Hot on the news that Lionsgate will be releasing Mockingjay Part 2 in IMAX and IMAX 3D comes word that the studio is pursuing options to keep the franchise going. That form could be prequels or sequels, and they’re looking at both.
Lionsgate heads were on a conference call this morning with investors and the question that came up more often than not is what will they do now, franchise-wise, that The Hunger Games will end this November.
Despite Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer feeling that the upcoming series of films from the studio is strong, including their Summit Entertainment franchise Divergent, they are looking at how to continue the unstoppable force that is the cultural powerhouse The Hunger Games.
With Catching Fire and Mockingjay Part 1 edging out Marvel movies in the final days of their respective release years to become the highest grossing film of each calendar period, one can see that investors in Lionsgate would not mind if the Suzanne Collins-born dystopian stories continued in some fashion.
Feltheimer said that the studio is “actively looking at some development and thinking about prequel and sequel possibilities” for more from The Hunger Games world.
They also referred to the news this week that the John Wick sequel was in the works and that they see that Keanu Reeves-starring actioner as a potential franchise as well.
We’ll keep you posted -- color us intrigued.
Until then, stay tuned for that Mockingjay Part 1 DVD coming soon.
One of our favorite Disney movies is coming out of the iconic studio’s vault and heading to the Diamond Edition Blu-Ray. Prepare for some magic as Robin Williams’ Genie makes a comeback in the most stunning picture and sound as Aladdin arrives on hi-def on October 6.
Williams' turn as Genie is considered among the best ever delivered in a Disney movie and believe it or not, as told to us in our Josh Gad exclusive interview for Frozen, Williams was his inspiration for Olaf. You can see it now, can’t you?
Up next for the vault release is 101 Dalmatians and that comes on Tuesday. Look for our full review then... we can’t wait to share with you the supreme awesomeness of the classic as you’ve never seen and heard before.
Stay tuned for more details on the Aladdin release, including what fantastical bonus features we can expect. And given the recent death of Williams, we would bet that there is a fantastic piece (or two) about the brilliant performance he gave that will go down in the annals of time.
Aladdin is one of Disney’s highest grossing films. Which classics join it on that esteemed list?

Even though The LEGO Movie not being nominated for Best Animated Picture was one of our biggest Oscar snubs, there still is joy in LEGO-land at the Academy Awards. The Academy has announced that they’ve asked The Lonely Island and Tegan and Sara to perform their can’t-get-it-out-of-your-head hit from the Warner Bros. smash film.
Look for Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, Akiva Schaffer and Tegan and Sara to perform Everything Is Awesome on the Dolby Theatre stage on February 22.
We cannot wait to see what they do with this track and the potential vibrancy of the performance that involves a song that is one of the only played in the LEGO world. And the fact that Samberg will be doing his thing on the Oscar stage too has us beyond thrilled.
There are many The LEGO Movie quotes we adore, but Everything Is Awesome is not just a song and our favorite line from the movie -- it seems to be a way of life in the Phil Lord and Chris Miller crafted world.
Watch The LEGO Movie online and prepare for some serious awesomeness at this year’s Academy Awards, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris.
In news that should surprise absolutely no one, Universal has announced that it has green lit the two sequels for Fifty Shades of Grey. The first film, starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, arrives on screens February 13 and fans of the EL James book that is leaping to the big screen can go in confident they’ll see cinematic versions of Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed.
Universal celebrated the announcement by releasing two new TV trailers -- the first features Beyonce’s single Haunted.
Experts have Fifty Shades of Grey tracking at almost $80 million, which should take it close to the decade-plus record set by Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ. That flick’s $83 million haul has stood the test of time for a February movie.
Anyone else find it incredibly ironic that a movie about the last days of Jesus Christ would be unseated by a “romance” movie about a couple exploring S&M?!
Speaking of romance, Valentine’s Day is the title of the second TV trailer that debuted!
It was also recently announced that Fifty Shades of Grey got a rating of “R,” for “strong sexual content including dialogue, some unusual behavior and graphic nudity, and for language.” So, there’s that.
"Unusual behavior?" Wonder if any of that arises out of this Fifty Shades of Grey clip?!
No word on release dates for the two sequels, but if we were to guess, they’ll be coming at screens sooner than later.
The first true TV spot for Insurgent has landed and in it Tris (Shailene Woodley) announces that she “is not afraid.”
