The weekend movie preview offers something for all audiences whether it romance (Safe Haven), fantasy (Beautiful Creatures), action (A Good Day to Die Hard) and even something for the kids (Escape from Planet Earth).
So what should you see this weekend? Let's look a little closer...
A Good Day to Die Hard: Bruce Willis is back as John McClane, a role he originated 25 years ago. This time out Willis heads to Moscow to save his son (Jai Courtney) who he believes is in great danger. We have loved McClane for years and it is in some ways because he always seems to be a fish out of water. What better way to put that big fish in an enormous pond than to send him to Russia? As we state in our A Good Day to Die Hard review, John Moore has directed some of the best action sequences we've seen in some time and Willis is as charming as ever as the iconic character.
Beautiful Creatures: The wildly successful YA series hits the big screen. Authors Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl have established a universe unlike any other when it comes to the world of witches. Lena is about to turn 16 and that is a benchmark in the Caster (witch) world. She will either be claimed by good or evil. Things get complicated when she meets a handsome teen named Ethan who rocks her world. The cast is stellar including Jeremy Irons, Viola Davis, Emmy Rossum and Emma Thompson. But, as we explore further in our Beautiful Creatures review, the film wouldn't work without the electric chemistry of its star-crossed lovers, Alice Englert and Alden Ehrenreich.
Safe Haven: Nicholas Sparks is at it again. After his The Lucky One debuted last year at Valentine's Day, he releases Safe Haven this year on the day of love. For those looking for a good old-fashioned Hollywood romance, look no further. Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel are terrific together and Sparks even adds a thriller element to his story that is new for the blockbuster author. Escape from Planet Earth: William Shatner does evil quite well in this new animated film that turns the alien invasion film on its head. The film is told from the point of view of the aliens where the people of Earth are the villains, specifically Shatner. The voice cast is beyond amazing with Sofia Vergara, Rob Corddry, Jessica Alba, Sarah Jessica Parker and George Lopez leading the way. Kids will simply adore this film and it is likely to be one of those that will be played on repeat on the DVD player for years to come. Our Escape from Planet Earth review finds it a little tedious at points for adults... but the joy on their children's faces will be worth it.
