When we reported that Theo James would star in an Underworld spin-off, called Underworld: Next Generation, based on his character David from Underworld, we thought that was the end of the road for Kate Beckinsale and her alter ego Seline. Not so, and we could not be happier!

Kate Beckinsale stars in Underworld Awakening

Len Wiseman, the creator and director of the series (and Beckinsale’s husband), announced at this week’s New York Comic Con that not only will Beckinsale be back in an Underworld movie, but that the franchise was expanding to include a TV series.

It’s Underworld everywhere! Spin-offs! New Beckinsale movie! TV series! Fans of the series, try to contain yourselves!

“There's a few things being developed right now,” Wiseman told IGN.

“There are some characters who we really liked that will be in a kind of a spin-off like we did with Rise of the Lycans, then we have another film in the works with Kate as well… And then there’s a television series.”

Look for more news on this soon, and until then, see how it all got started and watch Underworld online

As you can probably tell from The Boy Next Door trailer, Jennifer Lopez has a thing for the hottie who lives next door. That is, until he turns a little psycho and has Lopez’s character questioning her choice in men. Oh, and fearing for her life!

Universal has just released the first The Boy Next Door poster and it clearly features a Lopez in the latter part of that above description. It’s raining, and she looks terrified.

The object of her fear is Ryan Guzman, the actor who previously wowed us with his dancing moves in Step Up: All In and Step Up: Revolution.

The Boy Next Door is directed by Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious) and also stars John Corbett and Kristin Chenoweth. Look for it on January 23, 2015.

Million Dollar Arm DVD Review: Jon Hamm Pitches Perfect Game

$

Jon Hamm left his Mad Men world behind and triumphed in his first Disney movie, Million Dollar Arm– out now on DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital Download.

Million Dollar Arm DVD

It’s from the same people who brought us Miracle and that magic that can be seen when you watch Remember the Titans online. And yes, it’s an unbelievable and inspiring true story about a man who goes to India to find the next big star for… baseball?!

Hamm stars as JB Bernstein, the real life sports agent whose agency was about to go under. To use a phrase from another sport other than the subject of Million Dollar Arm, he needed a Hail Mary to save his business.

What he got was much more than a business saving savior(s), he found a new lease on life, a soul mate and forged a bridge between two countries around a sport that is the national pastime of one and completely foreign to the other.

As teased in the Million Dollar Arm trailer, Bernstein heads to India and launches a reality TV contest that shares the movie’s title. He is searching among a cricket crazy country for the next great Major League Baseball pitcher. What he comes home with is not one, but two potential players, and in this true story, we get to see their wild journey from novice to getting signed!

Given how the real life actors who play the baseball stars, Suraj Sharma and Madhur Mittal, did not know much about being a Major League pitcher, the bonus features favorites are led by the documentary short, Training Camp, which explores their own journey learning the game.

Million Dollar Arm Jon Hamm

And for those wanting more about Bernstein and his players, Rinku and Dinesh, the Their Story featurette is absolutely amazing. What we see in Million Dollar Arm is fascinating and inspiring, but what is explored further in Their Story goes even deeper, and hearing from the real life inspirations for the Disney movie is priceless. We cannot recommend this bonus feature enough.

The biggest takeaway from Their Story is that what Bernstein, Rinku and Dinesh accomplished has changed the lives of tens of thousands of kids in India, as they now too play baseball with hopes of big league dreams. And yes, Million Dollar Arm -- the show -- still airs in that country!

We are huge fans of the work of composer A.R. Rahman, who came to wide attention with his Oscar-winning score for Slumdog Millionaire. He is the man behind the music for Million Dollar Arm and for fellow fans like myself, the bonus feature Million Dollar Music by A.R. Rahman takes us inside the movie-making magic of the award-winning composer and it is beyond fascinating to see how he comes up with his themes and melodies that enhance his movies.

A Billion New Fans
If Hamm's idea of finding a baseball star in India works, baseball can expect a billion new fans.

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day: Director Dishes Disney Hit!

Miguel Arteta conquered the mountain of movie no-no’s with Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. They say that you should never work with animals or babies. Not only did he have both of those in his live action Disney family film, but he also had to grapple with fires, car crashes and the challenge of creating a fast moving and fun film for an audience that was used to animation providing both.