That’s a good thing, people, as she holds the key to the revolution against Kate Winslet’s dystopian government’s iron-fisted rule over the 12 factions.
Insurgent lands March 20 and gives us the cinematic next chapter to those Divergent quotes. The film, based on the book by Veronica Roth, features Tris, Four (Theo James) and their fellow Divergents challenging the system.
Winslet, Woodley and James are joined by returning faves Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Mekhi Phifer, Zoe Kravitz and Jai Courtney. New to the series are a couple of serious acting heavyweights, Oscar nominee Naomi Watts and Oscar winner Octavia Spencer.
Watch Divergent online and get ready for the highly anticipated sequel.
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water is a box office hit!
The Nickelodeon animated hit TV show leapt to the silver screen and far exceeded expectations and one can see why. It has humor and heart that spoke to both young and old.
That The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water trailer made it seem like there was something wild about the film. And it completely nailed it!
SpongeBob and the gang head above water onto dry land and try their best to stop Antonio Banderas’ Burger Beard from getting away with their secret formula and leaving Bikini Bottom forever awash in a populous who is rioting.
Because they do not know where their next meal will come from!
There are countless The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water quotes that had us in stitches, but we found 13 of the absolute best and most hilarious.

Plankton: Will you stop playing that tiny piano?
SpongeBob SquarePants: Sorry.
Zoolander 2 has been long discussed, and now we know it could not be more official if it tried. Ben Stiller and the mayor of Rome made the announcement that Zoolander 2 will be shooting in Rome this spring and one of the most famous fashion capitals of the world is clearly excited to get the spotlight.
“Rome returns to the center of the international destinations of great cinema,” Mayor Ignazio Marino stated.
What we’re excited for is the fact that Justin Theroux is co-writing the flick (with Stiller) and will direct. Stiller helmed the first one and Theroux could not be a better choice to take the reins for the next one.
Look for Zoolander 2 to shoot for three months in and around the Italian capital.
We know that Will Ferrell’s Mugatu will be back, and now we know that Owen Wilson’s Hansel will likely be back, as will Christine Taylor (Stiller’s real life wife). We hear that Penelope Cruz, Jonah Hill and Cara Delevingne are all joining the cast as well.
Hot on the heels of that Unfinished Business Super Bowl trailer, Fox has released the red band trailer for the Vince Vaughn comedy.
Vaughn is no stranger to red band trailers spurring massive hits. From Wedding Crashers to Old School, the format has worked wonders and he’s set to do it again.
This time out, Vaughn runs a business and with his two cohorts, Tom Wilkinson and Dave Franco, and they head to Europe for a make-it-or-break-it deal. Impress the client, and they live to see another day. Fail, and it’s all over.
The most hysterical part of the above trailer has to be Franco’s clueless character. We have always thought Franco was a rare comic talent -- just watch 21 Jump Street online for proof of that!
Unfinished Business features the second film in a row where Vaughn has worked with director Ken Scott, who helmed him in Delivery Man.
The flick also stars James Marsden, Nick Frost and Sienna Miller (coming off her huge success in American Sniper).
Fox also released a series of character posters from the March 20 comedy, and surprise, our favorite is Franco’s!
Not only is director Bryan Singer set to return and film X-Men: Apocalypse, but he’s also ready to return to the site of where he filmed the blockbuster X-Men: Days of Future Past, Montreal. All of that isn’t set to get going until April, but Singer has a treat for fans as he posted a shot from the set today with a quite cryptic tweet!
He said, “I know. Old door. But there’ll be something new behind it. #XmenApocalypse.”
Hmmm, that’s a tease if there ever was one.
Of course those of us who are passionate about the world of X-Men know that that is the location of the device that Professor X (only James McAvoy in the upcoming film) uses to find any mutant on the earth.
How different could it be? Or even more specifically, how has the room and/or the device changed? Or, is it the Danger Room?!
Those questions, unfortunately, won’t be answered for some time as X-Men: Apocalypse is not set to hit theaters until May 27, 2016 with Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse.
Time will tell and we’ll keep you posted.
Until then, watch X-Men: Days of Future Past online to see where we left off.
If it seems like there has been a Nicholas Sparks page to screen effort almost every year since we got those The Notebook quotes, you’d be right. But when The Notebook rocks the world and becomes part of the pop culture fabric of our society, you can’t blame movie studios for trying to capture lightning once again.
