Rosemary's Baby: The 1968 horror classic Rosemary’s Baby still haunts as devilishly as it did when it arrived. The predecessor to possessed children stories that litter the landscape now (Sinister, The House at the End of the Street) started a trend that would be followed by The Omen and its ilk. Mia Farrow stars as a mother who becomes mysteriously pregnant and it gets even weirder when a group of people who claim to be supporting her began to show signs of having ulterior motives. Misery: Sometimes the scariest situations are not supernatural, superhuman, or otherworldly. That is the case in Misery, where an author played by James Caan is held captive by a crazed fan. There are no ghosts, no zombies, no aliens, and no spells, just an entirely believable, entirely terrifying, and entirely human performance by Kathy Bates.
