Tyler Perry tells Movie Fanatic exclusively that he initially resisted taking the title role in Alex Cross. It's easy to see why. The character was originated by Oscar winner Morgan Freeman in the first two James Patterson page-to-screen efforts, Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider.
"That's why I said no. He's Morgan Freeman! You do not tackle anything he does great because he's Morgan Freeman," Perry said and laughed.
Perry tells us in our exclusive video interview about capturing the cat and mouse narrative of Alex Cross that is integral to the plot with the bad guy, portrayed by Matthew Fox, as well as how nice it was for him to wear just one hat: Actor. "It was a vacation," Perry proudly said. Normally, the performer writes his movies, directs, produces and stars in them.
