For those of us not familiar with British Radio (which I imagine is a fair number of us), Alan Partridge is a brand new character. But creator Steve Coogan has been doing him for years, and now, there's a movie about him.
Partridge is fictional radio/tv presenter who began on the BBC Radio 4 program, On the Hour. Take a look at the hilarious, self-referential trailer for the character's first foray into film, Alan Partridge is in Alpha Papa:
The film seems a bit like Britain's answer to Anchorman (though, to be fair, the Partridge character precedes Ron Burgundy). As of now, no specific plot details have been disclosed, though the trailer makes it seem like a "day in the life" type of film.
Coogan is known by American audiences for such films as Hot Fuzz, The Other Guys, Tropic Thunder, and The Trip.
Alan Partridge is in Alpha Papa opens in the UK August 17. There is currently no American release date set.
