The second trailer from the Miley Cyrus-starring LOL has landed and gives us more of a clue into this coming-of-age story that premieres May 4. Specifically we get a glimpse of Cyrus going toe-to-toe with Ashley Greene over a guy. Lionsgate has also released a full synopsis of the film (below) that explores growing up in the world of YouTube and Facebook. The movie also stars Demi Moore, Thomas Jane, Jay Hernandez, Marlo Thomas, Gina Gershon and Nora Dunn.

Plot summary:
Lola (Cyrus) and her friends navigate the peer pressures of high school romance and friendship while dodging their sometimes overbearing and confused parents. When Lola's mom, Anne (Moore), "accidentally" reads her teenage daughter's racy journal, she realizes just how wide their communication gap has grown. Through hilarious and heartfelt moments between mother and daughter, LOL is an authentic coming-of-age story for the way we live now.

Lola's high school inner-circle includes Kyle (Booth) Lola's BFF, whom she realizes is her love interest; Lola's two best friends Janice (Esco) and Emily (Hinshaw); Max (Sevani) -- a nerd that Emily secretly hooks up with; Lola's ex-boyfriend and Kyle's best friend Chad (Finn); Lloyd (Watson) who is part of their crew; and Ashley (Greene) -- the sexy girl who has set her sights on Kyle, much to Lola's dismay. Thomas Jane plays Alan, Anne's ex-husband and Lola's father. Jay Hernandez plays James, a dangerously cute, good-natured cop dating Anne who is able to offer a little perspective on her teenage daughter. Austin Nichols plays Mr. Ross, the heartthrob math teacher, who all the girls have a crush on. Marlo Thomas plays Gran, Anne's sophisticated mother whose relaxed demeanor allows her to be the easy-going bystander when it comes to watching Anne raising children of her own. Gina Gershon and Fisher Stevens play Anne's closest friends and confidants and Nora Dunn plays Emily's mom.

The Dark Knight Rises Graces EW's Summer Movie Issue

The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway are featured on the cover of the new summer movie preview issue of Entertainment Weekly. The dressed-in-black duo are anchoring the final film in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy and fans of the series get some insight into the film with quotes from the film’s stars and Nolan. The helmer first talks about his feline fighting heroine. “She has a very strong way of protecting herself and those she cares about,” Nolan said of Hathaway’s Catwoman. “Which implies an underlying darkness.”

Hardy chimes in and urges calm when it comes to the backlash against his speaking voice, as evidenced in the film’s trailer. “The audience mustn’t be too concerned about the mumbly voice. As the film progresses, I think you’ll be able to tune to its setting,” Hardy said.

Nolan then adds his impressions of Hardy's portrayal of the evil Bane. “He represents formidable physical strength, combined with absolute evil of intention,” the director said.

The Dark Knight Rises arrives July 20 and also stars Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard.

The Host Debuts Poster: You Will Be One of Us

The first non-Twilight film based on a Stephenie Meyer book, The Host, has debuted its poster. The tagline on the one-sheet says it all: You Will Be One of Us. Although the film, starring Saoirse Ronan and directed by Andrew Nichol, doesn’t arrive until March 29, 2013… we already have a poster and a first teaser trailer.

The Host Poster
The bestselling book is about an alien invasion, but unlike any we’ve seen before. Humans are taken over by an alien being. They serve as “ hosts” -- thus the film’s title -- and one can tell if the person you are looking at is “no longer home” by the color circle surrounding their eyes (as in the poster above!).

The twenty-third James Bond movie, Skyfall, has done a masterful job at keeping fans in the know while they are busy filming at Pinewood Studios in London. Fresh off of our Daniel Craig set chat video, a new one has arrived with Craig delving deeper into what Bond’s up to in the latest film, as well as the man he calls a “super villain,” Javier Bardem, dishing his role. Also in the mix in this latest video blog from the set is new Bond girl, Berenice Marlohe, talking about what it means to her to be a part of the longest running franchise in history.

The Three Stooges Exclusive: Larry, Curly & Moe Interview

The Three Stooges are back on the big screen and Movie Fanatic had the esteemed pleasure of sitting with Larry, Curly and Moe for an exclusive video interview as they ready for their return to the pop culture landscape. Comic trios don’t come any more original than the Stooges and as we sit and visit with the actors who play them (in character!) -- Sean Hayes as Larry, Chris Diamantopoulos as Moe and Will Sasso as Curly -- you can quickly tell that they are as zany in person as they are in their new silver screen effort.

The film arrives in the form of three, thirty-minute vignettes -- much as the classic trio did back in the day. From the madcap minds of directors the Farrelly brothers, our story finds the three as orphans, then grown up, who must find a way to raise the funds necessary to save the orphanage that raised them.

It lands in theaters April 13 and also stars Jane Lynch (don’t miss our exclusive video interview), Larry David, Sofia Vergara and Jennifer Hudson.

The Avengers Premieres and the Wait is Over

Hollywood saw one of its biggest premieres with The Avengers and Movie Fanatic was there and still has the ridiculously enormous grin. An entire Los Angeles city block was closed down, causing a traffic snarl that few circling the El Capitan Theatre and Mann’s Chinese Theater seemed to mind. This was after all… the world premiere of the Walt Disney and Marvel Studios’ superhero juggernaut.

