those, I was always significantly worse when the actors weren’t with me. Because they were so good, they helped make me a lot better. So, whenever you have the opportunity to work with real people, that’s always helpful.”

Growing up, Fox was a huge fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles -- as millions of others her age were too. But, she has her sibling to thank for her affinity with the crime-fighting turtles.

“I had an older sister that was really into the movies, so I got into it because of her,” Fox admitted. “I also watched the cartoon. I’m not going to claim that I read the comics because I didn’t, and I don’t want to get stoned for claiming that I did something that I didn’t do.”

Fox’s character, April O’Neill, isn’t idly sitting by while her turtle friends get in on all the action -- teased in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trailer. Fox had to train and be ready to fight as the scenes required. “We initially started out doing some kickboxing training. We had an incredible stunt team, so they would teach us as we went along,” Fox said.

The actress was also pregnant, so she was clearly thankful for her stunt double that could fill in the action blanks. “I couldn’t do all of the stunts while I was filming. What I couldn’t do, we had an amazing stunt girl that would do the series stuff for me. But I did what I could, and that was a lot because I’m bad-ass!”

She was also drawn to the role because it was the rare moment where she could play a character that was highly intelligent and not overly sexualized. Not that she minds the latter.

“I don’t mind doing that stuff. That’s been a part of being an actress in Hollywood since the beginning. I don’t feel ashamed. If you don’t take me seriously when I’m wearing a tank top, that’s your (expletive) problem, not mine,” Fox said.

Given her passion for all things Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, that was clearly the big draw. “I was attracted to this because I was a fan as a kid. I really wanted to do this, and I got the opportunity to go in and have a meeting,” Fox said.

Her long meeting over the part affected her amorous plans with her husband Brian Austin Greene, but it was worth it!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Premiere Megan Fox

“It was Valentine’s Day and three of us were in there for five hours at Paramount. Brian was texting me, ‘It’s Valentine’s Day. Where are you?!’” she said.

Fox was thrilled to get the part, and as a fan, she was motivated not to miss her mark and deliver for the millions who adore the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

“I really campaigned to get this because I was a fan. I was afraid, at the same time, because you don’t want to ruin something that you’ve loved and be a part of its downfall. I was terrified of letting people down, but I had to do it because it was iconic to me, as a kid. I just feel lucky to have gotten the opportunity.”

O’Neill is a journalist in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Fox admitted that she is the wrong person to ask about how much to give the media in terms of your personal life. “I clearly haven’t learned that lesson,” Fox said and laughed.

“I like to be open and honest. I hate being disingenuous. It’s really uncomfortable for me. I don’t excel at doing that. But I’ve also learned that, because of what journalists do, so much of what I say gets sensationalized. I don’t have a good gauge on how to edit, but my intention is a good one.”

Whether public opinion about her talents or those who despise the Transformers movies that made her famous, or even the raised eyebrow that some elites have when it comes to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, Fox has a message for the haters.

“Let me tell you something about those people. How much money did Transformers 4 make? Those people can complain, but they all go to the theater and see those movies,” Fox said.

“They’re gonna love it, and if they don’t love it, they can f-ck off.”

Divergent DVD Review: Shailene Woodley Wows Us!

0
0

Divergent arrives on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download after its triumphant ($400 million gross) run in theaters. Veronica Roth’s blockbuster book could not have tapped a better director in Neil Burger. And casting Shailene Woodley as our heroine, Tris, was an absolute perfect choice.

Divergent DVD

Roth’s story follows a dystopian world where the citizens of Chicago live behind a walled landscape and live their life in peace by being placed in one of five virtue-based factions. Woodley’s Tris is nervous on her fateful day when she will take the test and learn how she will spend the rest of her days. But, when the test is administered (by Maggie Q), it comes up inconclusive and that is the greatest threat of all to the government. She is a Divergent.

As teased in the Divergent trailer, Tris takes it upon herself to join the Dauntless faction, a group charged with keeping society safe and known for their fearless nature. Tris knows she’s not supposed to be there but still triumphs and, in many ways, finds a home. But, her secret (that she’s a Divergent) is ever present and she is convinced that at one point, someone will find out.

One of her teachers/coaches, Four (Theo James), has an idea that she is something special and as the film progresses, we learn whether he will be a friend or foe to this girl who could be the biggest threat or ally the government has ever seen.

