Doctor Strange: Benedict Cumberbatch Cast as Marvel’s Newest Superhero!

In our minds, he was always Doctor Strange. Although many were upset when Joaquin Phoenix dropped out as Doctor Strange, we were thrilled because that meant our pick to play the supernaturally gifted Marvel superhero, Benedict Cumberbatch, could still take the role.

The Imitation Game Benedict Cumberbatch

Well, guess what? Marvel announced officially today that Cumberbatch would be Doctor Strange for director Scott Derickson.

The film firmly sits in the Phase Three of films that was announced when Marvel revealed its plans through 2019, but at that moment they didn’t have anything to announce in terms of casting for Doctor Strange.

Doctor Strange is set to hit theaters November 4, 2016 and follows the tale of Dr. Stephen Strange, a neurosurgeon, who survives a terrible car wreck and in the process stumbles on a world of magic and other supernatural elements.

“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity. In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character,” Marvel Studio head Kevin Feige said in a statement.

Stay with Movie Fanatic for more as this story develops. And it is probably no coincidence that this announcement happened moments after it was revealed that Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool!

X-Men Apocalypse: Oscar Isaac Talks “Spiritual Aspects” Villain

We’ve loved his work for years, especially in Inside Llewyn Davis, so when it was announced that Oscar Isaac would be Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse, we couldn’t have been more excited.

Inside Llewyn Davis Star Oscar Isaac

Isaac was talking to IGN about the project and said that from what he’s seen, Bryan Singer and his team are on par with what they did with X-Men: Days of Future Past, crafting a world that simultaneously brings the comic book world to life, but adds so much more.

“Ultimately, it’s about making something compelling and interesting to watch. I think being faithful to certain characters from the comics is very important, but it’s a different medium. I think, ultimately, you want to make a great movie,” Isaac said.

“That’s the most important part, and then finding, if not the exact details, the soul of the characters, of the stories, of what the whole thing was. Those aspects, even if you’re moving certain things around and maybe not being true to this particular storyline and adding this new thing, I think those are much more important. The experience of it will be much more compelling in the end.”

He also reported that he sees something quite normally human in the character of Apocalypse, and it's largely the reason why he said yes to playing him.

“Just as Bryan’s done with the other films, I think he seeks to find something a little more interesting than the archetypal aspects of the characters, which work really well in print, but for a film I think you want to see a bit more of the -- for lack of a better word -- humanity in Apocalypse,” Isaac said.

“Because ultimately this is a story about humans….It’s just different symbols for different things that we feel -- so with this character I am incredibly interested in the challenge of finding someone that’s psychologically interesting and compelling, and actually the spiritual aspects of the character.”

After yesterday’s announcement that Spectre is the title of Bond 24 and the cast was revealed, we got some more good news today. Jesper Christensen will reprise his role as Mr. White from Quantum of Solace in the new Sam Mendes movie.

Quantum of Solace Daniel Craig Jesper Christensen

“I am looking forward to working with Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig,” he said. “It is a truly exciting script and a very capable team. So it’ll be fun…”

Craig returns for his latest go-around as 007, and he will have his hands full as he battles the most iconic evil organization in the Bond canon. And with Christoph Waltz as our leading villain, prepare for a battle of epic proportions.

Oh, and did we mention that David Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) is his muscle, Mr. Hinx?!

And also a treat is the fact that Monica Bellucci (at 50!) has been added as a Bond girl. She is the oldest Bond girl ever cast and that too is a stroke of genius.

Spectre is set to land November 6, 2015 and until then, watch Skyfall online to get caught up.

Furious 7 Photos: Paul Walker Is Ready for Action

We got our hands on a series of seven new photos from Furious 7. Fitting, right?!

After seeing that Furious 7 trailer, we could not have been more excited for the seventh Fast and Furious film to hit theaters April 3, 2015. But, that trailer left us wanting more.

