Emma Watson is stepping out of Hermione’s shadow with her first major post-Harry Potter role in The Perks of Being a Wallflower. The film has released two new photos and it’s great to see Watson out of that Hogwarts uniform!
The film is completely from the mind of Stephen Chbosky, who served as director and screenwriter, as well as the author of the book on which it is based. The teenage coming of age story features Watson as a high school student outside of Pittsburgh as she navigates the minefields of growing up and becoming an adult while catching the eye of the titular Wallflower, played by Logan Lerman.
When I caught up with Watson to dish Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in New York this past summer, her excitement for her first big post-Potter role was palpable.
“It was just the most incredible experience. I had the best six weeks,” Watson said. “I'm very excited about that movie. Having an experience like that outside of Harry Potter is what really convinced me that acting really is what I should be doing. I'm excited about the idea of being an actress now in a way that I wasn't so sure of before.”
The Perks of Being a Wallflower, from Summit Entertainment, arrives in theaters for spring 2012.
