One of the most fun films of the summer, Captain America: The First Avenger, is coming home on Blu-Ray and DVD today. Also joining Cap is the new Winnie the Pooh feature that is utterly darling, Cameron Crowe celebrates Pearl Jam with Pearl Jam 20 and the Jurassic Park trilogy gets the Blu-Ray treatment.
Captain America: The First Avenger: Chris Evans makes his superhero debut in the wildly successful Captain America: The First Avenger. This origins story knocked our socks off when it hit theaters this past summer. Set in World War II, Evans is Steve Rogers, a scrawny young adult who yearns for nothing more than to defend his country. When Stanley Tucci’s scientist enlists him in a super soldier test program, he becomes the American hero of his dreams. Extras abound on this DVD and Blu-Ray including sneak peeks into the world of the upcoming The Avengers.
Winnie the Pooh: Walt Disney scored a huge coup with their 2011 incarnation of the beloved classic character’s story. The film is narrated by the voice of John Cleese and features Jim Cummings, Craig Ferguson, Bud Luckey, Tom Kenny and musical contributions by our favorite New Girl, Zooey Deschanel. The entire Pooh clan is back with Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Kanga and Roo joining Winnie the Pooh on his latest adventure. The DVD and Blu-Ray release features a bevy of brilliant extras. The stand-out features include the animated shorts The Ballad of Nessie and Mini-Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: The Balloon. As Disney often does, there is also the sing-along viewing option and a behind-the-scenes featurette that is sure to enthrall the kids, but also their parents!
Pearl Jam 20: Pearl Jam celebrates 20 years by having acclaimed director Cameron Crowe film them as they tour the globe and go through thousands of hours of historical footage to create one of the most compelling music documentaries of the last decade. Crowe provides insight that Pearl Jam fans will adore, but also music fans in general. One of the film’s most compelling moments is witnessing Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain and Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder dancing under the stage as Eric Clapton sings Tears in Heaven. Pearl Jam 20 is a must own for any Pearl Jam fan or even an appreciator of the Seattle music scene of the 1990s. Don't miss our full Pearl Jam 20 movie review.
Jurassic Park trilogy: One of Steven Spielberg’s great triumphs was bringing dinosaurs to life as no filmmaker had previously with Jurassic Park.