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day Miguel Arteta Jennifer Garner

We caught up with Arteta for an exclusive chat where he took us inside the making of a new Disney classic, starring Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner, that has found audiences responding in droves, judging by the most recent weekend box office report!

Movie Fanatic: The live action family film from Disney we have not seen in some time and you have successfully brought it back. One, why was that important for you to direct, and two, beyond it being an entertainment piece for families, do you hope it starts a new trend over at the Mouse House?

Miguel Arteta: I grew up with those movies and I love them -- That Darn Cat, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. For me, it was a throwback to those movies, but also the John Hughes movies that we all adore. I try to make movies about things that I put my heart into. On paper it may look a little weird – an independent filmmaker who made Chuck and Buck making a Disney family film. But, in real life I have come a long ways. I used to be a complicated guy in my twenties. I didn’t get along with my family. As I got older, I got married, I got a little bit happier and I realized that I didn’t have such a bad family. I’m trying to learn to appreciate them. When I read the script, I felt that I could be sincere about it.

Movie Fanatic: When I left the theater, I just wanted to call my parents.

Miguel Arteta: That’s the best compliment I could get. When I went to Disney, we got to make it fast and we have to make it funny because kids are used to animation. But, what I hope is that people come out of the theater with a new appreciation for their family. There was something lovely about this film.

Movie Fanatic: Much has to do with the script, but also much of the success has to do with the cast and them working well, and truly being believable as a family. When did you notice the connection with the cast?

Miguel Arteta: As a filmmaker, you create the environment for chemistry, hoping that it happens. It had to be a lovely family because the movie hinges on people rooting for this family to make it through this horrible day. We started with Steve Carell, the nicest, warmest guy in the world. Jen Garner is also very authentic and a very nice person. My mandate was to find kids who also had a generosity of heart who were just good people. My hope would be that they would like each other a lot [laughs]. Then, I would just run the camera. It became evident in the rehearsals. I was nervous because it was so do or die. A movie environment is chaotic, but a movie with fire and animals and car accidents and babies, it was chaotic enough that helped them bond. It was them against the elements making the movie. I count my blessings!

Steve Carell Stars In Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Movie Fanatic: There’s a pace there that is fast, as you mentioned it needed to be. And sure, there are beats for the emotion. But, how did you maintain that energy over the course of a several months-long shoot? It's even there in the Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day trailer!

Miguel Arteta: It was a challenge. This was one of what I call those dominos scripts. One chip has to fall, so that the others can too. There were no scenes that we took out, and there usually are. We had to be prepared so that we started and it never let up until it ended. Directing it, I’ve done this a few times, you learn that if something feels at all slow when you’re shooting it, it is going to feel glacier slow when you’re watching it. I knew I had to bring a lot of energy to the proceedings.

Movie Fanatic: The title character had to work. And you have a one-in-a-million kid in Ed Oxenbould. When you saw him, how did you know he was Alexander?

Miguel Arteta: Me and my wife sat through 500 audition tapes over a period of a few months. When he came on there was something immediate. She said, “Stop. That’s him.” In retrospect, we were looking for a kid who had the ability to be happy for others. At 12, it’s tough. Many were self involved, how most of us were at that age. There’s something about Ed, he’s authentically curious about other people. To the credit of Disney, they were so behind him. He’s not your typical Hollywood kid. They thought he was exactly right.

Movie Fanatic: They always say don’t work with babies or animals. And you also have car crashes and fire in this movie. Was there one aspect of all of that that was especially hard to overcome?

Miguel Arteta: It worked pretty well. We had a great stunt coordinator, he did Avatar. He knew how to set things up so that they would happen and happen fast. He helped us get this in the can in a wonderful way. There was a lot of luck involved. But, getting that baby to put that marker on his face -- it was a dark mood at that time because it was taking forever. But this guy Jimmy, who worked in the costume department, developed a relationship with the baby. He came up with an idea and sat there and put green marker all over his face so aggressively. The baby thought it was hilarious and then started to do it! Her eyes lit up. It was like we had won the lottery.

Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Javier Bardem Set to Be Villain?

In the Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz household, the Pirates of the Caribbean movies must be kindly thought of. Cruz appeared in the last film, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. And now we hear that Bardem is in talks to sign on as the film’s villain, Captain Brand.

