0
0

The doll from The Conjuring is getting an origins story with the arrival on October 3 of Annabelle.

That doll is pretty darn scary and judging by our first Annabelle trailer, discovering the beginnings of this horrific doll might be pretty darn fun for filmgoers -- if you're into that sort of thing!

Warner Bros. has released a TV spot for the upcoming horror flick that begins when John thinks he has found the perfect gift for his expectant wife Mia. It is a rare, vintage doll in a pure white wedding dress -- and one Mia has been searching for since she first became aware of the doll's existence.

Then, one evening, their house is taken over by a satanic cult who attacks the couple and leaves more than bloodstains and a lifetime of nightmares for the young lovebirds.

Their beloved doll is now possessed and life will never be the same.

Check out what Annabelle became before you see her origins and watch The Conjuring online

I Know What You Did Last Summer Getting Reboot

0
0

They’re remaking everything else, so why not a '90s classic starring a who’s-who of pretty faces that were the hottest of the moment during that decade. I Know What You Did Last Summer is coming at audiences in the near future.

I Know What You Did Last Summer Poster

The film starred Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe and Freddie Prinze, Jr. The screenplay for that flick was penned by Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson and it would produce a sequel with a pretty obvious name, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.

No word on who might star in the remake, but with all the young actors and actresses in this town, we’re sure they’ll find a who’s-who of millennial talent to fill the ranks.

Although it may seem like a cash grab, this film is actually based on a pretty darn good book, 1973’s I Know What You Did Last Summer.

And as we all know, it’s not unusual for books to get a different version on at least more than one occasion. How many Tom Sawyer’s have we seen, right? Not that we’re comparing a '70s horror classic to Mark Twain, but you get the picture!

Oculus writer and director Mike Flanagan will pen the script, based directly on the popular book, and we’re guessing he will also direct.

Universal has given those two the original release date set for The Bourne Legacy sequel and that is July 16, 2016. And that Renner-starring flick is still coming, but when we do not know at this time.

Marvel and Disney have released the first official synopsis for their highly anticipated sequel to The Avengers. We pretty much know the story by now about how our favorite superheroes are back together to fight Ultron (James Spader), who seeks the complete and utter destruction of the human race.

Avengers Age of Ultron Concept Art Poster

But, there appears to be a little more (you think?) to this story, including how Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and his twin Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) factor in to the storyline.

Here’s the Marvel official Avengers: Age of Ultron synopsis:

Marvel Studios presents Avengers: Age of Ultron, the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth's Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance.

As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell bent on human extinction.

Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision.

Watch The Avengers online to get in the mood for the film whose release date of May 1, 2015 leads off what we think will be the best summer ever.

The Equalizer Clip: Denzel Delivers The Hurt

Denzel Washington is The Equalizer and audiences will discover exactly what that means when the Antoine Fuqua film premieres September 26.

But, what was first teased in that The Equalizer trailer can truly be seen in a new clip released by Columbia Pictures that gives viewers a real sense for what Washington’s character is capable of and why he is such a compelling force to be reckoned with.

In this extended clip, Fuqua and Washington start by adding their two cents as to what makes The Equalizer so special and then, we see it.

Washington is attempting to “buy” Chloe Grace Moretz’s freedom from some less than savory Russian mobsters. He’s just trying to help a friend, a fellow night owl whom he’s met at the local diner where he goes to drink tea and read his favorite books.

They don’t take his offer seriously and they probably should have. See how he "equalizes" the situation?!

Fuqua and Washington are reteaming for the second time -- watch Training Day online to witness their first explosive effort. And here’s hoping they get to a third time for that rumored The Magnificent Seven remake

Into the Woods Poster: Meryl Streep Is a Witchy Woman!

The first poster for Disney’s Into the Woods has landed!

And we could not be more thrilled with its subject -- Meryl Streep’s evil witch!

Even though this award winning Broadway musical’s leap to the silver screen possesses and all-star cast, when that Into the Woods teaser trailer arrived, we couldn’t take our eyes of off Streep! Surprised, hardly, she’s only the most talented performer on the planet right now!

Into the Woods is based on the Stephen Sondheim penned musical and has the most unique of takes on the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tales. It intertwines the tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy) and Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone).

They are all tied together by an original tale that focuses on a baker and his wife (James Corden and Emily Blunt) whose wish to start a family is granted, but when Streep’s witch shows up… they begin to wonder at what cost.

Look for Into the Woods in theaters December 25!