That "more" arrived today in the form of a series of photos that feature Paul Walker looking for action, Dwayne Johnson carrying an enormous gun, Vin Diesel back behind the wheel (!) and even a fight tease between our baddie, Jason Statham, and Johnson.

After the ever-building success of the series, especially with Fast Five and Fast and Furious 6 being certified blockbusters, anticipation could not have been higher for the seventh film.

But, then Paul Walker died and once our heart healed (a bit), focus had to return to how to finish the movie that was in a franchise he truly adored.

That answer came in the form of a little bit of CG, and help from Walker's brothers, and principal photography would be able to finish.

Now, James Wan is putting the finishing touches on the effects, score and editing, and we're locked and loaded for that April release date.

So, prepare to have your engines revved as we present seven new Furious 7 photos! And to see where we left off, watch Fast and Furious 6 online.

11 Worst Casting Decisions in Superhero Movies: The Opposite of Super

Casting is key in any movie. But casting is absolutely paramount to success in a superhero movie.

Watch The Dark Knight online and there’s a case of double-barreled casting brilliance, Heath Ledger as the Joker and Christian Bale as Batman.

When casting is all wrong in the superhero movie genre, oftentimes the entire film can go off the rails. Sometimes though, there is much more about the movie that is decent enough, that we can look past the bad casting. Such is the case when you watch The Amazing Spider-Man 2 online. Someone in that movie was completely miscast… but who?

One actor, actually, is always good at giving great quips, like he did with these Batman and Robin quotes. But, this larger-than-life actor should never have gotten into the cold!

Click through and discover our 11 worst casting decisions in superhero movies.

Dane DeHaan in The Amazing Spider-Man 2
We love Dane DeHaan and think he is one of the most talented actors of his generation. Before this kid is done, we think the title “multiple Oscar winner” will be attached to his name. Unfortunately, in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, his Harry Osborn was too many things -- crazy, jaded, jealous and so much more that just wasn’t right. And once he became the Green Goblin, he just went psycho and completely over the top.

Weekend Movie Preview: December 5, 2014

The first weekend movie preview for December only finds one film hitting theaters this week that is new and that is Reese Witherspoon's Wild.

But that doesn't mean there isn't a whole lot out there to check out. Let's break it down...

Wild: Witherspoon is all but guaranteed another Oscar nomination for her role as the real life Cheryl Strayed. And... she might even win, as we pointed out in our Wild review. Strayed was recovering from addiction and the fall-out of ruining her marriage, so she packed up a backpack and headed out on the Pacific Crest trail. And by the end of the journey, and thousands of miles that she walked, she would find herself anew.

It is a triumph of the spirit and one of the best movies of the year. Wild succeeds on many fronts and it is largely due to the power of Witherspoon's performance.

Already in theaters...

Mockingjay Part 1: Katniss is suffering from Hunger Games PTSD and struggling with the need of the rebellion for her to serve as the face of fighting against the Capitol. Will she rise above her issues and embrace revolution?

Philip Seymour Hoffman Is Plutarch Heavensbee
Plutarch Heavensbee is playing both sides and we like the way this game master has "mastered" the "game."

As reported in our Mockingjay Part 1 review, this film isn't quite as good as the first two, but it is going somewhere and that is Mockingjay Part 2 -- the conclusion of the Suzanne Collins page-to-screen epic.

Penguins of Madagascar: We love those penguins from the Madagascar movies and couldn't be more excited that they got their own adventure. They must stop an evil octopus named Dave (John Malkovich) who is determined to rid the world of penguins and much, much worse!

We gotta blend in. River dance.

Kowalski: We've arrived in the center of Dublin, Ireland.
Skipper: We gotta blend in. River dance.

The Penguins think they're in Ireland, so when in Rome (or in this case Dublin) do as they do... Riverdance!

As our Penguins of Madagascar review pointed out, the animation pops, plus the introduction of Benedict Cumberbatch as the leader of the North Wind and the story itself are all fantastic. We cannot wait to see where these penguins go next!

