Sacha Baron Cohen's new comedy The Dictator opened Wednesday, and The Dictator quotes are already pouring in. The film stars Cohen as disenfranchised North African dictator General Aladeen as he navigates life in America. We've listed some of our favorite quotes below. What are yours?

The Dictator Still: Aladeen with Portrait

The Avengers Scores Three-Peat: Sinks Battleship

Despite the attack of a Battleship and The Dictator, The Avengers managed to still soar high and take the box office title for a third straight week. Honestly, it wasn’t even close. The Avengers added another $55 million in ticket sales over the weekend, bringing its cume to an astounding $457 million.

Robert Downey is Tony Stark in The Avengers
Battleship tried as best it could to topple the Marvel superheroes, but had to settle for second place, taking in $23.3 million in its first weekend of release. Despite having two extra days of release time, Sacha Baron Cohen’s The Dictator couldn’t tackle Battleship, coming in third with $17.4 million.

Johnny Depp and Tim Burton’s latest collaboration Dark Shadows is still finding it a challenge to cull an audience. The film based on the cult TV show landed in fourth by adding another $12.8 million to its haul. Its total earnings in two weeks is $50.9 million.

Fifth place belonged to another new entry at the box office this week, What to Expect When You’re Expecting. The film, based on the pregnancy self-help book, had to settle for fifth place and $10.5 million.

A surprise landed in sixth place -- The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel -- and when we think about it, in a stroke of counter programming genius, it is hardly a surprise. The film banked $3.25 million in its third week of release as it is the only "adult" oriented film out there currently.

Box Office Top 10:

1. The Avengers, $55 million
2. Battleship, $23.3 million
3. The Dictator, $17.4 million
4. Dark Shadows, $12.8 million
5. What to Expect When You’re Expecting, $10.5 million
6. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, $3.25 million
7. The Hunger Games, $3 million
8. Think Like a Man, $2.7 million
9. The Lucky One, $1.76 million
10. The Pirates! Band of Misfits, $1.45 million

The Amazing Spider-Man Behind-The-Scenes Photos: Garfield and his Stunt Double

Apparently Andrew Garfield is too "fragile" to swing from a mall ceiling and land on a bunch of tables and chairs. Psh. Next he'll hire a stunt double to summer on the Cape for him.

Four behind-the-scenes photos have surfaced showing The Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield and his stunt double, William Spencer, in action (click the thumbnails to enlarge).

The Amazing Spider-Man stars Garfield along with Rhys Ifans, who also starred in this year's The Five-Year Engagement (check out our The Five-Year Engagement quotes page), and Emma Stone. Stone got her start five years ago in the hit high school comedy Superbad (here are some Superbad quotes), and five years later she's still playing a high schooler.

The highly anticipated superhero film opens July 3. In the meantime, if you stare long enough at The Amazing Spider-Man logo, it kind of looks like it's twitching. That's almost as good as seeing the film, right?

The Master Trailer: Paul Thomas Anderson's New Cult Movie

0
0

Joaquin Phoenix's character in the new film The Master feels the same way about his past violence as I do about the short-lived ABC sitcom Work It: "I don't remember an episode."

The trailer for The Master, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, has been released.

The Master marks Anderson's first film since the 2008 Best Picture-nominated film, There Will Be Blood (browse some There Will Be Blood quotes here). It also marks a return of sorts for Phoenix, who, apart from the odd publicity stunt that was the mockumentary I'm Still Here, has not been in any recent movies since 2008's Two Lovers. It looks as though Phoenix's role as a crazy version of himself may have prepared him for this role in The Master.

One wouldn't know it from the trailer, but the film stars Philip Seymour Hoffman (Moneyball) as the leader of a religious organization that springs up after World War II. Though the plot is reminiscent of the birth of Scientology, any connection to L. Ron Hubbard has been denied. Phoenix plays Hoffman's protege in the film, which will be released on October 12.

We told you last week that a short teaser trailer for Anchorman 2 would play before screenings of The Dictator (relive the opening weekend with some Dictator quotes). What we didn't tell you, is that there would be two teaser trailers. Watch them below.

