We are quite surprised, given how impressive that Popeye test footage was, that the CG animated Popeye movie from Genndy Tartakovksy appears to be no more.

    Popeye Photo

Although his work is impressive, watch Hotel Transylvania online and don’t miss the Hotel Transylvania 2 teaser trailer, it seems that Sony has decided to go in another direction with the story about the man who adores his spinach.

Popeye, we put up a great screening, everybody really liked that sizzle, we got a positive reaction. I was in love with what we were doing, but I think the studio is going through changes and I don’t know if they want to make the Popeye that I want to make. So they’ve got to make a decision,” Tartakovksy told MovieFone.

“Right now, I’m off that project and moving on to the other one that we soft-announced, which is Can You Imagine? which is an original idea of my own and a very personal story. It was hard to let Popeye go, but that’s the business.”

Robin Williams famously played Popeye in the 1980s classic, and unfortunately it seems that will still be the last incarnation we’ll see Popeye in for a while.

You can see Tartakovsky’s next work when Hotel Transylvania 2 hits theaters September 25.

Movie Fanatic's Weekend Movie Preview is feeling a magical love this second weekend in March. Disney's Cinderella is coming at screens from director Kenneth Branagh.

Also landing in theaters is Liam Neeson kicking some more butt in Run All Night and we also explore the Frozen short film that debuts before Cinderella in theaters, Frozen Fever

    Let's break it down...

Cinderella: Bringing the classic animated Cinderella to life could have been one filmmaking journey filled with major land mines. But what Branagh and Disney have done is something truly extraordinary. They have kept all the magical elements of the beloved fairy tale, and yet brought this Cinderella into the 21st century. She is a woman who would be just fine on her own and does not need any prince to save her. But, he is handsome and kind, and they might just find the romance of a lifetime.

As our Cinderella review reported, Disney has done it again. After the success of Maleficent and now Cinderella, prepare for more live action Disney magic.

Run All Night: Neeson is an action hero again, but this time out he's not the nicest guy in the world that the audience pulls for. He is a mob killer, and is responsible for dozens of deaths across decades. Sure, they're all bad people... but still. Neeson tries to come to terms with his past while still hanging around his old boss (and lifelong friend), the mob king played by Ed Harris. When Harris' son goes off the rails and threatens Neeson's son, the friendship is over and only one of them will emerge alive.

Our Run All Night review found the best part of this flick is the high art that is the chemistry between Neeson and Harris. Also, Joel Kinnaman turns in another fantastic performance as Neeson's son.

Frozen Fever: The animated short follow-up to the smash Oscar-winning hit Frozen will play before all showings of Cinderella. As if you needed another reason to see that fairy tale come to life on the big screen? Frozen Fever finds Elsa (Idina Menzel) wanting to throw a birthday party of the highest order for her sister Anna (Kristen Bell). Olaf's (Josh Gad) back and the film even introduces some cuties that are sure to be in high demand at the Disney Store.

For more, check out our Frozen Fever review.

Feel like watching something at home? Several terrific titles have arrived on digital download. Watch Mockingjay Part 1 online or watch Breakfast Club online and witness the 30th anniversary edition that is so brilliant.

Josh Gad, currently seen (more heard) in Frozen Fever, is heading back to Disney. The Frozen star has been cast in the live action Beauty and the Beast film starring Emma Watson.

    Josh Gad Photo

Gad will play the sidekick of Gaston (Luke Evans) in the Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, Breaking Dawn) version of the animated classic from 1991, that itself was based on the Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont iconic fairy tale.

Gad is joining Evans, Watson and Dan Stevens as Beast in the production that should start filming soon.

After the success of Maleficent bringing Sleeping Beauty to life and now with Cinderella knocking critics’ socks off, one can see why Disney is busting out the live action versions of some of their most beloved animated films.

Beauty and the Beast will be written by a man who knows highly emotional prose, The Perks of Being a Wallflower author and writer-director Stephen Chbosky.

Watch Frozen online to see how well Gad does in Disney fare. He has gone on to live action success in films as varied as The Internship, Jobs and, most recently, The Wedding Ringer.

And with the news yesterday that Frozen 2 is in the works, Gad will be at Disney for quite a few projects heading forward.

What other Disney films would make great live action versions? Discover our thoughts in the slideshow below.

Mad Max Fury Road is one of our most anticipated movies of 2015, and with the release of the following images, our anticipatory level grows ever higher.

Total Film debuted three new stills, two of which feature star Tom Hardy’s titular character looking quite fierce and determined and one with Charlize Theron appearing as bad ass as we’ve ever seen her!

