It's been two years since David Fincher's last movie, an American remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, was released. Since then, Fincher has executive produced--and directed two episodes of--the Netflix series House of Cards.

Now, Fincher is looking towards his next project, a remake of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. With the director's first-choice star Brad Pitt passing on the project, Fincher is looking at a number of actors to take the role. High on that list is Channing Tatum (Magic Mike).

Pitt has been a favorite collaborator of Fincher's in the past, starring in Seven, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. With 20,00 Leagues "basically greenlit," however, Pitt apparently couldn't make the film fit within his schedule. In fact, all of Fincher's preferred actors are apparently unavailable.

The director is now weighing whether to postpone production until next year, or proceed with different actors, possibly including Tatum.

The 1954 movie, based on the book by Jules Verne, starred Kirk Douglas, James Mason, and Peter Lorre.
