After her 2011 directorial debut with In the Land of Blood and Honey, actress Angelina Jolie is now beginning work on the adaptation of Laura Hillenbrand's non-fiction bestseller, Unbroken.
With such a substantial adaptation on her hands, Jolie has turned to two of Hollywood's biggest screenwriters: Joel and Ethan Coen (Inside Llewyn Davis).
The film will tell the story of Louis Zamperini, a WWII pilot whose plane crashed at sea. After being adrift for 47 days, Zamperini and two crewmates are captured into a Japanese POW camp.
Catching Fire director Francis Lawrence was previously attached to direct, with versions of the script being written Richard LaGravenese (Beautiful Creatures), among others. With Jolie taking over, she likely intends to have the Coen Brothers start from scratch.
The pair are of course well known for such films as Fargo, The Big Lebowski, and No Country for Old Men. HEad to our Big Lebowski quotes page for more.