The sequel was only recently announced, and won't begin production until early next year, but Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, and Steve Carell are already getting into character.

While the film awaits shooting, Ferrell's newest movie, The Campaign, will come out August 10. For a glimpse at the new comedy with Zach Galifianakis, watch The Campaign trailer.

For a while there, fans thought they might not get to see a follow-up to one of the most quoted comedies ever, but the internet is now abuzz with Anchorman 2 delight. To brush up on the first film before the second one comes out, browse through our Anchorman quotes page.

Will Smith Men in Black 3 Interview: Don't Call it a Comeback

0
0

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been four years since superstar Will Smith appeared on screen. His last effort, Hancock, is finally not the last Smith film to hit theaters as Men in Black 3 lands May 25. Smith sat down with Movie Fanatic to talk what he’s been up to as well as what it was about the world of Men in Black that brought him back for a third go-around with his pal Tommy Lee Jones and new friend Josh Brolin -- who plays a young Agent K as Smith’s Agent J goes back in time.

Men in Black 3: Will Smith Stars
Movie Fanatic: What do you think it is about the world of Men in Black that is so resonant? And why do Men in Black 3 as your first film in four years?

Will Smith: The idea of a secret government organization that polices and monitors alien activity on and off planet earth, that's so unique. You don't say that this movie is just like Men in Black… there's nothing that's like Men in Black because it's difficult to have a fantasy comedy that works on that level. I was excited by the degree of difficulty and I haven't worked in four years. So, I wanted to put on some shoes that I knew fit.

Movie Fanatic: You’re been producing things for the kids…

Will Smith: My most natural lane is producing, the wide view, seeing everything that's going on and helping and pulling people in. But when you stay away from acting for a while, it's like a muscle. You get out there and you look stupid. So, you have to warm up a little bit. I've been away from it and the time was well spent. I learned a lot of valuable lessons on the Karate Kid. That was very informative. Then just coming back to Men in Black 3 felt like home.

Movie Fanatic: Men in Black 3 is your first 3D film. Did you have any concerns about Will Smith in 3D?

Will Smith: My ears! I could see these things pretty much taking over the whole of the screen [laughs]. When I first saw it and they were cool, I was like, “Alright, we didn't have me looking like satellite dishes.” As soon as 3D exploded it had this weird opposite effect where it got worse. All of a sudden, the movies aren't as good. You're like, “How the hell does that happen?” So, I think that we're about to turn that corner and with the 3-D specifically and Men in Black.

Movie Fanatic: And what was it like the first time you performed with Josh Brolin and his uncanny characterization of Tommy Lee Jones as a younger Agent K.

Will Smith: That's what's crazy [laughs]. As actors, when you're in a scene, it's like a tennis match. Me and Martin [Lawrence] have very different chemistry than me and Tommy Lee Jones. I was expecting to make an adjustment from Tommy Lee Jones to Josh Brolin, but Josh studied Tommy so thoroughly that it was almost identical. It was absolutely stunning.

Movie Fanatic: We get more backstory for Agent J in Men in Black 3 and also a more emotional bond between him and Agent K. Was that nice to tackle?

Will Smith: It was very important. We're all ten years older from the second movie, and different things are important to us in our lives and we're growing. Toy Story 3 did a really great job of advancing it, but then also creating the underlying depth. If you're going into the third part of something we felt like it was really important to deliver more emotionally.

Men in Black 3 Stars Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith
Movie Fanatic: Any news on Uptown Saturday Night remake and which role would you like to play?

Will Smith: We're working on it, trying to get it together... me and Denzel [Washington]. Again, the material has to be right to deserve all that man power.

Movie Fanatic: Would you play the Bill Cosby part?

Will Smith: I don't know. We would figure it out as we got into it and see who's more comfortable because I first asked Denzel and he said, “I'm not funny, man.” I said, “See… that was funny, that you said that.” [Laughs] He was as little concerned about the comedy. I'm like, “Man, come on. It's going to be fantastic.”

