The first full-length trailer for Elysium has arrived and anticipation for the sci-fi thriller has gotten only hotter. Neill Blomkamp looks like he has scored big time in his follow-up to the Best Picture-nominated District 9.
The film stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and Sharlto Copley in the story of a future where the world has been severely split into the haves and the have-nots. The government has built a world high above the Earth for the wealthy and privileged where there is no disease, war or famine. Meanwhile, on Earth... the environment is trashed and it's every man (and woman) for themselves.
As can be seen in the Elysium poster that premiered earlier today, Damon lives on Earth and because of failing health, needs to find his way to the titular world to get better. In order to do so, he must put on that exoskeleton-looking contraption to infiltrate Elysium.
From this early look we can see several things. Blomkamp has crafted another sci-fi thriller that will also have audiences thinking. During a presentation he gave yesterday with journalists, he said he was inspired by the Occupy movement and proof of that is seen in the Earth imagined in Elysium.
