Both Beasts of the Southern Wild stars, Quvenzhane Wallis and Dwight Henry, had never acted a moment in their life before being cast in the astounding film. Yet, the duo anchor as powerful a film as Movie Fanatic has seen all year (look for our review later today). Both are Louisiana natives and were selected amongst hundreds of auditioners to lead the cast of a film that chronicles what life is like for a select few who live in what locals call “The Bathtub.” The locale is fictional, but the feel is real. Life is difficult for the island dwellers south of New Orleans. And when a storm hits (like Katrina), it can leave the entire area washed out. The duo play father and daughter and take us inside what it feels like to go from obscurity to silver screen immortality.