Horrible Bosses 2: Although not quite as funny as Horrible BossesHorrible Bosses 2 manages to still bring a whole lot of laughs. Jason Sudeikis, Jason Bateman and Charlie Day are fantastic together and, frankly, we'd watch these guys read a phone book. But, the kidnapping plot of this film adds a whole new level of awesomeness to this world as the stakes have never been higher.

The Boys Bring Gifts

The Hundred-Foot Journey DVD Review: Hope You're Hungry!

When we caught up with Helen Mirren for The Hundred-Foot Journey, she admitted that one of the big appears of the movie was the chance to fulfill a lifelong dream of being French. In fact, Mirren does play a French woman who owns one of the best French restaurants in the country and she does not take too kindly when an Indian family moves across the street and starts an Indian restaurant.

The Hundred-Foot Journey DVD

The Hundred-Foot Journey has now landed on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download and before we recommend it (which we do!), we have to say, hope you’re hungry!

The film is based on the novel by Richard C. Morais and tells the story about a man, Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) who is torn between his loyalty to his family and the promise of a career in the culinary arts that could take him to the top. Mirren’s character sees something in him, but they both have to get over a few prejudices and personality issues to make both their dreams come true.

And there’s a little romance in the air as well.

Mirren is astounding and as usual, commands every frame of screen she’s in. But, she’s not alone in the supreme powerful performance department. So too is Dayal, who we can’t wait to see more of. And the Indian actor who plays his father, Om Puri, is nothing short of brilliance encapsulated.

For more on the film itself, check out our theatrical The Hundred-Foot Journey review. And in terms of the film’s DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download bonus features, for a film of such culinary delight, they are frankly quite tasty.

The Hundred-Foot Journey With Steven Spielberg & Oprah Winfrey has to be your first stop on the bonus feature buffet. Spielberg and Winfrey are executive producers on the film and first and foremost, simply to hear these two great minds share ideas is nothing short of a true gift. And then there’s their take on the film itself and why they chose this book as their first cinematic effort together.

The bonus feature The Recipe, The Ingredients, The Journey explores director Lasse Hallström’s (The Cider House Rules) cinematic culinary journey with the project -- that also includes producer Juliet Blake, the cast and crew, composter A.R. Rahman, as well as author Morais. The inclusion of chefs, who added so much reality to the entire film, in this featurette adds a layer of background to this movie that is quite incredible.

For fans of Winfrey, they must check out the short doc On Set With Oprah Winfrey. It follows production designer David Gropman as he takes Ms. O on a tour of the set, including the film’s Indian restaurant, Maison Mumbai, and French one owned by Mirren’s character, the Le Saule Pleureur.

Lastly, we have to recommend watching Coconut Chicken because after watching The Hundred-Foot Journey, you’re going to want to cook! This featurette is a terrific demonstration of how to make the same coconut chicken -- the Indian inspired dish made with Chef Anil Sharma.

Star Trek 3: Roberto Orci No Longer Directing!

Robert Orci had long dreamed of making his directorial debut on a film series that he loved, Star Trek. So when it was announced that the screenwriter of Star Trek 3 would also take the director’s chair, the man had to be thanking his lucky stars. No more, as word has arisen today that Orci has been removed from the role of director, although they will still use his script.

Star Trek Into Darkness Star Chris Pine

One of the most fascinating aspects about this turn of events is the name that has been mentioned above all others as replacing Orci. He’s someone who just left another huge project.

When Edgar Wright left Ant-Man, it left the Marvel movie in a bind, from which it has nicely recovered. But it is Wright’s name he is being mentioned as the replacement of Orci.

It’s an interesting choice as the man behind The World’s End and Shaun of the Dead has a certain feel to all his movies and none of that feel screams Star Trek. Perhaps they will go in a different direction tone wise with this third Star Trek movie? Who knows, time will tell.