Movie Fanatic: Lastly, what mattered most to you from your time away from the camera in the last four years?

Will Smith: It's that I was a child of Dallas. I've dreamed about this life my entire life. On Dallas they had Southfork. Sue Ellen would come to breakfast and the whole family was there and everybody worked the family business. That was my vision of my family. So for me, coming into that space… I'm actually surprised that other people got they own vision. Like, Willow made a huge, hit record, Whip My Hair. Then she cut her hair off. I was like, “Hey! What are you doing?” For me the last three years has been really seeing how much everyone has their own opinion. Everybody has their own ideas and everybody has their own lives that may or may not fit into my Sue Ellen vision.

Brave Video: Bagpipe's Greatest Hits

The new video from Disney Pixar's latest animated feature Brave is a fake commercial for a bagpipe compilation album.

They seem to have forgotten some of the undisputed bagpipe classics: Plaid to the Bone, Isle of Man-Eater, and If Lochs Could Kilt.

Disney has been releasing some fun Brave videos in the last few weeks. The Brave kilt trailer pays homage to the Scottish skirt, and the Brave NFL Draft trailer references American football.

Brave comes out June 22, and stars Kelly MacDonald, Billy Connolly, Craig Ferguson, and Emma Thompson (Men in Black 3).

Snow White and the Huntsman TV Spot: You Shall Rule Forever

An ominous new TV spot for Snow White and the Huntsman dives deep into the psyche of the Evil Queen, played by Charlize Theron.

This trailer was pretty whispery, so remember to turn your speakers back down before pressing play on Spotify. Maybe all of the voice over took place right next to Snow White's bed. "Shhhh, don't wake her up, she looks so peaceful!"

In addition to Theron, the film also stars Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth in the title roles. Look for it in theaters beginning June 1.

Best Movie Villains: Who's Most Evil?

The movie villain is a character archetype that goes back to the Greek theatrical experiences ions ago. Jemaine Clement, most famously known from The Flight of the Conchords (with Bret McKenzie), gets his evil on in Men in Black 3 as Boris and after witnessing his performance, he firmly lands in the upper echelons of movie villainy. He’s not quite in the top 10, but Movie Fanatic has compiled a list of 10 movie villains and wants to let you decide who is the most dastardly.

Prometheus Featurette: Charlize Theron on Meredith Vickers

Ridley Scott is Charlize Theron's dream director. Hear what she has to say about her character in the new film Prometheus, and what it was like to work for the esteemed director.

Prometheus stars Theron, Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, and Guy Pearce as crew members aboard a spaceship seeking answers to the origins of mankind. While the film was conceived as a prequel to Alien, it has since diverged into its own story.

Aliens seem to be all the rage this summer, as Prometheus, Battleship, Men in Black 3, and The Watch all address extraterrestrial life in one way or another.

Killing Them Softly Poster: US of Aviators

Brad Pitt will star in Andrew Dominik's new crime film, Killing Them Softly, which has just gotten its first poster.

Killing Them Softly Poster

Killing Them Softly, an adaptation of the George V. Higgins novel Cogan's Trade, stars Pitt as Jackie Cogan, the point man for a professional hitman who is investigating a heist that was pulled during a Mafia poker game. Andrew Dominik, known for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (also starring Pitt), wrote and directed the film.

James Gandolfini, Ray Liotta, and Richard Jenkins costar alongside Pitt in the film. Jenkins appeared recently in the Joss Whedon film, The Cabin in the Woods (check out some The Cabin in the Woods quotes).

Look for Killing Them Softly in theaters beginning September 21.

Anna Kendrick and Elizabeth Banks Dish What to Expect

0
0

Elizabeth Banks and Anna Kendrick have very different pregnancy experiences in What to Expect When You’re Expecting. The film debuted May 18 and the two actresses share their experiences with Movie Fanatic about giving birth to the comedy based on Heidi Murkoff’s iconic self-help book that also stars Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz.

