Ryan Gosling is Walt Disney! Or is he?

Fans of both Ryan Gosling and Walt Disney had their hearts racing as a movie poster emerged for a film called Walt. The idea of Gosling portraying the iconic studio head is pure brilliance. The only problem, it’s not real.

Walt Movie Poster
Pascal Witaszek, a French artist, designed the faux movie poster for a non-existent film that appears to be a biopic of Disney. Witaszek even has it being directed by Ron Howard. Could it be any better? We sure wish it was true as the idea of a Howard-helmed biopic on Walt Disney with the legend portrayed by one of our most gifted actors is too good to be true. Unfortunately, it is exactly that.

We even adore the fake film’s tagline: Of a mouse and a man.

20th Century Fox has unveiled the first international trailer for The Three Stooges. No, the latest Farrelly brothers picture is not a biography. It’s more of an imagining of what the three iconic comic figures would be like today. They’ve even given them a fictional backstory. The film arrives April 13 and features Will Sasso as Curly, Sean Hayes as Larry and Chris Diamantopoulos as Moe.

The comedy also features a stellar supporting cast, led by Jane Lynch, Sofia Vergara and Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson.

The arrival of The Hunger Games in theaters is merely days away and after the fun that was last night’s premiere, one question emerged above all others: Are you Team Gale or Team Peeta? Many responses included a third option, which we will let you add in the comment section below. But, in honor of the arrival of the most anticipated movie of the year thus far, we are taking a poll of our illustrious readers as to which side of the love triangle they fall on.

DVD Previews: Descendants, Tintin and Marilyn!

It’s a blockbuster day for new home video releases. We have Oscar winners, Oscar nominees, the comeback of Kirsten Dunst, a Three Musketeers reimagining, Charlize Theron as you’ve never seen her before and the sequel to the film that introduced us to penguins that like to boogie.

The Descendants: George Clooney stars as a father to two girls whose wife has a water skiing accident and winds up in a life-threatening coma. Soon after, he learns she has been cheating. The film earned Clooney an Oscar nod for Best Actor and won the screenwriting team led by director Alexander Payne an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. It is a dazzling film, packed with gorgeous scenery, astounding acting and a story that will leave you yearning for more. The extras are terrific, especially the features Everybody Loves George, The Real Descendants and music videos bringing to life the fantastic Hawaiian music of the soundtrack.

The Adventures of Tintin: A double barreled filmmaker tandem of Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson combine forces to bring the iconic character of Tintin to life. Spielberg directs while Jackson produces in the filmmakers’ first effort at stop motion filmmaking. They triumph in every way. Extras abound including The Journey of Tintin, The World of Tintin and our favorite… a look at Tintin’s dog Snowy in Snowy: From Beginning to End.

My Week with Marilyn: Michelle Williams set the bar for portraying Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn and earned an Oscar nomination in the process. Kenneth Branagh also scored an Academy Award nomination for his role as Laurence Olivier. Bonus features are sparse, but the documentary The Untold Story of an American Icon is quite good.

Melancholia: Kirsten Dunst scored a huge career resurgence with her role in this wildly original story from director Lars von Trier. The film’s cast doesn’t disappoint either with Alexander Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Stellan Skarsgard and Kiefer Sutherland all dazzling in their roles. The story of the end of the world should reach those audiences that missed it on the big screen.

The Three Musketeers: Paul W.S. Anderson and his wife Milla Jovovich decided to bring back The Three Musketeers for a new generation. It mostly misses more than hits, but it is always good fun to watch Christoph Waltz do his bad guy thing. There’s plenty of swashbuckling action, but the plot suffers under way too much weight of exposition.

