Big Hero 6 Exclusive: Genesis Rodriguez & Jamie Chung Chat Female Superheroes!

Big Hero 6 is storming into theaters as the next great animated film from Disney and we went to Disney Animation in Burbank to exclusively talk to two of its stars in a video interview.

Genesis Rodriguez and Jamie Chung play Honey Lemon and Go Go, respectively, and not only are they astute scientists, but they become part of the superhero team of the title.

Both reveled in Disney’s inclusion of female characters that not only can save the day, but be brilliant along the way as well.

“I’ve played strong female character before, but never a robotics engineer,” Chung said.

Rodriguez appreciated how Big Hero 6 not only had female superheroes well represented, something in short supply in the world, but also females who are as brilliant in science as their male counterparts. In fact, she is one of those in real life.

“I have a love of science as well. I used to be on a robotics team,” Rodriguez said. “This is my love and to see a character that is written that way, it was great.”

The pair also dish their joy at joining the Disney family and even chime in and tell us what are their favorite Disney movies!

As teased in the Big Hero 6 trailer, the film follows a young robotics prodigy, Hiro, as he realizes a threat to his beloved city, San Fransokyo, and assembles a team of fellow geniuses to stop a mad man. It comes from the beloved comic by Marvel and we’ll have more exclusive content from this flick all week, including a chat with Baymax!

Dumb and Dumber To Clips: Five Stupidly Funny Moments

Dumb and Dumber To is set to bring its stupidity onto audiences on Novmeber 14 and when news arrived that after 20 years Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels would reprise their roles from Dumb and Dumber, legions of fans went utterly fanatical.

Now that the film is just on the horizon, they are probably ready to utter one of the most famous of Dumb and Dumber quotes, “I like it a lot!” And given what was teased in that Dumb and Dumber To trailer, it appears that Carrey and Daniels, along with filmmakers the Farrelly brothers, are more than willing to give us even more dumb-ness, all in the name of making us laugh.

Universal has released five clips from Dumb and Dumber To and each is dumber (in a good way) that the last.

First up, we have a scene where Harry shows Lloyd their old apartment. And yes, Harry introduces Lloyd to his new friend, simply named Butthole.

Our second clip is a scene where Harry goes to a funeral parlor to question a former love (Kathleen Turner) about where his long lost daughter is… and they have a drink, of what they clearly don’t know – or care!

Our middle clip features the boys inquiring as to where they can find Harry's daughter. We'll let it speak for itself.

The fourth clip finds the boys back on the road, and they have Rob Riggle along to make sure things go smoothly (which clearly we all know they won’t). And they play a little game of He Who Dealt It.

Finally, the boys get to their destination and Lloyd has to explain his qualifications.

Horrible Bosses 2 Photos: Graduating From Murder to Kidnapping!

Warner Bros. released a slew of Horrible Bosses 2 photos and it’s the rare movie still that can make you laugh and this series does just that. The moment we saw that first Horrible Bosses 2 trailer, we knew that the team behind the Jason Sudeikis, Jason Bateman and Charlie Day unlikely 2010 hit had hatched a plan to create a comedy sequel that works.

Bateman, Day and Sudeikis are back and it’s hard to believe they could ever find themselves with a new set of Horrible Bosses after what they went through in the last film (which of course gave us such deliciously funny Horrible Bosses quotes).

But when they create their own product (The Shower Buddy) and become their own bosses, they need an investor and that arrives in the form of Christoph Waltz and his son, Chris Pine. Yup, they’re Horrible Bosses!

Jennifer Aniston also returns and as you can see from the slideshow below, she’s up to her old tricks… even though she appears to be reformed. Jamie Foxx is back too as he helps the boys get revenge and this time out, they’ve graduated from murder to kidnapping.

And yes, we realize that it usually goes the other way around.

It was rumored for weeks, that Daniel Radcliffe would be in Now You See Me 2. Now, we know that where there was smoke, there is defiantly fire as the former Harry Potter star has been “officially” added to the cast of Now You See Me 2.