What to Expect Star Anna Kendrick
One thing Kendrick did not count on was an on-set injury. Sure, on an action film maybe -- but in a female-centric comedy? “I did cut my fingernail off, which is super (expletive) gross. It was full on like George Clooney in Syriana awful,” Kendrick said.

Considering that her character in What to Expect is a chef, perhaps the injury is understandable. As she and her co-star Chace Crawford were always trying to out-cook the other, perhaps ego got in the way of safety. “We took some cooking lesions, Chace and I, and when I did it we were in that kind of competitive place. I was so embarrassed that I cut myself that I immediately was like, ‘Nope. No big deal, just going to throw a Band-Aid on this,’” Kendrick admitted.

“It wasn’t until I got home later that I saw that this fingernail was almost completely gone. It's not like a battle scar thing where you want to show it off to people. It does not look cute. It is super gross. It literally woke me up in the middle of the night, because it hurt so badly. But it's just in your finger, so you feel like a wuss for complaining.”

Banks, all within the realm of making the movie better, offered to injure her co-star Ben Falcone. “I proposed on the day we filmed -- it was not scripted -- that I slap Ben across the face. [Director] Kirk Jones was like, ‘Oh, Ben, what do you think?’ I thought we would fake it, and Ben was like, ‘No, just do it.’ He's real method that way,” Banks said and laughed. “He said, ‘Just slap me.’ Then after the fourth take he was like, ‘I'm good. I think we got it.’ It was really fun to slap him really hard across the face!”

Kendrick and Crawford’s characters’ pregnancy is unexpected and What to Expect When You're Expecting has the most heartwarming element as Crawford’s Marco steps up to the plate and supports Kendrick’s Rosie. “I think that’s definitely touching. They sort of don't have to wonder if they're just together because of the situation they're in,” Kendrick said. The actress cannot share too much of what her character goes through for fear of ruining the film, but does add one thing. “If there's a blessing to be found in that particular version of events, it's certainly that they can pursue this relationship and know that they're really just there for each other.”

The Oscar-nominated actress (for Up in the Air) felt that what her character was going through would be too much to mine her friends and family for similar feelings to enhance her performance. It would be just too personally excruciating. “It was difficult for me to justify asking friends and family, ‘Hey, can I talk to you about a potentially super painful, private memory, of something maybe embarrassing that you don't want to talk about for a big studio movie?’ I didn't really know what I was going to do,” she said. Kendrick thought she would have to delve into those regions of emotional power from her actor’s toolbox. Instead, once she was on the set, those who shared her character’s experiences came out of the woodwork.

Elizabeth Banks and Ben Falcone in What to Expect
“It was surprising to me, as filming went on and particularly when we were filming more difficult scenes, I think arguably every single woman on the crew came up to me and just started telling me about their stories. There is kind of a family environment on set, but something was just in the air on those days where I kind of became an onset therapist, and it was really helpful, hopefully in a symbiotic way for both parties. That was really great, and I'm glad that these women were sharing and felt comfortable enough to share, and it obviously helped me on those days.”

Banks’ character Wendy is having her first child. When finding her inner Wendy, she recalled what she felt as her son Felix was about to arrive. “I had a moment. The Thursday before my son was born, I was just driving to coffee with my husband, regular Thursday morning. I literally burst into tears, and then I started laughing at myself. I was laugh-crying, because I was horrified that this was the last Thursday of my life before I was going to be responsible for another human being for the rest of my life,” Banks said and chuckled. “It just really was horrifying. Then every day was like, ‘And this is the last Friday -- and then this is our last Saturday night.’ Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing!”

Batman! Stop brooding and look up! Gotham is literally on fire! Is he asleep? I think he's asleep!

Yes, the new poster for the insanely highly-anticipated Dark Knight Rises, which comes in at number two on our Top 10 Movies of Summer list, has dropped. Take a look:

The Dark Knight Rises Poster 2

The Dark Knight Rises, Christopher Nolan's third Batman film, once again stars Christian Bale as the Dark Knight himself. Nolan co-wrote the screenplay along with his brother Jonathan. A seasoned veteran of dramatic filmmaking, Nolan is also known for writing and directing the mind-bending thriller Inception (if you've always wondered about the ending of Inception, here's our explanation from 2010).