Young Adult: Charlize Theron deserved an Oscar nod for her portrayal of an extremely shallow Young Adult writer who returns home to her small town with one mission: To steal her high school boyfriend away from his new baby and wife. Yes, she’s not the most redeemable character, but in Theron’s hands, it is a marvel to watch. The film deserved a wider audience than it got with a late 2011 release, and hopefully audiences will flock to it on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Happy Feet Two: The penguins are dancing again! This time out, Elijah Wood and Robin Williams are joined by Sofia Vergara, Pink, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon (the latter pair steals the entire movie). The songs are great. The message is fantastic. Kids will adore it and therefore it’s a family movie must-see.

Dark Tower Films: It Could Still Happen!

We all thought it was over when Universal passed on Ron Howard’s epic plans for bringing Stephen King’s The Dark Tower to the screen, calling it too risky. Now word has emerged out of Warner Bros. that they are in discussions to bring the project to the studio that took on and succeeded in bringing Harry Potter to life.

The Dark Tower Cover
Howard apparently had imagined the seven novels (with an eighth on the way) as three films and a two-season TV show. We can see Universal’s concern at making that kind of commitment to a series, particularly one that is so violent and dark. Now, Warner Bros. tackled the Potter series and made it into eight films and even a theme park. But, Dark Tower is much darker than Potter and, therefore, may be a harder sell. But, if there is a studio in Hollywood that could make Howard’s dreams come true, it is Warner Bros.

The filmmaker even has a lead in mind, as he has stated that Javier Bardem would be perfect for the role of Roland the Gunslinger, a man who wanders the apocalyptic world looking for the titular tower.

Fans of the novel… do you think King’s vision is one that can be brought to the screen?

John Carter stormed into theaters last week and banked over $100 million internationally in its first week of release. The film is based on the character created by author Edgar Rice Burroughs and stars Taylor Kitsch as the title character. Once Carter lands on Mars, he meets a native Martian, Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and a princess named Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). He must decide whether to fight in the burgeoning civil war between Martian species led by the mysterious Matai Shang (Mark Strong).

Nick Offerman, currently enjoying great success on Parks and Recreation, is set to show his fans a new side of his comic brilliance in Will Ferrell’s Casa de mi Padre. Offerman portrays DEA Agent Parker, a man whose command of the Spanish language is less than top notch. That only adds another level of the funny as Ferrell’s latest film is completely in Spanish and to watch the actor butcher his way through his Latin linguistics is hilarious. Offerman sat down for an exclusive video interview with Movie Fanatic to not only take us inside Casa de mi Padre and what it's like to work with Ferrell, but also dishes his role in the upcoming 21 Jump Street.

The spot came during a promo for The Ellen Degeneres Show as she was pushing her upcoming week. The video teaser gives us a good look at what we can expect when the trailer premieres March 15. Witnessing Depp in action as the vampire Barnabas Collins is brilliant and lets us believe that this is one supernatural movie with vampires that everyone can get behind.

Top 10 Will Ferrell Movies: The Funnyman's Finest

$

Will Ferrell is proving he can do anything. Of course, he is most known for his impeccable comic abilities, first shown to a wide audience on Saturday Night Live. His dramatic chops are on full display in Everything Must Go and Stranger Than Fiction. Now, he is busting out of his comfort zone with a comedy completely in Spanish, Casa de mi Padre.

Ferrell portrays the son of a rancher who adores his father, yet the family patriarch believes that Ferrell’s brother is more suited to take over when he can no longer lead. When drug dealers threaten their well being, it is Ferrell who must step up. The film is hilarious (stay with Movie Fanatic for our review March 16).

In honor of his latest film, we proudly present the Top 10 Movies of Will Ferrell.

10. The Other Guys
What started with an Oscar telecast bit evolved into an action comedy called The Other Guys. Ferrell starred with Mark Wahlberg and the pair had karmic comic chemistry. In this pairing, there was no real straight man versus comic relief. Both characters inhabited both roles and in the hands of Ferrell and Wahlberg, it is cinematic gold.

