Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol continued its impressive box office run over the New Year’s weekend. The fourth Mission movie added another $31.3 million to its take, landing in first place once again.
Coming close behind Protocol was the second Sherlock Holmes film. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law’s A Game of Shadows sold another $22.1 million worth of tickets, to take second place. The third place film, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, landed in third place with $18.3 million.
War Horse continued its impressive run that began Christmas Day. The Steven Spielberg World War I drama about a boy and his horse banked $16.9 million with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo close behind in fifth with $16.8 million.
