Two new films arrived on DVD/Blu-Ray December 21, in time for a few Christmas stockings. Milla Jovovich returns to a world she and her director hubby created a decade ago with Resident Evil: Retribution and Joseph Gordon Levitt, to paraphrase Queen, "Picks up his bike and rides" in Premium Rush.

The two action films share one thing in common, they didn't want to get caught up in the huge release schedule that was the normal  "tune-in Tuesday" home video release day, December 18, as chronicled in our most recent DVD/Blu-Ray Preview. But yet, they still wanted to be out in time for the holidays.

Resident Evil Retribution: Jovovich and her husband Paul W.S. Anderson have crafted a fifth adventure for Alice in the Resident Evil world that is inhabited by zombies seeking to turn you into lunch. This time our heroine finds herself crossing the globe in a chapter of the film series that in many ways feels as much more like the video game that inspired it than any other.

Movie Fanatic received the Blu-Ray/DVD Combo Pack for review which for the first time includes the 3D home video version as well. Makes one kind of wish they had a 3D TV! The extras that prove fascinating are Maestro of Evil: Directing Resident Evil Retribution that takes audiences inside the meticulous madness of Anderson's epic series. Being a fan of Jovovich's Alice, the Evolving Alice documentary is one to marvel at as it chronicles the cinematic timeline of a beloved character. It expands on the theatrical Resident Evil clip on Alice.

Premium Rush: Joseph Gordon Levitt had quite a 2012. What with his "could he be the next Batman" turn in The Dark Knight Rises and that awesome mind-blowing flick Looper, the former child star is now officially a full-blown movie star. Explored further in our Premium Rush review, the film has some wildly original action sequences as Gordon Levitt's character is a bike messenger in a life or death race to get out the truth.

The Premium Rush Blu-Ray had only two bonus features and both are equally as compelling: The Starting Line -- Meet the Cast and Behind the Wheels... a featurette on the action, stunts and mind-blowing chases.
