Harry Potter's Emma Watson and Rupert Grint: Box Office's Top Couple

Forbes has looked back at the last five years and compiled a list of the onscreen couples who have added up to the most bank at the box office. Is it a surprise that number one, by a large margin, is Emma Watson and Rupert Grint? They have appeared in four Harry Potter films in the last five years, totaling $4.2 billion.

Ron and Hermoine Get Mad
Way back in second place is that Twilight couple, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. Their onscreen love affair has earned $2.5 billion in box office revenues. Although they may not catch Grint and Watson, with Breaking Dawn Part 2 still to come in theaters they may close the gap.

Although they are no longer an onscreen couple anymore as Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has replaced her, Megan Fox and Shia LaBeouf landed in third place. The Fox-LaBeouf romantic tandem scored $1.5 billion in their two Transformers movies.

Pepper Potts and Tony Stark, played by Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr., landed in fourth place with just over $1.2 billion at the box office for the Iron Man films. The fifth spot, ironically, contains earnings all from one film. That honor goes to LaBeouf and Huntington-Whiteley as their Transformers Dark of the Moon brought in $1.1 billion. If they rejoin for a fourth Transformers (which LaBeouf said he will not do), they should easily climb into fourth place.

As the Lovelace cast has continued to take shape (most recently Demi Moore was added), the film has released its first still. Our first look at Lovelace features the film’s main stars, Amanda Seyfried and Peter Sarsgaard, and arrives courtesy of Entertainment Weekly.

Amanda Seyfried and Peter Sarsgaard in Lovelace
Seyfried is Linda Lovelace, whose real name is Linda Boreman, and Sarsgaard is her husband, Chuck Traynor.

The story of Lovelace follows Linda’s career, particularly her work on the 1972 X-rated film, Deep Throat. Although Seyfried and Sarsgaard look truly blissful in the above photo, history has shown that Lovelace was not thrilled with her porn career, and was in fact pushed into it by her husband.

Lovelace also stars Sharon Stone, Hank Azaria and Bobby Cannavale.

Inside Chronicle: Director Talks and New Clip!

Movie Fanatic was among a small group of publications that spent yesterday on the 20th Century Fox lot getting an inside look at the upcoming film Chronicle. We met with director, Josh Trank, and saw a half dozen scenes from the teens-as-superheroes film that more than surprised us and has us salivating to see the entire flick.

The Cast of Chronicle
We were also given an exclusive clip for our group of journalists that gives our readers a good feel for what they can expect when Chronicle arrives in theaters February 3.

Trank, we can already tell, is a visionary whose career we will be watching closely. His film follows a group of teens as they make an astounding discovery in a deep hole. Emerging from the area, they discover they have super powers. What’s a teen boy to do? The first act of the film finds them trying to control their new powers and find ways to use them. Boys are boys and there are plenty of pranks that we saw in the clips that were hilarious. But, then as the film heads into its second and third acts, things get darker.

Chronicle is an insanely original idea -- taking the superhero genre and turning it on its head in a found-footage, POV-style film. Trank’s excitement for his film was palpable.

“It’s surreal to me that I was able to make it,” Trank said. His journey to making Chronicle had its seeds in his own teenage years. “All my daydreams always seemed to turn to telekinetic fantasies.”

Just from what we could cull from the scenes, the story of Chronicle is small -- just a group of friends -- but its span is huge. “I knew that it had qualities of an indie movie because most of the scenes play out with an understated narrative drive. The quiet moments connect the bigger moments,” Trank said. “But at the same time, it has this big blockbuster scope.”

The idea of teenagers getting superpowers is intriguing. We believe that most would not behave as Peter Parker famously does by donning a suit and going out to fight evil. These are teens, and as such, some of what they do would be for completely selfish reasons. “We have these scenes with our main characters out there doing things and they’re doing it without any shame,” Trank said.

Chronicle is unique in every way. It could easily be a superhero movie. The film could be classified as a found-footage film. There could also be an argument made that Chronicle is a classic John Hughes high school film, where The Breakfast Club characters could move two-ton cars.

One of the most powerful scenes that Movie Fanatic witnessed involved the Seattle Space Needle. It is harrowing to say the least. The fact that it is shown in a point-of-view manner makes it all the more compelling. The reasons for setting Chronicle in Seattle are clear, but Trank at first had to joke. “I grew up in the ‘90s, loved Nirvana,” he said and laughed. Seriously, there was a specific reason that the Pacific Northwest city was chosen.

Chronicle Scene: In Seattle
“We were trying to think about a city that has something science fiction about it. I couldn’t think of any other movie that was set there, so we were all very excited about it and the set piece we showed you a clip of -- the Space Needle -- well, that provided something special.”

Trank’s opinion of found-footage and point-of-view shooting is high, when it is done right. He feels, with Chronicle, the story is “chronicled” through the character of Andrew -- who always has a video camera on him. Once he gets his telekinetic powers, he doesn’t even need to hold the camera, it just follows him shooting every fantastical step.

“It started out as a found-footage idea because I really wanted to shoot a story that is almost a no-no of found footage,” Trank said. “How are you going to go cinematic with this kind of invention? If you had a character that is really visually gifted and can operate his camera telekinetically then, what would that look like if the camera was following me around that way?”