Daniel Radcliffe What If

And Radcliffe is not alone. He is joined in the ranks of new to the cast, by Lizzy Caplan, (Masters of Sex, the upcoming The Interview) and Jay Chou (Taiwanese mega star).

Radcliffe is set to play a character named Walter (we think he’s Michael Caine’s son), Caplan will be Lula (who is stepping in for a had-to-exit-cause-she’s pregnant Isla Fisher) and Chou will portray a mysterious character named Li.

Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco and Caine all reprise their roles from the surprise hit. Directing this time out will be Jon M. Chu (GI Joe: Retaliation).

Kevin Costner is one of our favorite actors, but he’s especially “in the zone” when he’s in sports movies. Just watch Field of Dreams online and there’s an absolute favorite.

He’s back in the sports movie genre with an astounding true story, McFarland, USA. Costner plays the coach of a poor rural school’s track team that finds that its identity as a mostly Latino community, is truly its strength. Once they embrace who they are, Costner and his team of coaches inspire not only the track team to greatness, but an entire community.

Chappie Trailer: Neill Blomkamp's Back!

For fans of director Neill Blomkamp, he can do no wrong – judging by his first two wide release films, District 9 and Elysium. Now that the trailer for his latest, Chappie, has landed, it appears that the filmmaker is ever expanding his world and tapping into emotions that will surely rise to the surface, even just from this teaser.

Sharlto Copley stars as the title character, and he’s a robot who has the mentality of a little boy. Blomkamp has given his good friend and star of his previous two films something extraordinary to work with in this story that chronicles how in our supposedly advanced world, even something as different as a robot with human emotions could possibly make us fearful.

The all-star cast includes Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) and Sigourney Weaver.

Look for Chappie March 6, 2016 and in the meantime, watch Elysium online and revel in Blomkamp’s brilliance.

The Penguins of Madagascar are back and they’ve got their own flick. And what is truly fascinating about this is that this quartet of guys who were first introduced in the Madagascar movie several years ago, has become the runaway stars of the series.

And, I mean, why wouldn’t they? They’re like four James Bonds wrapped in a cute little package... What’s not to love?

DreamWorks Animation has released the film’s latest trailer and it also shows how the world of the Penguins of Madagascar has expanded to include a supervillain (an Octopus voiced by John Malkovich) and a new group of heroes called The North Wind (led by Benedict Cumberbatch).

Of course, our favorite animated penguins feel they don’t need any help. They can save the world from Dave (yeah, that’s the octopus’ name!)… or can they?

The Big Hero 6 trailer teases a world where a young robotics prodigy, Hiro, assembles a group of friends and uses their savvy science ways to turn themselves into superheroes and try to save their city of San Fransokyo from a mad man who seeks to destroy it.

We went to Disney Animation Studios in Burbank to talk to the man who plays the main character who is in almost every scene of the movie. Ryan Potter stars as Hiro and said he found an instant connection with the character, and boy does it come through on every frame.

“I’m very much like Hiro in the sense that we wear our hearts on our sleeves,” Potter said. “Hiro goes through many emotional arcs and there were many scenes that were my own personal experience and I was just lending them to Hiro.”

There are many resonant themes throughout Big Hero 6, but Potter said he zeroed in on one that is especially universal. “I liked the message that family isn’t necessarily the ones your born with. You can also find family. You can build family where you find it.”

Potter also dishes what he thinks it is about why people are just going gaga for his robotic friend in the movie, Baymax

The original Ghostbusters have finally reunited!

Of course, it’s not for a movie as we know that Paul Feig is directing an all-female Ghostbusters reboot. This collection of Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver and Ernie Hudson was for the annual Reunions Issue for Entertainment Weekly.

And either these stars are great actors (which they are), or they are genuinely happy to be back together again. Of course, Murray commented on Aykroyd’s proposed Ghostbusters 3 script recently and that wasn’t so rosy, but hey, this is about the original movie that gave us those Ghostbusters quotes and became a film icon.

