One for the Money stars Katherine Heigl as the character adored by millions of Janet Evanovich fans, Stephanie Plum. Her exploits have resulted in 18 books by the author and her first to hit the big screen, One for the Money, is out now and has given us an armful of fantastic quotes.

One for the Money Starring Katherine Heigl
Heigl’s Plum must find a job. When she’s just about out of options, she takes a job as a bounty hunter for her cousin’s bail bonds business. Her first assignment is to bring back a cop who is being sought for murder. The fact that the man, Joe Morelli, is also the high school chum who did her wrong back in the day, makes it all the better.

Sherri Shepherd stars as Lula, an Evanovich character beloved almost as much as Plum. She is the classic hooker with a heart of gold and herself provides some of the best One for the Money quotes.

In The Grey, Frank Grillo and James Badge Dale are part of a group of survivors, led by Liam Neeson (check out our Neeson exclusive video interview). After coming out of a plane crash alive, the handful of men have to brave the elements and a pack of wolves that seek to kill them all. Grillo and Dale help us celebrate the film’s landing at first place at the box office and sit down for an exclusive video interview about the film.

Dale and Grillo are such polar opposites in The Grey and add so many layers to a film that could have been formula. Audiences will recognize Grillo from his work on Warrior, Minority Report and will see him soon in Gangster Squad. Dale reports most being remembered for his performances in The Departed, Shame and his run on 24. And look for Dale to start shooting The Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp next month.

If there is a persona that embodies the series Resident Evil, it is Milla Jovovich. The actress has headlined the series since its first film landed in theaters in 2002. She’s back as Alice in the film Resident Evil: Retribution, landing in theaters September 14. The film’s first full poster has premiered, and guess what? We only get her name!

Resident Evil Retribution Poster
Although there is no image of Jovovich on the film’s first poster, it is hard to argue that her presence is not felt. You can’t think of the series without imagining her Alice kicking ass and taking names.

If Resident Evil fans are disappointed by the lack of Jovovich joy on the film’s one sheet, Screen Gems has released a new banner that features the actress front and center doing what she does best: Killing it!

Judge Dredd First Look: Karl Urban in Costume!

We’ve long heard about the Judge Dredd reboot that will take what Sylvester Stallone made campy in 1995 and bring it to the screen more in the manner that comic creators John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra had in mind. Now, with the release of the new film’s first still of Karl Urban as Dredd, we can see they are so on the right track.

Karl Urban in Judge Dredd
Total Film magazine scored the photo from the flick that is set to open September 21 in 3D and 2D. We cannot think of a better actor to portray the man who is policeman, judge, jury and executioner of the streets of Mega City One. We believe he hints at some “Dredd-ness” with his role in Priest. Sure, his character is on the other side of the law in that film, but his fierceness and commitment to his beliefs in Priest is exactly what Stallone was missing in the first Dredd film.

Big Miracle Interview: Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski Love Whales

Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski star in the true life tale of a family of whales trapped beneath the ice in Alaska and how their story galvanized the world in 1989. The pair sat down with Movie Fanatic to chat about their film and what it was that compelled them to make Big Miracle their next movie. Krasinski plays the Alaskan reporter who broke the story and Barrymore is the Greenpeace worker who fought to ensure the whales’ safety.

Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski in Big Miracle
Krasinski was slightly aware of the Big Miracle story from the late 1980s. But, he was too young to have it register. “I remember definitely knowing something about it, but I wasn’t necessarily the most active current events guy at age whatever-I-was,” Krasinski said. It was hard for the actor to believe that all that happened in the film was true to life -- particularly that a President Reagan aide would fall in love with an Alaskan National Guard Colonel.

“But, when you read the script I thought it was really sweet. My concern, and I told Ken (Kwapis, director), ‘Yeah, it’s really good, but we have to cut back a little bit of this stuff. Some of this stuff is a little unbelievable.’ And he’s like, ‘Nah, it’s all true.’ And I was like, ‘Alright, Ken. I don’t know how long you’ve been in Hollywood, but none of this is real.’ And he said, ‘It’s all real. And yes, these people got married.’”

That aspect is actually the most minor of unbelievable aspects of the film. You could not write a screenplay with so many “Hollywood endings.”

The film spoke to the actor’s desire for entertainment that also brings people together. “I think it’s just a great movie, especially at this point in time to believe in the power of unity and getting together for a cause. I think this is the time where not only can you have a voice, but your voice can be the catalyst for something massive.”

Barrymore worked closely with and her real life character and her organization’s leaders, Greenpeace, to do justice to not only the person, but the establishment that lives and breathes for the preservation of animals big and small. “I went and studied whales up in Seattle with Paul Watson, who did Whale Wars. And then I spent a lot of time with Cindy Lowry, who is the woman that I play in the film,” Barrymore said. “She’s just rad and a total badass and super cool and we really actually connected, which is the way you hope it will be, but maybe it will, maybe it won’t. But we were like two peas in a pod, it was great.”