The cast of The Avengers at the Premiere

We have participated in dozens of premieres, including the recent The Hunger Games, but nothing compares to what was witnessed April 11, 2012 when Iron Man, the Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye got together and created movie magic. Legions lined the street, just for a glimpse of their favorite. In order to get our tickets, it took over an hour to find Will Call in the sea of people.

Upon entering the theater, we were given our 3D glasses. These are no ordinary specs. Each one is custom made to celebrate one of the film’s heroes. We were lucky enough to be given Iron Man’s gold and red face accessories. They would take us on the fantastic voyage that is three dimensions of Avengers awesomeness. The theater grew dark and our adventure was on.

Being celebrated is the usual fare at a movie premiere, but on this night, it was different. Like Thor himself, everyone involved with the Joss Whedon film was being exulted for a job well done. That is because they are onto something. We cannot share any details of the film until May 2, but let’s just say this (and we repeat words from our Disney source that we ran over a week ago): It. Is. Awesome. Well put indeed.

Django Unchained: Minimalist Poster

Sure, we’ve heard lots about Quentin Tarantino and his latest picture Django Unchained. If the filmmaker does for Westerns what he did with World War II in Inglourious Basterds, audiences are in for a treat. But beyond that, we have no visuals for the latest from the visionary filmmaker. That changed when the Weinstein Company released the film’s first art -- a very simple, but effective, movie poster.

The film stars Jamie Foxx as the title character, a freed slave, who toils as the mentee of a bounty hunter played by Christoph Waltz. The star wattage beyond Foxx and Waltz is immense: Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, Sacha Baron Cohen, Kurt Russell, Don Johnson, Kerry Washington, Anthony LaPaglia and James Remar. Look for the Western December 25.

The Dark Knight Rises Photos: Catwoman, Batman and Bruce

Thanks to the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, we’ve got six new photos from The Dark Knight Rises. We begin with a new look at Christian Bale in what will be his final go-around in the Batman suit. I know… it’s sad. But… we still have one more, people! Next up is Bale’s foe, the uniquely evil-looking Bane. Tom Hardy appears to be commanding the attention of a stock broking company. Then, Catwoman gets her close-up as Anne Hathaway has found her way into someone’s safe. Could it be Bruce Wayne’s? Bale and Hathaway share a little dance before the mayhem begins followed by Bale and Morgan Freeman having quite a discussion as something truly heavy hits Wayne, as we can tell by his “OMG” face. Finally, not to be left out, Joseph Gordon-Levitt swings into action as a Gotham City policeman. These photos ought to hold us just fine until the next trailer debuts!

Dark Shadows has fans of the cult TV series and neophytes to the Barnabas Collins story equally excited to check out Tim Burton’s vision when his film version of the show hits the big screen May 11. The crux of this excitement is likely the ability to witness Johnny Depp as a vampire. Perfect casting, no? We’ve got a new photo from the production featuring Depp as Collins, looking rather stately. Who’s the man of the manor? Isn’t it always Depp?

Guy Pearce is cutting us up and that is a good thing. His astounding turn in Lockout has reminded us of the birth of another action hero icon, John McClane. Pearce is Snow, an ex-CIA agent in the future who is being sent to an outer space prison compound when the President’s daughter (there on an informational mission) is kidnapped. Snow swoops in and does his best to save the day. Pearce visits with us for an exclusive video chat and we could not be more thrilled. He has charmed us in L.A. Confidential and Memento and now he is back on screen in his best role yet.

Serena: First Photo of Jennifer Lawrence & Bradley Cooper

Jennifer Lawrence is not slowing down. The Hunger Games star, fresh from her record-breaking run, has started shooting Serena with Bradley Cooper in Prague. Immediately following the wrap of that flick, she heads back to Suzanne Collins’ world for Catching Fire, then boards a plane for England to shoot the X-Men: First Class sequel. We’ve got a photo of Lawrence and Cooper hard at work on their first day of shooting Serena.

Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence in Serena
The film is based on the book by Ron Rash about Cooper’s George and Lawrence’s Serena, who are newlyweds. That is where it seems the sunshine fades in this story set in the 1930s. As they head to North Carolina to take over a timber industry giant, all hell breaks loose when infidelity leads Serena to plot the murder of George’s son that arrived courtesy of his affair.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Joining Forces Onscreen Again

They’ve been partners in life since they met on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith where sparks flew. Now, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are set to star on film once again. The pair are negotiating to join The Counsel alongside Michael Fassbender and Javier Bardem. The flick will be directed by Prometheus’ Ridley Scott.

John and Jane Smith

The film will be shot near their European home and look for cameras to begin rolling in the next few months. Fassbender is playing the title character, a lawyer (thus the title!), who is pulled into the world of drug dealing.

Pitt and Jolie have been telling anyone who will listen that they want to reteam on screen. Looks like the duo have gotten their wish.

