Marvel Reveals Movie Titles Through 2019: Avengers 3, Inhumans & Captain Marvel Announced!

0

The news was huge and Movie Fanatic was supremely impressed. We attended an event at Hollywood’s El Capitan theater this morning and were treated to the magic of Marvel on many levels.

Marvel Studios Movie Logo

Kevin Feige, the studio’s head, took to the stage and announced plans for the close of Phase 2 and then the full slate of movies for Phase 3.

The highlights… how about a Black Panther movie (starring Chadwick Boseman) and a Captain Marvel movie?

That is historic as it means that we now have our first African-American and female superhero solo movies coming from the comic book giant.

Their Marvel saga has a clear plan as it was also announced that Doctor Strange will arrive, as planned, but that he will be joined by a moved-up Guardians of the Galaxy 2 release date, as well as a third chapter for Thor that is being called Thor: Ragnarok!

And for those who are fans of the Norse god, we all know that that subtitle means the end of everything. Color us intrigued!

But, central to their world, it appears, is still The Avengers.

It was previously announced that Robert Downey Jr. will be in Captain America 3, and we now have an official title for that flick and it’s Captain America: Civil War.

Yup, the rift in The Avengers is real. And that will set up their two-part third Avengers film, now titled Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War Part 2.

Here’s the breakdown of movie titles and when we can expect them. More on this announcement including our Q&A with Feige coming very soon!

  • May 1, 2015: Avengers Age of Ultron
  • July 17, 2015: Ant-Man
  • May 6, 2016: Captain America Civil War
  • November 4, 2016: Doctor Strange
  • May 5, 2017: Guardians of the Galaxy 2
  • July 28, 2017: Thor Ragnarok
  • November 3, 2017: Black Panther
  • May 4, 2018: Avengers Infinity War Part 1
  • July 6, 2018: Captain Marvel
  • November 2, 2018: Inhumans
  • May 3, 2019: Avengers Infinity War Part 2

Marvel also gave us the logos for all the above titles, check them out in the slideshow below!

Avengers Age of Ultron Scene Revealed: What Did We See?

0
0

With the big Marvel announcement this morning with new title and sequels announced through 2019, we were also treated to a never-before-seen scene from Avengers: Age of Ultron. And it won’t be the one that will be revealed tonight on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.!

Avengers: Age of Ultron Logo

Now that we know that Robert Downey Jr. will be in Captain America 3, and that it will be called Captain America: Civil War, there will be a rift between our Avengers. Our superheroes will have to choose sides between Captain America and Iron Man.

In the scene we saw, it appears that that rift is clearly beginning in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Downey and Chris Evans are outside a rural home just doing what guys do in the wilderness, you know… chopping wood.

They have a discussion about “dark sides” and how Tony Stark believes that every single one of us has one. Stark then says that he doesn’t trust a person who doesn’t have a dark side, clearly talking to his friend who is Mr. All-American.

Evans drops his axe, picks up a log and splits it in half with his bare hands and simply says, “Maybe you haven’t seen it yet.”

Boom! Civil War started… but of course, as teased in Avengers: Age of Ultron teaser trailer, they have to first defeat that evil robot. That, we should point out, is only upon us because of something Stark did! Another spoke in that rift wheel between Cap and Stark!

Marvel Answers: When Will We See Loki Next?

0
0

Loki is no question not only one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most popular villains, he’s one of their most popular characters. Heck, one could argue he’s one of the most love to hate him villains in all of the movie world!

Thor: The Dark World Tom Hiddleston

So, when can we see Tom Hiddleston’s movie alter ego next?

According to Marvel Studio head Kevin Feige, look for Loki to return in Thor: Ragnarok, he revealed to us at the Marvel event that saw them announce their titles through 2019.

Last we saw him, Loki was taking the throne of Asgard after some serious bait and switch work, which can be seen when you watch Thor: The Dark World online

Feige also told us that the events of Thor: Ragnarok take place immediately following the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron. And for those who are familiar with either the Thor comic books or even Norse mythology, yes, the name Ragnarok means the apocalyptic battle that will result in the utter destruction of Asgard. Of course, Thor is the only one who can stop it.

