Tom Cruise Rocks, Adam Sandler exults That’s My Boy and Mark Duplass has issues with Your Sister’s Sister -- all in one weekend as three new films hit theaters.
Rock of Ages: Cruise is Stacee Jaxx, the world’s biggest rock and roll star, who at the beginning of the film is set to perform his farewell concert with his band before embarking on a solo career at the Sunset Strip club where it all started: The Bourbon Room. Director Adam Shankman has assembled a top-notch cast beyond Cruise, including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Diego Boneta, Julianne Hough and Malin Akerman. The soundtrack for the movie musical sizzles and the film is fantastic fun, as we explain further in our Rock of Ages review.
That’s My Boy: Sandler goes R-rated for the first time in over a decade and the results are a raunch-laden blast. His first teaming with recent SNL grad Andy Samberg as a father and son team results in an explosion of hilarity. Besides going dirtier for that R-rating, Sandler is still making the same kind of jokes, which should thrill his fan base. For more, check out our That’s My Boy review.
Your Sister’s Sister: Emily Blunt, Rosemarie DeWitt and Mark Duplass star in a film that is an actor’s dream. Director Lynn Shelton had a script, but encouraged her actors to improvise throughout her film and the result is a performance by the trio of leads that feels about as real as one can get. Duplass’ character has just lost his brother, so his best friend (Blunt) suggests he heads up to her family cabin. When he gets there, he meets her sister (DeWitt) and they hook up, complicating things with Blunt.