Now, it is with great pleasure that we present to you a clip given to us exclusively at the Chronicle event, thanks to Fox!

The Devil Inside scared up some serious box office love as the Paramount horror flick took the top spot at the box office. The exorcism movie took in $34.5 million to get 2012 off to a great start, bucking 2011’s box office blues. This first weekend of 2012 saw ticket sales up almost 30 percent over the same period last year.

Suzan Crowley in The Devil Inside
What else Devil Inside did is finally knock off Tom Cruise and his Ghost Protocol. The fourth Mission Impossible film had been number one for two straight weeks and in its third week of release, banked $20.5 million. Ghost Protocol has now earned over $170 million.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows finished in third place with $14.1 million followed by The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, that added another $11.3 million bringing its cume to $76.8 million in one month of release.

Closing out the top five is the third Alvin and the Chipmunks film, Chipwrecked. Alvin and the boys took in $9.5 million, taking its total to $111.6 million. And we wonder why they keep making Chipmunk movies?!

Universal has released the first still and a teaser poster from the upcoming Bourne Legacy starring Jeremy Renner. The Ghost Protocol actor is not replacing Matt Damon in the role he created in 2002’s The Bourne Identity. But, this is a widening of the net that is the Bourne world.

The teaser poster was released as well and we adore the tagline, which fits perfectly given the new Bourne journey: Prepare for the unexpected.

Kiefer Sutherland, soon to star in Fox’s Touch, has said that the 24 movie is not only a go, but will start in shooting in April.

Kiefer Sutherland on 24
Sutherland also talked briefly about what to expect from the 24 movie. Looks like Jack Bauer will be called to duty once more in the film that begins six months after the series closed. Another question answered: How will the film handle the show’s real time format? In short, the film won’t even attempt that (who has 24 hours to sit in a theater!). The flick will come in at around two hours and follow one day in Bauer’s life, but not roll in out real time.

24, the movie, has only announced that Sutherland is back as Bauer, and no other casting news. Stay with us as we bring you anything and everything 24 as the film comes further into focus.

Allen was nominated for his work on Midnight in Paris and it's the filmmaker’s fourth nomination in his career. He won the award for his Annie Hall in 1977. Fincher earned his honor for bringing The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo to life for English-speaking audiences. It is Fincher’s third time as a DGA nominee after earning nods for The Social Network and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Payne, previously nominated for Sideways, earned his nomination for his astounding work on the George Clooney-starring The Descendants. Hazanavicius earned his first nomination for The Artist.

Although The Avengers is foremost in Marvel fans’ minds, news has arrived today about when we can expect filming to begin on Thor 2. Tom Hiddleston is the bad guy in The Avengers, but we think that he won’t have any type of demise as the actor has admitted that Thor 2 will begin shooting this summer in London, and that he is reprising his role as Thor's wayward brother.

Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleton in Thor
Hiddleston was talking to the U.K.’s Empire magazine and let the cat out of the bag when it comes to Loki’s Avengers fate by stating that he is involved in Thor 2 and the shoot begins in London while that city is hosting the Olympics.

“All I know about Thor 2 is that we're supposed to film it in London in the summer and that it's being directed by Alan Taylor,” Hiddleston said.

Like we said, not much information, but it’s nice to know that Thor 2 is on schedule to arrive November 15, 2013 after The Avengers makes its premiere May 4 of this year.

Dragon Tattoo Sequel Will Shoot This Year

$

Stieg Larsson’s The Girl Who Played with Fire will move forward, with or without Dragon Tattoo director David Fincher. The second part of Larsson’s Millennium series will see the light of day, so says Sony Pictures. Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig will most certainly return, as they are under contract and both want to continue the series, but the legendary director’s return to Larsson’s world is a big question mark.

Rooney Mara in Dragon Tattoo
Dragon Tattoo screenwriter Steve Zaillian is back at it bringing the second of Larsson’s books to life. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has banked $106 million globally thus far and although it is slightly less than expectations, it is impossible to think that the trilogy would not be able to see itself through to completion.

As we mentioned, Fincher may or may not be back. Although he is a visionary beyond compare, the second two books could work without Fincher with a bulk of his work serving its purpose by creating the cinematic world of Dragon Tattoo and cultivating the performances of Mara and Craig as Lisbeth and Mikael.

The biggest news of all is it looks like the studio does not want to waste any more time -- the second film will begin shooting in Sweden at the end of 2012.

Killer Elite: Robert De Niro, Jason Statham and Clive Owen star in the action flick Killer Elite. When Owen’s rogue agent kidnaps De Niro, his prodigy Statham must swing into action to rescue him. De Niro takes a smaller role in the film that is really an onscreen acting battle between Owen and Statham.

Killer Elite Blu-Ray
Higher Ground: Vera Farmiga makes her directorial debut and also stars in the story of a woman who finds God over the course of her life and the affect that has on those around her. Higher Ground is a powerful film, marked by stellar performances, including the always awesome Farmiga. The film was released in limited capacity in early 2011 and should find a wider audience on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Higher Ground Blu-Ray
What’s Your Number?: Chris Evans sheds his Captain America costume to play the next door neighbor to Anna Fairs. Faris’ character reads in a woman’s magazine that women who have had more than 20 sexual partners are less likely to marry than those with less.