Looper Trailer: Joseph Gordon-Levitt & Bruce Willis' Wicked Tale

Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are two sides of the same coin, as they say. The pair play the same character at different points of his life in Looper. The film’s first trailer has arrived from director Rian Johnson with its mind-blowing premise. In the future, time travel exists and is only used by those on the wrong side of the law. When they encounter someone who is a problem, they send them back in time to be assassinated by Gordon-Levitt’s Looper -- an individual whose sole job is to kill those from the future.

The Cabin in the Woods Movie Review: Check In!

$

0

The Cabin in the Woods is as inventive of a film as we’ve seen in years. Director Drew Goddard and his co-writer Joss Whedon -- whose The Avengers arrives in exactly three weeks -- have outdone themselves on so many levels with this horror story. And that description of the film as "horror" is simply the first layer of the maze that is this masterpiece.

Chris Hemsworth in Cabin in the Woods
Chris Hemsworth, also soon to be seen in The Avengers reprising his role of Thor, leads a group of college kids for a little R&R in the forest. As seen in The Cabin in the Woods trailer, their first indication to turn around had to be when they encounter a local who is as frightening as they come. As he famously says in the teaser when they ask for directions to the remote abode, “I can get you there. Getting back, that’s your concern.”

When the quintet arrives at their destination, they have found blissful beauty of the most natural of orders. By darkness, that dream of tranquility is dashed.

That is all you’ll get out of Movie Fanatic when it comes to the plot. The film is so original, even describing a bit more than seen in the trailers and The Cabin in the Woods clips is way too much. Just know this: You think you know this film? Think again. It’s a genre-busting bonanza of thrills and scares with a mind-blowing storyline that reminds us exactly why we chose the cinema as our form of entertainment escape.

Whedon, along with his partner in cinematic crime Drew Goddard, continues to amaze. To call their creation a horror film is too narrow a scope of description. It is a thriller, yes, but that too fails to capture the experience of sitting in the dark witnessing this marvel. Their command of the genres and subgenres of film and movie history is seen throughout. How wild does this Cabin get? It is a jaw-dropping moment after moment.

Stealing the show around every turn is the work of Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford. The duo's roles should remain a mystery, but know this: If the DVD and Blu-Ray have any deleted or additional scenes with those two and their repartee, it would be manna from heaven. Their Hadley and Sitterson are like an old married couple, who just happen to have their fingers on the pulse of what is happening in the most fantastical film to hit theaters yet in 2012.

The Three Stooges Movie Review: Fans & Families Will Love It

$

0

When discussing The Three Stooges movie from the Farrelly brothers, one has to begin with the brilliant work of Sean Hayes, Will Sasso and Chris Diamantopoulos as Larry, Curly and Moe. It is almost impossible to capture an icon, much less three, and the trio of actors headlining our 21st century rebirth of the brothers Stooge have not only paid respects to the legends, but continue their legacy.

Larry, Curly and Moe in The Three Stooges
After having the three leads nailing their part of the film, who helms the project has to be perfect, given the subject matter and its place in comedy and Hollywood history. The Farrelly brothers could not have been a better choice. One can almost imagine the sibling pair working with the three Depression-era performers and being on the same page when it comes to the science of delivering the funny, minus of course the modern push-the-envelope method of humor the brothers are known for.

Children have always adored the Stooges, and the 20th Century Fox film is no different. At our screening, there were quite a few laugh-out-loud moments that frankly surprised us, but the younger tones of laughter were emitted machine gun-like throughout.

The story of this film takes a few liberties with the Stooges' story that some purists may have issues with, but like the old serials, it is told in three parts -- each about 30 minutes long.

The first finds our tawdry threesome arriving as mere infants on the doorstep of a Catholic orphanage. They soon hit the terrible twos that seem to last well into adulthood. The story, when it comes to The Three Stooges, is almost irrelevant. It’s all about two things: The bits and the bond that binds these three.

When it comes to the bits, the Stooges 2012 carry on the spirit of the originals. All three actors not only know their way around a laugh, but also possess keen insight into the public persona of the characters they are portraying. Second, the kinship that the original stars channeled that drew a nation into their web of wickedly physical humor is still present. Despite slapping and eye-poking each other all day long, they are able to forgive and forget, and snore away the night together when the day is done.

The supporting cast is mostly up to the challenge. Jane Lynch is her usual awesome self while Larry David shocks us with his self-deprecating humor as a nun. Yes… a nun! Unfortunately the overall story of The Three Stooges lets us down… just a wee bit. But an enormous amount of respect has to go out to all those involved for even tackling the challenge of bringing a unique America-of-a-different era enigma to the world of today.

Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson Back Together in The Internship

We adored their chemistry in Wedding Crashers, and now Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson are proud to be back together. The comic duo will headline the film The Internship for 20th Century Fox. The flick starts shooting in June.

Quail Hunting
In what appears to be a very funny premise, Wilson and Vaughn play old school salesmen who have found themselves in a world that seems to have passed them by. It’s the digital age, but they prefer the door-to-door method of sales.

The titular position occurs when the duo take internships at a tech company in their effort to become modern. We’re guessing quite a lot of hilarity ensues.