Mr. and Mrs. Gamble
9. Megamind
In Megamind, the comic actor is an animated bad guy whose hero has suddenly been defeated. Ferrell’s voice acting talents shined as Megamind’s despair and wicked wildness is what made the film.

8. Stranger Than Fiction
Starring with Oscar winner Emma Thompson, what has Ferrell done? For one, the film established him as an all-genre actor worthy of consideration for more than just slapstick and silly parts. As a writer who appears to be narrating his own story, the actor blew us away on so many levels. His dramatic scenes reveal a further depth to his cinema capacity that should not be a surprise. Talent is talent.

7. Casa de mi Padre
Again with the questions, i.e.… why is Ferrell starring in a Telenova-feeling, Spanish-language film? Because everything he does, if given the right amount of solid script and casting lucky stars, turns to gold. And Casa de mi Padre is seriously platinum. His Spanish is top notch. The story is chock full of hilarity. And overall, Ferrell has proven that there is nothing he won’t tackle.

6. Elf
One of Ferrell’s top 10 movies is also one of the Top 10 Christmas movies. What’s not to adore about Elf? The actor solidifies his reputation as a comic actor whose performance can be so grounded in reality that audiences pull for his ridiculousness.

5. Zoolander
The Ben Stiller film Zoolander gave Ferrell one of his greatest, if not his greatest, characters in Jacobim Mugatu. We hear the sequel is moving forward. One thing Stiller: More Mugatu!

4. Step Brothers
One of Ferrell’s great go-to partners is John C. Reilly. In Step Brothers, they are the titular description. You know that will be genius. The film does not disappoint as Ferrell continues his career journey into making movies that can be farcical in nature while also being surprisingly heartfelt.

3. Old School
Then there’s Old School. Talk about a film that doesn’t apologize for what it is. “We’re streaking,” Ferrell says running down the street. In that one scene the actor showed there is no limit to the lengths he’ll go to in order to get a laugh.

2. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
Speaking of going far, how about running around a racetrack in your tighty-whiteys screaming you’re on fire? In the talented embodiment that is Ferrell, Ricky Bobby became not only one of his most terrific films, but he originated a character that has become a national icon.

Burgundy and Baxter
1. Anchorman
Speaking of icons... on the local level... after having lived in San Diego for over a dozen years, staying classy was never as joyous as when we witnessed Ferrell as Ron Burgundy asking us to do it. Toss the SNL vet’s title character in with Vince Vaughn, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson, Christina Applegate and Fred Willard, and you have one movie that’s begging for a sequel that can’t afford the stars its cast has become.

The stars of 21 Jump Street, Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, have filmed a PSA extolling the virtues of staying away from fake drugs. 21 Jump Street Exclusive: Rob Riggle Revels Us in Hilarity

You’ve seen Rob Riggle in some of cinema’s most successful comedies and now he’s back on screen to steal scenes in 21 Jump Street. His parts in The Hangover, Step Brothers and The Other Guys are indelible, yet he may have done his best work in the big screen update of the classic TV series that launched Johnny Depp’s career. Riggle is sitting down with Movie Fanatic for an exclusive chat taking us behind the making of 21 Jump Street. He also touts the comic chemistry of stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum while giving us his unparalleled insight into the iconic cameo by Depp in the film that lands in theaters March 16.

Rob Riggle in 21 Jump Street
Movie Fanatic: What were your first thoughts when you heard they were bringing 21 Jump Street to the big screen?

Rob Riggle: I was familiar with the show back in the day. I wasn’t a hardcore follower of it but I had an appreciation for the show. I knew it had a really cool cast and a really cool concept so I was very interested to see the script. And in all honesty, I really don’t do any pre-judging. I always want to read the script and see how I feel after I read the script. I want to be as objective as possible. I was lucky enough to be involved early on. I got to do some table reads so I got to see some early versions of the script and I got to watch it morph a little bit over time. I remember even on that first table read, I thought, “Oh, this is a funny movie. They got some really funny bits in here and really funny characters.” So, I loved it for its comedy ability. You throw in the action on top of it, and realize it’s going to be a good movie.