We knew that casting a new Mad Max after the pop cultural success that creator George Miller had with Mel Gibson would be a challenge. Even giving us a new Mad Max movie seemed like a ship that may have sailed.

But then we saw that first Mad Max: Fury Road trailer and immediately we shook our head that we ever doubted the man who created the post-apocalyptic hero in the first place.

Mad Max: Fury Road also stars Zoe Kravitz (who we see for the first time in the below stills), Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Nathan Jones and Courtney Eaton.

Look for it May 15 in 2D and 3D.

It wasn’t just Prince Charming that fell in love with Cinderella, audiences turned out in droves to see Disney’s live action version of their animated classic. The Kenneth Branagh-directed film starring Lily James as the titular iconic character took in a magical $70 million!

    Cinderella Cate Blanchett Lily James

You would think that would be record setting, and although an absolutely incredible debut, the Cinderella opening weekend is the fifth highest in history. It sits behind The Hunger Games, Alice in Wonderland, Oz the Great and Powerful and 300.

Now there’s one statistic we’d like to see that we will probably never know. How many of those who went to see Cinderella were there to see the next chapter in the Frozen phenomenon, the short film Frozen Fever that played before Cinderella? Makes you wonder, no?

Second place belonged to the Liam Neeson action flick Run All Night. Although $11.2 million is pretty solid for a March debut (last week’s champ, Chappie, only made $13 million and won the box office), it is pretty low for a Neeson film. However, he has had four action flicks in the last 12 months… so maybe his desire to only do action movies for two more years is not a bad move.

Third place belonged to the movie that won’t quit (and one that will easily be on our best of 2015 list when all is said and done), Kingsman: The Secret Service. The Colin Firth-starring film from Matthew Vaughn earned $6.2 million to bring its total to $107.3 million.

Will Smith’s latest continued its run as Focus came in fourth and added another $5.81 million to take its total to $44 million.

Closing out the top five was Chappie and its $5.8 million. In two weeks, Chappie has taken in $23.3 million.

    Box Office Top 10:

    1. Cinderella, $70 million
    2. Run All Night, $11.2 million
    3. Kingsman: The Secret Service, $6.2 million
    4. Focus, $5.81 million
    5. Chappie, $5.8 million
    6. Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, $5.7 million
    7. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, $4.1 million
    8. McFarland, USA, $3.7 million
    9. American Sniper, $2.9 million
    10. The DUFF, $2.9 million

Everyone keeps saying how they want originality out of the big movie studios and, in fact, it was one of our 7 ways to fix Hollywood. We think the idea of Pixels more than fits that mold.

The Sony release premiered a teaser for its first trailer which will debut on Tuesday, and although this first glance doesn’t tell us much, it does show enough to have us more than enticed.

Pixels is the story of how aliens decide to invade earth, taking the form of classic '80s video games. That idea, apparently, came out of signals from earth that took years to reach them, and it made it seem that video game archetypes were our plans to attack them!

So, they struck first -- using those very video game characters against us.

If you think about it, enormous Donkey Kong characters, Pac-Man and Centipede attacking our major cities would be terrifying. We’re sure we’ll see more of those invaders in the trailer, but for now, it looks like we get a tease of Mario’s feet and Pac-Man’s shadow as people run maniacally in the streets of NYC.

    How do we respond?

The president (Kevin James) enlists the help of the best video gamers from back in the day to orchestrate our response – and they’re played by Peter Dinklage, Adam Sandler and Josh Gad.

Pixels, which also stars Michelle Monaghan and Brian Cox, hits theaters July 24.

Remember that unforgettable moment in the most recent Jurassic World trailer that had Chris Pratt almost serving as a “Raptor Whisperer?”

We were thrilled on two levels with that scene.

First, Raptor Whisperer... I mean, come on? Having those killer beasts under control and able to follow orders is supremely awesome.

Given that we know that scientist Bryce Dallas Howard and her team have created a monstrous new dinosaur that is about to wreak some serious havoc on the uber-popular park that sees millions of visitors a year, those Raptors will come in handy going after that killer beast.

Secondly, the Raptors are back! That alone is enough to have us thrilled.

The studio recently released a fantastic set of photos that introduced us to the dinosaurs of Jurassic World, but our favorite vicious creatures were noticeably absent.

Thank goodness Universal has released a new still featuring several of Pratt’s Raptor Squad, as we have decided to call them.

Watch Jurassic Park online to see how this entire wild world got started and get ready for Jurassic World to hit theaters June 12.

