The first clip from Universal Pictures’ 47 Ronin has landed online. In it, the mysterious and mystical character first introduced in the 47 Ronin international trailer seems to have complete control over her subject.

Keanu Reeves stars as an outcast member of a group of samurai warriors, the 47 Ronin, who have lost their leader. Vowing vengeance, they embark on a journey to restore their rightful place in the land.

47 Ronin hits theaters Christmas Day.

Delivery Man: Britt Robertson Dishes "New" Vince Vaughn

Britt Robertson tells us exclusively what it was like to work with what she calls the “new” Vince Vaughn. As teased in the Delivery Man trailer, Vaughn is a man who learns that through his sperm donor days many years ago, he has 533 children. They have gathered for a class action lawsuit to unseal the confidentiality agreement in order to discover who their father is.

Delivery Man Britt Robertson Vince Vaughn

Robertson plays one of the children and she got to share several one-on-one scenes with Vaughn and reported that him stretching his dramatic muscles, while still not leaving the comedy behind, was an utter priceless joy.

Disney has also given those of us who were granted interviews with Robertson the following clip exclusively.

Movie Fanatic: As can be seen even in the Delivery Man movie trailer, the film is heartwarming and hilarious and you get to share both with Vince. What was it like for you to act opposite him, especially knowing he’s so well known for comedy and he has some fantastic dramatic moments?

Britt Robertson: It was an interesting experience to be part of this new Vince mode. He brings a different side of himself to this film. But, at the same time it’s really who he is. He has this sweet, caring guy balled up in there and it’s really fun to see – obviously in these hilarious moments when he goofed around and would be the Vince that we all know, but then there are these sweet moments. There’s a moment in the film where he’s saved me from the hospital and he’s taking me home. We share this hug. It was my first day working with him on the movie. He was so sweet at every take, he would start to well up, and not even meaning to. He was giving his whole heart to it. It was cool to see that side of a guy that you don’t usually picture being a dad. It was cool to be in this movie with him because it’s a side you don’t usually see.

Movie Fanatic: I was struck by you and several of the other kids who play his children. As an actress, your character doesn’t know that, but how you act and execute these scenes will play a huge part in whether he decides to tell you or not. As an actress, do you allow that to factor in or do you just keep it to the words on the page in that scene you’re filming at that moment?

Britt Robertson: As an actor, you have to look at the story as a whole. Reading the script, that is something you take into account. As a character I have to affect him so much so that at the end of the movie, it makes sense to him to reveal his identity to us all. That plays a big part in it. But, as far as being in those moments and playing them as real and as truthful as you can, I think you have to know the end target… but, you also want to play those moments as real as possible. So, at the beginning, we are just looking at him as this random strange guy who has taken a liking to us and wants to help us out.

Movie Fanatic: Did you see the original film Starbuck? Or if you hadn’t. did you choose to see it or not to see it before filming Delivery Man?

Britt Robertson: I wanted to see Starbuck, I hadn’t seen it when I was cast in the movie and wanted to after I was. For me, for my character, it helped if I hadn’t seen the movie because it would have limited my performance. I would have tried to mimic someone else. That would not benefit me at all. I waited until after the film was finished to see Starbuck.

Delivery Man Vince Vaughn Britt Robertson

Movie Fanatic: What is also compelling is how at the end of the day, all those 533 kids, including your character, find each other as siblings and it doesn’t matter if you find your father. Was that a nice aspect of the story for you as well?

Britt Robertson: After seeing the film, it was definitely something that impacted me way more than when I was just reading the script. That’s also because you can see all these kids having a great time together and really being there for one another and loving the experience of having these people as step brothers and sisters. Ken (Scott, director) is really great at building these types of scenes -- you are able to see how we slowly are uniting as one trying to find our father. You realize that it is less about that and more about having one another.