It’s great to see the gang back together, even wearing Ghostbusters garb. Watch Ghostbusters online and see them in the movie that made them legends, and witness the missing link that is so sorely lacking in that Entertainment Weekly cover, the late Harold Ramis.

11 Best Nightcrawler Quotes: Jake Gyllenhaal Asks, “Who Am I?”

Nightcrawler scored at the box office this past weekend and it’s easy to see why.

It’s a stunning film that has given Jake Gyllenhaal the best role of his career. We would not be surprised if he wins an Oscar -- he will at least be nominated, that much is guaranteed.

His performance is a hurricane of power, and he utters fantastic movie quotes like bullets coming out of a machine gun.

Gyllenhaal’s Lou is well studied, and self taught, and believes everything he says to his core. And that comes through with a power that is rarely seen in our lead characters of late.

It’s hard to narrow down the best Nightcrawler quotes because every word in this flick is priceless.

But click through and discover our 11 Best Nightcrawler quotes as we managed to find a little more than a handful that we can truly call the “best!”

What if my problem wasn't that I don't understand people but that I don't like them? What if I was the kind of person who was obliged to hurt you for this? I mean physically. Because that's what I'm telling you, as clearly as I can.

The film is coming from Red Granite Pictures, and will be co-produced by Ferrell and Adam McKay’s production company, Gary Sanchez Productions.

Horrible Bosses 2 and That’s My Boy director Sean Anders will direct from a screenplay by Brian Burns (Entourage), that had a comedy aspect added to it in revisions by Anders and John Morris (Horrible Bosses 2 and Dumb and Dumber To), McKay and Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder).

“Will and Mark are the absolute perfect on-screen duo to take on this hilarious project,” said Adam Goodman, President of Paramount Film Group. “With Anders at the helm, and our partners Red Granite on-board, we are thrilled this movie is getting underway.”

Daddy’s Home centers on Ferrell’s radio executive who is doing his best to be a solid stepdad to his wife’s two kids. When their real father shows up (Wahlberg), things get a little complicated… and clearly comedic!

All About That Bass Star Wars Parody: All About That Base (No Rebels)!

It was bound to happen. Megan Trainor’s hit song All About That Bass is so popular that a parody was just waiting in the wings.

Imagine our joy that that parody arrived today in the form of a Star Wars-based take on her number one song called All About That Base (No Rebels)!

The clip arrives courtesy of Nerdist and features Clare Grant, Rileah Vanderbilt, Alison Haislip and Milynn Sarley as the Sith Ladies and Team Unicorn has clearly got The Force because this thing is an instant classic.

The lines in the song are instant classics!

As a fan of Star Wars, you know all too well how everything went down in George Lucas’ universe... particularly at the end of Return of the Jedi!

So, the line in All About That Base (No Rebels) where they sing, “The Emperor told me don’t worry about the size. He says, ‘It’s not like it’d be blown up twice,’” is just simple comedic and sonic brilliance.

Of course we know that is exactly what happened.

So sit back and put a smile on your face, courtesy of Trainor’s insanely catchy riff and the people at Nerdist!

Mean Girls Cast Reunites: Check Out the Fetch Photo!

Back in October when Mean Girls celebrated its tenth anniversary, we were struck at how well the Tina Fey-penned Mean Girls quotes had stood the test of time. The film has become a legend since its release in 2004 and now Entertainment Weekly has gotten the cast back together for a photo and gotten each cast member and Fey’s thoughts on the film and the phenomenon that has occurred since its debut.

Mean Girls Reunion Photo

This is all part of Entertainment Weekly’s reunion issues (check out the Ghostbusters cast reunion!). It’s one of our favorite issues of the year and so far, it has hardly disappointed.

So, back to Mean Girls -- did they know they were onto something?

Writer and star Tina Fey thought so, but then questioned herself. “At the time we did want to start the conversation about the sequel, and for whatever reason I was like, ‘No!!! We shouldn’t do that!’ Now I look back and I’m like, ‘Why?’ But now, no -- it’s too late now,” Fey admitted.