Although Vin Diesel may say “one last ride” in the newly released international trailer for Furious 7, we all know that literally will not be the case! Our favorite Fast and Furious characters may hope that this ends their journey of fast cars and hold-your-breath action, but we all know that Universal has plans for at least three more movies

But, in this movie, they are trying to put an end to someone (Jason Statham) who is coming after the Fast family and trying to kill them off for killing off his brother (Luke Evans) in Fast and Furious 6.

As the film pulled the surprise premiere at SXSW last night, this international trailer arrives and our anticipation level, we thought, could not get any higher for the film that lands April 3.

Sadly, it will serve as the last film of Paul Walker, and he is joined in the cast of returning favorites by Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez and Lucas Black. Joining them is Statham, Kurt Russell (so psyched to see him get in on the action) and, in a brief cameo, Iggy Azalea.

Watch Fast and Furious 6 online and get your engines revving for the next chapter due next month.

Avengers: Age of Ultron has finally released the character poster for the big guy himself, Ultron! James Spader voiced the Avengers villain and did the motion capture thing to effectively capture his nastiest villain yet… and that’s saying something.

Ultron started out so peacefully. Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) built the AI robot as part of an effort to construct a massive robot peacekeeping force.

Well, that kind of backfired and now the guy is in charge of a robotic army that is threatening the planet with human extinction.

Downey is not alone in the returning Avengers. Also back is Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye (recently confirmed to also be back for Captain America: Civil War), Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk.

Joining the team (well, eventually) is Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch and Aaron Taylor Johnson as Quicksilver.

Watch The Avengers online and get yourself pumped for the arrival of Avengers: Age of Ultron in theaters May 1.

With all the casting news recently for Disney’s live action Beauty and the Beast, we were thrilled to get the word today from the famed studio that they have settled on a release date.

Beauty and the Beast 3D Star Paige O'Hara

Given the success that Disney had with Cinderella and its mid-March release and how well that live action flick did, no one should be surprised by the announcement that the live action Beauty and the Beast will arrive on March 17, 2017.

The casting team for director Bill Condon has done an incredible job already. They have Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as Beast, Josh Gad as Gaston’s loyal sidekick, Luke Evans as Gaston and now they have added Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts and Kevin Kline as Belle’s father Maurice.

Disney also announced that the man who won Oscars for scoring the animated original in 1991, Alan Menkin, is back to score the live action flick. We just hope that Be Our Guest is still on there!

Here are a few other Disney animated movies we’d like to see in live action. And while we wait for that live action flick, watch Beauty and the Beast online to enjoy the animated legend.

Are you ready to journey into the further with Insidious Chapter 3

Focus Features has released the teaser for what will be the horror flick’s final trailer debut tomorrow. They have also unveiled the film’s poster which has us kind of spooked!

The biggest takeaway from this teaser is that our favorite psychic (Elise Rainier, played awesomely by Lin Shaye) is back and she’s leading a séance. Well, let’s just say she’s heading “into the further.” And from the looks of things that does not go very well

Insidious Chapter 3 finds Leigh Whannell is back directing, with Dermot Mulroney taking a stab at the horror genre, with Whannell also starring, along with Stefanie Scott and Angus Sampson.

Stay tuned for the full trailer premiere tomorrow and watch Insidious online to see how it all got started.

Oh, and don’t miss that spooky poster and a slew of set photos in the slideshow below.

Two of our favorite comic actors are finally appearing together in the same movie, Get Hard.

The flick tells the story of Will Ferrell and his financier character who is looking at 10 years in prison for bilking his investors. For some strange reason, he gets it in his head that his car wash guy (Kevin Hart) has been to the clink and for a fee, can teach him how to Get Hard for the big house.

To promote the film, Hart and Ferrell appeared on the latter’s comedy website, Funny or Die and took readers questions. The first question truly took the cake as the duo revealed some of their failed (and funniest) efforts to score roles that famously went to the other comic.

For instance, they present a video of Hart auditioning to utter those Anchorman quotes.

And did you know that Ferrell auditioned for the role that Hart rocked when you watch Ride Along online?

    Witness the hilarity:

Hart and Ferrell’s combined effort, Get Hard, hits theaters March 27. Stay with Movie Fanatic for more on this comedic flick as the release date gets closer!

Zack Snyder took to his Twitter account this morning and gave us our long awaited first look at his highly anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The teaser trailer is merely 22 seconds long, but it gives us several things.

We've got a tone. We see the suits (which technically we've already seen with Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman in the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice posters) and we also get some score.

And that, for us, is the stand-out here. From the sounds of it, the sequel to Man of Steel is going to be dark and that sounds just perfect to us.

Snyder has promised that the full first trailer will be unveiled on Monday, so color us seriously intrigued for that as it will be nice to see a little more from the director's effort than a couple of wicked cool looking suits and music that gives us the chills!