Movie Fanatic: The entire creative force that brought 21 Jump Street to the screen has done an impeccable job of balancing comedy, action and even romance. Talk a bit about the magic they created...

Rob Riggle: It was a good team, and that’s what you need to pull something like this off, with this many different moving parts and this many different angles to a story. I found working with Chris (Miller) and Phil (Lord) to be awesome. They have great energy. They had a very clear vision. They knew what they wanted to do. A lot of people think when there’s two directors, you’re going to get conflicting notes, that they’re working against each other or they’re not communicating. That’s not the case at all. They couldn’t have been clearer with their communications. They couldn’t have been more open to allowing us to improvise and to play. Every day I was excited to show up on set and that’s a good thing because it doesn’t always happen [laughs].

Movie Fanatic: How was doing the improv on set? Was there room for it?

Rob Riggle: It all depends on the people around you. I prepare pretty much the same way I always prepare. I read the script, got to know the character, I knew what the character’s part was, basic scene analysis type of stuff. At the same time, you also draw from your own experiences. So I went back and I thought about some of the football coaches and teachers I had, maybe a few drill instructors in there and I pulled from some of their alpha-ness and mashed it into what became Mr. Walters. But yeah, they did a great job. Jonah did a great job with setting a tone on the set. Chris and Phil did a great job of setting a tone on the set, which was one of “If you’ve got an idea, let’s go for it. If you want to try something, try it.” And we improvised a lot. A lot of the stuff we improvised made it into the movie which was kind of fun.

Movie Fanatic: Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum’s chemistry is astounding. How did you find those two as comic partners?

Rob Riggle: I knew Jonah from before. Comedy circles are pretty small. I had met him a couple of times and I knew what a talent he was. So I knew he was going to bring what he always brings which is just a very funny sense of humor, a great perspective, a very funny guy. I had never met Channing and I couldn’t have been happier. Channing is the funniest dude. And I’m not just saying that. He knows his way around a bit. He knows comedy. Whether he knew it or not, he knows comedy well, and he knows how to play things. He’s open and he’s a great actor. He just slid right into it. We were improvising and playing and he knew exactly how to do it. So I couldn’t have been any more pleased or happily surprised. I thought it was really cool.

Movie Fanatic: It sounds like you all got along famously…

Rob Riggle: Everybody genuinely enjoyed each other’s company. When we weren’t shooting, we were hanging out together at craft service or lunch. We’d go eat lunch together. We’d go have a beer and watch a game. We enjoyed each other and we were doing bits even when the cameras weren’t rolling. So that’s when I always feel like it’s going to be good because when you have that kind of fun and chemistry, I believe personally, that it translates in front of the camera.

Movie Fanatic: Without giving too much away, you were in a really great scene in the movie with Johnny Depp. What was that like?

Rob Riggle: It was awesome, it was cool. I’m like anybody else, I’m a fan. I get nervous. We had a very short amount of time and we had a lot to do but I didn’t want to be a burden or a distraction but I definitely made sure I introduced myself and shook his hand. It was awesome because he was everything I’d hoped he’d be. He was cool, funny, professional and awesome. I was not disappointed. I was very happy.

Rise of the Guardians: Inside DreamWorks' Ode to Childhood Fantasy

Movie Fanatic headed over to the Directors Guild of America headquarters in Hollywood today for a DreamWorks Animation presentation for their upcoming 2012 slate. More on our look at Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted later, but first we wanted to take you inside their Avengers-like grouping of the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, Tooth Fairy, Sandman, Jack Frost and the Boogeyman for Rise of the Guardians. The film is based on the William Joyce books that bring those childhood fantasies to life. The program began with a short introduction by DreamWorks Animation Chief Bill Damaschke. He spoke of the author’s affinity for holidays. “He’s somebody who really loves and celebrates the holidays full-out, all the time, not just the biggies,” he said. “He’s someone who has an Arbor Day party!”

