This first Weekend Movie Preview of February has Al Pacino and Christopher Walken as Stand Up Guys, Teresa Palmer falling in love with a zombie in Warm Bodies and Sylvester Stallone putting a Bullet to the Head. So, what should you see this weekend?
Warm Bodies: This romantic fun ride from writer-director Jonathan Levine is one of the most surprising films of this young year. Nicholas Hoult is "R," a zombie seeking more from his life (or death?). While out for a daily feeding on humans, he meets Julie (Teresa Palmer) and he knows his destiny is to save her. What he might not have expected is the two would forge the most unlikely of romances. As we state in our Warm Bodies review, the movie is one enormous treat.
Bullet to the Head: Sylvester Stallone returns to action after two successful The Expendables movies. Unfortunately, his latest is wrong on so many levels, not the least of which it never fully explains its plot. The action sequences are pretty solid and Sly pulls it off, even with his mature age. But, as we state in our Bullet to the Head review, the movie fails to spark any kind of interest in the least.
Stand Up Guys: Al Pacino, Alan Arkin and Christopher Walken are former gangsters who get together when Pacino's character gets out of jail. There's a whole plotline where Pacino has been marked for death that is truly why these three have "gotten back together." The movie cooks, especially when Pacino and Walken share scenes. Their chemistry is electric and we hope that they make more movies together. For more, check out my Stand Up Guys review.