As we stated in our theatrical The Best of Me review, the James Marsden and Michelle Monaghan starring romance comes as close as any other. Now that The Best of Me is out on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download, you can enjoy it at home… just in time for Valentine’s Day!
The Sparks book was a number one New York Times bestseller and it’s easy to see why. The Best of Me’s story of young love getting a second chance after two decades could not be more resonant if it tried. And as crafted by the romance author king, he has also given his fans the most wildly heartbreaking tale of two star-crossed lovers since, well… The Notebook!
Luke Bracey and Liana Liberato are Dawson and Amanda. They are high school sweethearts who seem to be on the path to be the rarest of lifelong loves who begin their love life so young. But when tragedy hits, coupled with their familial differences, it drives a wedge between them that they believe makes love irretrievable.
Our story intertwines the past with the present with Marsden and Monaghan portraying the modern day versions of the young lovers. We see how their beginnings shaped their present with Bracey and Liberato matching Marsden and Monaghan note for note. It is an impressive set of casting and not an easy task to achieve.
The lush scenery is exquisite and also adds to the element of romance that makes this the second best Sparks page-to-screen effort. What else works with this The Best of Me Blu-Ray and DVD release? The bonus features allow the viewer to alter the cinematic experience.
We particularly enjoyed how Fox employed the Tears of Joy edition of the film that features an all-new storyline to the film that will produce just that, tears of joy from the most romantic of viewers. Then, further sending the romantic factor through the roof is an Alternative Ending that further explores Amanda and Dawson’s second chance at love.
What is truly fascinating as well are two sets of interviews that feature the author dishing the questions to his leads. First, Nicholas Sparks Interviews: Michelle and James gives us an incredible insight into why Sparks and his production team (he now produces his movies too!) felt that these two acting veterans were perfect to embody Amanda and Dawson as more mature individuals. Their part of the story is in many ways much more complicated in terms of the thorns of the past and how they can cause scars that could derail any second chance at love. And seeing Sparks, Monaghan and Marsden interact is simply priceless.
Then, watch Nicholas Sparks Interviews: Liana and Luke and discover why it was so important to find the right young actors to play the younger versions of Amanda and Dawson. They provide the groundwork for what Marsden and Monaghan would work from, yet they were allowed to be completely independent, as we learn in this interesting interview.
Lastly, the music video for I Did by Lady Antebellum is about as sweepingly romantic as a, well, Nicholas Sparks book! It’s the perfect cherry on top of an already heart-quickening movie experience.
When it comes to predicting who will win the Oscar for Best Picture, it has been the most fascinating of weekends. It is now truly a two-film race between Richard Linklater’s Boyhood and Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Birdman.
Movie Fanatic’s Oscar Watch has already given you our predictions for Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Actor. Tomorrow we bring you our choice for Best Actress. Best Director arrives on February 12 and our choice for Best Picture will be revealed February 17.
Then on February 19 we roll out our massive picks for all 24 categories. You’ll want to pay close attention to that one if you’re competing in your office pools and other like-minded activities. The last couple of years we’ve had an almost 85-percent accurate prediction rate and see no reason why that should decrease this year.
But, this Best Picture race is truly rattling us.
It has only happened once in recent memory when a film swept all the guild awards and did not win Best Picture, and that was Ron Howard’s Apollo 13. This year, Birdman has swept all the guild awards, most surprisingly the Directors Guild of America. Who would have thought that the group we believed most likely to hand the top honor to Linklater for his work on the almost impossible -- filming a movie over a 12 year period -- would actually give it to Iñárritu for Birdman?
As is said in the Princess Bride… "inconceivable!"
But, then Boyhood won Best Picture at the BAFTAs on Sunday night. In fact, Birdman only won one award at the BAFTA awards, and that was for cinematography. Boyhood not only won Best Picture, but Best Supporting Actress and Best Director.
Now, there isn’t too much of a crossover between BAFTA and the guilds, but there is enough that what seemed like a runaway train for Birdman has now at least hit a speed bump.
Early in award season it seemed that Boyhood was the unstoppable movie. It won all the critic awards and seemed to be well on its way to hoisting a Best Picture Oscar. But, then the guilds voted, as we stated. Not every member of the guilds is a voting member of the Academy, but every member of the Academy is a voting member of a guild.
So, as you can see, this thing has gotten thorny to predict, to say the least.
We at Movie Fanatic’s Oscar Watch are still glad we have a few days to sort all this out because as of right now, it’s hard to say who will win on February 22.