Rise of the Guardians Poster
DreamWorks previewed footage that begins with the introduction of Jack Frost and how exactly he came to be. It seems that the Man on the Moon is the creator of these fantastical figures who gives them their life purpose upon their worldly debut. After we witnessed Frost learn his powers of frigidness, the film’s director took the stage to add his two cents before we were whisked off to the North Pole to meet his Santa Claus. “You know him as Santa Claus, but of course he goes by many names. We call him North, and he doesn’t exactly have a bowl full of jelly for a belly,” Peter Ramsey said. “He’s got ‘Naughty” tattooed on one arm and ‘Nice” on the other!"

In the film Santa is played by Alec Baldwin, the Tooth Fairy is Isla Fisher, the Easter Bunny is impeccably voiced by Hugh Jackman and Jack Frost is Chris Pine.

Baldwin presents his Santa with a Russian accent, and boy does it work. “He’s a warrior, a wild man, a force of nature. We think of him as kind of a Hell's Angel with a heart of gold,” Ramsey added. Of his Tooth Fairy, Ramsey said, “She’s beautiful, shimmering, sort of a half-human, half-hummingbird creature who does exactly what we’ve always known the tooth fairy does -- leave something nice under your pillow in exchange for one of your teeth.”

Now there’s the Easter Bunny, known in Rise of the Guardians as Bunnymund. With his Australian accent, our spring holiday rabbit says “mate” a lot, quite effectively. Ramsey says he’s “Sundance to Santa’s Butch Cassidy.”

Although we didn’t see much of Pitch (The Boogeyman), he is voiced by Jude Law and his presence was surely felt. “He’s the original bad guy,” Ramsey said. “Pitch hides under your bed at night and brings you scary dreams. He’s the last guy you want to believe in."

That’s the thing that lies at the heart of the film. These fantasy creatures only exist as long as children believe in them. So, when the belief fades, so do they.

The key ingredient to this conglomerate of children fantasy icons, we learn, is Jack Frost. “He’s the wildcard, the rebel without a cause in our movie,” Ramsey said. Once he joins Santa, Easter Bunny, Sandman and the Tooth Fairy, their united front is set for a fight against evil incarnated by the Boogeyman. "Jack Frost controls all the signs of winter. He uses these powers mostly to have fun. But when he meets the other icons, his true mission begins.”

Rise of the Guardians is due November 21 and the trailer, Ramsey promised, will debut in April. Stay tuned for more on the film, as well as our take on the Madagascar 3 presentation.

Hunger Games: Katniss Herself, Jennifer Lawrence, Talks Tough

Jennifer Lawrence is Katniss. After seeing The Hunger Games twice now, there could not have been a better actress chosen to portray Suzanne Collins’ heroine. When the blockbuster book truly took off, fans had their own vision of what Katniss Everdeen would be in flesh and blood. When the film’s star sat down with Movie Fanatic to reflect on the phenomenon that she has entered, Lawrence stressed how she always saw the story as purely traditional.

The Hunger Games Jennifer Lawrence
“I saw this as a drama. I never saw this as a thriller or as an action movie or anything. It's not until now that it feels like, ‘Wow, this is huge!’” Lawrence said.

How on earth did the Oscar nominee for Winter’s Bone score the role of this young century? “I read the books on my own and I loved them,” she said. “I found out they were being made into a movie and then I had a meeting with Gary Ross.”

Even with the Oscar nod, she still had to have help scoring the fateful meeting. "My agents did the brunt of the work,” she said and laughed. "I wasn't like knocking on his door. I just got an e-mail that said, 'You are going to meet Gary Ross here tomorrow.'"

Lawrence didn’t take her moment with director Ross as a given she had the role of a lifetime. “I knew that I had a really great meeting with him and we really hit it off, but that happens a lot and then you never hear from the people again,” the actress added.

