Brad Pitt and his battle-ready troops of Fury proved too much for Ben Affleck and his Gone Girl as the David Ayer World War II tank movie triumphed in its first week of release.
Fury took in $23.5 million in its opening weekend, besting the two-time box office champ that also stars Rosamund Pike as the title character.
Fury’s first weekend haul is the most for Ayer as a director!
Gone Girl is now officially director David Fincher’s highest earning film. With its second place finish and $17.8 million take, the film based on Gillian Flynn’s bestselling novel has grossed a total of 107.1 million.
Third place belonged to the fantastical animated gem, The Book of Life. That Fox film banked $17 million in its first week of release, and was followed by another family film in fourth place, Disney’s Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. That Steve Carell/Jennifer Garner film based on the iconic children’s book has now made $36.9 million in two weeks of release.
Closing out the top five is another new release, the film The Best of Me -- based on the Nicholas Sparks romance. The James Marsden-Michelle Monaghan starring heartstring-puller earned $10.2 million in its first weekend.

The Zero Theorem arrives from one of our favorite directors in Terry Gilliam. It stars Christoph Waltz and Lucas Hedges and as you can tell from The Zero Theorem trailer, it is nothing short of out of this world.
Hedges is a busy young man as The Zero Theorem is not is only of-late project. He is also seen as the son of Jeremy Renner in Kill the Messenger.
We caught up with Hedgers for an exclusive interview where we talked to the star of the film about working with Gilliam and what it is that makes the former member of Monty Python so visionary as a filmmaker.
Movie Fanatic: What was it about the story of The Zero Theorem that most compelled you when you got the script?
Lucas Hedges: I liked the futuristic dystopian aspect of it. I’m generally intrigued by that genre and coupled with the fact that Terry Gilliam was going to do this, that was all that I needed to be intrigued.
Movie Fanatic: What does it mean to you to be in a movie with Christoph Waltz?
Lucas Hedges: It means a lot. It genuinely feels like a dream that I worked with him. It honestly feels as if I didn’t work with him and I was dreaming because it was so out of the ordinary. It meant the world to me, and he is the best actor that I have ever worked with in my experience -- both in the fact that he has been nice to me and as an actor.
Movie Fanatic: Watching Mr. Waltz work, what did you take away from the experience as an actor?
Lucas Hedges: Christoph has a whole musical undertone to all of his performances. One of the biggest messages he gave me was a scene that is done right - and any theater or any film that is done right is just music. Your lines are notes and you are an instrument. And you're a violin and it only works if you play your piece in the orchestra.
Movie Fanatic: What is it about Terry Gilliam that makes him so special as a director?
Lucas Hedges: His vision. He is a visionary. He is one of the few visionaries in the last 50 years. His movies look different from other movies. They are different movies. He is an individual artist. He is unique.
Movie Fanatic: What do you look for in a script that makes you say "yes?”
Lucas Hedges: I look at my role -- to see if the role intrigues me. That is the most important thing. And I look at the people that I would be working with.
Movie Fanatic: What was it that made you want to be an actor? Was there a movie, an actor/actress?
Lucas Hedges: I saw Super 8 like five or four years ago. That movie was just - both the fact that it was in the 70s and the 70s are just a beautiful time period but the performances and the way in which it was done, it made me so incredibly happy. I wanted to do what those kids were doing -- I wanted to have the fun that they were having. It was beautiful -- it was real life.
Movie Fanatic: Who is your dream director? Besides Terry Gilliam -- Steve McQueen
Movie Fanatic: Who would be a dream co-star?
Lucas Hedges: Andrew Garfield!
Last week the movie world was rocked with excitement when Marvel announced that Robert Downey Jr. would be in Captain America 3. The Civil War storyline from the comics that will set up a split in our Avengers family with people taking sides in a battle between Captain America will arrive when the third Captain America movie lands May 6, 2016.
Downey was talking with Yahoo Movies and was asked about it the big news. “It’s going to be huge, whatever it is,” Downey said. “Yeah, that sounds very exciting.”
Of course, Avengers: Age of Ultron has to come first and we could not be more thrilled fro The Avengers sequel to land May 1, 2015.
When Downey was pressed for more details, he is clearly under strict orders to keep his mouth shut. He should know about the rules of being in the Marvel world, he essentially started this “super” ride with Iron Man back in 2008.
“If I do, I'll just regret it,” Downey said of providing more details!
This story is just beginning, stay with Movie Fanatic as it develops!

Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans are back as Cap and Thor each for their fourth time!
We’ve thought Jason Momoa would be Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice for some time, but it was never truly announced. Whenever the actor was asked about, he was coy with his response and it was one of the great mystery of the DC Comics-Warner Bros. world.
But now that DC Comics and Warner Bros. have announced a superhero slate through 2020 that includes a solo Aquaman movie, Momoa is free to not only admit that he is Aquaman, but he can share his thoughts and clear pride about being that water-based superhero who talks to marine life.
First, in his chat with ComicBook.com, he talked about his prided as a man of Polynesian decent to play such a man as Aquaman.
"I've rode some dolphins before, so I can pull on that. I did go to school for Marine Biology. The greatest thing for me is that Polynesians, our gods, Kahoali, Maui, all these water gods, so it's really cool and a honor to be playing a water character. And there's not too many brown superheroes -- so I'm really looking forward to representing the Polynesians, the natives,” Momoa said.
“My family are some of the greatest water men on earth. I'm not, but I'm going to go train with them. But it's really an honor just being a Polynesian. And water is the most important thing in this world and we all know it. It's cool be a part of DC's universe. I'm really excited to be with Warner Bros., and hopefully everyone likes it. And Zack Snyder's a genius, so I'm really excited to be hanging out with him."
And it is clear that Momoa found it quite the challenge to keep his mouth shut all this time, with what seemed like the world asking him about being Aquaman.
"I was asked to play it. You know, you audition and stuff like that, but the fact is you've just got to keep it quiet. I was just trying to respect Warner Bros. and everyone's wishes,” he said. “I'm really, really happy that I don't have to be quiet anymore, because that's really hard for me."
We know now that the Aquaman movie will arrive on July 27, 2018, but Momoa admitted that he knows little about it, and says that there are things that have to be taken care of first.
"I know about as much as you guys know. I know the Justice League will come first. That's really what we're going to focus on,” Momoa said.
Check out the world of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in the slideshow below, as we’re betting we’ll get our first glimpse of Aquaman in that film’s closing moments!

Steven Spielberg is without a doubt one of the greatest filmmakers Hollywood has ever seen.
He has directed many of the most iconic movies of all-time, and his legacy is firmly cemented. Yet, he still produces glory -- such as his last effort, the Oscar winning Lincoln.
We got our hands on some rare, behind-the-scenes photos of the Spielberg doing what he does best, making movies.
From his first films, such as 1974’s Sugarland Express with Goldie Hawn, through Jaws, Close Encounters, Raiders of the Lost Ark… the list goes on and on and on.

In 1974, Spielberg hooked up with recent Oscar winner Goldie Hawn and the two joined forces to create a film that would start to tease the director’s greatness.
You thought 22 Jump Street was done after collecting a U.S. box office total of $191 and a global gross of $327 million? And then there’s the upcoming release of the 22 Jump Street DVD on November 18, but 22 Jump Street is heading back to movie theaters on October 24.
Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill will be delighting audiences once again -- after killing it with those 21 Jump Street quotes -- as they leave high school undercover work behind and head to college to try to bust a drug ring.
“Clearly, audiences fell in love with these characters two years ago and this summer they showed the strong appetite for more adventures with the hilarious pairing of Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum,” said Rory Bruer, president, Worldwide Distribution for Sony Pictures.
“There's nothing like laughing out loud in a packed theater, so before the movie becomes available to own, we wanted to give moviegoers the chance to relive the experience on the big screen."
We truly agree as that is the case with horror movies and comedies in particular. There is nothing like sharing the experience with hundreds of people!
Check out our favorite 22 Jump Street quotes below and watch 21 Jump Street online to see how it all got started.
Captain Dickson: We Jump Street, and we 'bout to jump in yo ass.

Given that Leigh Whannell not only starred in the first two Insidious movies, he co-wrote them and co-created the series with helmer James Wan, it’s fantastic news for fans that he’s been giving the director’s chair for Insidious Chapter 3.
We’ve been given a series of behind-the-scenes photos of Whannell and his cast, including Dermot Mulroney and returning franchise fave Lin Shaye, that -- even though it’s a movie set -- are still quite scary!
The plot has also come a bit into focus from Focus Features (get it?!).
Looks like Elise (Shayne) reluctantly contacts the dead to aide a teenager (Stefanie Scott) who has had her share of troubles with those from the great beyond.
Look for Insidious Chapter 3 in theaters May 29, 2015 and until then, check out how the entire thing got started and watch Insidious online.

Fury topped the box office and gave Brad Pitt another number one movie and also proved to be the biggest debut for the film’s director David Ayer.
The World War II tank drama is a powerful piece of work and managed to give Pitt another set of great lines that people will be quoting for years to come.
And Pitt wasn’t alone in the great quote department, he is joined by all of his co-stars including Michael Pena, Jon Bernthal, Shai LaBeouf and Logan Lerman.
We culled a slew of Fury quotes and proudly present the 11 best from that riveting ensemble of actors.
Ayer’s last work also gave us some great lines, watch End of Watch online and see what we mean.