The Marvel Studio head also compared this third Thor film to Captain America: The Winter Soldier and how the Russo brothers were brilliantly able to completely reinvent the Marvel would in one incredible cinematic stroke. Look for Thor: Ragnarok to do the same thing.

And with the reveal at the end of the presentation that Infinity War would be the title of the third Avengers film, and an image of Thanos holding the Infinity Gauntlet.

Kevin Feige Says No Hulk or Black Widow Solo Films… Yet!

0

So, Marvel went nuclear today in the best of ways. That explosion you heard was their announcement of the Marvel Studio slate of films through 2019. It’s an impressive list that includes two firsts, an African American solo superhero film in Black Panther starring Chadwick Boseman and the first female superhero movie with Captain Marvel.

Avengers Age of Ultron Hulk Black Widow Concept Art

But, what it didn’t include was a Hulk or Black Widow solo movie.

Feige, commenting on that fact, told us that both characters are huge players in the Avengers world and that their focus currently is on introducing the world to new characters, like the ones in Inhumans.

“I wouldn’t say he’s absent from the timeline, I’d say Hulk is going to appear in many of those movies, particularly all those Avengers movies leading up to 2019 and Infinity War. Mark Ruffalo is on board for all those films, and we’re excited to bring him to those films,” Feige said.

“What happens with a standalone Hulk film? I’ll only say what I would have said about Black Panther last week or Captain Marvel the week before that, or Doctor Strange the week before that, or Guardians of the Galaxy two years ago, or Ant-Man ten years ago: we’ll see. We’d love to do it, we’d love to find the place to put it, but right now, Hulk will be appearing, with his friends, in their films.”

Earlier this year Feige said that a Black Widow movie would be a when, not if. But, now it appears that if may be returning to the table.

“It’s about bringing new characters to the screen. Black Widow couldn’t be more important as an Avenger, herself. Like Hulk, the Avengers films will be the films where they play a primary role. Her part in Avengers: Age of Ultron is very big, and further develops and further enhances her character,” Feige said.

“The plans that we have for her throughout the rest of the Avengers saga is very very big, and lynchpin, in fact, to those films. So instead of taking her out there, or instead of doing a prequel, which we haven’t done yet, continuing the forward momentum and the continuity of the cinematic universe. Of which Widow is a key, key part.”

So, Hulk and Black Widow next in Avengers: Age of Ultron and then Avengers: Infinity War? Until then, watch The Avengers online for your Hulk and Black Widow fix.

Avengers Age of Ultron Clip: It's Hammer Time!

Hot on the heels of the release of the Avengers: Age of Ultron teaser trailer and Movie Fanatic reporting on the clip Marvel showed us earlier today at their presentation, a whole new clip debuted tonight during Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and we’ve got it!

The clip features the entire Avengers team sitting around Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) penthouse kicking back and having a few cocktails. The subject of Thor and his hammer and “who is worthy” comes up and as tends to happen when people are drinking, a game of one-upmanship commences.

But, seriously, this is Thor’s hammer! Yet... note who almost gets it to move?!

Marvel revealed their superhero films through 2019 today, but it all truly gets started on May 1, 2015 with Avengers: Age of Ultron. And from what we’ve seen so far… we are supremely impressed.

Deliver Us From Evil DVD Review: Demon Detective Delivers

0
0

A Halloween treat has arrived on home video this week with the release of Deliver Us From Evil on DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital Download. The horror film starring Eric Bana as the real life NYPD detective who investigates a series of occult related crimes, with the help of an exorcist priest, is right up the alley for anyone looking for a good scare.

Deliver Us From Evil DVD

Scott Derrickson (Sinister) is back at the horror genre again, before he tackles Doctor Strange, and his love for the genre coupled with producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s love of police procedurals provides an interesting mix of police detective storyline with a demon possession angle. Clearly the latter storyline dominates this film and it largely succeeds in that facet, as we reported in our theatrical Deliver Us From Evil review.