The cast is impressive, as we stated in our theatrical Divergent review. Kate Winslet shines as the leader of this world, and Ashley Judd and Tony Goldwyn are brilliantly cast as Tris’ parents. The film also boasts Miles Teller, Mekhi Phifer and Jai Courtney. And we would be remiss to not mention the stunning turn of Ansel Elgort (who would go on to star with Woodley in the stunning Fault of our Stars) as Tris’ brother.

Shailene Woodley Tris Prior

When it comes to the Divergent DVD and Blu-Ray bonus features, fans of the Roth book series should be more than thrilled. There are hours of material that explore not only the making of the movie, but also the world of Divergent itself.

We were especially taken with Faction Before Blood, which details the film’s futuristic world and how Burger and his team created it. Watching Divergent, one of the most impressive aspects of this film is the production design.

And given that Burger had such a vision for Divergent, we cannot recommend enough watching the movie a second time with his audio commentary. There is a second audio commentary track with producers Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher that also adds color to the entire Divergent experience.

The Bringing Divergent to Life documentary is nothing short of brilliant. We think that there should be some awards established for home video “making-of” docs and Divergent’s would surely do quite well! It was no easy task bringing a beloved book to life and after witnessing this making-of doc, viewers will marvel at this world with a whole new level of awe.

The deleted scenes are actually quite fascinating. As anyone knows who loves books that movies are based on, not everything can make it into the theatrical version. Witnessing scenes that Burger shot -- that didn’t make the cut -- allows fans of the books to see some of their favorite scenes from Roth’s book, even if they were not in the movie proper.

Watch Divergent online and check out the brilliance of this first chapter that will be followed by Insurgent on March 20, 2015 and Allegiant Part 1 on March 18, 2016 and Allegiant Part 2 on March 24, 2017.

I'm not gonna let that happen.

Beatrice 'Tris' Prior: They're gonna kill me.
Four: I'm not gonna let that happen.

Four clearly sees something in Tris. And, we think he kinda likes her!

Hot on the heels of our Captain America: The Winter Soldier deleted scene of Maria Hill that we ran this morning, we have news from the film’s directors about what they’re going to do next with Captain America 3.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier Teaser Poster

Anthony and Joe Russo were talking to Yahoo Movies and admitted that the film will pick up “a couple years” after Captain America: The Winter Soldier and focus on Steve Rogers and his not-so-easy relationship with his childhood buddy Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan).

“The character was invented for an explicitly political purpose. So it’s hard to get away from that nature,” Anthony said of the Cap character.

Joe also hinted that they would be “bringing some new elements to the table that will give us a twist on Winter Soldier.”

Look for the sequel to Captain America: The Winter Soldier on May 6, 2016 and until then, see how Steve Rogers got started and watch Captain America: The First Avenger online.

Chris Pratt did something extraordinary with his turn as Peter Quill, aka Star Lord, and those unforgettable Guardians of the Galaxy quotes. The Hundred-Foot Journey: Helen Mirren Reveals Her Final Meal!

0
0

Helen Mirren plays a woman, Madame Mallory, in The Hundred-Foot Journey who runs a Michelin star-winning restaurant in the south of France. As for the Oscar-winning actress herself, when it comes to cooking, she is not so good!

Helen Mirren Stars In The Hundred Foot Journey

“In the movie, I run the restaurant. She knows food, and understands food, and employs very, very good chefs. She doesn’t actually cook herself. She tastes, and judges,” Mirren told Movie Fanatic. “But luckily, she doesn’t cook, because I would reveal myself very rapidly to be somewhat inept. The only thing I have to do is to break eggs!”

The film follows Mirren’s Madame Mallory who runs one of the world’s premier restaurants. When an Indian family (that features patriarch Om Puri and his master chef son Manish Dayal) moves across the street to open an Indian restaurant, she does everything in her power to ensure they fail.

The Hundred-Foot Journey showcases Mirren's excellence at playing characters that may be cold on the outside, but discover a heart of gold. Her character is not the nicest, but has a moment of redemption that is truly touching. We wondered if that was a necessary aspect for Mirren in playing people who may not be so nice.

“I think it depends, really. It depends on the nature of the script, and what the script is saying. And if your role, as this awful person, is serving a certain purpose within the script and you approve of that message, then that’s fine, absolutely. One services the script, the best you can,” Mirren said.