Thor: The Dark World won its second week in a row at the box office, adding $38.5 million to bring its total (so far!) domestically to $147 million in two full weeks. The Best Man Holiday, the sequel to 1999’s The Best Man, started seriously strong in its first weekend of release. The first true holiday movie took second place, bringing in $30.6 million.

Chris Hemsworth Stars as Thor in Thor: The Dark World

That’s some fantastic counter programming by Universal. It is an impressive feat that its sequel to a fourteen-year-old movie only lost out to the Thor sequel by just under $8 million.

Last Vegas has been slowly banking in its dough in its third week. It finished in third with $8.9 million, bringing its total to $47 million. Fourth place belonged to Free Birds with $8.3 million as the animated Thanksgiving-themed family film continues to chug along nicely.

And Bad Grandpa continues to rake in the bucks, closing out the top five with its $7.7 million haul. In a month of release, Johnny Knoxville’s bad behaving senior citizen alter ego has amassed $90.2 million.

Box office top 10:

1. Thor The Dark World, $38.5 million
2. The Best Man Holiday, $30.6 million
3. Last Vegas, $8.9 million
4. Free Birds, $8.3 million
5. Bad Grandpa, $7.7 million
6. Gravity, $6.3 million

Dwayne Johnson is no stranger to sharing photos from his sets on his social media accounts. Since that first Dwayne Johnson Hercules set photo, we immediately got an idea of what to expect from his sand and sandals epic.

The actor jetted from that Brett Ratner set to the set of James Wan where Johnson is back as Hobbs in Fast and Furious 7. The superstar has shared his latest photo on Instagram and this time he let us know that “I didn’t bring the cavalry. I AM the cavalry”

Fast and Furious 7 Star Dwayne Johnson

He also went on to say that he was “On set. 4 a.m. High on dirty thoughts & adrenaline as I wait for my director and partner in crime, James Wan (standing deep in the background) to yell “ACTION.”

We recently ran an exclusive chat with Paul Walker where he talked about the addition of Kurt Russell to Fast and Furious 7, and with star power like that and Johnson's explosive screen presence, Fast and Furious 7 can easily be predicted to be a blockbuster when it opens July 11, 2014.

Need for Speed Trailer: Aaron Paul Gives Crash Course in Practical Stunts

As the second Need for Speed trailer debuts, we visited the Need for Speed edit bay in Culver City, California, and caught up with star Aaron Paul and director Scott Waugh. They took us inside the making of the movie that didn’t use a single CG shot when it came to the action-heavy car stunts that even saw Paul attending a speed racing school to get behind the wheel for real.

“Most of it, I was terrified -- I’m joking,” Paul said to Movie Fanatic and laughed. But for most of the scenes featuring Paul’s car jetting at ridiculous speeds, that was the former Breaking Bad star living on the edge. “There is one scene where we locked down an entire freeway and I’m flying, chasing after the camera car. I had to stay away from a camera that was on a long arm and I looked down at the speedometer and I was driving 120 to 140 miles an hour trying not to laugh because it was so much fun. I tried to just have as much fun as possible.”

As you can see in the trailer, there is one scene where his car drives off a cliff and is “caught” by a helicopter. Apparently, director Waugh wanted Paul behind the wheel on that one! “There is some stuff that obviously I didn’t do but I asked that I could do. They were like, 'You are out of your mind.' [That] scene where I drive the car off a cliff and a helicopter catches me … they wouldn’t let me do that for obvious reasons,” Paul admitted.

Need for Speed Photo

Paul, when he first met with director Waugh for Need for Speed, knew immediately what he was signing up for. This was going to be a movie where practical stunts ruled the day. There would be no CG. There would be no sound stage. Need for Speed would work unlike any other film of its kind because audiences would know that was Paul behind the wheel.

“Scott, when we were first talking, said, ‘I want to just let you know I want to shoot this movie where the actors are actually driving. It’s all done practical. It’s not going to be done after we are done shooting. It’s not going to be done on a computer. I want you to do this,’” Paul said.