Sergeant Ralph Sarchie hooks up with Father Mendoza (Edgar Ramirez) as the two delve into a world that is terrorizing some and truly haunting Sarchie. The evil he is pursuing is different than the scum of the earth he usually puts away in jail. This terror even follows him home to his wife (Olivia Munn) and their child.

Derrickson is such a master and also a student of the horror world, so we recommend watching the film and then witnessing it again with his audio commentary. His insight into the highly specialized world of making horrors movies is utterly fascinating and a master class in macabre moviemaking. (That is why we are more than thrilled he’s tackling Marvel’s first foray into the supernatural world with Doctor Strange).

Deliver Us From Evil Eric Bana

In terms of behind-the-scenes bonus features, the highlight is Deliver Us From Demons. It chronicles the making of the horror-thriller for its early inception with Sarchie’s book, through casting and how all of that prep work added up to their collective effort at bringing to life a realistic and believably bombastic demonic feel to their film. This is a movie that is based in the true case files of Sarchie and as such, if the “horror” of it all doesn’t translate, this thing is as D.O.A. as one of the victims of the demon in the film!

The Two Sergeants also is a treat in that it shows how Sarchie worked with Bana and how the two connected on a level that produced one of Bana’s best performances. Again, Sarchie’s story is real and Bana had to get inside the man, in order to effectively bring his thrilling and truly haunting story to life.

And then Sarchie himself gets an intriguing featurette, The Demon Detective.

Sarchie has since retired and is working with a series of priests that are essentially a composite for Martinez’s character. Following him along in his work with this featurette, one can see how the difference between the evil that men (and women) do to one another and that evil that is beyond that of human kind. Sarchie is a truly interesting fellow, and this bonus feature delves even deeper into his world than just the Deliver Us From Evil story.

15 Actresses Who Would Be Super as Captain Marvel: A Female First!

There was lots to take in at the Marvel presentation where numerous new titles were announced (Black Panther! Inhumans!)

But the story of Carol Danvers and her life as Captain Marvel could be the most surprising and utterly delightful of them all.

Captain Marvel Pic

Now, the question turns to: Who should play the first Marvel female superhero to get a solo movie that lands July 6, 2018?

Movie Fanatic narrowed the list down to 15 actresses and each could make a compelling and kick-ass Captain Marvel.

After we reveal them in the slideshow below, we want you to vote in our poll at the bottom of this page and let us know who you think should don the super-heroine costume and make history!

Want a clue as to who one of them are? Watch Edge of Tomorrow online and there she is kicking some serious butt!

Yvonne Strahovski
Yvonne Strahovski has major geek cred with her work on the TV show Chuck. She's also perfect for the role with her vast action scene skills shown in that cult TV hit and several films as well. For us, she embodies Captain Marvel marvelously.

Now, it's your turn.

Who should play Captain Marvel?

Foxcatcher Poster: Channing Tatum, Steve Carell & Mark Ruffalo For the Win

The moment that first Foxcatcher trailer premiered, we thought this thing had Oscar written all over it.

And now that we’ve seen it, that feeling has only intensified about this movie that tells the true story of John du Pont, his passion for U.S. Olympic wrestling and the tragedy that would conclude his mentoring of gold medal winners Mark and Dave Schultz.

Steve Carell mesmerizes (and should easily cruise to his first Oscar nod) as du Pont. Channing Tatum astounds as Mark, and he too should be hearing a Best Supporting Actor nomination nod coming his way. Then there’s the beautifully sublime performance of Mark Ruffalo as Dave -- he too should be getting serious consideration for a Best Supporting nomination.

Sony Pictures Classics has released the first poster for Foxcatcher featuring all three stars and it could not be more indicative of the film itself.

Foxcatcher is from director Bennett Miller, who wowed us with another true sports story, Moneyball.

