The Martian Won a Golden Globe for Best Picture - Comedy. Poll: Is It a Comedy?

0
0

The Martian won a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture - Comedy.

In doing so, it kept some very comical movies from their due.

Movies that otherwise wouldn't have a shot at an award. Movies like Spy

Matt Damon in The Martian

Spy was very funny. From start to finish. It was meant to be. It was a genuine comedy for comedy's sake.

When showing The Martian on the Golden Globes, they picked the one scene in which someone laughs out loud to try to prove their case it was a comedy.

Was it a fair assessment to put a dramatic movie about an astronaut fighting for his life after being left behind on Mars up against genuine comedies, even if it had some lighter moments?

You decide.

Take this handy dandy poll. It's simple and to the point. If you really do think The Martian should have run as a comedy, say so.

But either way, drop a comment and let us know your reasoning.

And please, don't just use the answer that you want The Martian to win Best Picture in any way possible, so if it takes competing as a comedy to win, then comedy it is.

That's one slippery slope we never want to go down.

And to that I say...which was more funny, The Martian or The Hateful Eight? I'd reckon the latter to be full of more genuine laughs. So maybe IT should have been in the comedy category and wiped out The Martian all together.

If you watched the DC look at the Justice League on The CW then you got your first look into all kinds of DC goodness, including the Suicide Squad trailer!

Here's your look again, courtesy of Warner Brothers.

And, what, exactly, is the Joker doing in the movie?

Well, Geoff Johns confirmed he most definitely is NOT a part of the Suicide Squad.

If you watch Arrow on The CW, then you probably already have an idea what to expect from a Suicide Squad movie.

But in theaters, expect it to be on steroids.

Starring Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller and Oscar winner Jared Leto as the Joker among a plethora of others, this isn't one you want to miss.

So, what do you think?

Have You Seen the Wonder Woman Footage?

Will it take some sting off of the comic world in general not to have had a female led movie yet knowing the ultimate warrior is coming?

That's right Wonder Woman is on the way.

New Wonder Woman

Who better to helm her own movie than Diana Prince, the Amazon we've dreamt about all our lives?

So far, the movie looks amazing, and you can tell DC is really excited to put it out there.

And Geoff really talks about it with respect, which is exactly what we want to hear.

Yes please.

Chris Rock's Opening at the 88th Academy Awards: The White People's Choice Awards

Oh, Chris Rock.

Of course you would dig right in and go for the throat.

It could have been a very uncomfortable topic, the lack of black nominees and the resulting protest, and it started out strong. It got a little bit strained at the end, but it ended just as the laughter was beginning to die.

Chris Rock Oscars

He asked good questions. Why this Oscars? The whole no-black thing happened at least 71 other times. "Black people did not protest. Why? Because we had real things to protest at the time."

"We were too busy being raped or lynched to care about who won best cinematographer. When you're grandmother's swinging from a tree, it's really hard to care about best documentary short," Rock continued.

He noted everyone went mad, and even Jada Pinkett boycotted the Oscars, but she wasn't even invited.

Sure, he said, she was upset her man, Will Smith, wasn't nominated for Best Actor for Concussion, but "it's also not fair that Will was paid $20 million for Wild Wild West."

Rock said this year's In Memoriam would be black people who were shot by the cops on their way to the movies. "Yes, I said it," he declared.

It's when he dared to ask if Hollywood was racist and the answer was yes, the liberals are what he calls "Sorority Racist," that the crowd started to die down in their enthusiasm for his speech. "We like you Rhonda, but you're not a Kappa."

Rock followed up with some shouts out for actors he likes including the very white Paul Giamatti, and Jamie Foxx, who's so good, Rock noted that they pulled the plug on the real Ray Charles because they didn't need two of them anymore.

The first award, for Original Screenplay, kicked off the night. While Straight Outta Compton was nominated, it did not win.

It's a tall order.

We fully admit that.

Iconic Quote

What iconic movie quote sums up your entire life.

Do we REALLY think this quiz is going to give you insight into the philosophical leanings of your state of being?

Um...no.

But we do hope it helps you think about movies and helps you pass the time.

You know, maybe it's pleasurable and you enjoy the time you spend here today.

There could certainly be worse ways to conjure movie quotes.

So which quote is it? Share the post with your friends.

Don't be shy!

But get your answer right. Because I have a particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career...

How Well Do You Know Cruel Intentions?

If picked up, NBC’s Cruel Intentions will follow the beautiful and cunning Kathryn Merteuil.

Merteuil is the character played by Sarah Michelle Gellar in the ’90s flick (and on the show!).

cruel intentions

That's pretty cool, right?

So it's the perfect time to determine exactly how much you remember about the movie.

Why? Because Gellar has a good track record when it comes to pilots. They're usually picked up.

And if you loved the movie, why wouldn't you want to watch the continuation of Merteuil's story?

You would. Of course.

So get ready to dig deep and determine what it is you know about the movie, its stars and more!

Indiana Jones 5 on the Way with Harrison Ford!

Is it even possible to imagine a world where your heroes live on forever?

Yes, as a matter of fact. You're living in it.

Disney just announced there will be a fifth installment of the Indiana Jones franchise with Harrison Ford on board as our rugged hero and Steven Spielberg directing.

Harry Ford

The film will be released in July 2019, so you have some time to wait, but not too long, considering.

“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios in a statement. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

Archeologist and explorer Indiana Jones first appeared on the scene in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The second film was 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom followed by 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Skip a decade and a half and you have 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

The latest installment is as yet unnamed and we're excited to see who will be cast alongside Ford.

After all, so many actors are called "the next Indiana Jones" these days, that when a film is announced, it's hard not to want to compare and contrast, right?

Captain America Civil War Review: An “Astoundingly Good” Film!

Sometimes, a movie really does fulfill all expectations.

No matter how high those expectations may be.

Captain America: Civil War pic

And, according to Brian Hadsell of TV Overmind, Captain America: Civil War is one of those movies.

Referring to the blockbuster as “astoundingly good,” Hadsell went into further detail as follows:

We get Cap’s famous “Tree Beside the River of Truth” speech (or at least a version of it).  We get Hawk-Eye firing an arrow with a shrunken Ant-Man on it.

We get the tragic certainty of two friends coming to blows over a moral stance that neither of them can back down from.

What else is the appeal of the movie?