Fury Featurette: Inside the Tanks of Brad Pitt’s WWII Thriller

As you can tell from the Fury trailer, the Brad Pitt-starring vehicle (bad pun) follows a tank unit in the waning days of World War II. They are behind enemy lines and our best hope for ending the war sooner than later.

Columbia Pictures has released a behind-the-scenes clip that takes us inside the tanks of David Ayer’s Fury, and the incredible thought and effort that went into authentically capturing those brave soldiers and their warring vehicles is nothing less than astounding.

Pitt is joined in the cast by Ayer’s End of Watch lead Michael Pena, as well as Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman and Jon Bernthal.

Look for the flick on November 14. And check out Ayer's most recent work and watch End of Watch online

As you can see in that stellar Interstellar trailer, Matthew McConaughey must leave his beloved family behind to head into the furthest reaches of space in order to find humankind a suitable home.

The film’s first true poster has landed and it is stunning.

Our world has become overrun with drought and there is no choice but to look elsewhere for our species’ shelter.

The film is the latest from Christopher Nolan (check out one of our faves of his and watch The Dark Knight online) and it's one of our 31 breakout films of fall for obvious reasons.

Interstellar will land in theaters and IMAX screens on November 7 and also features Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway (as a fellow astronaut), John Lithgow, Michael Caine, Ellen Burstyn and Topher Grace.

The reboot/new incarnation of the film that first gave us those National Lampoon’s Vacation quotes has started shooting!

Vacation Poster

Ed Helms stars as a grown-up Rusty Griswold with Christina Applegate playing his wife Debbie. They are hopping in the family truckster and heading to Walley World to try to have a slightly better time than what Rusty had when you watch National Lampoon’s Vacation online.

Warner Bros. and New Line have also released the film’s synopsis for the flick that also added Chris Hemsworth and Charlie Day to the cast.

Vacation Synopsis:

The Griswolds are at it again! Shooting has begun in Georgia on New Line Cinema's Vacation, starring Ed Helms (The Hangover) and Christina Applegate (Anchorman). The road comedy adventure marks Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley's directorial debut.

Following in his father's footsteps and hoping for some much-needed family bonding, a grown-up Rusty Griswold (Helms) surprises his wife, Debbie (Applegate), and their two sons with a cross-country trip back to America’s "favorite family fun park," Walley World.

Rounding out the cast are Chris Hemsworth (Thor) in the role of Stone Crandall, Rusty’s irritatingly successful brother-in-law; Charlie Day (Horrible Bosses), who plays a river rafting guide; and Skyler Gisondo (Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb) and Steele Stebbins (A Haunted House 2), who play Rusty’s sons, James and Kevin. Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo reprise their roles as Clark and Ellen Griswold from the classic Vacation comedies.

Goldstein & Daley (Horrible Bosses, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2) wrote the script, based on characters created by John Hughes. David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) and Chris Bender (We’re the Millers) are producing, with Marc S. Fischer serving as executive producer.

The directors' behind-the-scenes creative team also includes director of photography Barry Peterson (21 Jump Street), production designer Barry Robison (Pitch Perfect), and costume designer Debra McGuire (Ted).

Star Wars: Anthony Daniels Names His Favorite C3PO Line!

0
0

Anthony Daniels has had the honor of being in every single Star Wars movie from A New Hope to Revenge of the Sith. And in a recent interview with EW, he talks the highs and the highers of being one of the few actors who can make that claim.

C3PO is Happy

“It’s a real pleasure. I’m not exactly boasting about it, but I feel very good about having stuck it out [in this role] for nearly 40 years,” Daniels said.

He then went on to say how excited he is for audiences to come back to the world that Lucas created all those years ago with the arrival of Star Wars: Episode VII.

“I’m very happy to say I’m involved in another take on Star Wars. I think it’s very inventive that people -- writers, producers, production, and directors -- they can come up with some new angle that will give audiences another way into the story, because Star Wars has always had a backstory,” Daniels said.

“The first one, Episode IV, launched the story out of nowhere -- [the story was told] as if audiences all knew what [the characters] were talking about. Certainly I didn’t, but intelligent audiences went, 'Oh yeah, this is cool, this is real.' Similarly, even with an animated series, it fills in some of that history that would have happened whether you saw it onscreen or not.”

The man has had more than his share of Star Wars quotes. So, when Daniels was then asked to name his favorite dialogue for the character who is the master of hundreds and hundreds of languages, it took no time at all.