Both Barrymore and Krasinski have had previous experience working with Big Miracle director Kwapis. The Office star was cast by him on the sitcom and worked with him on License to Wed. Barrymore had the pleasure of being directed by him on He’s Just Not That Into You. This movie was clearly a whole new animal for all involved. “He was, in a good way, very stressed, and I say in a good way because I think he understood the difference in the level he was trying to achieve in this movie versus the movie that I did with him and the movie you [looks at Drew] did with him and certainly The Office,” Krasinski said and laughed.

“He wanted to make it really fantastic and I think he knew immediately that the visual spectacle would be an essential part of the movie. He’s very aware that he, at this point, wasn’t known as the visual spectacle guy. He knew he could do it and he wanted to do it right. And I remember his shot selection and his preparation and going over the script he was so dedicated. It was amazing to see him do it because the movie I had done and especially on The Office, he’s so performance-based -- and he still was on this movie -- but to see him be able to be performance-based and do these incredible crane shots, I was just so incredibly proud of him.”

Barrymore and Krasinski share a scene that serves as a turning point for the film on many levels. The actress has to delve deep into her emotional toolbox and she found it one of the flick’s most rewarding. “It’s about making it very personal rather than just soapbox-y,” she said of the scene. The key, as Krasinski’s character says in that part of the film, is to be real to yourself. “I think the more you do speak from the heart, rather than thumping the agenda, I just think that’s what people listen or relate or open themselves up to more. That’s one of the things I really loved about that scene.”

“When you bring it to a small level and sort of make it easy to access, which you did, I think it’s the most powerful part of the movie,” Krasinski added.

Spending months in the remote wilds of Alaska allowed the actors to get close. When asked what each adored most about the other, it was hard to get them to stop! “I really appreciated how professional she was,” Krasinski said. “I don’t think anybody really fully understands what it’s like to be at the level that she’s at and the amount of responsibility that it is. I think that I’m one of the people that feels very, very lucky to be there -- but I’ve only been doing it for a certain amount of time. She’s been doing it for longer and achieving so much more than any of us could even hope to do. She was always so positive and it set the tone for the whole rest of the shoot.”

Barrymore welcomed the opportunity to work with The Office star that she had long admired from afar. “I was so excited because Ken told me that maybe this could happen, but there could be a schedule conflict with The Office,” Barrymore remembered. “Ken called me in the San Francisco airport that it was OK and I started running up and down the halls I was so happy and so excited.”

Drew Barrymore Stars in Big Miracle
“She was like, ‘Steve Carell’s going to be in our movie!’” Krasinski interrupts and laughed.

“I do love him, but I was so excited about you,” Barrymore said and beamed. “I was so excited about doing this with John because I love his acting and I just think that he’s a good person. [Laughs] We both had our dogs up there too, and our dogs love each other -- it’s too cute.”

Who Should Win Best Actress Oscar?

When this year’s Oscar nominations were announced, the consensus was that the Best Actress category was a given. Meryl Streep soared in her role as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady. Yes, she has a record number of nominations, but has only won three… and it’s been awhile since she last held the golden trophy. But, Movie Fanatic would not count out Viola Davis from The Help. We believe our readers feel the same way, so we are asking who do you think should win the Academy Award for Best Actress?

Viola Davis The Help
Streep is beyond astounding in The Iron Lady, and honestly the only reason to see the average movie (check out our review). There is no doubt she gives among her top five performances of her career in the film, and is warranted of the Oscar. But…

Davis was remarkable in The Help and carried an excellent film to greatness. After having just picked up the SAG Award for Best Ensemble, believe that those who vote on the Oscars, i.e. the SAG members, are going to be pulling for Davis. Plus, what a story that would make: Davis beating the mighty Meryl Streep.

Earlier in the year, a favorite to win was Michelle Williams for her role in My Week with Marilyn. Williams scores her own career best in the film, but this is simply not her year, although, her Marilyn Monroe performance is one for the ages. Every other performance going forward of that icon will be held to Williams’ standard.

Rooney Mara announced to the world that she is a force of nature in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. That alone was worth the nomination, but will have to do as enough recognition for this up and coming actress.

Then, there’s Glenn Close who played a man with pristine perfectness in Albert Nobbs. With the strength of this year’s category, she too will have to be satisfied with a nomination.

The Avengers: Super Bowl Trailer Teaser

Marvel Studios has released a short 10-second teaser of The Avengers trailer they’re debuting during the Super Bowl on February 5. Several things pop to mind, the most pressing is: Is it May 4 yet? The film arrives on that early summer day and it just cannot seem to get here fast enough.

The second thing that is striking is how this was thought to be a movie featuring Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man as lead with Captain America's character serving as the audiences' view on the story. What we have gleaned from this 10-second spot is how Marvel is using their paltry amount of time in the teaser to showcase the entire ensemble. After all... we are signing up to see The Avengers -- all of them! To say Movie Fanatic is eager to see this film is truly the understatement of the last century.