But for now, all we know is that Orci is no longer directing, the film is set to start shooting next year and is still planned to be released in 2016, the 50th anniversary of Star Trek.

Josh Brolin Loves Thanos Because It’s Him “Against Everyone!”

The next time we see Josh Brolin as Thanos may be in a few months (if he even appears in Avengers: Age of Ultron) or it could be in a few years -- as it is most likely he will next be seen in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Guardians of the Galaxy Josh Brolin

But, we had a ball watching him command the screen in Inherent Vice. Brolin plays a '70s LAPD officer named Bigfoot Bjornsen, who rules his beat with an iron fist… much like a certain Marvel uber-villain.

While talking with Brolin at the press day for Inherent Vice, the Oscar nominee shed a little light for Movie Fanatic into why he decided to take the role and what it is about Marvel’s greatest villain that gets him so excited.

“I love the idea of Thanos. Ultimately, it’s Thanos against everyone,” Brolin reported.

“Why wouldn’t you do that?”

Those moments we saw him in Guardians of the Galaxy, we knew that Marvel had cast brilliantly. He has a stature -- that even with all that makeup and CGI, screams Brolin and that is impeccable for the part of Thanos.

Turns out, Brolin knows a certain Marvel Studios co-president and it is Louis D’Esposito who we can thank for getting Brolin into the Marvel world.

“Thanos came along because of my good friend Louis D’Esposito. He and I used to train together. We did Hollow Man together,” Brolin recalled.

“He called me up and started talking about this thing. It was nice because I could intimately talk to him about it -- what I liked, what I didn’t like about the whole idea of it. It was really exciting because of the possibilities that it could become.”

Brolin was drawn to it, not just because of the fact that superhero movies are dominating the world right now, especially those from Marvel. "[It’s] just… something different,” Brolin said.

“It’s a character mentality.”

San Andreas Photos: Dwayne Johnson Shakes, Rattles & Rolls!

Dwayne Johnson has played the hero many times, but in San Andreas, he truly saves the day in so many ways.

The film imagines what would happen to California when “the big one” hits and the San Andreas fault shifts and sends seismic meters off the charts as the state tries not to fall into the Pacific Ocean.

Johnson is a Fire & Rescue helicopter pilot who not only has his hands full with rescuing survivors, but he learns that his daughter is missing and he must do what he can to find her. Along the way, he joins forces with his ex-wife (Carla Gugino), as they put aside their differences to find their child (True Detective’s Alexandra Daddario), while trying to survive the worst earthquake the U.S. has ever seen.

Warner Bros. released the first series of stills from San Andreas over at USA Today and Johnson talked to the publication about making this disaster pic. "This has big stakes,” Johnson said. “It's entertaining and also has heart."

Johnson, meanwhile, has seen enough onscreen damage to motivate him to get his L.A. home earthquake-ready.

You can forgive the superstar if after making this movie he’s a little more prepared than he was prior.

"Now we have multiple earthquake kits at home. And when you realize the magnitude of this, you go home grateful for the days you have. It gives you a different perspective,” Johnson said.

“It makes you stop and think that there's no beating Mother Nature. She's the toughest mama around."

Makes you wonder what his thoughts on beach safety will be after he makes Baywatch!

It has gone through much, but Marvel fans can rejoice now as Ant-Man has concluded principal photography.

Ant-Man Logo

The film had been worked on for many years by original screenwriter and director Edgar Wright, who dropped out earlier this year. Director Peyton Reed stepped in to film the Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas starring new superhero movie for Marvel, and Reed took to his social media account to proudly state that they’re done shooting!

"And that's it! Principal photography on ANT-MAN is now complete. The ants have left the building. Stay tuned..."

Ant-Man is set to close out Marvel’s Phase Two that was announced when Marvel revealed release dates for all of its movies through 2019. And now that the filming part is in the bag, Reed must get busy on the countless hours of CG work that are to come for him to hit that July 17, 2015 release date.

