Henry Cavill and The Immortals beat back Leonardo DiCaprio and his J. Edgar to take the top spot at the box office this past weekend.
The Immortals scored an impressive debut, taking in $32 million. A full six million behind was the latest Adam Sandler film, Jack and Jill, earning $26 million. Just a few hundred thousand behind in third was the box office champ from the last two weeks, Puss in Boots. The Shrek spin-off earned $25.5 million.
Coming in fourth was the Brett Ratner-directed, Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy-starring Tower Heist. The action comedy made $13.2 million, bringing its domestic total to $43.9 million.
Well behind The Immortals and Jack and Jill was the other new film to open this weekend, J. Edgar. The Clint Eastwood-directed biopic sold $11.5 million in tickets since its opening November 9.
A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas added another $5.9 million to its haul, bringing its total domestic gross to $23.2 million. In eighth place, going over that coveted $100 million mark was Paranormal Activity 3. The horror flick made $3.6 million over the weekend, bringing its total to $100.8 million.