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters March 26, 2016 and to get ready, watch Man of Steel online.

American Sniper became the highest grossing movie of 2014, after topping Mockingjay Part 1 recently, and now we have news about the Clint Eastwood-directed, Bradley Cooper-starring blockbuster coming home.

    American Sniper DVD

Warner Bros. has announced plans for American Sniper to come home on Blu-Ray combo pack, DVD and digital HD on May 19.

American Sniper stars Cooper as Chris Kyle, the U.S. Navy SEAL sniper who recorded more combat kills than any other sniper in U.S. military history. During his time in Iraq, he became so notorious by insurgents, that there was a bounty on his head.

What sets American Sniper apart though is that the film is as much about what Kyle achieved on the battlefield as he did on the homefront. He was married and had children and every time he came home in between tours, it was a struggle and Cooper impeccably captures it in a performance that was rewarded with an Oscar nomination for Best Actor.

We’re also thrilled to report that Warner Bros. will be donating a portion of the profits from the American Sniper home video release to the Wounded Warrior Project, a total that could reach $1 million.

When it comes to extras, we cannot wait to explore the following:

    • One Soldier’s Story: The Journey of American Sniper -- Join director Clint Eastwood and his creative team, along with Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller, as they overcome enormous creative and logistic obstacles to make a film that brings the truth of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle's story to the screen.
    • Making of American Sniper

The Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer has debuted and if you were teased by the Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer, prepare to be blown away by the latest look at the J.J. Abrams space epic.

The trailer debuted at the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, which featured Abrams, producer Kathleen Kennedy, as well as many of the new stars of the film (Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega) and veterans (Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher).

The latest look is impressive, to say the least. But the payoff here has to be our first look at Harrison Ford back as Han Solo, of course with our favorite sidekick, Chewbacca. We just love how Solo has clearly boarded his Falcon and says, "Chewie, we're home." Cue the tears!

There is also the narration. It is the first time we've heard from Hamill's Luke Skywalker and he talks about how the force is strong with his family. He talks about his father (as an image of Darth Vader's damaged helmet is shown), himself and his sister. Then, he says, "It is also with you." Who could he be talking to?!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters December 18. The time could not pass fast enough!

The second Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer has arrived and it has set the world ablaze in geek-inspired bliss.

Not only do we get some insightful narration from Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), but we also get our first look at Harrison Ford back as Han Solo, along with his favorite furry sidekick.

And what Han says… well, let’s just say we may have shed a tear or two.

What else compelled us from the trailer that debuted at the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim?

We compiled a list of nine moments from the explosive and highly emotionally charged Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer. Which ones make the cut?

Our friends at The Hollywood Gossip have a great find -- our first look at Jared Leto and how he’ll look as The Joker!

    Jared Leto Joker Selfie

Leto took to his social media pages and posted a rather emerald looking hue on his dome that will be the look for his turn as the legendary Batman/DC Comics villain in the upcoming David Ayer film, Suicide Squad.

Leto has some huge shoes to fill with the role, from Jack Nicholson’s iconic turn in Tim Burton’s Batman to Heath Ledger’s Oscar winning take in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. But, if there’s anyone who can take that challenge it’s the recent Oscar winner for Dallas Buyers Club.

Leto will be joined in the superstar cast by Will Smith and Margot Robbie (who recently paired in Focus) and we’ll watch anything from Ayer as his Training Day, End of Watch and Fury are among our recent faves.

Watch The Dark Knight online and see how much work Leto has to do beyond greatly looking the part with his green ‘do after how much Ledger knocked it out of the park!

Will Suicide Squad become one of our favorite superhero movies? Time will tell, but these are!

Jurassic World is just one of the reasons we think summer movies 2015 will be the biggest and best summer movie season in history.

The park is open and as we start our adventure, it has been for years. The action picks up twenty-something years after the events of Jurassic Park and millions have come and enjoyed their time hanging with the dinosaurs without incident.

Well, that appears to be changing -- as you see from the Jurassic World trailer.

Scientist Bryce Dallas Howard has created a new dinosaur and according to her wrangler Chris Pratt, that was probably not a good idea. When this new dino starts killing off the other dinos on the island, well, those vacationers might just be next on the lunch menu.

Universal has released a new poster for the June 12 release, featuring Howard looking her creation in the face. Glad she has that protective glass between her and the hungry beast!

Pratt and Howard are joined in the cast in Colin Trevorrow’s film by Jake Johnson, Nick Robinson, Vincent D’Onofrio, BD Wong (from the original film!), Omar Sy and Judy Greer.

Watch Jurassic Park online to see how it all got started!