“My favorite line is, [in character as C-3PO] 'We’re doomed.' It’s a phrase that encapsulates his whole philosophy. It’s his life. He always feels on the edge of disaster. That’s where the humor comes from because he is a humorous character, but mostly it comes by default. He doesn’t tell jokes. He’s just wrong about everything most of the time and lives on this precipice of fear, which gives a sort of tension,” Daniels admitted.

“You and I hide that. You hid magnificently that you were terrified of talking to me. As humans, adults, we sort of do. He doesn’t have that guile. And in fact, now that I come to think of it, he is pretty much without guile. He says it as it is and that can occasionally be quite funny because he can be inappropriate without meaning to be. This is the thing that George and the writers originally created and we’ve taken it further and further. There’s no way I can think of the situations he’s put into, but they sometimes let me tweak [his lines]. In fact, they always let me tweak the script.”

Check out our thoughts for which one of the characters in the Star Wars universe should get their own stand alone movie… is C3PO there?

A Walk Among the Tombstones: Liam Neeson Feels Like a “Kid In a Toy Shop”

0
0

Liam Neeson is back in action in A Walk Among the Tombstones. The thriller, based on the character from the book series by Lawrence Block, features Neeson as Matt Scudder, a former NYPD detective who moved to private detective work after one fateful night found him inadvertently killing an innocent bystander -- as teased in the A Walk Among the Tombstones trailer.

A Walk Among the Tombstones Star Liam Neeson

When we caught up with Neeson he talked about this latest renaissance in his career where he is now more known for his action work than his serious thespian endeavors.

“I was in my 50s when this Taken film came out. I was sure it was a straight to video, good little European thriller. Well, Fox studios took it and did this amazing sell job and showed the trailer at big sporting events and it became a hit,” Neeson admitted.

“I started getting sent these action scripts in my 50s, and it was flattering and I felt like a kid in a toy shop and I figured, why not do them? I’m very fortunate to get to play these characters this stage in my life. I love doing it. I’ll keep doing them as long as they keep sending me these scripts.”

Neeson then stressed that these are certain types of characters and you won’t see him trying to be someone he’s not. “I always wanted to not become like a 27-year-old. I try in these fight scenes to fight like a 50-year-old. Even though I’m 62,” he said and laughs. “I don’t want it to be a superhero type.”

This action hero portion of his career is actually finding him in roles that were the ones he looked up to as a kid. “I was always attracted to that type of cinema hero as an adolescent growing up in Ireland. Robert Mitchum springs to mind -- later on it was Steve McQueen – to a certain extent Charles Bronson,” Neeson said.

“They were grizzled characters who had one foot on the side of law and order and the other foot in the bad guy’s camp. They always tread on a delicate line. I always found it appealing. It’s great to get the chance to do that. They’re real.”

That is exactly what his character is in A Walk Among the Tombstones. His private detective takes work from those who can’t go to the cops. And in this case, it’s a drug dealer (Dan Stevens) whose wife has been kidnapped. Even though he paid the ransom, the kidnappers still brutally murdered her. He wants Neeson to find them, and he’ll do the rest.

“In Matt Scudder’s case, he’s a recovering alcoholic. Those guys wake up in the morning and they have to think of a reason to get up. It’s all these little heroic battles they fight with and against every day of their lives,” Neeson said.

A Walk Among the Tombstones Dan Stevens Liam Neeson

“I think Scott (Frank, writer-director) brought that out very lovely, very beautifully in the film. So he’s not larger-than-life; he’s just one of us. But his career was in the police force, and these guys see a side of humanity that we just don’t want to know about, on a daily basis.”

Neeson is no stranger to accolades. He was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for his work on Schindler’s List. And many of his works lately are considered some of the best of the year, such as 2011’s The Grey. But action films rarely get the notice of the Academy and Neeson is just fine with that.

“The whole awards thing, listen, I think they’re great. The Golden Globes, the Academy, they put a focus on the industry and that focus translates into people buying tickets to see movies. It keeps us all in work. So I’m a big fan of award shows. But, it takes a hell of a lot of money to mount a campaign for any film,” Neeson said.

“So, a picture like The Grey, which came out January or February, the closing date for that year’s consideration is December -- it takes a lot of money to remind an audience again. It’s OK. It’s not really frustrating. What was it Lauren Bacall said, ‘It’s a great medium, a lousy business?’ The reward is doing the work.”

Not that Neeson is a complete loner, but he does play characters (like Scudder) who like to go at it alone -- and in many ways, he finds that easy to relate to. “I like to think I am. No, no man’s an island, as they say,” Neeson said.

