Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Christopher Plummer are being rewarded for stellar performances in 50/50 and Beginners, respectively, at the 15th annual Hollywood Film Awards.
An actress having a breakthrough year unlike any other, Jessica Chastain (The Help, The Debt, Take Shelter, Tree of Life), will be given the Breakthrough Actress Award and, my goodness, rightfully so. Plummer’s award is the Hollywood Supporting Actor Award for his astounding work in Beginners while Gordon-Levitt gets his richly deserved award for Breakthrough Actor for 50/50. Interestingly enough, we learned at the Toronto Film Festival from 50/50 producer and star Seth Rogen that James McAvoy was originally slated for the role, but had to back out due to a family emergency.
The Hollywood Film Awards are put on by Starz Entertainment and are the first of the award season fetes that allows us to get that Oscar nominee picture clearer into focus.
Movie Fanatic previously announced that The Help was earning the Hollywood Ensemble Award and Rango would get the Hollywood Animation Award.
The actual presentation of the awards will take place October 24 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