For Rachel McAdams, Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert, the years have shown them what an impact this flick has had on people.

“I was staying at a bed-and-breakfast recently in the-middle-of-nowhere Ireland. And one of the owners’ granddaughters came up to me, and she gave me a piece of pink paper and she goes, ‘Can you write down just a few of your favorite Mean Girls quotes?’ It was so sweet,” McAdams recalled.

“I couldn’t think of any of them! It’s been 10 years! So I said, ‘Well, what are your favorites?’ So she literally fed me all these lines, like ‘Is butter a carb?’”

Lohan was even struck by how the film’s release date, October 3, is now known as Mean Girls day.

“I was leaving the playhouse the other day [Lohan is starring in a revival of Speed-the-Plow in London's West End]. These kids were outside, and someone said, ‘Do you know what day it is?’ Someone said, ‘It’s October 3rd!’ I was like, ‘What? I don’t understand!’ I didn’t know what they meant. Then I realized it!” Lohan said and laughed.

Where do the ladies think their characters would be now?

We think McAdams takes the cake with her answer. “Regina is a Real Housewife. She’d have too much time on her hands, for sure,” she said. “She’s probably found all her other Reginas.”

Seyfried, perhaps injecting her own love of canines, says that “Karen would manage or own a store that sells really cool dog attire, like Swarovski dog collars and Halloween costumes for animals. She’s probably really focused.”

Watch Mean Girls online and relive one of our favorite films of recent memory.

That is so fetch! Gretchen, stop trying to make fetch happen!...

Gretchen: That is so fetch!
Regina: Gretchen, stop trying to make fetch happen! It's not going to happen!

Anything sounds better with the word "Fetch" in it! And Mean Girls made that word pratically iconic..

Interstellar: Christopher Nolan on Getting to Do “Outlandish Things”

$
0
0

Despite its scope, director Christopher Nolan admits that Interstellar -- starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain -- is anything but a solely enormous sci-fi epic.

Interstellar Christopher Nolan

“The fun thing about this film for me is that a lot of it was one person in a room, not even two people in a room. A lot of it was extremely intimate,” Nolan said.

However, even watching the Interstellar trailer it's evident this flick is also a mind-blowing visual menagerie of interplanetary adventures and dimension-bending brilliance. “With this sort of film I get to do both. I get to do that (intimate movie moments) and I get to do action-adventure,” Nolan said.

If nothing else, Interstellar was Nolan’s chance to fully flex his creative muscles. With the Dark Knight trilogy, he had a source material to stay congruent with, a fan base to please and a studio that was equally concerned about both. The film he made between the last two Batman movies, Inception… he still had to be conscious of what he was creating due to the fact that he was still so immersed in the Dark Knight world.

“I try not to be particularly self-conscious of my choices, but with this film, I felt that I had the freedom to try to put a lot of different elements together and try a lot of different things that I am interested in,” Nolan said. “That resulted in getting to do huge things, large outlandish things, very intimate and personal things as a director.”

Matthew McConaughey McKenzie Foy Interstellar

Interstellar follows McConaughey’s Cooper, an astronaut who had given up his dreams of space exploration as the demands of the Earth kept the space program grounded. Global warming had produced an almost universal dust bowl that has all of society’s resources devoted to simply staying alive.

That storyline also allowed the film to be about much more than a simplistic science fiction flick.

“When I first looked at Jonah’s (his brother Jonah Nolan) draft on Interstellar, it was very clear that at the heart of the story there was this great family relationship. We found the more we explored the cosmic side of things, the further out the universe you went, the more the focus came down to who we are as people and what are the connections between us,” Nolan said.

