Gary Oldman is about as an esteemed as an actor as we’ve had the pleasure to sit down with for an exclusive interview. Oldman, amongst a career of brilliance, has played Sirius Black, Beethoven, Dracula, Sid Vicious, Lee Harvey Oswald, Pontius Pilate -- and not to mention the iconic role of Commissioner Gordon in the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight trilogy. Now Oldman is tackling another legendary character as George Smiley from author John le Carre’s Cold War thriller Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. The biggest thrill for Oldman was stepping into the shoes of one of his acting idols who played the role when he was a teen, Alec Guinness. “It’s a funny old world, isn’t it? I remember watching the original series and that was my introduction to John le Carre and the books,” Oldman said in our exclusive video interview. “I was a fan of Alec Guinness. He was the face of Smiley. Who would have known that this 15-year-old kid watching this television series… that I would one day become Smiley.”