One of the things that Mirren clearly adores about being an actress is that screenwriters put words in her mouth that make her sound much more intelligent and savvy than she is in real life! Like playing someone who is an expert about food! “We get our best lines written for us. We look intelligent. We look witty,” Mirren admitted.

She then credits her director, Lasse Hallstrom (watch Chocolat online for another classic foodie movie from him!), for making the entire thing so beautiful and compelling, as teased in The Hundred-Foot Journey trailer.

“As you all know, film is a very cumbersome, technical, heavy medium. It’s very hard to make soufflé of a film, which is hopefully what this is, a well risen soufflé. But it’s very hard to maintain that sort of lightness of touch,” Mirren said. “And Lasse achieved it.”

The Oscar winner admitted, though, that the big draw for The Hundred-Foot Journey was a chance to live a dream that can never be a reality. “I really wanted to play Madam Mallory because she’s French. I’m dying to be a French actress and I’ve never managed it. It was my pathetic attempt at being a French actress,” Mirren said and laughed.

Helen Mirren Manish Dayal The Hundred Foot JOurney

“I’ve lived and worked in Paris. I’ve met with such kindness in Paris, from people that I didn’t know. The Parisians seem on the surface to be so cold and judgmental, and sort of superior. But actually, they’re incredibly kindhearted, and generous.”

Her fascination with all things French came from her time in the City of Lights and Mirren obviously has left her heart there.

“I think that was to do with growing up in England in the early and mid-'60s, when everything French seemed to be so chic and so fabulous, and everything English was so dull. This was just before the Swinging '60s of England,” Mirren said.

“The French, the food was better, the clothes were better, the makeup was better, the hair was better - everything was better in France! And they were suntanned, when we were always white and crinkly! My husband says I’ve got an inferiority complex, as far as the French are concerned. And I think he’s right!”

Since audiences will leave the theater craving French food, Indian food, a fusion of the two -- or something entirely different -- and they clearly will be hungry, we asked Mirren if she had a “last meal,” what would it be?

“A dish that you get in Madrid, called Huevos Estrellados. It’s basically chips, fried potatoes, with egg. It is so delicious, so fantastic!”

Of all the messages of The Hundred-Foot Journey, one resonates more with Mirren than any other.

“Love thy neighbor. And that’s the hardest and much more difficult than do not covet thy neighbor’s wife. That’s easy,” Mirren said and laughed. “Love thy neighbor is difficult. It’s the most important.”

Terminator Genisys Wraps Production: Arnold Posts Photo!

We learned two things about the Terminator reboot from one photo posted by Arnold Schwarzenegger today on his social media account.

One, production for the fifth Terminator movie directed by Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) has completed. And two, the name of the film is not Terminator: Genesis, it is Terminator: Genisys!

"Hasta la vista, baby,” Schwarzenegger wrote on his Facebook page.

“I want to thank the cast and crew of Terminator Genisys for a fantastic shoot. It was challenging, it was fun, and it was rewarding. From our director to the producers, from the camera team to catering, from visual effects to hair and makeup - we couldn't have done it without you. I can't wait to see our finished project and I know we'll remind the fans why they fell in love with the Terminator. On July 1, 2015, I'll be back."

Terminator: Genisys stars Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney and J.K. Simmons.

Seth MacFarlane had the most difficult task when he decided what he would do with his next film to follow up those unforgettable Ted quotes.

So, he headed to the Old West and had a ball finding A Million Ways to Die in the West. The film landed earlier this summer and now we have news about the A Million Ways to Die in the West DVD and Blu-Ray release.

A Million Ways to Die in the West DVD

Look for the MacFarlane effort that features him as writer, director and star to land on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download on October 7. There’s a slew of bonus features that were announced as well.

There’s much more to this film than thoseA Million Ways to Die in the West quotes. In fact, it’s a true Western farce with an all-star cast that includes Liam Neeson, Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried, Giovanni Ribisi and Neil Patrick Harris.

MacFarlane plays a sheep farmer who utterly despises living in Arizona in the late 1800s -- especially when there is a bad guy (played by Neeson) who wants him dead. But, as the film’s title suggests, there are a slew of other ways to die during that time period as well!