“The first order of business was to take a crash course and learn how to really drive. And by the end of the first day I was flying down a ramp and doing a 360 on a skid pad. It was a blast.”

Paul welcomed the challenge, clearly, and could not have identified with his director’s mission more. “Scott’s focus was that he wanted the audience to feel like they are in the car with the characters,” he said. “We use a lot of helmet cam shots so you feel like you are actually behind the wheel and that is how you feel when you are driving cars in the game. So that is one element that we took from the game as well.”

Waugh wanted his audience to feel as if they were experiencing a first person world with Paul’s character of Toby -- kind of like the video game on which the film is based.

Need for Speed Aaron Paul Dominic Cooper

“When it involves him, you really feel him and what he’s feeling. You feel what it’s like to be him,” Waugh said. “That’s why I chose the first person for this movie on that perspective. I wanted to a) feel what it is to drive that fast because that is a thrill that most people don’t get and b) I wanted you to root the way Aaron is rooting.”

Waugh, whose previous credit was the blockbuster Act of Valor, used that experience as a baseline and then proceeded to push the envelope of action.

“When you work with Navy SEALs (in Act of Valor) in that type of platforms the way we did in that type of movie and then taking it to a bigger level with the speeds we were working with on Need for Speed and the coverage we had to have as we traveled across the country, we didn’t cheat it. That kind of mobility, I learned in Act of Valor. We traveled the globe on Act of Valor, I wasn’t afraid of going to locations because of what we did on Act of Valor,” Waugh said.

“I knew I wanted to do a car movie. It’s one of the coolest genres in the 1970s and 1980s -- Bullitt (on our Top 10 Movie Car Chases!), Hooper, French Connection, Grand Prix -- all these great movies that were so much fun. They kind of disappeared. I wanted to do a throwback to that world.”

Need for Speed Stunt Photo

Working in the “real” world as opposed to using computer-generated effects is something he and his producing company (Bandito Brothers) are most proud of.

“Practically is one of the Bandito skill sets, doing it all practically. When we say we’re in a location, we film in that location. The studio wanted us to shoot all of this in Georgia. I was like, ‘You can’t cheat the United States in Georgia. It’s all green!’ Then they wrapped their heads around my approach and they went for it,” Waugh said.

“I was really stoked that they did because I think visually, you can’t replicate that.”

Having a director in Waugh who not only had Act of Valor under his belt, but a lifetime of working as a stuntman allowed Paul to let go of his inhibitions and trust his helmer to guide him through the most astounding of stunts. Although sometimes Paul admitted that his helmer may have forgotten that he was “only” an actor!

Need for Speed Stunt Still

“I think with his background and having been a stuntman that Scott automatically thought I was a stuntman, which I’m not. Steven Spielberg (producer on this film) said to me, ‘Now listen, Scott is going to probably try and get you to do as much of this stuff as possible. If you don’t feel comfortable with it then you have to say no and that is why there is a stuntman.’ And Scott did try to get me to do as much as he possibly could,” Paul said and smiled.

In the end, Paul admitted that it was worth the nerves to give the audience the thrills in Need for Speed. “It was so much fun.”

Batman vs. Superman: Terry O’Quinn as Lex Luthor?

After his comments at a Man of Steel DVD fan event, Zack Snyder all but confirmed that Lex Luthor would be in Batman vs. Superman. Rumors have long suggested that fact and there are even a few casting rumors that seem to have some merit.

Thoughts of Bryan Cranston or Mark Strong have dominated fans of Superman as the greatest potential to be Luthor. Yet, we have a new one that has been floating around the internet today… and we at Movie Fanatic kind of love it!

Former 666 Park Avenue and Lost star Terry O’Quinn is the subject of the latest rumors to play the evil man who has long held a grudge towards Superman!

Terry O'Qinn Photo

As Batman vs. Superman gears up shooting in Michigan in 2014, casting has to be generating some serious speed as the calendar races towards the end of the year. We think that O’Quinn would be an original choice, to say the least. As fans of Lost can attest to, he can be both charming and menacing. His character, frankly, was our favorite during the show's long run.