Don’t miss Foxcatcher in theaters November 14.

Terminator Genisys: Covers Entertainment Weekly, New Details Revealed!

We’ve got our first true look at Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jason Clarke as John Connor and a Dr. Who (Matt Smith) as a mysterious, yet-to-be-identified character. The film Terminator: Genisys has been given the high honor of adorning the cover of this week’s Entertainment Weekly with two different covers.

Inside the mag, the cast also gave insight into the film that is neither a reboot nor a sequel -- but still stars the original Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Emilia Clarke talked about how Schwarzenegger’s Terminator fits into the movie.

Apparently in this timeline, Connor was orphaned as a nine-year-old and has been raised by Arnold’s T-800, whom she calls “pops.” Clarke says that this incarnation of the Schwarzenegger iconic character is "programmed to guard rather than to kill."

One thing does remain constant -- Sarah Connor’s persona. She’s "great with a sniper rifle but not so skilled at the nuances of human emotion."

The character that the former Dr. Who, Smith, is portraying has remained a true mystery, but he did talk about what to expect from the film overall.

"It's like going on tour again if you’re Pink Floyd -- the audience always wants to hear some of the old songs. There are enough nods to the past that people will feel satisfied," Smith said.

Nightcrawler Exclusive: Jake Gyllenhaal on Past & Future “Colliding”

Jake Gyllenhaal gives the performance of his life in Nightcrawler. We got a chance to sit down with the superstar actor (sure to get an Oscar nod for the electric and totally bonkers turn) for an exclusive video interview.

The actor talks about what it was that appealed to him about the story, teased in the Nightcrawler red band trailer, of a man who is lost and finds his way and triumphs in the most unlikely of ways.

Gyllenhaal’s Lou becomes the titular character, a person who prowls the streets of LA with his video camera in hand capturing the absolute worst in humanity for the morning local news.

We found the film a great companion piece for his work that can be seen when you watch End of Watch online

Gyllenhaal agreed, and even talked about how preparation for his work in End of Watch seemed to serendipitously prepare him for what he would do in Nightcrawler. “I already had done so much preparation with ride alongs for five months with police officers for End of Watch, and there were stringers filming it,” Gyllenhaal said.

“This movie I had no idea I would end up doing in the future was colliding with this movie that I was preparing for now.”

Nightcrawler lands in theaters October 31. Do. Not. Miss. It.

Avengers Infinity War Teaser Trailer: Thanos Wields Infinity Gauntlet

With the Marvel presentation that revealed their superhero lineup through 2019, including a Black Panther movie, a Captain Marvel movie (who should play Captain Marvel?) and the name for the Captain America and Thor third films, we were also treated to a visual tease of Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2.

Now, we have it for you! Enjoy.

Sure, it’s a complete and utter tease, but the true payoff is at the end.

The camera slowly turns around a massive hand, and on that hand are some bright and shiny items. And yes, that’s Thanos and he has the Infinity Gauntlet.

Our world will never be the same. And that’s exactly how Marvel head Kevin Feige had planned it all along.

“We’ve always had a plan since Nick Fury broke into Tony Stark’s house and told him he’s part of a bigger universe,” Feige said to us yesterday.

Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 is the beginning of the culmination of everything that has come before.”

Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 lands May 4, 2018 and Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 hits May 3, 2019.

The Road to Furious 7: Location, Location, Location!

The latest tease for the November 1 release of the Furious 7 trailer lands in the form of a look back at the fantastic locations that have served as the landscape for the first six movies in the Fast and Furious franchise. In the below video the cast, including star Vin Diesel, talks about their favorite places to shoot over the years.

It must be a hard choice to make! Given that the background for some of the most fantastical race car scenes ever captured on film have included the likes of Brazil, Tokyo and, yes, even London. Having driven the streets of the British capital, we are amazed that they were able to shoot such a powerful and utterly electric car chase in that mad house that is the roadways of Londontown (one of our favorite car chases of all time!).