DVD Releases: Drive, Transformers 3 and Texas Killing Fields

It’s all about suspense this week on the DVD and Blu-Ray front. New to home video is Ryan Gosling’s riveting Drive, the Sam Worthington starring Texas Killing Fields, Richard Gere and Topher Grace do battle in The Double and a quiet little music flick called Janie Jones will steal your heart.

Drive: Gosling is a mechanic and stunt driver by day and a getaway driver by night in this thriller that is one of the best films of 2011. Albert Brooks steals the show as a gangster who even puts Ron Perlman in his place on more than one occasion. They say there’s a chase on for Hollywood’s next action star and after his turn in Drive, we nominate Gosling! The Blu-Ray and DVD bonus features are highlighted by five behind-the-scenes features: Drive Without A Driver: Talking with Director Nicolas Winding Refn, I Drive, Under The Hood and Driver and Irene and Cut To The Chase.

Transformers Dark of the Moon 3D: Michael Bay went to town for the four-disc Ultimate Edition Blu-Ray 3D, Blu-Ray and DVD combo pack for Transformers Dark of the Moon. Movie Fanatic practically broke our arms picking up the package. Of course we’re kidding, but the sentiment is true. There is so much on here to marvel in, we don’t know where to begin. Bay takes his 3D magic he produced onscreen and packages it brilliantly for 3D viewers at home. The bonus features are dazzling as well. The four discs contain the film, a series of shorts called Above and Beyond: Exploring Dark of the Moon, a killer doc entitled NASA’s Future Then and Now and Bay taking audiences inside how he destroyed Chicago in the film in another stellar featurette.

The Double: Richard Gere and Topher Grace are spies on the hunt of an international assassin. The pair has sparks, but the story does not. A half-hearted spy adventure that gives away all its secrets in the first 20 minutes is not one to endear yourself to.

Janie Jones: An inspiring film about a father and the daughter he never knew. Janie Jones is not only the title of the film, but also the name of Abigail Breslin’s character. The young actress establishes herself as a marvel. And Alessandro Nivola’s singing is divine. The film arrived in limited release in theaters and will hopefully find a following on home video.

Texas Killing Fields: Sam Worthington, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jessica Chastain and Chloe Grace Moretz star in this film based on true events. A serial killer is loose in an area of Texas called the Texas Killing Fields. Long before the murderer left his victims on the Lone Star landscape, it had that moniker. Creepy! The film is the feature movie debut of director Ami Mann (daughter of Michael Mann). Don’t miss our interviews with Mann and screenwriter Don Ferrarone below. Their commentary on the film’s Blu-Ray and DVD also add an entirely new dimension to the thriller.

The Hunger Games Director: Jennifer Lawrence Deserves Oscar Love

Gary Ross has long ago finished principal photography on The Hunger Games and has clearly seen, what he thinks, is star Jennifer Lawrence at her best. The actress is Katniss and as we saw in The Hunger Games trailer, she really nails the character created by author Suzanne Collins.

Jennifer Lawrence: The Hunger Games
“The range in this performance, the emotional terrain that she investigates, the demands of what this role [is] -- it’s such an intensely physical role and an emotional one. She carries the entire movie,” Ross told Entertainment Weekly recently. “To be able to do that at that age is so kind of incredible that I was in a little bit of awe. Do I think she should be nominated? Absolutely.”

The Hunger Games was filmed over a grueling 83-day shoot and the actress reports that the entire crew bonded fiercely. “We were all a family. Everything that I love about the movie, and everything that got me to say yes to this movie, was Gary,” Lawrence reported. She especially found common ground and a friend for life in her director. Yet, he also teased her frequently that he would only direct the first film in the trilogy and leave her with a new helmer for Catching Fire.

“He wanted me to worry about it, because he enjoys my anxiety. That was a huge, huge thing that he used to lure over my head. Like a bastard! I still don’t know for sure,” she said. “Is he definitely doing it?”

According to the director with his description of his vision for the second film, it sure sounds like he’ll be back. “I love the title Catching Fire because from the moment Katniss was willing to eat the berries. The moment she was willing to give her life for something larger than herself, she set off a chain reaction that was at once bigger than her and also because of her,” Ross said. “That’s a very exciting movie to make because you’re seeing the emergence of a leader. It’s the birth of a revolution so it has context that’s larger than just the Games themselves.”

Now, some actresses may give pause when signing on to a series, for fear of type casting the rest of their career. Lawrence apparently did not worry one bit. “Signing onto the movies I was like, ‘Well, I’ll probably love the first one and then I’ll just want to get the rest of them out of the way.' But I can’t wait to start training. As soon as they were like ‘We need to start training in July,’ I was like ‘Woo-hoo!’ I can’t wait to get back,” Lawrence said. “Though I don’t know if that’s because I think we might shoot in Hawaii.”

Be sure to stay with Movie Fanatic this week for your chance to win tickets to The Hunger Games premiere!