So tell us…

Is Terry O’Quinn right to be Lex Luthor?

If not… then who should be Lex Luthor?

And while you have Batman vs. Superman on the brain, check out what Christian Bale said about Ben Affleck as Batman!

Fresh off of last week’s 47 Ronin clip, we have a new clip featuring the star of the movie, Keanu Reeves. Although, you will have to look closely as his character is meant to be shadowy in the latest clip from the samurai action thriller.

As the camera heads below, we can tell there’s a fight going on, and it’s between one nasty looking monster and… Keanu! It’s hard to miss those long black locks!

As teased in the 47 Ronin trailer, Reeves is a member of the titular group. They are a samurai warrior clan who is leaderless after theirs was murdered. As they seek revenge, they will discover a power stronger than unity and that is fighting for what’s right.

47 Ronin hits theaters December 25.

Catching Fire: Jennifer Lawrence Talks Playing “Bad Ass Female”

Jennifer Lawrence is back as Katniss, and as shown in the Catching Fire trailer, winning the Hunger Games has done anything but put her on Easy Street. In fact, in the middle of her Victory Tour with co-winner Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), President Snow announces that there will be a Quarter Quell… an all-star Hunger Games that will bring Katniss back into the ring to fight for her life anew.

Catching Fire Katniss

Movie Fanatic caught up with Lawrence to talk about returning to The Hunger Games world and we start by asking what it was about this world that attracted her in the first place. “I love this character and I am proud of her, and I would be proud to be associated with this movie and this character for the rest of my life,” Lawrence said.

It would seem that going in everyone knew The Hunger Games would be a blockbuster. But, as Lawrence knows from her years in show business, there is no such thing as a guarantee. “We already had Harry Potter and we already had Twilight -- we were obviously surprised by the success. How could we not be? But, we did know what to expect to a certain extent,” Lawrence said.

“I was personally very excited when I first started reading these books just that there was such a big series that young adults would be reading and something that was actually very important. I think it's a wonderful message to show how powerful one voice can be.”

It is easy for us in our society to simply go with the flow and as we see in The Hunger Games and its sequel, Catching Fire, going against the grain can be difficult… and deadly.

“It's very easy as a society for us to just kind of follow the feet in front of us and history does kind of repeat itself,” Lawrence said. “I think it's an important message for our younger generation to see how important they are in shaping our society and our future. Also, [it’s nice] to see a bad ass female protagonist!”

Jennifer Lawrence is Catching Fire

Lawrence also sees it as a perfect antidote for a series of generations who seem to suffer from entitlement. “I think that we have this society that we unfortunately experience in our lives where people feel entitled to certain things. I think that we’ve been completely desensitized in our shock factor and the media continues to feed you what you want,” she said.

“This is an example of what happens when you keep allowing that to happen, when you keep feeling entitled to things that you’re just simply not. I think that at the end of the first movie with us and the berries with, ‘No, they don’t, they don’t need a victor. We don’t need to play in this game,’ is a wonderful example for young adults that you don’t have to follow the feet in front of you. Even though you can seem like the only one, even just one voice standing up for something that’s wrong can keep us from going into a totalitarian government.”

There are numerous stunts in the second film in the series that required much of her, many teased in the Catching Fire TV trailer. The most difficult… well, let’s let Lawrence tell us and her answer further proves why people continue to just love her -- she is so real.

“I think the hardest stunt to do... the spinning cornucopia was pretty hard. We had a real cornucopia going about thirty miles per hour. And Jena Malone and I both had our morning sickness bracelets on,” Lawrence said, to which we ask, “Morning sickness, or motion sickness?”

“My publicist is going to be like, that is what I am going to be dealing with for the next 24 hours -- motion sickness!”

She proceeded to laugh hysterically. No one handles the goofiness of the spotlight like Lawrence. But, there is also something else she has done with her fame… the actress has done immense work giving back to society. She sees it as something that is much more organic than something she pursues.