Here’s where we are: Our mind is saying Birdman, but our heart is screaming Boyhood.
Stay tuned, and until then, watch Boyhood online and let us know what you think! And to complicate things (again!), Birdman will arrive online for viewing February 17... just days before the Oscars!
When Sony decided to release The Interview online, they chose to promote it on Twitter and various online retailers. And the one outlet they chose to quote is Movie Fanatic.
We said: "James Franco and Seth Rogen at their best."
Check it out below in a screenshot from the Sony Twitter feed for The Interview.
The quote also went out to the online retailers and was retweeted thousands of times by people who rented the film!
In news that should thrill every comic book fan across the world, Spider-Man is at last coming home to Marvel.
A deal was just agreed upon between Marvel (and parent company Disney) and Sony Pictures that allows the web-slinger to stay at the studio that has been putting out Spider-Man movies for 13 years (Sony), but he will also be appearing in Marvel Cinematic Universe films over at the Mouse House.
As such, Marvel is shifting its movie calendar to accommodate the newest (old) member of the family who could first make an appearance, we think, in Captain America: Civil War (as he is in the comics).
The new deal specifies that Spider-Man will next be seen in a Marvel movie (which one they did not say, but we guessed above). Then, Sony will release a Spider-Man solo movie on July 28, 2017, a movie that will be produced by both Marvel head Kevin Feige and recently stepped down Sony head Amy Pascal.
They will collectively work towards a completely new direction for the Peter Parker alter ego that has us thinking that Andrew Garfield is out of a superhero job as of right now.
Sony will still “own” the property, finance the Spider-Man films and have “control” over the direction of the character. But clearly the folks at Disney and Marvel are thrilled that the hero has returned to the cinematic universe where he is supposed to be a part of.
“Spider-Man is one of Marvel’s great characters, beloved around the world,” said Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO, The Walt Disney Company.
“We’re thrilled to work with Sony Pictures to bring the iconic web-slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which opens up fantastic new opportunities for storytelling and franchise building.”
Feige, who now has some serious work to do. This news comes after he recently addressed the press (including Movie Fanatic) and revealed Marvel’s plans through 2019.
“I am thrilled to team with my friends at Sony Pictures along with Amy Pascal to produce the next Spider-Man movie,” said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.
“Amy has been deeply involved in the realization on film of one of the world’s most beloved characters. Marvel’s involvement will hopefully deliver the creative continuity and authenticity that fans demand from the MCU. I am equally excited for the opportunity to have Spider-Man appear in the MCU, something which both we at Marvel, and fans alike, have been looking forward to for years.”
So, how has this altered the Marvel schedule?
Thor: Ragnarok is set to be released four months after its initial planned date. It has moved from July 28, 2017 (where the next solo Spidey movie now sits) and now will be released on November 3, 2017. Black Panther, which was supposed to arrive on Thor 3’s new release date, will be held until July 6, 2018.
That now sends Captain Marvel to November 2, 2018 and now sees Inhumans arriving on July 12, 2019. Avengers: Infinity War will keep its previously announced release dates for Part 1 and Part 2.
Sony is also quite pleased with how things worked out and as we’ve repeatedly said over the years, there is enough money to go around for all the studios to work together (are you listening Fox with your X-Men and Fantastic Four?) and make the fans happy.
Seriously folks, this is a win-win for everyone.
“We always want to collaborate with the best and most successful filmmakers to grow our franchises and develop our characters. Marvel, Kevin Feige and Amy, who helped orchestrate this deal, are the perfect team to help produce the next chapter of Spider-Man. This is the right decision for the franchise, for our business, for Marvel, and for the fans,” said Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
When we saw that Pitch Perfect 2 trailer, the excitement over the Bellas competing in the world championship of a cappella was enough to have us beyond thrilled for the sequel to those Pitch Perfect quotes.
Now, with the release of the latest Pitch Perfect 2 trailer, we see why they have to win… because the Bellas were suspended.
Why, you ask? Just watch the trailer and see.
Yup, Rebel Wilson’s character flashes the president in a command performance and could not have been more command-o!
The girls come up with the idea that if they win the world championship, they could be reinstated. Knowing that it is a long shot, they are given the chance and we think our ladies might just charm the world with their talents and find their way back to reinstatement.