Rudd will play Scott Lang and Douglas is set to play Hank Pym. We also know now that Evangeline Lilly will be Hope Van Dyne (and she has a certain future ahead of her in solo Marvel movies if you believe the rumors).

The film will also star Judy Greer, Bobby Cannavale, John Slattery, Corey Stoll and the man who told us much in our exclusive Michael Pena Ant-Man interview!

Stay tuned for more from this highly anticipated movie.

Top 19 Movie Posters of 2014: Artfully Awesome!

Movie posters are often our first road into a film’s tone, its stars, story and sentiment.

We don’t envy the job of the artists and publicity teams that put these together. The pressure to capture an entire complicated world of a film in one piece of art is immense.

We looked through hundreds of posters that were released in 2014 and came up with 19 of our absolute favorites.

These simply knocked it out of the park and worked on so many levels. For example, tell me seeing the full cast of a certain superhero franchise in one poster made you want to watch X-Men: Days of Future Past online!

That poster of Caesar atop his horse, machine gun in the air as the Golden Gate Bridge burned in the background... heck, I want to watch Dawn of the Planet of the Apes online right now!

Sure, once we heard those Guardians of the Galaxy quotes on the big screen, everyone in the theater knew we had seen the biggest movie of the year. But, remember when you first saw the poster that featured all those new Marvel superheroes looking so bad-ass? Yeah, we were in!

So, how do these top 19 movie posters of the year rank?

When they announced last week that Bond 24 would now be known as Spectre, fans around the globe cheered. The cast was revealed, and sure, Daniel Craig was back as James Bond, Ralph Fiennes would have his first go-around as M and Ben Whishaw was returning as Q.

But the best news was the reveal of the Bond villains, Christoph Waltz and David Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy).

The big announcement was meant to tease the start of filming and, by goodness, filming has started today in London. To celebrate that fact, Mendes posted a photo from the set, giving us just a little bit of a thrill.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Trailer: George Lucas Won't Watch It!

$

In a piece of news that we actually don’t find all that surprising, it turns out that George Lucas has not seen the Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer.

George Lucas Picture

Not only have we seen it dozens and dozens of times, but we’ve also enjoyed the parody versions, like the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer George Lucas edition.

See, that’s probably the reason why right there. Lucas has taken such hits from fans since he decided to not only do his three prequels that many thought were terrible, but when he tinkered and tinkered with Episodes IV, V and XI, it angered many of the faithful. They believed that he should have left well enough alone.

In talking with the UK’s Page Six, Lucas admitted that he has no idea which way The Force is going, at least in terms of the film’s first visuals for the teaser.

“I don’t know anything about it. I haven’t seen it yet,” Lucas admitted.

The reason, he says, has more to do with the fact that it’s not in the movie theaters, and that’s how he likes to watch his films. “I like going to the movies and watching the whole thing there. I plan to see it when it’s released.”

So, does he have any interest in seeing J.J. Abrams’ direction for the franchise he started in 1977? “Not really,” he reported when asked if he was curious to see where Abrams would take it. Wait, what?!

Does someone have buyer's remorse?

Star Wars: The Force Awakens lands December 18, 2015 and brings back Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels and introduces John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow and Lupita Nyong’o, among others.

Check out what we took away from the Star Wars: Episode VII teaser below!

John Boyega Questions

The Wedding Ringer Set Visit: Kevin Hart Says, “It’s Hard To Get Sick of What’s Funny”

$

If there’s something congruent to all the blockbuster characters Kevin Hart has played lately, that is hardly a coincidence.

Kevin Hart The Wedding Ringer

“I think the one thing that I’ve learned to do within doing these films is put myself in the position of whoever I’m playing. From Think Like a Man to About Last Night to The Wedding Ringer, Grudge Match, my trick is putting myself in that situation,” Hart told Movie Fanatic.

