Killing Season has landed on DVD and Blu-Ray and it is a first pairing of two legendary stars, Robert De Niro and John Travolta.
As teased in the Killing Season trailer, the film follows a reclusive veteran (De Niro) and a European tourist (Travolta) who forge an unlikely bond deep in the Appalachian mountains. But, all is not what it seems. Travolta’s character has an agenda, and when that comes to light, the sparks fly.
Killing Season paints itself as a mano-a-mano film where the most intense of fighting sequences feature the two superstars battling terrain and each other. The film failed to catch fire in theaters, and should do pretty well in the home video market that has a fan base who truly appreciates action films of varying quality.
The film is directed by Mark Steven Johnson (Ghost Rider, Daredevil) and also stars Milo Ventimiglia (The Divide).
This is one of those films that did not put much effort into the bonus features to enhance the watch-it-at-home experience. In fact, there is only one. The Killing Season Featurette takes viewers behind the scenes of the making of the thriller and features a few somewhat fascinating interviews with De Niro and Travolta.
Unfortunately, they don’t really add much insight into the film and it has us wondering whether this film was merely a paycheck for both. There is no filmmaker commentary track, no gag reel and nothing to further enhance a film that was mediocre from the get-go.
