The casting war is over for who will play Princess Di in an upcoming biopic. Naomi Watts is the actress lucky enough to wear the tiara in Caught in Flight. According to BBC News, the film is “a compelling portrait of Diana, Princess of Wales during the last two years of her life.”
Watts’ joy in portraying “The People’s Princess,” as she was called, was palpable in a statement released to the world. “Princess Diana was loved across the world, and I look forward to rising to the challenge of playing her onscreen,” Watts said. “It is such an honor to be able to play this iconic role.”
Specifically, the film will focus on a secret affair Diana had with heart surgeon Dr. Hasnat Kahn. According to Caught in Flight’s producers, the princess and the surgeon’s relationship was “a love story between a princess locked in a tower and an ordinary man.”
There were a bevy of actresses rumored to be battling to play Di including Best Supporting Actress nominee for Tree of Life, Jessica Chastain (take our poll: Will she win?).