“It’s not changing my voice. It’s not growing my hair down my back which I couldn’t do anyway, or losing weight or gaining weight. It’s literally taking on a persona of whatever this person does and I can see myself doing this.”

We visited Hart and the cast of The Wedding Ringer on the Los Angeles set and this first part of our set visit interview series starts with the man who is clearly on fire and everywhere lately.

As you can tell from The Wedding Ringer trailer, Hart plays Jimmy, a guy who owns a business called Best Man Inc. He exists (and is quite successful) at providing a best man and groomsmen for men who are too busy making something of themselves to have a cadre of friends. In this case, it’s Josh Gad’s tech multi-millionaire. He’s marrying Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting's character and she has an army of bridesmaids, so Hart has his work cut out for him.

“You have a certain type of person who is a loner. Biggest fear for a loner is getting married and having a wedding and your wife presenting this huge plethora of people, and as a husband, you have two people on your side and not one of those people can tell you anything about your life. To prevent that, I provide a best man service where I learn what I need to know about you and I make you look like one of the best guys who ever walked the face of the earth. And I get paid to do it. I’m very good at it,” Hart said.

“Jimmy is not a bad guy. It’s the chance to make this guy look great in front of so many people that have no idea who I really am.”

Hart reported that Jimmy is a man of many personalities and many faces. But, he himself also has few friends and confidants. “I do so much for other people and provide for so many -- I don’t have anybody doing the same for me on an emotional level,” Hart said.

Hart and Gad’s characters might actually become friends in The Wedding Ringer. “It’s actually a really funny movie with a great emotional backstory. It’s a different character for me,” he admitted.

Immediately Hart said that he and Gad had instant chemistry, something that is so key -- especially in a film like this.

The Wedding Ringer Trailer Photo

“When I told them I wanted to do the movie, me and (producer and frequent collaborator) Will Packer were talking. We thought the script was great. We were thinking about who that other guy could be. It’s such an endearing character to play. There’s a fine line,” Hart said.

“You’re playing a loser that’s successful, that’s not really a loser. [He] has found a woman that he thought was his dream and now that he’s found her, he realizes that he hasn’t lived life and doesn’t know what he thought that life was. As played as a character, it is not funny. As played to where it’s unbelievable, we’ve gone too far and the movie doesn’t make sense. The beautiful thing about Josh Gad is he made it real. I believe that Josh is a guy who got a beautiful woman that he never thought he would get.”

Hart promises that Gad’s character goes even deeper. “The guy he’s paying to make him feel better actually makes him feel better. That’s what I mean about the levels in this movie. Josh is good, man. Josh is not about just being a comedic actor. I think with Josh’s Broadway background and coming from an educated acting background helps him a lot. I don’t have any training. I’m just a funny guy and they said action one day and I got lucky.”

The comedy superstar thinks that Gad (who you can see as Olaf when you watch Frozen online) is just getting started. “Josh is an amazing guy and I think this movie is going to propel him into more fame,” Hart said. “We bonded. And on this set, it’s nothing but good times."

One of the producers on the set told us that he felt that Gad and Hart are the next Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder. Hart would not go that far. “That’s actually too good of a comparison. The reasons why they are those guys is because they’ve done so much. Richard Pryor is a legend. He’s on a pedestal. Gene Wilder is a legend. You’re looking at two guys who have done so much for the realm of comedy,” Hart said.

“You can’t compare anything to those guys. What me and Josh are, are a fresh tandem. We’re something that’s different, something new. And you know what? Comedy craves that. We’re no Pryor and Wilder, I don’t want that pressure.”

It’s been hard to miss Hart lately. He stole scenes in Think Like a Man and he hasn’t looked back since. When you watch Ride Along online, he is uttering Ride Along quotes that people will be saying for years to come. And you can't miss him on that Get Hard poster with Will Ferrell for their upcoming comedy.

But, does he ever worry about the audience seeing too much of him?