Pitch Perfect 2 brings back Anna Kendrick, Wilson, Brittany Snow, Skylar Astin, Adam DeVine, Ana Camp, Hana Mae Lee and introduces Hailee Steinfeld as the newest member of the Bellas!
Watch Pitch Perfect online to see how this all got aca-started!
Marvel Studios and Sony reached a deal to have Spider-Man join the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the pop culture world almost exploded. Now, the next question is when -- specifically -- will we see the webbed wonder in a Marvel movie?
The Wall Street Journal is reporting something that we called last night when we reported on the big deal between Sony and Marvel. Spider-Man will make his first Marvel movie appearance in Captain America: Civil War.
It makes perfect sense given how Spider-Man is in the comics in Civil War and plays a huge role in the battle between Iron Man and Captain America. So circle May 6, 2016 on your calendars for that third Captain America movie, as if you didn’t already have it marked down!
We also hear that Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther will make his first appearance in Captain America: Civil War and that is why we expect Spider-Man to also leap into the Black Panther solo movie.
Now that Spidey’s future is more firm than ever, the WSJ is also saying that that Sinister Six film is more likely than ever to happen. It has been given a release date of November 2016 with Cabin in the Woods writer-director Drew Goddard already signed to write and helm the feature.
Then, the next solo Spider-Man movie is set to land July 28, 2017.
Check out our choices for who the next Spider-Man should be in the slideshow below!
Now, we can understand when you hear “go deeper” and Fifty Shades of Grey in the same sentence, many of you go to a highly sexualized place!
But today with the release of a behind-the-scenes Fifty Shades of Grey featurette, go deep into the EL James page-to-screen effort simply means learn more about how they made the movie! We know you have a dirty mind, come on!
Universal has released the featurette that has director Sam Taylor-Johnson joined by her stars, Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, as they talk about the phenomenon, making the movie and what it took to take a beloved novel and bring it to the big screen.
Release day for Fifty Shades of Grey is merely days away as it is set to land in theaters February 13.
The steamy flick also stars Eloise Mumford, Max Martini, Marcia Gay Harden, Jennifer Ehle and Luke Grimes.
Fifty Shades of Grey has sold over 70 million copies, been translated into 50 languages and produced two follow-up novels, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed.
Even though the first film has not even come out, the Fifty Shades of Grey sequels have already been green lit!
Disney has unlocked the vault and, this time out, it could not be more worthy of that Diamond Edition title. Yup, 101 Dalmatians has arrived on a special, limited edition Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack that has to be owned. It just has to.
And not only is the 101 Dalmatians Diamond Edition available on a format you can hold, but also it’s now available on Disney Movies Anywhere and On-Demand. There is no excuse not to have this classic and the improvements in sight, sound and never-before-seen elements are utterly priceless.
Believe it or not, this is the first time that 101 Dalmatians is available on digital HD and Blu-Ray Combo pack and Disney has made it count with upgrades to the picture and sound that with today’s hi-def TVs is a match made in cinematic heaven. For Disney fans, this might as well be Christmas. It is as good, if not better than the recent releases of The Jungle Book or The Little Mermaid!
Pongo and Perdita gave birth to a litter to triumph all litters, yup, 101 dalmatians, with each one as cute as the last. It’s hard, albeit impossible to pick a favorite -- it changes every time we see this Disney icon of a film. What hasn’t altered over the years is our utter terror and bone-shaking fear of one of the great Disney villains, Cruella de Vil (voiced by Betty Lou Gerson).
De Vil has kidnapped all of the puppies in London and we all know why, besides the fact that she is beyond evil! Animal heroes of all shapes and sizes will emerge and do their best to retrieve the puppies and get them back to the family who misses them dearly.
When it comes to the all-new bonus features, the highlight has to be the all-new short, The Further Adventures of Thunderbolt. The favorite of the Dalmatians puppies gets to show off his own heroic nature in the short film that feels like we have gone back in time to see a Disney classic that has never seen the light of day. It is cut from that cloth and longtime Disney fans and newbies alike will treasure this animated short.
Also a treat is the 1961 version of The Best Doggoned Dog in the World. After all, you can never have too much classic Disney animation!
For animation fans, young and old, you do not want to miss Lucky Dogs. The featurette visits with the Disney team as they discuss the making of 101 Dalmatians, as well as the resonance that the classic film has had on not only movie fans, but future animators who now give us the films we marvel at today.