“I’ve tried it. I’ve gone on retreats at various times in my life for three, four, five days, and I was desperate to get out of there and talk to somebody! But I fly fish a lot. I can only really do that by myself. I’m never lonesome when I’m on a river -- far from it. It’s a lonely practice.”

Dracula Untold Clip: How Vlad Becomes Dracula

We all think we know the story of Dracula and his Transylvania beginnings. But, given what we’ve seen in that Dracula Untold trailer, the story is much more complicated than that.

Universal has released its first clip from the upcoming October 10 release that finds Luke Evans as Vlad Tepes and introduces us to how he actually became the Dark Prince of legend.

We’ve also got our hands on a new poster from the highly anticipated film in the slideshow below.

It seems our evil doer is actually more of a reluctant hero as the only reason he wanted this immense power with awful side effects is to protect his family and his people.

Dracula Untold also stars Sarah Gadon, Diarmaid Murtagh, Dominic Cooper and Samantha Barks.

Ghostbusters: Dan Aykroyd Compares Franchise to Star Wars & Marvel

0
0

Dan Aykroyd is busy writing Ghostbusters 3, or so we have been told. And we’ve also been informed that that film is likely to be a reboot or sorts with an all-female Ghostbusters cast.

Ghostbusters Cast Still

In a recent interview with THR, Aykroyd explained his vision for his beloved franchise and he even compares it to some might huge ones and thinks that Ghostbusters can match those in the coming years as he is clearly thinking about a world that has much more than just Ghostbusters 3.

“It’s beyond just another sequel, a prequel, another TV show. I’m thinking what does the whole brand mean to Sony? What does Pixar and Star Wars mean to Disney? What does Marvel mean to Fox?” he said.

Aykroyd seems to want to take Ghostbusters into the future as much as having a desire to explore its past. He said it’s “not just another movie or another TV show, but what’s the totality of it? The whole mythology from the beginning of their lives, the end of their lives. Ghostbusters at nine years old, Ghostbusters in high school.”

Sounds like someone has a lot of Ghostbusters ideas brewing in his brain! But, there is one thing that Aykroyd is clear about and that’s the technology of the Ghostbusters, and yes, he even brings Marvel into it again.

“It’s up on blocks, it needs new electronics, new everything. That’s what we have to do. The whole vehicle of Ghostbusters has to be rebuilt. That’s the ambitious thinking that’s going on now,” Aykroyd said.

“Taking on the model of Marvel where we take all of the elements that are in this movie and we put them out there as different ideas.”

So, in the short term, what about that Ghostbusters 3 flick that is supposedly starting shooting soon? “We need to write it,” he admitted.

While Aykroyd gets busy on that, watch Ghostbusters online.

The Judge Extended Trailer: Robert Downey Jr. Seeks the Truth

0

One of our 31 films to watch for this fall, The Judge, has released its latest trailer.

It truly paints the picture of this film, starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Robert Duvall as father and son, as less of a courtroom drama and more of a familial yarn about two strong willed souls trying to reconcile after years of drifting apart.

The film lands October 10 and features an all-star cast that includes not only Oscar nominee Downey, but fellow nominee Vera Farmiga.

The Judge also has more than one Oscar winner in Duvall, as he’s joined by fellow Academy Award winner Billy Bob Thornton as the lawyer who seeks to put Duvall behind bars for murder.

As the first The Judge trailer teased, this is still a story about a man (Duvall) who is fighting a murder charge and has to make amends with his defense attorney son (Downey) before that gavel is slammed down.

Paranormal Activity 5: Release Date & Title Revealed

0
0

Paranormal Activity 5 has been given a release date that continues the series’ "new" trend of not having their films open on their traditional date surrounding Halloween.

Paranormal Activity Logo

Paranormal Activity 5 was initially set to premiere this Halloween, and clearly that isn’t happening.

Now we have word that Paramount is moving the fifth movie in the Paranormal Activity series from October 25 to March 13, 2015.

The film now has to deal with some serious competition from Ron Howard’s Chris Hemsworth-starring Heart of the Sea and the live action Disney version of Cinderella.

The fifth film in the horror series follows the decently received fourth film that was a true spin-off -- Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, which landed last January, also clearly not the scariest time of year!

The latest Paranormal Activity finally does have a title though. It is now known as Paranormal Activity: Ghost Dimension and this time out, we think the release date will stick.