Stay with Movie Fanatic all week as we look deeper into one of the most popular franchises in movie history -- all leading up to the premiere of the Furious 7 trailer.

And to get you in the mood, why not watch Fast and Furious 6 online.

Interstellar Clip: Matthew McConaughey & Useless Machines

0

The first clip from Interstellar has arrived and it is a brilliant choice. Instead of showing us some of the astounding visuals of outer space exploration, like we see in the Interstellar trailer, this moment is much more grounded… and personal.

Matthew McConaughey stars and in the below scene, he’s just a father – who has been called to his daughter’s school to discuss one of her issues. The only problem is, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree and the Interstellar star has issues of his own with the school and its simplistic ways of thinking.

Interstellar also stars Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Michael Caine and arrives in select theaters November 5, and then opens nationwide on November 7.

Although the above clip is quite Earth bound, the story is much more layered than that. Sure, McConaughey leads a space mission to the outer reaches of the galaxy to find a new home for humans. But, in the end, this scene says much about how this story is about family.

Terminator Genisys Photos: Arnold Schwarzenegger Is Back!

We got our first look at Terminator: Genisys yesterday with those Entertainment Weekly covers, and today… we have a look inside. Yes, this is the first photos of the actors in action in the Terminator movie that is not a sequel and not quite a reboot!

One thing is congruent with the films that began with James Cameron’s classic in 1984 and that is Arnold Schwarzenegger. We’ve got our first photo of him in character and it is kinda exciting to see the guy back in the leather jacket, toting a shotgun.

We even learn about one shot that director Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) and producer David Ellison talk about inside the issue. Remember when Arnie emerges from the Griffith Observatory? We get to see that again.

"It's the holy grail of visual effects," Producer David Ellison told EW. "You create a walking, breathing human that doesn't exist."

Taylor was up for the challenge of adding his stamp to a legendary Hollywood franchise. "Part of the challenge is to dazzle people with something they haven't seen before. There are elements in our main villain that are straining the capacities of our brilliant visual-effects people,” Taylor said. “So that's a good sign."

Click through the slideshow below and witness Terminator: Geneisys stars Jason Clarke as John Connor, Emily Clarke as Sarah Connor and Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese. And we’ve also got a set photo of an old friend getting ready for action.

Kevin Feige Talks Marvel Cinematic Universe: Tackling Truth and Rumors

0
0

After Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige presented the Marvel full movie schedule through 2019, including reveals about a Black Panther movie starring Chadwick Boseman, an Avengers “end game” with Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2, a Captain Marvel movie and so much more, the comic book movie house leader with the Midas touch met reporters to answer questions about the entire blockbuster day.

Kevin Feige Robert Downey Jr Chadwick Boseman Chris Evans Photo

With all the announcements that DC Comics and Warner Bros. made in regards to their superhero movie schedule recently, it would seem that Marvel convening us all here at the El Capitan Theatre for its superhero movie slate through 2019 was reactionary.

After following Marvel for just over a decade now, we knew that couldn’t be further from the truth. This is a company, under Feige, who has always had one eye on the future, and well into the future at that.

“We wanted to do this at Comic-Con this year, and things were not set. Things for Civil War were not set yet. Guardians of the Galaxy hadn’t come out yet. So, the comfort with dating a few of the other movies wasn’t set yet,” Feige revealed.

“We realized we weren’t going to be able to do everything we wanted to do, so we decided, ‘Okay, let’s do something we either haven’t done in a long time or had never done -- which is a singular event just to announce what we have when it’s ready.’ And I thought that might be early August, I thought that might be September, and it ended up being today.”

The rumors in the previous days were that a deal with Benedict Cumberbatch to be Doctor Strange was in place. But, it hasn’t been signed. We got to meet Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, but there was no Doctor Strange.

“I can say that if it were confirmed we would have introduced him today,” Feige said to questions about whether the actor will be the supernatural superhero. “Like everything else, that will be announced later this afternoon, next week, next month -- sometime before the release of the movie in November 2016.”