That element of not being restricted to a film story type even stretched to Nolan’s working with composer Hans Zimmer. “When it came to Hans Zimmer’s involvement with the music, one of the things I did with Hans is I didn’t want him to know what the genre was when he started working. It’s about a father who has to leave his children and I gave it to Hans and told him to start working. That was the seed to grow the score from. Indeed the finished score came from that particular creative act that is an illustration we all tried to take on this. It’s about using the exploration of the universe as really a lens through which to view ourselves as human beings.”

Interstellar also has, despite the hugest of obstacles to the continuation of the human race, an enormous amount of optimism. The filmmaker feels that has always been a benchmark of celestial study.

Christopher Nolan Interstellar Set

“Really space exploration has always represented the most hopeful and optimistic endeavor that mankind has ever really engaged with,” Nolan reported. “I feel very strongly that we’re at a point now where we need to start looking up again and exploring our place in the universe more.”

Nolan’s latest joins a long list of films that all have that clear Nolan cinematic stamp. Sure the scope of Interstellar is massive and intimate, but for the filmmaker, making movies for him is always about one thing and one thing only.

“I don’t like to talk about messages so much with films, simply because it’s a little more didactic. The reason I’m a filmmaker is to tell stories. And so you hope that it will have resonance for people,” Nolan said.

“What I really loved about Jonah’s original draft and was retained in this was the idea of blight -- the idea of there being an agricultural crisis, which has happened historically with the potato famine and so forth. We combined this with ideas taken very much from Ken Burns’ documentary on the Dust Bowl. We’re saying that in our story, mankind is being gently nudged off the planet by the Earth itself. The reason is non-specific because we didn’t want to be too didactic or political about this film. It’s not really the point for me.”

Hot on the heels of those Into the Woods animated character posters, Disney has released the film’s first full trailer. The best news about this teaser, is unlike the first Into the Woods teaser trailer, there’s some singing!

The first teaser truly set the landscape and the mood of the Rob Marshall (Chicago) directed stage to screen effort. This time out, we get a tease of what it is that made the Stephen Sondheim Broadway musical such a classic.

The film features a collection of our favorite fairy tale characters all drawn Into the Woods as part of a curse that is crafted by an evil witch, played brilliantly by Meryl Streep.

Into the Woods’ cast is brilliant, from Streep to Johnny Depp as the Big Bad Wolf, to Anna Kendrick as Cinderella and Chris Pine as her Prince.

Disney appears to have a true Christmas gift on their hands with the musical that fans have been waiting for to hit the big screen. Look for Into the Woods in theaters December 25.

Big Hero 6 Exclusive: Damon Wayans Jr. & TJ Miller Wonder Why "No Feet in This Movie!"

Big Hero 6 stars TJ Miller and Damon Wayans are used to both being the comic injections in their films and both do that in the Disney flick out this week.

But, they do oh so much more too. They play scientists (well, Miller’s Fred is a science enthusiast) who take in Hiro (Ryan Potter), a young robotics prodigy who will help turn them all in to scientifically-based superheroes that will try to save their city from an evil force.

We caught up with Miller and Wayans as Disney Animation in Burbank for an exclusive video interview and both were more than thrilled to talk about their unique contribution to the Disney movie world and how their superheroes are unlike any ever seen on screen.

“These kids can be seen as nerds, but they’re just smart and they work hard. That’s their superpower. Their origin story has more to do with the fact that they’ve put a lot of time into their schoolwork,” Miller said. “That’s what gets them to be superheroes.”

And if you watch the Big Hero 6 trailer, one thing is striking about Wayans' character -- above his awesome skills -- is his hair. That fact was not lost on the New Girl star (and star of the recent hit Let’s Be Cops). Animation sure has come a long way.

“It is awesome! And the way they lit the movie was so different than any other Disney movie,” Wayans said.

But, there was one thing that Wayans did notice that was missing in the characters. “There were no feet in the movie!” he observed.

Check out the above video for his hilarious take on that fact and why and how his ideas for a sequel should play into that!

Big Hero 6 also stars Genesis Rodriguez and Jamie Chung, who kill it as a couple of fierce females who not only love science, but kicking evil butt!