The latest Mockingjay Part 1 trailer is here! Where we were awe-struck by that recent Mockingjay Part 1 clip that showed Katniss returning home to District 12, this one has us genuinely ready to pick up her cross bow and join her fight.
The huge takeaway here is that Katniss might just still have feelings for Peeta (Josh Hutcherson)! As he appears in a video from the Capitol, he urges everyone to put down their weapons.
Liam Hemsworth’s Gale, on the other hand, has the other reaction to his speech -- utter repulsion. “I would rather die than say what he said,” he utters with passion.
We also get some great shots of what appears to be the true beginning of the revolution as Gale and Katniss take aim at some fighter jets and with one collective shot of their arrows, bring them down!
Mockingjay Part 1 lands in theaters everywhere November 21. To see where we left off, watch Catching Fire online.
Plutarch Heavensbee is playing both sides and we like the way this game master has "mastered" the "game."
As you can see from the Big Hero 6 trailer, Hiro is going to need some help if he’s going to do his best to save his beloved city of San Fransoyko from an evil madman who seeks to destroy it.
Disney has released a clip that introduces us to the nerdy college scientists who not only will become his friends, but part of his superhero collective that will become known as Big Hero 6.
The above clip introduces us to Honey Lemon (Genesis Rodriguez), Go Go Tomago (Jamie Chung) and Wasabi (Damon Wayans, Jr.). And we’ve already met T.J. Miller’s character in that Big Hero 6 Fred clip last week!
What we love so much about this team and this movie, is that these are superheroes who use their skills in science to create their heroic alter egos. It should be beyond inspiring for the young people of the world!
Big Hero 6 lands in theaters November 7 and stay with Movie Fanatic as we roll out our exclusive video interviews with the entire cast, including Baymax -- the lovable health care robot who will become a force for justice to be reckoned with!
Japanese culture is all over Big Hero 6, and that is certainly seen in this latest still.
You can imagine our thrills (and somewhat pause!) with the opportunity to witness the horror movie Ouija, based on the legendary board game, at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. What a perfect venue!
Then, we got to sit down with the leads Olivia Cooke, Shelley Hennig and Darren Kagasoff for an exclusive interview.
As teased in the Ouija trailer, Cooke plays a young woman whose BFF kills herself after playing the spooky game by herself. Cooke doesn’t believe it was suicide and with the help of her friends, uses the board game to talk to her spirit and discover the truth. It is then that they find that they have unlocked a horror much more sinister than they could ever have imagined.
We got the cast to reveal the scene in the film that truly spooked them, and also, what is it about horror movies that with all the horrors in the world coming at us on the evening news, that we still head into the dark and purposely scare ourselves.
“It’s a bonding experience,” Cooke teased.
Meanwhile, her co-star Hennig sees it as an opportunity to get closer to a special someone. “It’s also a good excuse for a guy to have a girl throw themselves on him!” she proudly stated.
Check out Ouija -- with someone you want to get close with -- when it hits theaters October 24.
Hey guys, given that this is a horror movie, is this "game" such a good idea to play in a dark deserted house where somebody killed themselves -- after playing the game!
The How to Train Your Dragon 2 DVD lands on November 11, and boy, do we have a treat for you today. It’s a bonus feature from the release that is a deleted clip from the blockbuster follow-up to How to Train Your Dragon that features Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and Toothless trying to convince a dragon catcher that humans and dragons can get along.
It also gives us a clue as to why our evil villain is doing what he’s doing. Filmmakers achieved that aspect through other means, but it is fascinating to see in the below clip how an animated film comes together. This is truly a concept rendering and the actors even recorded their lines, so it was ready to go!
This rare “story reel” shows how Hiccup does his best to change the mind of Eret (Kit Harrington) about how what he’s doing is wrong. Dragons are not meant to be captured and forcibly turned into a ferocious army.
Watch How to Train Your Dragon online to get ready for the big home video release next month!
The How to Train Your Dragon 2 poster features the entire gang. But, of course, Hiccup is front and center.

