Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer are busy in New Mexico filming their Disney film The Lone Ranger. With Hammer as the title character and Depp as his faithful sidekick Tonto, they had us at go. Toss in Depp’s determination to bring dignity to the Native American character that he felt was lost in the original, and we believe they are on to something truly special. The actor has said he hopes to “take some of the ugliness thrown on the Native Americans, not only in The Lone Ranger, but the way Indians were treated throughout the history of cinema, and turn it on its head.”
Taking that sentiment to the next level, we have some photos of a recent meeting between Depp, Hammer and members of the Navajo nation who have given full blessing of the production to film on their land. Look for magic when the film premieres May 31, 2013.