Watch Paranormal Activity online and see how this whole horror show got started.

Godzilla DVD Review: Gareth Edwards Makes a Monster Smash!

0
0

Godzilla is a movie property that Hollywood could not quite get right. The late '90s version starring Matthew Broderick was a monstrosity. But, with this past summer’s Godzilla from director Gareth Edwards, a triumphant monster movie was born and now the flick has arrived on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download.

Godzilla Blu-Ray/DVD

Edwards’ epic stars Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen (who reunite for Avengers: Age of Ultron), but the real star is the big atomically altered monster. As we stated in our Godzilla review, this film works on so many levels, and not the least of which is how Edwards and screenwriter Max Borenstein managed to create characters played by those aforementioned stars that we care about.

That is imperative so that when the action starts and the epic scale of the film becomes the focus, we are invested in what happens. And what is also astounding is that Godzilla himself is also given an emotional storyline that has the audience pulling for him as well.

As teased in the Godzilla trailer, an “earthquake” has made a Japanese nuclear power plant (where Cranston works) unstable. Cranston, in many ways the heart of this picture, doesn’t buy the explanation and his conspiracy theory ways enlighten his estranged son (Taylor Johnson) into action that helps him when his military man is called into service to fight this monster.

The big guy is not the only monster we have to fear. MUTOs have popped up and it becomes clear that our best hope at fighting them… is Godzilla.

The film is a thrill ride and we are beyond thrilled that we’re getting Godzilla 2 before too long. And until that point, we treasure the Godzilla DVD and Blu-Ray and with the bonus features being as brilliant as they are, they will more than keep us entertained until the big guy returns to the big screen.

The featurette that would make Cranston’s character sublimely happy makes us thrilled as well. MONARCH: Declassified explores new evidence that was not contained in the movie that shows the monumental effort that the government undertook to keep the existence of Godzilla a secret from the public. The presentation of the featurette is nothing short of brilliant and plays into the conspiracy element of the story that is just one reason that Edwards completely nailed it with his version.

In that vein, MONARCH: The MUTO File explores the twin towers of danger that are Godzilla (and our) foes in Godzilla. Where did they come from? What are their reasons for being? All is explained in a terrific short doc that carries the feel of the film throughout and entertains AND enlightens. Longtime fans of Godzilla will truly treasure this particular bonus feature.

The Godzilla Revelation is a five-part behind-the-scenes featurette that is about as detail oriented as Edwards’ film itself.

The Legendary Godzilla takes viewers behind the scenes and shows the monumental effort Edwards and his team undertook to bring a triumphant version of the Japanese classic to life for new audiences.

We also appreciated the focus on the main monster with Godzilla: Force of Nature. Given that his presence is huge in the feature, but not large in terms of time on screen, Force of Nature illustrates what it is about this monster that has enthralled audiences for generations.

One of the most thrilling scenes in the film is the HALO jump that features Taylor Johnson and his team diving from high above the Earth into the action. How that scene was achieved and the difficulty that was making it is explored in a way that takes us inside the movie magic in another fantastic bonus feature.

All told, the Godzilla DVD and Blu-Ray is a gift for Godzilla fans that keeps on giving. Watch Godzilla online and discover for yourself how brilliant the entire effort is.

Fury Poster: War Never Ends Quietly

The latest poster for Fury has landed, hot on the heels of that killer Fury featurette that took us inside the tanks of the Brad Pitt-starring World War II movie.

Pitt stars as the leader of a tank unit in the waning days of World War II who holds the key to how long the Germans will hang on before they surrender. They are deep behind enemy lines and as Pitt says in the Fury trailer, he started “killing Germans in Africa and now I’m killing Germans in Germany.”

The war is almost over, but as the poster’s tagline says, “War never ends quietly.”

Fury lands in theaters October 14 and also stars Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman and Jon Bernthal. Also along for the tank battle is writer-director David Ayer’s End of Watch star, Michael Pena.

Watch End of Watch online and check out the brilliance that will surely expand when Ayer’s Fury lands next month.

Daniel Craig Skyfall Interview

Craig was on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII for two days last week (it is shooting at Pinewood, also home to the James Bond series) and according to a source close to the production, "Daniel is close friends with JJ Abrams. He asked for some sort of secret cameo role and was happy to have his name left off the posters."

So, when December 18, 2015 arrives and we’re all front and center watching Star Wars: Episode VII, let’s see if Craig’s cameo gets added to our list of 9 unforgettable movie cameos.