The man who created The Conjuring will be back for The Conjuring 2!
That’s right, James Wan has signed on to direct the horror sequel that will land in 2016. Although he stepped aside to let his creative partner Leigh Whannell helm Insidious: Chapter 3, we could not be more thrilled that Wan will return to helm the second The Conjuring.
Earlier this month we got a taste of what happened before The Conjuring with Annabelle. Now, news arrives that Wan will conclude his work on Fast and Furious 7 -- landing April 3, 2015 -- and then get to work on the sequel to the film that horror fans consider a true gem.
Look for The Conjuring to continue the tales told of the real-life couple, Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. No word on whether Annabelle will make an appearance!
Watch The Conjuring online to see what all the buzz is about and get ready for the next chapter of The Conjuring in 2016.
Keanu Reeves is back in John Wick and it is one heck of an action flick that plays right into the strengths of the actor.
We have been a fan of Reeves since his early days in the '80s and many of his films since then have become downright iconic.
But, which ones are his best?
We looked across his several decades of work and count down his top 15 flicks. Where will your favorites land and which one will be number one?
Watch Speed online and you know that action movie has to be on our list. And when you watch The Matrix online, one would hope (and you’d be right) that that sci-fi mindbender would be near or at the top.
And with those Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure quotes standing the test of time, where would that classic comedy arrive in our list?
Click through and discover out top 15 Keanu Reeves movies!
Keanu Reeves starring as a Samurai warrior in the 1800s? And he's playing one that holds the key to a legendary group of fighters getting justice for the murder of their leader? Boy, does it work. Reeves got back to the action genre with magnificent moves we haven’t seen from him since he realized “I know Kung Fu†in The Matrix.
When we caught up with Guillermo del Toro for his producing effort with The Book of Life, we had to ask about the latest with his highly anticipated sequel to Pacific Rim, Pacific Rim 2. His next film -- that he told us about in our Crimson Peak exclusive interview -- has completed shooting and now he’s just working on effects.
Does that mean that Pacific Rim 2 is next?
“No, I actually start with the Strain (his TV show) in November -- and I’m going to be shooting Creature Unit and Action Unit and I’ll be shooting the Mexican black and white footage that appears in the movie, the series,” del Toro said.
"Then I shoot a little movie. I start prepping Pac Rim immediately in May and we start production at end of November, early December.”
Del Toro tells us that Charlie Hunnam will be in Pacific Rim 2, reprising his role from the first film. Hunnam is also in Crimson Peak. Del Toro compares Hunnam to another actor del Toro works with a lot, Ron Perlman.
“I work with him the way I work with Ron. He’s part of the family. It’s a great, effortless collaboration. Love him,” del Toro said.
“The cast experience doing Crimson Peak has been unique in my career honestly. I think that other than Pan’s Labyrinth, I haven’t enjoyed the entire cast as much as I did on Crimson. Those are the two movies where everybody delivered.”
Del Toro then explained why he would be making a small independent film instead of jumping right into Pacific Rim 2.
“I dress like (expletive). I don’t drive a Porsche. I live in the Valley. I don’t want to live in Beverly Hills. The goal is to make the movies that I want to make and support the people I want to support. That’s it,” del Toro admitted.
“I managed to have as many rubber monsters as I need. That’s enough for me. Making small movies means you love the effort. When you make big movies the effort is fighting for freedom. When you make small movies it’s about making the day, making the budget. When you get all the money and all the freedom, rarely you get the movie you want out of it.”
Check out our wildly artistic poster gallery below for del Toro's latest, the in theaters now The Book of Life and get ready for the big-time sequel that everybody's waiting for and watch Pacific Rim online.
Channing is the man with the most awesome of mustaches. Seriously, it's amazing! He plays the town hero and appears to be destined to get, not earn, Zoe Saldana's heart.
Snowpiercer is one stunning piece of work, and one of our top 17 movies of summer 2014. And if you missed the Chris Evans starring role that finds him as a whole different kind of hero than he is in the Captain America movies, what with all those other summer flicks demanding attention, now’s your chance as Snowpiercer has arrived on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download.
As teased in the Snowpiercer trailer, Evans is part of the “back of the train” on a speeding-across-the-globe vehicle that is carrying the last remnants of humanity. After a last-ditch effort to fix global warming actually does the opposite and sends the world into an Ice Age worse than the first one, a man invents a train that can run forever and whoever is left gets onboard.
And like the world itself, it is separated by class, wealth, privilege and lack thereof. As would be expected, after 10 years of living like this under an authoritarian grip, a revolution is brewing. It’s a question of when, not if, and by whom will lead? That’s where Evans comes in.
The film astounds, as we reported in our theatrical Snowpiercer review. It raises many questions about our society as a whole and also is unbelievably entertaining. It is the most original science fiction film we’ve seen since The Matrix. Yes, those are heady words.
Snowpiercer’s cast is astounding. Evans is absolutely riveting and the arc his character goes through serves as the eyes, ears and soul of the audience. It’s as if we’ve living through him on this out-of-this world adventure that is still very much of this world.
But the performer who steals the entire movie is Tilda Swinton.