Kevin Feige Marvel Photo

Speaking of casting, we wondered who would play Captain Marvel? Guess that we have to have some patience on that one. “My guess is rumors will start flying this second,” Feige said and laughed.

Who will be confirmed first, he said, is more likely people behind the camera. “The initial announcement, in terms of attachments for that film, will probably be writer announcements and director announcements, which I do actually expect will be quite soon. In terms of the actress, I think there’s more time on that.”

It was announced that Black Panther and Captain Marvel will be getting their own solo movies, but Feige also let us know that we will first meet Black Panther beforehand in other films!

“He is definitively a big part of Civil War. We will meet him for the first time in Civil War, in costume,” Feige said.

Speaking of Civil War, the studio head cautioned that although the story is rooted in the comics, this is Civil War via Marvel Studios, not Marvel Comics.

“Make no mistake, this is the Civil War of the Cinematic Universe, which will be greatly inspired by the Civil War of the comic universe, but we have different continuity going on,” Feige said. “So this will be Civil War, based off of all the other films that you’ve seen up till this point -- particularly Winter Soldier and particularly Age of Ultron.”

Well, then, how will Feige’s Civil War work?

“I don’t want to give too much away, but needless to say -- the generalities of the act are the same," Feige said.

"Something happens -- perhaps it’s cumulative through things that have happened through all of the movies leading up to this point that has made the governments of the world say, ‘We need to have some oversight of these guys. They need to report to somebody.’”

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Photo: Bennet Sisters Ready for Battle!

Just in time for Halloween, the first photo from Pride and Prejudice and Zombies has arrived and trust us, you’ve never seen Jane Austen’s Bennet sisters quite like this.

The bestselling book by Seth Grahame-Greene is coming to the big screen with Elizabeth (Lily James), Lydia (Ellie Bamber), Mary (Millie Brady), Jane (Bella Heathcote) and Kitty (Suki Waterhouse) ready to deal with the zombie infestation that has plagued their Regency-era hamlet.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies will arrive in theaters sometime next year and also features Lena Headey, Charles Dance, Matt Smith, Jack Huston, Sam Riley (Maleficent) and Douglas Booth.

For those who are wondering… Riley will be Mr. Darcy!

“The first thing I did was reinsert all the Pride and Prejudice beats,” screenwriter Burr Steers told EW.

“Even in the original story, Elizabeth’s a fighter and beyond her contemporaries in her ambitions and her ideas of women. She’s a badass warrior. She’s a ninja.”

Nightcrawler Exclusive: Rene Russo Explores Local News’ Underbelly

0
0

Rene Russo had a front row seat to the brilliant collaboration that was director and lead actor for her latest film, Nightcrawler.

Star Jake Gyllenhaal worked extremely closely with director Dan Gilroy and the two (and Russo) have triumphed in one of the best pictures of the year.

We caught up with Russo for an exclusive interview where she talked about that magical set experience, led by her director (who is also her husband!).

As you can see in the Nightcrawler red band trailer, this film follows Gyllenhaal’s title character, a man who drives all over Los Angeles every night with video camera in hand, ready to capture the bloodiest, most horrible images he can find -- all for Russo’s local morning news show.

Their collaboration will send ratings through the roof and fatefully lock Russo and Gyllenhaal’s characters in a morally questionable professional relationship that is if nothing else, fruitful in the most vilely successful ways.

Which led us to our question, given Russo’s research into the subject of local news and its practices, why do audiences claim to want good news from their broadcasts, yet the most awful of stories get the best ratings? “That’s a good question,” Russo said.

Even many of the studios that Gilroy took it to wanted the movie changed, perhaps to hide the truth about the public’s innate appetite for the grimmest of news stories.

“They just wanted it so typical,” Russo said of the studios where the film was shopped. “Danny just wouldn’t do it.”

Thankfully so, as this film is absolutely one don’t-miss movie. Nightcrawler hits theaters October 31 -- stay with Movie Fanatic as our review goes live tomorrow.