Oscar Winner Javier Bardem

We know that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (its full title) will likely feature a return of Orlando Bloom, but the idea of Bardem returning to film villainy again fills us with such devilish delight.

Bardem famously was one of the top 15 best James Bond villains in Skyfall and he won an Oscar for being bad in No Country for Old Men. And we know that Cruz will return, so it appears that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will be a family affair!

Of course Johnny Depp will be back as Jack Sparrow and we also know that the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie is set to return July 7, 2017.

11 Things We Learned From Fury Cast: Go Inside the Tank!

From that first Fury trailer, it was clear that writer-director David Ayer had done something extraordinary.

His story about a tank crew, led by Brad Pitt, deep in Germany on the waning days of World War II had the potential to be powerful beyond what we’ve seen prior for tank films. Then, we saw it and it blew us away.

We met with Ayer, along with his stars Michael Pena, Logan Lerman and Jon Bernthal on the Sony lot and got some serious insight into the making of a new World War II classic.

The man who wrote those Training Day quotes, and proved his incredible talent as a filmmaker as the writer-director of End of Watch, impressed us even more when we met him in person.

And to hear the cast talk about Pitt, well, it might just make you want to jump into a tank with the superstar for the grueling shoot.

Click through and discover the 11 most riveting thing we learned about Ayer’s Fury.

And to get a hint as to what you’re in for from this astounding filmmaker, watch End of Watch online

The Cast Got Close During Training
Lerman stated that he was impressed with the attention to detail that Ayer employed leading up to the World War II set shoot. It proved priceless, also, in bonding the cast. "I would say we had a long training period for this film. David is kind of known for putting his actors through a pretty tough training process. We had months where we did so many different things to feel comfortable with this world that we were living in and also get to know each other," Lerman said. "Most importantly was that last week when we had to go through boot camp, and we got to know each other very well. We did become very close during that period of time."

Foxcatcher Trailer: Steve Carell Wants to Give America Hope

The first full length Foxcatcher trailer is here and it’s easy to see why after the film appeared at the Cannes Film Festival and then the Toronto International Film Festival people are using the phrase Oscar nominee to describe Steve Carell. Yup, that’s right!

The comic actor is stretching his wings and his power was evident even in that first Foxcatcher teaser trailer that arrived months ago.

Carell stars as John du Pont, the heir to the du Pont Chemical fortunate who put his fortune to work to feed his passion of wrestling, all in an effort to bring America gold in the sport at the Olympics.

Channing Tatum stars as Mark Schultz and Mark Ruffalo stars as his brother Dave, and the two were wrestling legends, and the pulling of Mark to du Pont for training would test their sibling bond and by the end, would result in murder.

Foxcatcher lands November 14 and we have a feeling we’ll have to revise that Top 13 Steve Carell movies when this thing comes out!

Disney has released a Big Hero 6 clip that introduces us to one of Hiro’s team, well, he will become a member of Hiro’s city-saving collective.

Meet Fred, a person who hangs around Hiro’s brother’s college because he is a “science enthusiast.” Really, he’s the college mascot, but believe you me, he will become a huge part of the adventure.

As the Big Hero 6 trailer teases, the story follows Hiro, a gifted robotics prodigy who may hold the key to keeping his beloved city of San Fransokyo from utter destruction.

The film stars Scott Adsit as Hiro, as well as Jamie Chung, Genesis Rodriguez, James Cromwell, Alan Tudyk, Maya Rudolph and as you met in the above clip, TJ Miller as Fred.

Look for Big Hero 6 from Disney, inspired by a comic book series from Marvel, on November 7.

Bill Murray Talks Ghostbusters: They're Trying to “Resurrect a Franchise!”

Bill Murray chimed in about the Ghostbusters all-female reboot in Toronto and gave his suggestions as to who would be good in the film. Now that it’s moving forward with Paul Feig directing, it’s about as good to go as the Ghostbusters 3 effort has been in years.

Bill Murray Ghostbusters

Murray has famously not wanted to come back to the franchise and you can imagine his thrill that they are in fact moving on without the original characters. When he got a Dan Aykroyd script for a potential Ghostbusters 3, he famously shredded it. Now, he’s talking about why and the future of the series.

"I read one that Danny wrote that was crazy bizarre and too crazy to comprehend. It was kind of funny, but not well executed," Murray told Variety.

