Mark Wahlberg has been talking a sequel for The Fighter for a couple weeks now. But it seems that when good first films try to continue, it never works. Do you think making a sequel for The Fighter is a good idea?

10. The Lion King II: Simba's Pride (1998)
The Lion King is often hailed as one of the best Disney movies of all time, so why did they have to ruin it with this awful direct-to-video sequel. The sequel centers around Simba's daughter Kiara who falls in love with Kovu, a male lion raised by Scar's followers. It's like a Romeo and Juliet with Lions. Nothing original, nothing exciting.
9. Oceans 12 & 13 (2004, 2007)
Although they got most of the originals back for the two sequels, including leading men Brad Pitt and George Clooney, that doesn't mean these all-star heist movie sequels will be any good. And they weren't. Although enjoyable, if you compare them to the first one, they don't even come close. I can forgive one sequel to the successful original, but two? Putting salt in the wound!
8. Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde (2003)
This sequel brings back most of the original cast, including Reese Witherspoon who reprises her role as Elle Woods, but this one just doesn't have the same sparkle and gusto from the first flick. The first movie is all about girl power and never letting someone's perceptions of you stop you from doing what you want. It sent a good message to young girls in the end. The sequel is just a silly way of trying to capitalize on the success of the first one. No good substance here.
7. Godfather 3 (1990)
The first two Godfather films were pretty amazing. Some even saying the sequel is better than the original. Fine. Great. Sometimes sequels do well. But let's stop at a good thing. The third Godfather was just not up to par with the other two and filmmakers should have seen the opportunity to cease and desist when they had a chance. Even though it was nominated for SEVEN Academy Awards, we still think they should have stopped after two.
6. Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (2004)
Fifteen years after the original stole our hearts and became a huge success, Hollywood decided to try and capitalize on the success of the original 1989 Dirty Dancing to make this crappy sequel that should not have been associated with the original. It didn't have any of the same characters and was more of a weird reboot than anything similar to the original. What a waste of film!
5. Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows (2000)
The Blair Witch Project was an interesting movie concept and the viral marketing campaign worked wonders to get people interested in this flick with unknown actors to play in the terrifying movie. When you have a good thing, you need to know when to stop! This time, filmmakers tried to take advantage of the hit film and keep going with it. It didn't work. The second one wasn't as scary and seemed completely forced.
4. Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace, Episode 2 - Attack of the Clones, Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith (1999, 2002, 2005)
The first three films (or the last three, you could say) were epic sci-fi adventure films, but then George Lucas decided to go back and let us know how it all began. The three films are a shadow of what he originally produced. So they came years later and had much better special effects, but its hard to top movies so ingrained in history and loved so dearly.
3. Grease 2 (1982)
This sequel was a disaster right from the start. Trying to bring back the fun and summer lovin' that was Grease is almost impossible and even though the movie featured a young Michelle Pfeiffer, nothing could be done to save this film from epic failure. The movie takes place two years after Sandy and Danny graduate from Rydell High School and pretty much has the exact same plot, just reversed. Pfeiffer's character, Stephanie is the badass this time around.
2. Jaws: The Revenge
This is actually the third installment in the Steven Spielberg Jaws trilogy, but it pretty much ignores the plot from the second one Jaws 3D and becomes an awful final installment to such an epic film. Jaws changed the way people looked at sharks and had people terrified to go into the ocean. The Revenge just looked like it was trying to capitalize on the first film's success (which it was) and ended up a huge failure.
1. The Matrix 2 & 3 (2003)
The Matrix was an awesome movie that thrilled and stumped moviegoers, but when they tried to add two more to make a trilogy, it all went downhill. The two films were shot at the same time and released at two different dates in 2003, and it shows! The two films didn't even give any answers - especially Revolution, which did not give any answers to the questions raised in Reloaded. A poor attempt to cash in on the first, extremely successful film. Thankfully the rumors for a 4th and 5th have been squashed.