“No, you only get stretched too thin when you don’t control your career. I’ve very much in control of what I do from stand-up to the movies. It’s all a plan from releasing Let Me Explain to taking a year and a half off from touring before I go back out. You have to understand, these movies are all spread out. I’m filming them now, but they won’t be out for another year. Then the movie comes out and goes away and then I go back on tour. It’s a wave,” Hart said.

“You have to dictate that wave and how often you want it to go up and how often you want it to go down. And as I’m a comedic relief for my fans, it’s hard to get sick of what’s funny.”

Hot on the heels of that supremely awesome Cinderella trailer, Disney has released a series of photos that puts the spotlight squarely on their lead.

Lily James could not have been better cast as Cinderella in director Kenneth Branagh’s live action version of the animated Disney classic.

We all know the story of Cinderella all too well, but there is something in what we’ve seen in the Branagh version that has us counting the days until the film lands March 13, 2015.

Perhaps it’s Cate Blanchett as the Wicked Stepmother or Helena Bonham Carter as the Fairy Godmother?

Maybe, it’s just a timeless tale that we think will get a bit of an update making Cinderella a little more than a woman waiting for her “prince to come.”

And if all of the above isn’t enough to get you excited, we just learned that Frozen Fever, the Frozen short film, will premiere just before Cinderella!

Click through and discover the magic of James as Cinderella, and all our Cinderella photos in the slideshow below!

What If DVD Review: Daniel Radcliffe Does Rom-Com

Daniel Radcliffe has been many things to many people in his career. Of course, he was Harry Potter for so many years – so to hundreds of millions that will be how he is forever known. But, he also has been the devil (or is he?) in Horns, Allen Ginsberg in Kill Your Darlings and soon you will see him in a completely new light as a magician in Now You See Me 2.

What If Blu-Ray

But, what about leading man in a rom-com? Yup, he is that and so much more in the new-to-DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download What If.

The film has arrived on home video and is a charming tale of a man who believes that he has met the girl of his dreams (Zoe Kazan). There’s one problem, she’s in a serious relationship on her way to wedded bliss. So, in light of that fact, Radcliffe decides that it is good enough to be friends -- just to be near her.

The film raises similar questions as we saw in When Harry Met Sally, but does so in a unique take that is firmly a rom-com of the 21st century.

Radcliffe shows he is a supremely talented actor who could work in any genre he wants. He possesses such a charm that even though he’s longing for a woman who already has a man, we pull for the guy to find love where it seems it can’t be found.

For more on the film itself, check out our theatrical What If review and see how we enjoyed the film and its fresh take on an old format.

Now that the What If DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download are out, it’s a fantastic date night movie and even just a fun film for anyone seeking an enjoyable couple of hours of entertainment.

The fantastic bonus features are led by two vignettes, Blurred Lines and Opposites Attract.

Blurred Lines is more of a behind-the-scenes look at What If, as seen from the actors and filmmakers of the rom-com as they delve into what sets their rom-com apart from the legions of others that flood the marketplace. There is no better “sale” of the film than those speaking on this featurette. After viewing the charming movie, one will actually find even more affinity for the film and the characters who inhabit it after witnessing Blurred Lines.

The second vignette, Opposites Attract, is a terrific take on the relationship of Kazan and Radcliffe’s characters. This featurette has the cast and crew dissecting the relationship of these two leads and why it works and, in the process, delves deeper into the age-old question of can men and women be friends.

The deleted scenes are interesting, if for no other reason than to see the choices made by filmmakers trying to craft a unique rom-com that bucks so many of the trends that these films embody.

Last, but not least, A Modern Love Story may be the best of the bonus features as Radcliffe and Kazan give their firsthand account to these two characters and their romantic journey, as well as what was so special that each found about working with the other, and also their impressions on the entire cast and What If experience.

What's more romantic than this? For Daniel Radcliffe, unfortunately, that's his "friend" and not a romantic interest.