The superstar, soon to be seen in St. Vincent, also finds it interesting that the entire thing is even a discussion. "The studio gets really crazy about it. What they really want to do is resurrect a franchise. The first one was a spectacular movie, one of the greatest movies,” Murray said.

But what about the sequel, Bill? “The second one was [makes an unimpressed sound]. It had some moves. It had a few good scenes in it. People say, ‘Bill, you could get so rich!' I’m ok. I don’t look it, but I’m doing ok."

He is still beyond proud of the work he did on the first film. He thinks it was lightning in a bottle, and trying to recapture it will only fail.

"Those guys, Danny and Harold (Ramis), were at the top of their game. They were burning nitro at that moment,” Murray said. “Unless you have a really clear vision, you’re always trying to recreate that."

Watch Ghostbusters online and it’s easy to see why Murray is so proud. And check out 30 fun facts about the making of that movie from 30 years ago in the slideshow below.

The LEGO Movie Franchise Plans: Revealed in Full!

Earlier today Warner Bros. and DC announced plans for their superhero movies through 2020, including solo Wonder Woman, The Flash and Aquaman movies. And they’re not done with the announcements. Now we have a clearer picture of what to expect from the follow-ups to The LEGO Movie.

The LEGO Movie Chris Pratt Is Emmet

Charlie Bean will direct The LEGO Movie: Ninjago, arriving in 2016, which will be produced by the original movie’s directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

Then in 2017, the Chris McKay-directed (he was the art director on The LEGO Movie) The LEGO Batman Movie will land in 2017, with the true sequel to The LEGO Movie, The LEGO Movie 2, arriving in 2018.

Given that The LEGO Movie banked over $468 million on a $60 million investment, it’s hardly a surprise that Warner Bros. has turned this thing into a franchise. And given how much people have a passion and seem to think that Everything is Awesome in the LEGO world, it seems a no-brainer that they would give us more.

But, what is surprising is how much they are looking past just a simple sequel and seeking to expand the LEGO movie world, almost exponentially. We here at Movie Fanatic, for one, could not be more excited.

While we wait for more LEGO brilliance, watch The LEGO Movie online and check out our favorite quotes from the flick in the slideshow below!

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has announced that their host for the 2015 Oscars will be someone who is all too familiar with killing it hosting award shows -- Neil Patrick Harris.

Neil Patrick Harris Oscar Photo

Show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced today that Harris is their choice to emcee the 87th Oscars on Sunday, February 22, 2015.

"We are thrilled to have Neil host the Oscars. We have known him his entire adult life, and we have watched him explode as a great performer in feature films, television and stage," said Zadan and Meron in a statement. “To work with him on the Oscars is the perfect storm, --all of his resources and talent coming together on a global stage."

Harris is over the moon as well. I mean, of course he is – it’s the biggest show on Earth!

“It is truly an honor and a thrill to be asked to host this year’s Academy Awards. I grew up watching the Oscars and was always in such awe of some of the greats who hosted the show,” said Harris. “To be asked to follow in the footsteps of Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, Ellen DeGeneres, and everyone else who had the great fortune of hosting is a bucket list dream come true.”

Harris brings major acting, singing, dancing and hosting skills to the event, and we’re sure that he will go down as one of the best. His work on the Tony Awards is legendary, with much of what he did on that New York award show that salutes Broadway going viral within minutes of him doing it.

Harris is currently starring with Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike in Gone Girl and count on him spoofing that movie at some point during the big show!

Stay tuned for more as this story develops. And let us know what you think of the choice!

Author Nicholas Sparks and producer Denise Dinovi have worked together for years to enormous success. As their latest page-to-screen effort, The Best of Me, is set to hit theaters, they sat down with Movie Fanatic for an exclusive video interview.

Sparks has had enormous success having his books hit the screens, most notably with those unforgettable and seemingly timeless The Notebook quotes, and he and Dinovi have another winner with The Best of Me -- honestly his best film since that Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams classic.

We asked the pair what it is about their relationship that is so fruitful. It is never an easy task bringing a novel to the screen and these two have it down pat.

Sparks also let us in on why the selection of director is so important to whether a film based on his books will work, and why Michael Hoffman was just beyond perfect for the film teased in the wildly romantic The Best of Me trailer.
