And theWinneris?

The Tournament of Movie Fanatic Franchises Bracket continues with a supernatural comedy series going head-to-head with an action series. Which franchise do you think is best: Ghostbusters or Bourne? Vote for which you think should move on to round 2! View Poll »

Ghostbusters Franchise:

Do two films a franchise make? In the case of Ghostbusters, we think so. Not only are the supernatural comedies some of the most culturally ingrained films of the last 30 years, they have also spawned a long-running animated TV show, a line of toys and merchandise that was incredibly ubiquitous in the 80's and 90's (I remember using grape-flavored Slimer toothpaste), and two catchphrases ("Who you gonna call? Ghost Busters!" and "I ain't 'fraid of no ghosts") that are still in the zeitgeist today!

The films followed parapsychologists Peter Vankman, Ray Stantz, and Egon Spengler, played by three of the best comedic minds of the 80's and beyond, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis, as they establish a paranormal exterminator service called Ghostbusters.

The film established a string of three successful comedic efforts by a then-young director Ivan Reitman, helping to launch his accomplished Hollywood career. And there maybe be a long-rumored Ghostbusters 3 on the way! Check out some Ghostbusters franchise quotes for more.

The Bourne Franchise:

Jason Bourne first burst into public consciousness on the pages of Robert Ludlum. But it was when Matt Damon inhabited the role in the first big screen film, The Bourne Identity, that the film became a standard for filming smart action thrillers.

The franchise has since spawned three other films and showed the power of its strength by even becoming a blockbuster without Damon. When Jeremy Renner stepped into the franchise with The Bourne Legacy, it was clear that audiences had a movie saga they adored.

The Bourne Identity would be followed by 2004’s The Bourne Supremacy and Damon’s final (is it?) chapter in The Bourne Ultimatum in 2007. Where the franchise goes from here is anyone’s guess. But if Movie Fanatic was to bet, Damon and Renner will join forces in a fifth film that will only further explode the Bourne franchise and set it up to go much further in the future.