“There are so many wonderful things that can come from this (celebrity) -- saying the right things. And a simple one is that it is so easy to raise money for charity. It takes me ten minutes to sign a hundred posters that can raise thousands of dollars for charity.” Lawrence said.

Catching Fire Jennifer Lawrence

“Honestly, sometimes it surprises me. I remember being on the first movie and meeting an extra that was covered in scars because she had been burned. She said that she didn’t like going to school. Then she read The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and then she was proud of her scars and her friends called her the girl on fire. I just cried. Sometimes there are lives that you can touch. I don’t really have any plans, but sometimes it comes up and bites you in the ass and it’s great. I like doing it that way.”

While filming Catching Fire, Lawrence won a Best Actress Oscar for her work on David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook (she returns to work with him in the upcoming American Hustle). “Winning the Oscar... something like that is a wonderful gift that I was so grateful for, confused by slightly,” Lawrence said. “But I am okay with that. It is a huge honor and I am still pinching myself and I think I have not fully digested it. And I think maybe I shouldn’t.”

Although when she went back to the set of Catching Fire, she noticed something slightly different from her co-stars. “Actually it made me a target for somebody… Woody (Harrelson)! Every time I messed up my line, he’d say, ‘Better give that Oscar back.’ I just wish that everybody in this cast did not know about it. It would have made life a lot easier,” Lawrence said and laughed.

Cobie Smulders is Emma in Delivery Man, opposite Vince Vaughn’s David. As the film begins, Emma and David appear to be heading into a rough patch, made more complicated by the fact that she learns they are expecting. Then, as seen in the Delivery Man trailer, that gets even more complex when David discovers that, due to a mix-up at a fertility clinic years ago that he frequented, he is the father to 533 children!

We caught up with Smulders for an exclusive video interview where we asked her what was the most surprising thing she learned about her co-star Vaughn after spending months with the actor. “He’s very much a gentleman,” Smulders said and smiled. “I benefited a lot from chivalry on set!”

Check out our video below where we play a little word association with Smulders! Don’t want to give away too much, but a few of our words that she gives her one-word, first-thing-that-pops-into-her-mind answers to are “Mother” (for the How I Met Your Mother star), “SHIELD” (for the star of The Avengers) and… much more!

Delivery Man also stars Chris Pratt and Britt Robertson and lands in theaters November 22.

The To Do List DVD Review: Aubrey Plaza Breaks Out

$

0

The To Do List is out now on DVD and Blu-Ray and marks a coming out party for two talented women without whom this movie would not be as fine as it is.

The To Do List DVD

Star Aubrey Plaza breaks out of her Parks and Rec starring mode as a high school valedictorian who gets an A-plus in everything school-wise and an F when it comes to any kind of experience with boys. Writer-director Maggie Carey also makes an announcement to the world with her big screen debut that shows that she can create a film as raunchy, hilarious and heartfelt as the Judd Apatows of the world.

As The To Do List trailer teases, Plaza’s character, Brandy, decides that before she heads off to college, she has to experience everything there is to experience when it comes to boys. Considering she’s starting from zero, she produces a “To Do List” of everything she can think of, and a few she read about on the internet. At the urging of her sister Amber (the awesome Rachel Bilson), she dives into this new world, and to the shock of her friends, she begins to start checking things off her list.

The supporting cast is impeccably put together, including Scott Porter and Bill Hader (Carey’s real life husband), as a slacker lifeguard who is Brandy’s summertime boss. The hilarious ensemble is filled out by Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Andy Samberg, Donald Glover and Connie Britton and Clark Gregg as Brandy and Amber’s parents.

Carey is a talent and we cannot wait to see what she comes up with next, as we stated in our theatrical The To Do List review. The way she wields the camera and captures the cast at their comic best shows such innate talent.