And give it to Disney for including the Disney View feature, which further expands and enhances the viewing experience. Although geared towards children, viewers of all ages will treasure this inclusion in the 101 Dalmatians Diamond Edition Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack.
Then there’s Dalmatians 101: Hosted by Cameron Boyce of Disney Channel’s The Descendants. It tackles the history and legacy of 101 Dalmatians and presents the film in an educational and enlightening manner that makes you appreciate the classic even more… if that’s even possible.
Of course, all the classic bonus features from previous home video releases of 101 Dalmatians are included as well.
Watch 101 Dalmatians online now and prepare to be amazed.
De Vil is one of our favorite Disney villains, who else makes the iconic evil list?
After that Jurassic World park cam viral video site went live, we could tell that the marketing team at Universal was doing something truly special with the latest in the Jurassic Park series.
Now with their latest viral video release, they are even using it as a means of introducing a character we have yet to see in any stills or teasers.
Vincent D’Onofrio’s security expert Vic Hoskins is head of InGen’s Private Security division and, through the clip below, we see how he views his role at the park.
Hoskins’ mission is clearly laid out in a statement he makes in the viral video. “Jurassic World is a global destination, and that comes with a certain set of risks. Our job here on Nublar is to work with Asset Containment and park staff to ensure a safe environment for the millions of people who visit every year.”
Good luck with that, Hoskins, as we all know from that Jurassic World Super Bowl trailer that new dinosaur that Bryce Dallas Howard’s character and her lab created has unleashed all sorts of “security” risks to all those visiting the island!
Jurassic World opens in 3D, 2D and IMAX formats on June 12 and also stars Chris Pratt, Jake Johnson, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, BD Wong, Omar Sy and Judy Greer.
Check out how it got started and watch Jurassic Park online.
Christian Slater stars as the host of a bizarre futuristic game show in the latest red band clip from Hot Tub Time Machine 2.
The scene lands merely days after we premiered that raunchy (and hilarious) Hot Tub Time Machine 2 red band trailer. The boys are back (minus John Cusack, who is “replaced” by Adam Scott, who plays his son) in the sequel to Hot Tub Time Machine.
Craig Robinson’s Nick Webber (in this Hot Tub Time Machine altered future) is a huge pop star and he’s appearing on the celebrity version of the game show Choozy Doozy. And from the looks of the first few seconds of this clip, he is none too happy about it.
Rob Corddry’s Lou has made a suggestion for what Robinson’s Webber has to do on this show, and let’s just say it comes back to bite him in the derriere.
Clark Duke is back and he is joined by new to the series Gillian Jacobs (Community). Hot Tub Time Machine 2 lands in theaters February 20, so watch Hot Tub Time Machine online to see how it all got started.
Now that we’ve had some time to digest the explosive news that Spider-Man has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s time to delve deeper.
We learned late last night that Amy Pascal at Sony and Kevin Feige at Marvel have agreed to be co-producers on any future Spider-Man movies that will still live over at Sony. We also know that Spider-Man will be in a few Marvel movies -- we predict (and it was all but confirmed) that it will be Captain America: Civil War.
But, what will Spidey look like? Who will play him? We have suggestions in the slideshow below that run the gamut.
One thing is for sure and that is Andrew Garfield is out. The man only got to wear the Spidey suit twice, as you can see when you watch The Amazing Spider-Man online and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Also out is director Marc Webb, and that truly saddens us because the man has a passion for the webbed wonder like few in this town. But, he and Garfield were given a daunting task with weak scripts and now they’re both out.
Also on the outs are two producers who held a stranglehold on the franchise while over at Sony, Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach. And given that those two were the ones who delivered said scripts to Garfield and Webb, well then, so be it.
It’s a brand new day for Spider-Man in the movie world and for fans like us here at Movie Fanatic, it is a fabulous day.
We have always wondered how they would do a Captain America: Civil War without Spider-Man. And frankly it makes sense that he would be in a Black Panther movie too. You can just about consider it a must that he is in Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2.
The other thing to arrive news-wise late in this day of explosive news is that chances are they’re looking to go young for the next time we see Spider-Man in the movies. Not so young that we have a reboot, but still young(er). So a few of these people who we think would make good Spider-Man replacements for Garfield might not work.
However, there is a theory out there that the Spider-Man that we see in Civil War might be a different one than we meet in the solo Spidey movie that Sony will release in 2017.
This story just keeps getting meatier and meatier, no?!