For those of you patiently waiting for the latest Batman flick, your solace is nigh. You can catch the film in theaters beginning July 20, and until then, you can explore all of our posts on the film, including this pretty awesome The Dark Knight Rises Bane photo.

MacGruber 2: Writer-Director Jorma Taccone Hints at a Sequel

0
0

Despite the tepid box office earnings of the original film, MacGruber may be getting a sequel. The comedy, based on a Saturday Night Live sketch starring Will Forte, was actually quite hilarious, despite the poor track record of post-Wayne's World SNL films. For proof, visit our MacGruber quotes page.

MacGruber Poster!

While no plot or casting details have been revealed for MacGruber 2, writer/director Jorma Taccone has stated that he, Forte, and fellow writer John Solomon have been throwing around ideas for a while. One can only hope that Kristen Wiig (check out some Bridesmaids quotes) will return as Vicki St. Elmo-MacGruber.

Perhaps because the film was based on a recurring sketch with almost no plot or character development, the expectations for MacGruber were initially low, but since its release, the film, which spoofs the 80's action genre, has gained a rather large cult following. It is likely that a sequel will have a more positive initial reaction.

While MacGruber 2 awaits a greenlight, Will Forte can be seen in a supporting role the upcoming film The Watch. Take a look at The Watch redband trailer for more.

Tom Cruise to Star in Magnificent Seven Remake

0

It started as Seven Samurai, then became The Magnificent Seven. From there, you've got the sequels Return of The Seven, Guns of the Magnificent Seven, and The Magnificent Seven Ride. There was even Three Amigos, which spoofed many elements of the iconic Western (check out some Three Amigos quotes). Now, Tom Cruise will star in a remake.

Next maybe someone will do a Japanese adaptation and we can come full circle.

Tom Cruise Image

So far Cruise is the only person attached to the film, which is still in the early planning stages. Who would you like to see direct the remake and star alongside him?

Cruise is no stranger to remakes and adaptations, as he starred in four Mission: Impossible films through last year's Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, and will also star in the upcoming Rock of Ages movie based on the jukebox musical.

Red Tails Blu-Ray Review: Riveting History

0
0

Red Tails lands on Blu-Ray and DVD and brings with it the story of one of the more important moments in Civil Rights for Americans. The Tuskegee Airmen were the first African American pilots and their struggle to serve their country is chronicled in the film from producer George Lucas.

Terrence Howard in Red Tails
First and foremost, Red Tails sports a stellar cast. Oscar winner Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Oscar nominee Terrence Howard lead as officers who put their careers on the line on multiple occasions to speak up for what’s not only right for equality, but as history has proven, was right for America and the effort to win World War II.

Both actors rise to the occasion and inspire the young cast including Tristan Wilds, Ne-Yo, David Oyelowo and Nate Parker. The film has such power that it even managed to snag Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston in a small and against type role.

The timing of the Blu-Ray and DVD release is terrific with Memorial Day around the corner. In fact, it’s hard to believe that this particular World War II story hasn’t been told on the big screen as director Anthony Hemingway achieves in Red Tails.

As seen in brilliant hi-def on our Blu-Ray review copy, Lucas’ handprints are all over the film’s aerial fight scenes. It is mayhem captured as no other World War II fight sequences have achieved prior. The man is certainly in his element when it comes to special effects. And as producer, he lets the storytellers do their thing while his wide scope of an eye for the visually arresting enhances the story without getting in the way of it.

Red Tails Blu-Ray
The Red Tails Blu-ray Combo Pack special features that rocked our world include the fascinating Double Victory: The Tuskegee Airmen at War. Movie Fanatic would almost suggest watching that doc first -- prior to taking in the actual film. It enhances the entire experience. The featurettes on Lucas, Hemingway and the cast of Red Tails are quite compelling as well.