The bonus features are highlighted by two featurettes, Maggie Carey: Directing Her To-Do List and Dirty Mouth. The former illustrates why this is a woman worth noting when it comes to everything she sinks her teeth into going forward. The latter is a terrific video featuring every single “bad” word uttered in the movie strung together in one hilarious vignette.

The To Do List Aubrey Plaza

Even the deleted scenes are terrific and we can see why they were cut for plot and time, but after viewing the movie, we cannot recommend witnessing them enough as they further show the magic of a filmmaker and her cast working at their very best. The Re-do List (the gag reel) is a bit short, but perhaps it’s just so good that we are left wanting more!

Given that this film is Carey’s baby, her commentary is an utter treat. The fact that she does it with her husband Hader has us thinking that these two could make a career simply making movies together for the next several decades!

With the arrival of the latest The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug TV trailer, we get more footage -- but more important, a better look at the titular dragon. Hot on the heels of those The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug character banners we premiered yesterday, Warner Bros. presents its latest look inside the upcoming chapter in Peter Jackson’s second Middle Earth trilogy that focuses on J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit.

Benedict Cumberbatch voices the evil dragon who has taken over the homeland of the dwarves, the reason Bilbo Baggins has joined Gandalf on this quest in the first place.

Even though the three-minute The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug sneak peek showed us much, it is the above TV spot that gives us the best look at the dragon yet! Look for the film when it hits theaters December 13.

Ant-Man: Edgar Wright Promises “A Badass!”

Edgar Wright is busy on pre-production for the next hero to be introduced in the Marvel world, Ant-Man. There have been many rumors as to who will play Ant-Man, even his friend Simon Pegg hinted at it. But, while casting is going on, Wright is getting down to business with his next film after The World’s End and he promises the world will not be disappointed as he appears to be taking this project more serious than any other.

Ant-Man Logo

"I want to make him into a badass. No, I always liked that comic and I always thought it would be an interesting thing to see in live-action,” Wright said to Entertainment Tonight.

“That's why I (showed) that Comic-Con test that we did for Marvel, to show this fight scene like a proof of content -- like this is what the action is going to look like. I think a lot of people who maybe don't know the character sort of see that test and go, ‘Oh, right, I get it. It's like an action film.’ So that's the idea.”

He is eager for audiences’ reaction and already has a feeling, based on what he’s come up with in his head. “I think people will be surprised by what kind of movie it is, and so in that respect it's something that I know is going to stand out because it's got a very different story and is a very different movie," Wright said.

Wright, obviously one who has a finger on the pulse of what is humorous, believes that he is the right man to continue that kind of legacy that already exists in the Marvel universe.

"I think the Marvel movies are funny, you know? I think generally the Iron Man films and The Avengers is funny. They're not ever in the comedy section, but they are funny and entertaining, so I think it'll be something in a similar vein to that."

Look for Ant-Man to premiere on July 31, 2015. And it appears to us that 2015 will be the best summer ever!

Kinnaman, who looks badass in this RoboCop poster, is joined by an all-star cast by Michael Keaton, Gary Oldman and Samuel L. Jackson (the hair!) in the film that follows what happens in a future where crime has taken over and it seems that good folks have nothing hopeful to turn to.

That is until Kinnaman’s cop nearly dies and, within inches of death, is placed inside a machine that will turn him into RoboCop!

Kermit appears to have a doppelganger and that is not a good thing in the theatrical trailer for Muppets Most Wanted. While our favorite Muppets are criss-crossing Europe on a tour that found them reunited after The Muppets, someone sent a Kermit look-alike in to steal some of the continent’s most valuable jewelry and now it’s Kermit who gets locked up.

From the moment we saw the first Muppets Most Wanted trailer we were on board. I mean, it stars Tina Fey, Ricky Gervais and Ty Burrell!

Muppets Most Wanted features some of Europe’s best locales including Madrid, Berlin and London. The film hits theaters March 21, 2014 and brings back all our favorites, including Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo and of course, Animal!