“Then I went into the audition and he was a lot nicer and everybody was kind of being more nice. But, I am so insecure that when people complement me, I am like, ‘You are just putting me down or you're just being nice because then you're going to never call.’ So I walked away thinking, ‘That was really nice that they would complement me so much before they greatly disappoint me.’ I just kept thinking they were softening the blow of not hiring me.”

The rest is history. She was off to North Carolina to film the first flick. Handling the fact that the “where does my journey go” part of crafting a character is missing because of the already established books, Lawrence admits it is not what it seems. “That is always the funny thing because we don't know where we are going. We don't know what's going to happen or what we are going to grow into become. So it was important to kind of leave that out of my mind, but at the same time, we are shaping a warrior,” Lawrence said. “So she had to be scared. She's a sixteen-year-old girl fighting for her life. She had to be vulnerable because I never wanted anybody to feel, at any point during The Games, that she couldn't die. I don't feel like she felt like that for one minute, that she wouldn't die. But at the same time, that kind of strength of a budding warrior, Joan of Arc, had to be there.”

Yet, that came at a cost. Lawrence was hospitalized during the shoot.

“This is one of those things that you just can't tell stories like this. I'm learning. No, I had to do with wall runs during free running, which is where you run at a wall as hard as you possibly can so that you can build up traction. That doesn't work! I was doing them and then I got to maybe number six or something pathetic. Then I ran and jumped... and then my feet were just like “eh.” They just stayed down! Then I just went 'Boom!' I hit my stomach as hard as I possibly could to the point that all the stunt guys were like 'Woah! I haven't seen somebody hit the wall like that in years!' So I am rolling on the ground trying to be cool because there are all of the stunt guys around, so I couldn't burst into tears! That is what I wanted to do. Then my trainer, the next day, had me do crunches and I had to admit 'I can't. I ran into a wall really hard yesterday.' And he is a hypochondriac and made me go to the hospital and get an MRI and an IV with the hot stuff -- it was awful! Then it turns out everything was fine. I think it was bruised but not hospital-worthy.”

Of all the talents she needed to require, one proved elusive. “Archery… it's all a mind game and it's all technique. When you get it wrong the bow whips the inside of your arm. Then you throw your bow away in disgust,” Lawrence said. “Then you have to do it again! But once you get it, when you get the technique and you can actually see something and be like, ‘I want to hit that.’ Then you hit it, then it's great.”

Hunger Games Star Jennifer Lawrence
The ability clearly struck with her. “I still have arrows in my car," Lawrence admitted. "It's weird, because I didn't realize that until two of my friends were getting into the backseat of my car and they were like, ‘Why do you have arrows back here?’"

This is the beginning of The Hunger Games journey for Lawrence and she is eager for every second. “I'm looking forward to seeing her become a leader,” she said. “I'm looking forward to her becoming a warrior and then having it turn into a war movie.”

This was part one of our interview with Lawrence, stay with Movie Fanatic as we roll out the final part of our chat March 19.

300: Battle of Artemisia Casting, Plot News

Not only has actor Rodrigo Santoro said that he is ready to return to the role of Xerxes he originated in 300, but the actor divulged a small detail about his role in the sequel 300: Battle of Artemisia. Talks continue to get him to sign to return to the role. The process to signing onto a movie appears to be as complicated as making a film. “We are talking about it. Let’s see what happens,” he said to Omelete. “It’s a long story, my friend. A long story.”

Gerard Butler and Rodrigo Santoro in 300
Although the script is still being tweaked, Santoro did see promise that the film will feature more details about his character. “I read one some time ago. I think there’s a little… some of his backstory,” Santoro said. “Some explanation, but it will be very quick.”

It appears that the final script for the 300 sequel is still in flux. But, according to the actor, the story will stay within the same era as the 2006 film.
